numb without you (part twenty-three)
a/n: well I definitely didn’t get back on my writing grind over my Christmas break but that’s okay because guess who’s back and better than ever! I am writing this right now for el because an update is well deserved. if you are new to nwoy, welcome! if you are a veteran of this series, thank you for your endless support. I don’t want this author’s note to be too long so without further ado, part 23 (read part 22 here!)
pairing: readerxluke

summary: y/n is nesting and her and calum have a heart to heart conversation
warnings: mild language
Y/N’s POV:
Calum stopping by was a kind of unexpected surprise, but it has been two weeks since that seemingly awkward encounter and you are swiftly nesting away at Luke’s place and Calum’s. You are grateful for the fact that neither of them seems to mind too much, although you know what a hassle two cribs and two nurseries have already been before the baby is even here. You are very fortunate to have RM/N support you with your nesting at Calum’s place. In fact, she stayed out of the nursery completely the last couple times I have been over at their place, but I believe that was more on the premise of her latest binge watch of New Girl over anything else.
Calum has been in and out of the studio a lot lately with Luke, so it has mainly just been you and RM/N at the house. It is surprisingly quiet in the house without Calum there, not that he usually is one to make a lot of noise. It seems like the only sounds throughout the entire house are coming from the television in the living room and the soft shuffle of your feet throughout the nursery. Your movement has become more of a waddle within the past couple of weeks. And you are slowly but surely becoming more impatient with waiting for your little bundle of joy to make her way into the world.
With your efforts, your little girl’s nurseries are as complete as they can be. The only thing missing in both cribs in both houses are your baby sleeping within them. You have washed and folded every article of clothing you already have for her between your many shopping sprees and all the gifts you received from your baby shower. Her crib is all put together, the proudest factor of the whole ensemble being the pink and purple dinosaur sheets you found last week. You are as prepared as you are ever going to be for your firstborn child, you just hope that things won’t become too overwhelming with the fact that she basically has four adults willing to take care of her at any given moment.
Calum’s POV:
You have been in the studio tirelessly for the past several weeks. You understand why there are deadlines in the music industry, but at the same time you truly believe it somewhat stunts your creative abilities. You and Luke have been trying your best to get the melody right on your latest song, but you have been failing miserably. It doesn’t help that the studio is the last place the two of you want to be. You know that if anything happened that RM/N would call you right away and get Y/N to the hospital, but you still feel like you should be the one with her in these remaining days before the baby arrives.
-------------2 hours later---------------
You just parked in your driveway after a long day at the studio. You offered to take Luke home because the two of you carpooled there anyway, but was it really a bad thing that you hoped Y/N would still be at your place nesting by the time you got back? You know RM/N texted you twenty minutes prior that she was going to her three-hour lecture on campus and that she would be gone for most of the night. You know it would be the healthy thing to do if you talk out your issues with Y/N. She is usually a very understanding person and the only other person you usually bring up your issues to is RM/N. You don’t want RM/N to know that Luke and Y/N’s relationship is making you jealous. It would ultimately harm your current relationship with RM/N.
To your relief and simultaneously to your surprise, Y/N is sitting in the rocking chair in the nursery of your home. She is humming to herself quietly while rocking slowly back and forth, one hand on top of her very prominent baby bump. This is the kind of moment when you wished you were good at photography. You do your best to take a mental picture of this precious moment and find yourself daydreaming about all the precious moments to come with your daughter. It didn’t take long before Y/N noticed your presence and pulled you out of your own headspace.
“Calum, you’re home sooner than I thought you would be…you just missed RM/N. She had her night class tonight if I’m not mistaken,” Y/N states as she slowly makes her way up and out of the rocking chair in the corner of the room.
“Yeah, our producer let us out of the studio early since Luke and I can’t focus for the life of us haha,” you respond lightly, hoping you didn’t startle Y/N as much as you think you have.
“Well I can go home if you want to be alone and decompress, I’ve spent most of my day here anyway. I should probably get home soon,” Y/N replies with a gentle smile spread across her face.
“Actually, there was something I was hoping we could discuss before I take you home,” you start, silently hoping that she will agree to this conversation that won’t be easy for either of you.
“Yeah that’s fine, but can we talk on the couch? I have been on my feet way too much today already…” Y/N trails off as she heads to the couch, not waiting for your reply on the matter.
You join her on the couch, keeping an appropriate distance due to your want to respect her privacy and space. She is growing an entire human inside of her and that is no easy job. You don’t want to make her any more uncomfortable than she already is.
“I just wanted to talk about our current situation. Like obviously we are both in separate solid relationships with other people and I don’t want any confusion between us. Obviously, we are going to be parents soon…. I don’t know I guess what I’m trying to say is I’m happy for you and Luke, I’m glad the two of you are finally together. I mean we all saw it coming…just the timing of it all was a little concerning. And I guess you could turn that around on me as well considering how quickly I fell for RM/N… I don’t know I just feel very overwhelmed with it all ad I want to be as transparent with you as possible before the baby comes. I’m not a very open person and I know that is one of my flaws and I am trying for everyone else’s sake to get better at that, but I just wanted to let you know where I am at with all if this… I don’t want to end up resenting you or Luke or anyone in this situation. I just wanted to let you know where I’m at with all of this so you are in the loop, if that makes sense…” you trail off recognizing that you just rambled off the problem to Y/N in possibly the worst way.
She takes a while to comprehend all of what you just said, you know that you dumped a lot of information on her all at once and you do not expect a response from her right away. You hope she understands where you are coming from though with all else considered. You hear her take a deep breath in before she says the words you were anxious to hear come out of her mouth.
“I believe we will find a way to work everything out once she is here. The two of us will always be her parents, it would take a heck of a lot to change that, but you also have to understand that Luke and RM/N are going to be a big part of her life as well. As much as I hate to admit this, we made a mistake. A beautiful mistake and I would not change it for the world, but a mistake, nonetheless. We have to act like the adults we are here and evaluate our situation with where we currently are and where we want to be as parents. I am willing to coparent with you and do everything that is necessary for our daughter and I need to know that you are on board with me on all of this as well. Our days are numbered in the sense that she will be here before either of us know it and I want to make sure we, for the lack of a better phrase, have our shit together before that time comes,” Y/N concludes, which leaves you in awe with how much she has grown throughout the past eight months.
With that response alone your mind is now at ease. If the two of you could have a mature relationship on this subject matter, you are certain that you can conquer anything else that life throws at you. You thank Y/N for talking with you and most importantly for not bullshitting you on this. You offer to take her home, back to Luke, and she agrees by hugging you tight. You will be alright. Everything has its way of working out the exact way it is supposed to.

summary: calum goes to visit y/n and is surprised to find her there with luke
warnings: mentions of sex, hostility, swearing
reminders*: Y/N = Your Name; RM/N = Roommate’s Name (Calum’s roommate)
Calum’s POV:
As you inch closer and closer to the arrival of your first-born daughter you find yourself filled with both excitement and fear as you aren’t sure what fatherhood will look like on you. You and Y/N aren’t in the best situation, but you are trying your hardest to make things run smoothly as you don’t want to add extra stress on anyone’s life. You spend a lot of your time these days looking through baby name books and annoying RM/N. She’s nearing the end of her semester of school and you find that her studies are taking up more of her time than either of you would like to admit.
Today in particular RM/N’s head is three feet deep in her textbooks. After bugging her to the point where she seemed completely annoyed with you, you decide to head over to Y/N’s house in the hopes that she will cook you something or at least want to order take out with you. The two of you haven’t spent much time together lately as she is nesting in her apartment and you and RM/N have been spending most of your time together. You know that there was a time where Y/n and Luke were getting closer with one another, but they’ve been best friends for as long as you can remember and you really doubt that Luke had the balls to anything more than give her a peck on the cheek every now and then.
-20 minutes later-
You pull into the parking lot of Y/N’s apartment complex, your stomach already grumbling in anticipation of one of her infamous grilled cheeses. There is a small thought in the back of your mind that is worried that you might be catching Y/N at a bad time, but your hunger gets the best of you and before you know it you are parking your car and walking the all too familiar path to her apartment.
You knock on the door twice and wait for her to answer, the weight of the spare key she gave you weighing down the keyring you are currently holding. After standing awkwardly outside her door for about five minutes, you take it upon yourself to let yourself in. Normally you would’ve just assumed that she wasn’t home, but you saw her car in the parking lot, so you know she has to be inside. You feel a little bit of guilt using the spare key that she gave you, but she gave it to you for a reason. Whether this reason was similar to the reason you’re about to use it is not something you are willing to think about right now as all you’re focused on doing is seeing Y/N and eating something…and soon.
The next minute and forty-two seconds are something you wish you could forget. Moments after walking into Y/N’s apartment you realize why she wasn’t answering her front door. The bedroom door cracked open was the only indicator that someone was home. Her apartment always had this kind of chaotic nature to it. The furniture was mismatched, and the decorations jumbled, but nothing could describe Y/N more. You didn’t want to walk into her room as she was probably taking a nap, but once you heard her squealing from behind the almost closed door you decided to investigate further.
