YEah. like i think shiv is most like logan maybe but the thing is that kendall tries the hardest/wants to be the most like logan. its like he’s studied logan and can be him theoretically, can be him On Paper, but he isnt him so he has these moments of awareness and we see him genuinely get it too? like everything falling around him just makes him cling to performing loganness more too it is so
I think all of them have parts of Logan in them, but none of them are "most like" him. They are all shaped by a lifetime of trying to chase Logan's approval and love.
Kendall probably comes the closest to having Logan's work ethic. Like you said, he's a student of "Logan", he made sure he had the experience and the education to do the job. But he lacks the instincts. Dealmaking does not come naturally to him. Roman is the one who comes the closest to having Logan's instincts and probably his ideology/worldview. But Roman is an exposed nerve.
Shiv comes the closest to having Logan's ruthlessness. She often lives up to her nickname, and I think that's why you think she's most like Logan. But Shiv and Kendall are really similar in the sense that they're both doing their best "Logan" performance. I'm never really sure how much of Shiv's ruthlessness is genuine and how much of it is her trying to prove she can out-Logan her brothers.
Yes, she can be cold and selfish, but a lot of that is her protecting herself. There is clearly a part of her that clearly craves love because there's no other way to explain her ongoing situation with Tom. She also really does not want to become her mother, and I think she thinks becoming her father is a way to escape that. Shiv has always given me vibes of being one of those woman who resented being a woman. She's never happier than when a man is telling her she reminds him of her father.
She has always resented not even being considered a successor because of her gender. That's kind of at the core of her complicated dynamic with Kendall. They see things the same way for the most part, but she will always resent Kendall because the only reason he was groomed for the role over her is because he was a son and she was a daughter.
Shiv is much better at the performance of Logan than Kendall, but she lacks the experience, and she probably only lacks that experience because she wasn't the "chosen one" the way Kendall was. We know that Kendall being groomed to be Logan's successor is probably the great tragedy of his life, but she will never see it that way.
But back to Kendall, I completely agree that his form of grieving is submerging himself in this cover act of his father. He keeps relinquishing pieces of himself to it. And the worst part is he's still trying to defeat him because he doesn't know what to do with himself if he's not chasing his father's legacy.
He's still trying to outdo his father at his own game even though his father is dead and the game is essentially over. They all seem to be stuck on this idea that the only way to understand their father is to become him and none of them have the capacity to do that so they're all doomed, in that sense.
