[Courtney curses under her breath, attempting to push herself off the ground for what feels like the umpteenth time. Following yet another unsuccessful attempt, she gives up with a whimper of frustration and yells for Oscar] Oscar: Well, well, wel-… Courtney: Shut up. [Oscar swallows a chuckle as he helps Courtney to her feet, dusting her off a little] Oscar: What’re you doing? I told you-… Courtney: I just-.. I-… [Oscar struggles to understand the rest of Courtney’s blubbering crescendo, but he gets the gist] Oscar: I know, come n’ sit down for a minute first though. Courtney: But-… Oscar: I’ll finish it later, c’mon. … Oscar: I’m tryna build a future for us by renovating this place-.. at least I hope I am, right? Courtney: Uh-huh? Oscar: And what’re you doing? Courtney: Rolling around on the floor? Oscar: [laughs] Well, that.. but you’re building our future too, in here. Courtney: Ugh. Oscar: No ughs! It’s just as important, and probably twice as hard. No one’s annoyed that you’re not helping, no one thinks you’re lazy-.. no one even expects you to pitch in right now, okay? Courtney: I want to do something. Oscar: There’ll be plenty of time for you to help later, it’s not gonna be finished any time soon. Courtney: [snort laughs] Too true. [Robin hurtles into the room at speed, making a beeline for Courtney] Oscar: Woah! How can you run so fast in those wellies, mister? Robin: Mama! Why’re you upset?! Courtney: Awh, I’m fine. Robin: Oh-.. I thought you and papa said it’s not nice to lie? Oscar: [chuckles] He’s got you there. Courtney: I’m just sad that I can’t really help papa, that’s all. Robin: Don’t worry, he likes doing things by himself. Courtney: Hah! Now who’s he got? Oscar: Psh.. you know too much, buddy.