The moment you opened the door you regretted your actions. You expected to see Y/N sleeping peacefully in her bed or watching another telenovela considering her mild obsession with them, but what you actually saw was something you wish you could erase from your memory entirely. The reality of the situation is that you saw Y/N and Luke in the process of taking off each other’s pants, something you never wanted to see…ever.
The minute Y/N saw you she shrieked causing Luke to jump back and nearly give himself a concussion by knocking his head on the wall. You gave them the space and privacy they needed to compose themselves and firmly planted yourself on the couch with your head in your hands. The most alarming part of it all is that Y/N and Luke seemed so comfortable around one another. And you feel absolutely stupid for not noticing it sooner. Luke has always had a thing for Y/N and Y/N has always had a thing for Luke, you just truly didn’t think they would act on their feelings. Or at least not this soon given the circumstances.
About fourteen minutes later both Y/N and Luke come out of Y/N’s bedroom, both looking as mortified as ever. You can feel your cheeks still burning and Y/N gives you a small smile before sitting next to you on her couch. Luke excuses himself to the kitchen where you see him pouring glasses of water for the three of you. You try to break the awkward silence, but you don’t know just where exactly to begin. Luckily Y/N jumps in and starts the conversation first.
“I know I shouldn’t have given you that spare key,” Y/N laughs much to your surprise. You thought she would be as mortified as you are, and maybe she is but she definitely isn’t showing it.
“Oh, come on, you know I didn’t come here with the intention of walking in on you and curly over here…” you start, knowing that statement was way more awkward out loud than it was in your head.
“No we know Calum I’m just messing with you…from the looks of it you didn’t even know Luke and I are dating which is hilarious because everyone else we’ve told said it was way too easy to tell,” Y/N responds, smiling wider at the mention of her and Luke being together.
You were happy for her, happy for them. You know how long the both of them wanted a relationship with the other, but you can’t help but feeling a little betrayed by the whole situation. Obviously, you don’t have those kinds of feelings for Y/N, but a little part of you wanted her to have those kinds of feelings for you. And you know it is selfish you have a loving girlfriend who is supportive of everything you do an almost too cool with the whole soon to be a parent with another woman thing. But some selfish part of you wanted Y/N to have feelings for you because of the whole situation that you are in with her at the moment.
“I’m just a little surprised, that’s all. I can’t believe Luke finally grew some balls and asked you out,” you reply, unable to hold back the snarky nature of your tone.
Luke scoffs at your comment and the blush in your cheeks only seems to grow, but you try your best to not let it get to you. The three of you change the conversation to the baby and how her arrival is getting nearer with each day that passes. You can see the excitement in both Luke and Y/N’s eyes, and you would be lying to yourself if you didn’t find it kind of cute that they were tackling this together. It is actually kind of a relief. You have RM/N on your side, but you worried how Y/N was going to do on her own with your daughter.
You spend about three hours at Y/N’s place before you decide to call it a night and go home to your girlfriend who is probably still studying away. You are happy for her and Luke, truly, but the uneasy feeling is still in the pit of your stomach. Luke had so many years to make his move on Y/N, but of course he had to wait until she was kind of unavailable to actually do something about it. You know you don’t really have the room to be upset, but you can’t help it. You are jealous. Not that you want to be romantically involved with Y/N, both of you are kind of occupied in that sense, but you still are jealous.
You miss Y/N your friend and you are worried that you may never get her back. You’re worried that this whole situation, your one-night stand with her, your daughter as the result of it, everything has changed because of your one mistake. You know you should probably talk this out with someone, but Y/N is in a very emotional state because of the pregnancy and RM/N is busy with her studies and Luke certainly won’t understand. So instead you just sit in your parked car in your driveway wallowing in your own self-pity for what seems like hours.

numb without you (part nineteen)
a/n: it’s been a minute and absolutely no one is going to comment on that and instead we are just going to appreciate the fact that I am actually writing again. I have been on tour seeing 5sos a few times and school has been so busy I want to cry but it’s fine, everything is fine. shout out to miss ellie for always encouraging me to write, especially with this fic (part 18 here)

summary: you meet up with both calum and his roommate in order to discuss what everything will look like once your daughter is born
warnings: implications of coparenting
Calum’s POV:
Firstly, you are really confused. I mean obviously it wasn’t a coincidence that RM/N was sitting at the table with Y/N, but you are still caught off guard. If you didn’t immediately lock eyes with RM/N you could have just backed out of the café and gone back out to your car, but to your demise you lock eyes with her the moment you saw her. You hoped that she didn’t see you, which was the only thought on your mind when you saw her stand up to greet you from across the room. You slowly made your way over to the table, watching the mother of your unborn child turn around and give you a warm smile.
