Prototypes and CNC milling are becoming more and more readily available to the public. The guys at SketchChair have developed a program to draw, test, and quickly change chair designs. Chair profiles are automatically converted to structural lats that fit together and then can be print-cut, laser cut, or milled.

"SketchChair will be an open-source software tool that allows anyone to easily design and build their own digitally fabricated furniture.

The SketchChair software allows anybody to take part in the process of designing and building their own chairs. The program lets users design chairs using a simple 2d drawing interface, automatically generating the structure of a chair and testing its stability. Users can simulate sitting on a chair with a customisable figure of themselves, in order to test and refine the chair to ensure it will comfortably support them.

The software automatically generates cutting profiles for the chairs, which can then be used to make physical SketchChairs. Using a cnc router, laser cutter or paper cutter, these parts can be cut from any suitable flat sheet material, and then easily assembled by hand."

SketchChair é o projeto dos designers Greg Saul e Tiago Rorke

Trata-se de um software open-source onde qualquer pessoa poderá criar a sua cadeira usando um simples desenho 2D, e a partir dele é gerada uma estrutura. Nessa estrutura podem ser feitos testes de estabilidade e garantir que as medidas são corretas para o uso.

O software também irá gerar perfis de corte para tornar as cadeiras físicas usando um torno CNC, cortador a laser ou cortador de papel.

SketchChair no momento não passa de um protótipo, o projeto só será iniciado se conseguirem arrecadar pelo menos 18mil dólares até o dia 12 de maio, então quem se interessar em ajudar o site é:
