This a Sheaffer Legacy Touchdown fountain pen with a clear demonstrator nib section c. 1995. The first version of the Legacy was introduced in 1995. Legacy demonstrator sections are rare and were not released to dealers. After the closing of the Sheaffer factory in Fort Madison, Iowa, parts from the design shop started to trickle out into the market, including prototype pens. This section is not glued together or sealed like the section on a finished Legacy. It shows ample room for the long and wide feed making it clear why Legacy nibs write as wet and evenly as they do. Note the tabs that secure the nib in place when it is molded into the section. The Legacy is 5 3/8 inches long and designed with a modified Touchdown pneumatic filling system. It is available at auction on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/224728375558 #fountainpen #pencollecting #sheaffer #sheafferpen #legacy #pfm #sheafferlegacy #sheafferpfm #touchdown #penhero https://www.instagram.com/p/CXPOoXNvhrk/?utm_medium=tumblr

An unpublished photo from 2006. This is a Classic Pens CP4 Richmond sterling silver fountain pen engraved in a moiré guilloche, released in 1997. Paired with the CP4 Washington, the set was the fourth limited edition in the CP series, based on the sterling silver Sheaffer Legacy fountain pen. The pens commemorate the capital cities of the American Civil War. The complex engraving was done using a circular engraving machine dating from 1928 by the Murelli company in France. The Sheaffer Legacy was a modern version of the Sheaffer PFM, a landmark pen introduced in 1959 and noted for its new Inlaid nib and equipped with Sheaffer’s Snorkel filling unit. The Legacy uses a pneumatic Touchdown filler with a removable converter so cartridges may also be used. The pen fills by unscrewing the end cap, pulling out the plunger, inserting the nib into ink and quickly pushing in the plunger. It is fitted with a Sheaffer 18 karat gold Inlaid nib and accented with 22 karat gold plated trim. The cap band is laser engraved with CP4 and the individual edition number. Only 500 sets were produced. #pencollecting #fountainpen #classicpens #lambroupens #guilloche #moire #sheaffer #sheafferpen #sheafferpfm #sheafferlegacy #legacy #sterlingsilver #artpen #penhero https://www.instagram.com/penherostore/p/CXHggVhPXjk/?utm_medium=tumblr

Sheaffer introduced this filling system in 1949. To operate, the user unscrews the end cap of the pen to pull out the cylindrical plunger. Air pressure in the down stroke of the plunger compresses the sac inside the cylinder and fills the pen. The ink sac is contained in a gold plated converter that can be removed by unscrewing the nib section so cartridges can also be used. #fountainpen #pencollecting #sheaffer #sheafferpen #legacy #pfm #sheafferlegacy #sheafferpfm #touchdown #penhero https://www.instagram.com/p/CC1s0w7jiJv/?igshid=9cqerjwnzp9d

Sheaffer PFM, Pen For Men, IV c1959-1961.  The Sheaffer PFM IV has a polished stainless steel cap and plastic barrel. The clip, trim and plunger end cap are gold filled. The large Inlaid nib is 14 karat gold.  The pen is the second and final use of the Snorkel filling system. You can see the Snorkel tube extended from the section under the nib. The pen fills by unscrewing the end cap, which extends the Snorkel, pulling out the plunger, dipping only the Snorkel into ink and quickly pushing in the plunger, which pneumatically compresses an ink sac inside the barrel, filling the pen. Screwing the end cap retracts the plunger and the pen is ready to write with no wiping.  An incredibly complex pen that actually works as advertised!