It was almost comical in the sense that you felt so out of place sitting at a table with two of your favorite people sitting near you. You order your coffee black a few moments after sitting down and notice the giant glazed donut on the plate in front of Y/N, half eaten already which makes you wonder how long she and RM/N were there talking before you arrived. Of course, you can’t really gage how long Y/N has been anywhere based on how long it takes her to eat food, especially with the intense cravings she has had lately with the baby. It’s moments like these when you are so lost in your own thoughts about Y/N and the pregnancy where you can’t help but think about how different things are going to be between the two of you once the baby arrives and the pregnancy is over.
Quickly, you are pulled out of your emotional thought-provoking trance when you hear RM/N say your name a few times and rub her hand on top of your own. You are surprised at the sudden act of PDA which makes you almost pull your hand back. She laughs a little at how jumpy you are, and you know she can tell how nervous you are for the conversation that is about to unfold. You are glad she is here even though you are unsure of her intentions. She always seems to be a calming force whenever you are worried.
“So, we should probably get to the reason we are all sitting at this rather small table huh?” RM/N starts, obviously trying to get you and Y/N to talk things out before the three of you are just awkwardly sitting at the café for hours on end.
Y/N nods and clears her throat before speaking, “I invited RM/N to meet me here about an hour before I told you to meet me here because there were some things we needed to discuss, girl to girl. Lucky for us you showed up right as we were finishing our talk, which ultimately saved us from sitting together awkwardly until you showed up. Basically, since our discussion, RM/N and I are on the same page when it comes to life once the baby is born. I think she is a wonderful person and I am so glad that you have brought her into not only my life but yours and the baby’s as well. I know it isn’t going to be easy and that all of us will get a little overbearing at times but I think that me, you, RM/N and Luke can all effectively take care of our little bundle of joy together even though the two of us will not be living together.”
You focus on your breath for the majority of the time that Y/N talks. You don’t know exactly what you were expecting from this conversation, but it definitely was not what just came out of her mouth. You try to quickly comprehend everything that she just unloaded on you, but for some reason only one thing is sticking out in your head.
“Wait…Luke? What did I miss?” you inquire, although you are fairly certain that you know the answer Y/N is about to give you. A blush creeps up on her cheeks and you can tell she is about to confirm the suspicions you had about the situation.
“Yeah I mean it’s not official or whatever but that is definitely something that is happening,” Y/N states with a smile. And you know exactly how she feels. I mean you are barely dating RM/N, yet you feel like she is someone you could spend the rest of your life with. Obviously, Y/N and the baby are going to be a big part of your life, but it is refreshing to know that you are going to have someone to spend the rest of your life with, even if they don’t know it yet. And you are nothing but happy for Y/N. Luke is one of your best friends and was going to be a part of your child’s life regardless. It is almost refreshing to know that he is going to be there for your daughter even if you’re not around for whatever reason. Not that you are planning to not be around for her, but even you can’t plan that far ahead into your unpredictable life.
Y/N’s POV:
You are pleasantly surprised with how this whole café meeting is going. You knew that RM/N would be down for anything as you could tell she was more nervous than you when you both arrived at the café. You were caught off guard with how susceptible Calum was to your mention of things progressing with you and Luke. I mean it’s not like the two of you were ever truly romantically interested in one another, but you still felt like Calum might be a little possessive over you. Then again, he probably would’ve been if he didn’t already have RM/N in his life. You aren’t mad or upset though. You know your daughter will have a lot of people who love and support her and at the end of the day that is all that matters. She will spend her time evenly with you and Luke and Calum and RM/N as long as things go as planned.
This meeting between the three of you really gave you a moment to breathe and realized that no matter how chaotic your life will get in the next couple months leading up to your daughter’s arrival there will always be someone to care for her and you. The three of you pay for your respective bills and walk out to your cars before you even realize what all is going on around you. The one downside to getting lost in your own thoughts is getting pulled out of them. You thank Calum and RM/N for meeting with you and get into your car to head back home. Even though the two of you don’t live together you know Luke is most likely waiting for you back at your apartment. You find comfort in the fact that he has been there for you a lot lately and are eager to see what the future holds for the two of you.

