I found a #mermaidspurse out on a lovely bright beach walk today. These are egg cases from sharks or rays that protect a developing embryo ... Taken 2022 22nd January, this is a small-spotted catshark (Scyliorhinus canicula), or småfläckig rödhaj, @evolutionsmuseet being displayed. In Sweden, they occur on the west coast. They occur on sandy, gravelly, or muddy substrates at depths of a few metres to 400m, feeding mostly on fish, decapods, and mollusks.
