Imagine a Great Gatsby Eruri AU. Levi is Nick, Erwin is Gatsby. 

Levi appears in Erwin’s life suddenly, and the moment Erwin catches this mans gaze, Erwin pulls him in. Something about Levi tells Erwin that this man needs to be in his life. They become quick friends. Levi is a refreshing change compared the people he normally finds himself around. Those people wore masks of feigned interest and did nothing but consume. Erwin admires Levi’s honesty no matter how blunt. Levi is quiet too. He listens intently as Erwin tells of his life and of his dream. Levi is glad to have an impassioned voice like Erwin’s to fill his silence. They party together, drink together, and slowly Levi begins to realize how much Erwin means to him. Erwin keeps telling Levi about his dream. Ever since he lost his family, and his world turned to ash, Erwin has been chasing a single dream. It’s like a promise he has to fulfill. Levi tries to get Erwin to let go of his dream. Levi tells him to forget it, but Erwin keeps on. And for reasons beyond his own comprehension, Levi’s feelings for Erwin grow, and he finds himself walking alongside Erwin. Despite their disagreements Levi agrees to help Erwin achieve his dream, because more than anything, Levi wants to be at Erwin’s side.

Their world begins to fall apart around them as Erwin continues to chase his dream, but all the man saw was the path ahead he was now speeding down. Then it all becomes to much. Everything is happening so fast. They have hardly enough time to adjust. Levi can’t deny the pang of grief that fills him as Erwin rushes toward death despite Levi’s protests. Levi wanted to help Erwin achieve his dream, but being by his side didn’t save him. 

Erwin dies. Levi’s knows what those feelings were now.