numb without you (part twenty one)
a/n: I am purely writing this because I miss ellie and I wanted to update y’all on what has been happening in the numb without you universe. If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions regarding the series please let me know. part twenty here.
pairing: readerxluke
playlist: numb without you by the maine, why don’t we go there by one direction, let it all out (10:05) by coin
word count: 1.4k
rating: PG-13
summary: y/n and rm/n get closer
warnings: swearing, awkward friendships
Y/N’s POV:
After the chaos of baby shower season, you finally had some time to yourself. You have spent the past couple of days working on what you can to prepare and organize for your daughter’s arrival, even though you still have a few weeks to go. When you can be on your feet you are working towards making your place baby proofed with the help of Luke and Calum when they aren’t in the studio. Although the entire situation is still a bit hard to maneuver around, the three of you are making things work, which is a good sign for the future.
You were folding the last of your laundry when you got a text message. You finish folding your last shirt before checking your phone to see what the message reads. As soon as you read the message a smile grows across your face. You and RM/N haven’t spent a lot of time together since the baby shower madness, so you are particularly excited to hang out with her. You quickly respond to her invitation of hanging out by offering up your place and a large pizza for the two of you to share.
Within twenty minutes RM/N is at your doorstep with a bottle of juice in hand. For whatever reason the two of you have been on some weird juice kick, but neither of you are complaining. The two of you turn on some music once RM/N gets settled, pouring both of you a glass of juice while you scroll through your music library looking for the right song for the two of you to listen to. Suddenly one song comes on your screen catching your eye. You don’t exactly know how RM/N feels about One Direction, but you figured that she must at least know them due to Calum opening for them so many years ago.
As soon as the starting sounds of Why Don’t We Go There by One Direction starts to fill the quiet space of your apartment RM/N is singing along. A smile spreads across your face once you realize this because if she likes One Direction then this is the start to a beautiful friendship. Soon enough the two of you are dancing around the living room of your apartment, singing along to a multitude of One Direction songs at the top of your lungs. You can’t move as easily as you would like to know that you are several months pregnant, but you can’t help but dance along to the familiar beats of the songs that molded part of your childhood.
As the night progresses the two of you have made two dozen apple turnovers, worked on decorating your daughter’s nursery, and built a fort in your living room out of pillows and blankets. RM/N thumbs through your stack of movies and decides on Tangled, since it is the ninth anniversary of the movie. Once RM/N tells you that, you are certain that the universe brought her into your life for a reason. Not only is Tangled your favorite Disney princess movie, but you have had a strong love for the movie since it was released.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
RM/N’s POV:
Once the movie ends, you and Y/N find yourselves sitting in a comfortable silence. You are pleasantly surprised with how seemingly normal your day with Y/N has been. The two of you haven’t spent a lot of time together besides planning the baby shower and you thought today would be a good day to start. You did not know what to exactly expect from this day together but as the day went on you two actually found out that you share a lot of common interests. As you find yourself lost in your own thoughts, you hear Y/N clear her throat like she has something to say.
“I don’t mean to sound accusatory at all, and as I say this it will probably come off that way, but why do you feel the need to make such a good impression?” Y/N inquires, which immediately pulls you out of your current train of thought.
“Oh…well I don’t know…I didn’t really realize that was what I was doing…” you trail off, trying to gather your thoughts with the question that was just thrown at you. You know you shouldn’t really take it to heart. Technically, you were trying to make a good impression with Y/N. She was the only one of Calum’s friends that you felt like you could spend time with. You have tried to have conversations with the guys in the band, but they don’t really seem to give you the time of day. And of course, there was the factor of Y/N having Calum’s kid. If you don’t get along with her now, you’re afraid you never will. She is going to be a part of Calum’s life forever and you hope you stick around that long too, meaning getting along with Y/N and making a good impression is all you really have going for yourself right now.
“Sorry,” you continue, “I guess I just feel like I have to make a good impression because Calum really cares about you, obviously, and I just want you to like me or at least tolerate me because I’m hoping to stick around for a while and-“ Y/N cuts you off before you could continue your rambling.
“Woah, woah, woah” Y/N starts, laughing a little, “I wasn’t trying to accuse you of anything, I was just curious. I don’t see a lot of people being genuine about good impressions when it comes to the band and this crowd, so it is much appreciated that you are being sincere with it all. Wanting to make a good impression is usually the first sign of a good person, so if you are worried about Calum and his friends liking you, don’t be.”
Her words set your mind at ease. Although you weren’t consciously trying to make a good impression, you can see where Y/N is coming from. You wanted to have everyone like you, or at least tolerate you, so being kind to everyone you met lately seemed like the way to go.
“And while we are somewhat on the topic, why Calum? Like of all people…” Y/N starts, before her own thoughts distracted her.
