The argument is basically rooted in a lack of understanding of game design.
Smash and KoF are both fighting games, sure. Let’s take two much more similar games as a comparison: Kaizo and Celeste are both precision platformers.
Last GDQ, we saw Kaizo players adapting in real time to suddenly having Celeste’s walljump and dash added to their gameplay; they’re basic controls to Celeste players, and even some of those runners were Celeste players, but it was still unfamiliar to them in the game they were playing. Likewise, just because I have friends who can kick my ass at Celeste doesn’t mean I can expect them to pull off a shelljump reliably! not that I can either really i’m bad at kaizo
There’s a similarity in the broad-strokes description of the game: move, jump, avoid deathtraps, manage momentum. But just because you can play one doesn’t mean you can expect your skills to transfer immediately to another.
Of course Smash players are going to be thrown off by having an unfamiliar style of input. I doubt many of the “smash fans can’t hadouken” crowd would adapt well to suddenly needing to do midair recovery or edgeguarding either. Not knowing a fundamental skill for a different game doesn’t speak to how someone can play their game.
anyway everyone’s a casual unless they know how to penetrate arbitrarily deep aquifers in dwarf fortress, peace out
im just learning that people didnt know that ⬇️↙️⬅️ is supposed to be read as a swipe like youre really supposed to hit them seperately on a dpad
