They both grew from their own mistakes and misfortunes and became who they are today. They are complete, complex and palpable characters in their own right. Hualian doesn't need to be together to be interesting, both Hua Cheng and Xie Lian are deep and intriguing characters on their own. And they only grow so much better and stronger through each others mutual love, support and respect.

When Hua Cheng is acting unlike himself in Chapter 177, he once again is blinded by his guilt and fear of losing the only person he cares about. He is so terrified of Xie Lian’s possible rejection that he can’t bring himself to even look at him. Once again, Xie Lian’s arms wrap around his waist, and he feels safe and assured. That’s all Xie Lian needs to do to convey his emotions. An embrace. And Hua Cheng immediately understands.

Hua Cheng likes being a little spoon because he grew up mistreated, insecure, scared, full of self loathing. Xie Lian’s presence eases his mind because if Xie Lian loves him, that’s all he needs in his world.

The relationship and trust they have built so far in the story surpasses any relationships they have built with other people. The mutual knowledge that they would never purposely hurt each other, that they will be each other’s safe space. someone they can lean on.

It’s almost as if two souls have found each other, fitting perfectly together, and have built something that cannot be shaken easily, by no one. And that absolute, utter blind love and trust makes me feel things I cannot describe.

Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru is one of those shows you pick up on a whim, that surpasses your expectations and hits you with so many emotions its unreal. I did not ever expect to get this emotional over a show about running.