“I could ask you the same thing…I mean you are having his kid,” you retaliated playfully.
Y/N laughs at this, knowing that you know the story of how that all went down. You are glad that the two of you could laugh about this because the situation is kind of awkward in nature.
Your conversation continues with this back and forth banter until Y/N hits you with one more pressing question.
“So, I have a serious question…do you think dinosaur is a good name for the kid? Because as crazy as it sounds, I am seriously considering it…” Y/N states, causing you to laugh a bit.
“You cannot be serious,” you reply, trying to hold back a fit of giggles.
“I’m being serious,” Y/N starts, “I mean we call her dinosaur already…and if we don’t name her that, then maybe something based off dinosaur? Like Dina?”
“Y/N, you cannot be serious. You want to name your first born…dinosaur? Like after a fucking prehistoric animal. Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?” You ask, being completely serious.
“No…No I know it sounds ridiculous, but I am really at a loss for names these days” she responds.
“Now if it was you and Luke’s kid, dinosaur would make sense, but it’s not. I mean you don’t have to decide on anything right away…you still have some time before the baby comes,” you remind her.
“You’re right…I don’t know what I was thinking. I guess I’m already getting mommy brain or whatever it is called…” Y/N says.
“Don’t worry too much about it, I’m sure you and Calum will come to a consensus about the name soon. My parents didn’t decide on my name until after I was born, it will come to you with time.” You reassure her as the conversation comes to a close.

summary: y/n develops a plan, luke and y/n talk some things out, calum goes to the café
warnings: swearing, implications of kissing
Y/N’s POV:
It took you a minute, but you finally pried RM/N’s number out of Luke. You needed her number because you wanted to get on the same page with her before Calum got to the place the three of you were having lunch. You mentioned inviting RM/N to Calum, but you knew him too well to think he would have actually invited her for a decent portion of the meal. Luke was hesitant to give you her number, and honestly you didn’t expect anything less. He has always been a little protective over you and looked out for you and your best intentions for years. Once you explained your intentions for this early meeting with her, Luke seemed to find it necessary to give you her number.
You thank him, quickly typing RM/N’s digits into your contact book. You find a quiet place in your now seemingly small apartment away from Luke so you can call her. You really don’t have any hard feelings, you never liked Calum like that and he is obviously crazy about her. You just wanted to make sure that the two of you were on the same page with everything before Calum got to lunch. Besides, you wanted her to know that she was invited and welcomed to this meal. You could probably put money on Calum telling her to just come for dessert or to sit this one out so you and him could talk things out without RM/N in the picture.
The three of you were going to have lunch at a quaint little café that was equidistant from your place and Calum’s. You knew that having RM/N there before Calum was in everyone’s best interest, but you had to admit that it was stressing you out a little bit. The two of you really didn’t get off on the right foot the last (and only) time you spoke, but you were determined to make things right and let RM/N know that if she’s in this for the long haul with Calum, then you were in it for the long haul with her too. You liked the idea of someone else to help out when your little dinosaur finally came into the world, especially when you were in a bind and needed Calum to watch her.
Before you could overthink anymore, you clicked on RM/N’s contact and hit the call button. The phone only rang twice before she answered, catching you a little off guard.
“Hello?” she answered, a little confused at the unknown number.
“Um hi, RM/N. It’s Y/N,” you start, hoping that you are not calling her at a bad time.
“Oh hi,” she exclaims.
You quickly explain to her how you got her number and the plan you have been putting together, and you are relieved to hear that she is totally on board with all of it. You have decided that you would not have to meet RM/N at the restaurant for another few hours, which gives you some time to sit down and relax before you have to get ready.
You walk back into the living room, smiling when you see Luke laying comfortably on your all too small couch. You sit down next to him, easily fitting into his side as you lay your head on his chest and he lays his head on top of yours. These past couple of months haven’t been easy, but you’re glad that things have started to work out between you and Luke despite all of the obstacles. He lazily drapes his arm over top of your protruding baby bump, so absentminded that you’re positive he didn’t even realize what he has done.
“Do you see us having a future together?” you ask to break the silence.
“What do you mean?” Luke inquires, obviously a little taken aback by your out of the blue question.
“Like, do you see us being together after a few years? I know we have been friends forever, but a lot has changed over the past couple months and I have more than just myself to worry about now..” you conclude, hoping he got the gist of what you were trying to say to him.
“Babe, you’ve got nothing to worry about on my end. I’m in it for the long haul, have been since I first laid my eyes on you. You’re stuck with me and all my mushy gushy lovey dovey bullshit for as long as you’ll have me,” Luke replied, not blinking an eye while practically ensuring that he will be by your side through thick and thin.
