Via the IWW Freelance Journalists Union:

Since April 2023, Ben Camacho has been entangled in a legal battle over the release of photographs of officers with the Los Angeles Police Department. The photographs were obtained through a Public Records Request, after Camacho filed a lawsuit and a court settlement ordered the photos be handed over. Following the release of the photos by Stop LAPD Spying Coalition, the City of Los Angeles filed suit against Camacho and SLSC, alleging that the public release of the personnel photos could compromise “sensitive” operations. The ongoing attempt to claw back these now public records is being made in violation of the defendants’ First Amendment rights. Now, another lawsuit has been filed, apparently to shift blame in the case. The Industrial Workers of the World Freelance Journalists Union stands in solidarity with Camacho, whose commitment to transparency in policing and government represents the core ethics of journalism: to inform the people and hold power to account. We call on Mayor Bass, City Attorney Soto and the City of Los Angeles to abide by the First Amendment by dropping these lawsuits immediately. Until then, we stand by the motto of the IWW: An injury to one is an injury to all!

Goomy crochet pattern

This is my first time writing down a pattern I’ve made so there might be see rough spots, send in an ask if there’s any problems.

You can use any hook that fits the gauge of your yarn but make sure you yarn is all relatively the same weight

Supplies:

Light purple yarn

Dark purple yarn

Bright green yarn

Black yarn scraps

Sewing needle

Stuffing

Stitches used (American terms):

Magic ring (mr)

Single crochet (sc)

Increase/two stitches in one (inc)

Decrease/crochet two stitches together (dec)

Half double crochet (hdc)

Double crochet (dc)

Treble crochet (trc)

Slip stitch (slsc)

Working in back loops only (BLO)

You will have to increase using a treble crochet this will be indicated by trc {inc}

That’s all the pieces completed! Now to sew everything together. Sew the bottom piece onto the body so that it’s making full contact.

Now find a spot along the middle segment that you want to be your face, position your cheek circles so they are evenly on both the bottom and top. Add small embroidery eyes using your black yarn scraps in between your two cheeks. Next position the large antenna so they are inline with your eyes, and closer to the back of the head I recommend just pinning them at first and positioning your small antenna at the same time. Sew them in place once your satisfied with their position

Finally sew the three green circles spaced out along the back following the curve of the bottom piece.

And you’re done, to forget to tuck all loose threads and tighten your knots, thank you for joining me in making my first pattern!

Man drowns at Seal Rocks, NSW summer coastal drownings reaches new record

The New South Wales death toll for coastal drownings has reached a record high this summer, after a man in his 50s died on the state's lower Mid North Coast. Surf Life Saving NSW received reports at about 7.20pm on Sunday that a male had become submerged in a rip at Treachery Beach in Seal Rocks.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter and a Pacific Palms Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) crew were called to the area.

Following an air and sea search, an SLSC jet ski operator located the man at the north end of the beach.

We returned back to Newcastle, where we had lived and spent the best part of a year and had a last few days with our friends before saying goodbye to everyone and heading back to England for Christmas. 

Newy had been our home-away from home. Our good friends from Banff all lived there and we felt so welcomed and full. If Newcastle wasn’t so far away, we couldve definitaly stayed there for the forseeable. We spent our mornings on Newy beach steps, drinking coffee and having a refreshing morning dip. Evenings were spent playing Rugby with the Wanderers gals, drinking and the bowlo or SLSC, Trivia at the pub or cheeky Friday $5 espresso martinis. 

Eating out was cheap and we loved to treat ourselves to a Laksa, Newy Burger Co or Sunday Morning smoked salmon bagel :) Life was good. 

We had a layover in Japan where unfortunately everything was closed due to Covid. We had the plane to ourselves and were looking forward to 4 weeks back home with the family before we immigrated with our PR to Canada.