“God Luke don’t say babe like that,” you mutter, unaware of the exact power he actually has on you now that you are allowing your feelings for him to be out in the open. Being truthful about your feelings for Luke is a very new and foreign concept to both of you, but you would take this over how you two used to be any day.
“Or what?” he responds cockily, making you want to kiss that dumb smirk right off his stupid face.
“I don’t have the time for the answer you want,” you reply coolly, stating a fact the two of you know all too well.
You want to ask him about his view on kids, as you are several months pregnant with Calum’s child, but you already know his answer. You have been with him in the grocery store when the two of you pass a cart with a baby in it. You have seen him play peekaboo with kids in lines, make funny faces at them when their parents aren’t looking.
You find yourself quickly getting lost in your own thoughts, vaguely aware of the fact that Luke is currently looking at you with admirable eyes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calum’s POV:
You get in your car thirty minutes before you are supposed to meet Y/N at the café. You know it’s irrational, but you can’t stop thinking about how awkward this could potentially be between you and Y/N. You know she is a fairly forgiving person, but you have a bad track record with messing things up before they even start. You can already count down the days to when your daughter will be brought into this world, and the thought honestly terrifies you. But you know that you have to work out all the details with Y/N, which is exactly why the two of you are meeting today to figure things out.
You start the car, knowing that you need to leave soon if you want to arrive a little before you said you would be there. You haven’t talked to RM/N all day. Something that seems a bit peculiar, yet you don’t question it because you both have a lot going on right now. You plug your phone into the power cord that doubles as an auxiliary cord in your car, allowing the soft sounds of Arctic Monkey’s AM album to fill the space around you. You didn’t hit shuffle, so Do I Wanna Know? Is the first song that plays. You particularly enjoy listening to music when driving, especially when you need to get your mind off of things for a moment.
Before you know it, you find yourself pulling into a parking spot outside the café. You take a deep breath, feeling like a broken record since you are hoping for the best but also expecting the worst. You remember to lock your car as you reach your hand out to grab the door handle. Your mind seems to be anywhere but the present moment, but you try your hardest to focus on everything that is about to unfold right before your own two eyes. You walk into the café and quickly scan the room for Y/N. You look from one corner of the room to the next, Y/N seemingly nowhere in sight. You are about to give up, but then something rather odd happens.
To your surprise you lock eyes with RM/N before you see anyone else.

numb without you (part twenty)
a/n: I am purely writing this to surprise miss el since I miss her, and I know this will make her happy. the last part did not get as many notes as I wanted but I have come to terms with the fact that since I haven’t been consistently updating, I won’t get a lot of notes for a while. thank you to the consistent love and support towards my writing. this is definitely going to be kind of a filler update so please bear with me (read part 19 here).

summary: y/n is getting things ready leading up to her and calum’s baby shower with the help of rm/n, y/n and luke start getting more serious
warnings: mentions of slight hostility, swearing
Y/N’s POV:
Everything within the past couple of weeks has been really hectic. You were really thankful for all the help that RM/N was giving you throughout the process of planning your baby shower, but you still couldn’t help but think that someone else should be helping you with all of this. You always thought that you would have your best friend help you with all of this, but at the moment your best friend is Luke and you know for a fact that he would be absolutely awful at planning a baby shower.
You are currently sitting in Calum’s living room adding things to your baby shower registry while RM/N finalizes the details by triple checking that the catering and venue are in order for tomorrow. Both Calum and Luke are in the studio working on a couple songs that the band is supposed to release this year. You are getting used to spending more time with RM/N, which is good because the two of you are ultimately becoming closer. You know Calum would love to hear that. The more time you spend with RM/N the more of Calum you see in her. They spend all of their free time with each other, so you can’t necessarily be surprised that they are rubbing off on each other.
You suddenly are pulled from your current train of thought by the soft ringing of your phone. You quickly look at the caller ID and smile a little as you excuse yourself from the living room.
“Hello?” you say as you answer the phone quickly, a little quicker than you anticipated which left you worried that you now are coming off a little desperate.
“Hi Y/N” you hear Luke’s soft voice reply on the other end. Just simply hearing his voice immediately makes most of your worries disappear.
“What’s up?” you inquire, curious to why he is calling you when he is supposed to be working hard in the studio considering that there is a deadline that he and the band must meet that is quickly approaching.
“Just missed you…” he starts, leaving you to wonder if he is actually going to complete his thought process for once or if he is just going to leave his statement at that.
“I hardly think that constitutes a phone call…you are busy with work! A simple text could have conveyed that message for you, and you wouldn’t have had to step out of the studio to call me,” you respond with a smile very evident in your tone.
“I guess you’re right…I just thought you might need a break from all the baby shower stuff. Calum was telling me how invested RM/N has gotten with the party and from the sound of it I was getting exhausted. And then I thought about how you could be dealing with all of that with a baby added to the equation and the next thing I knew I was dialing your number” Luke states, the concern he has for you and your wellbeing explicitly stated through his word choice.
“I was actually doing okay. RM/N is just triple checking some things and making a few phone calls but all I was doing before you called was laying down on the couch and adding some final things to me and Calum’s registry,” you tell Luke, still dancing around the fact that tomorrow is going to be all about you and Calum and not you and Luke.
“That’s good,” Luke says, “Have you felt her kicking much today? I swear last night she wouldn’t stop kicking me in the back. It’s like she’s out to get me Y/N, I fucking swear on it.”
You laugh at his statement, mainly because it was true. You have mostly gotten used to your little bundle of joy kicking every now and then, but as you get closer to the shower you swear, she is getting excited too. And her excitement leads to her kicking you every chance she gets.
“Only a few kicks here and there. When I was making RM/N and I lunch earlier she was kicking really hard to one of your songs. So hard in fact that I had to sit down for a little bit and RM/N actually helped me finish making us sandwiches,” you explain to Luke, hoping that this information that you just shared with him won’t stress him out.
“Well I’m glad RM/N is there to help you when I can’t be there,” Luke says softly.
“Me too,” you reply and for once you truly are thankful for RM/N being around in order to help you when the boys are busy with their hectic musical careers.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calum’s POV:
You get into your car and turn on the ignition as you simultaneously buckle your seatbelt. Today wasn’t necessarily a bad day in the studio, but it was obvious to everyone in the room that your head wasn’t in it today. How could it? You had been working frantically to help RM/N plan this baby shower so everything would be perfect for Y/N and your unborn daughter. You don’t want Y/N to lift a finger, and with that comes the expectation that you would help RM/N with planning the perfect baby shower. Dinosaur themed everything was something that both you and RM/N decided needed to happen, which definitely led you to ordering dinosaur tablecloths on your break from recording today.
It seemed like the rest of the band was getting frustrated with every little thing you ended up doing wrong today, which ultimately led you to be sent home early from the studio. You didn’t mind being sent home early, as you had a lot on your plate and you need to get your shit together, but it did kind of upset you that the guys weren’t as understanding of your current situation as you thought they’d be. Luke seems to get it, mainly because he has also been experiencing this pregnancy first hand, but Michael and Ashton seem to get frustrated easily with you and the plans that you seem to always have with either Y/N about the baby or just hanging out with RM/N.
You try to not let this get under your skin because you know at the end of the day that the four of you are like brothers and will support each other until the end. Still it sucks to have those looming thoughts in the back of your mind like you said or did something wrong that made a lot of people upset with you. This drive home was supposed to be an excuse to clear your head of all of the bad thoughts before you pulled into your driveway and immersed yourself in the world that is RM/N and Y/N putting the finishing touches on the baby shower you are having tomorrow afternoon. Sadly, the drive has done quite the opposite allowing you to only obsess over these negative thoughts and suspicions more than is really necessary.
You park your car outside of your house and turn it off before heading inside. If anyone can make you feel better, it is your three favorite girls sitting in your living room while watching baking shows and adding things to the registry.

summary: luke apologizes for shutting you out / spending time with bestfriend!luke
playlist: numb without you by the maine, sink or swim by lewis watson, fallout by marianas trench, sorry by halsey
warnings: swearing, mentions of a hookup and nausea
----------------------------------------------------
Luke’s POV:
This is it. You’re in the car with her and she’s driving so you have about thirty minutes to state your case and give her a million reasons to not push you out of the car while driving away. You know you fucked up. Majorly. Big time. One of your worst fuck ups in the history of fuck ups. But you have to make this right, and now is your chance.
You clear your throat and wipe your hands on the tops of your jeans.
“Look I know what I did was a shitty thing to do, especially in a situation like this, but my anger got the best of me. I mean you really fucked my other best friend behind my back and didn’t mention it nor planned on mentioning it until you realized you were pregnant with his child. That shit hurts, Y/N. So yeah it was shitty for me to shut you out like I did but it was also shitty of you for keeping me in the dark for this long about something pretty serious between you and Calum. But you two are going to have a baby now I guess which is cool. Super stoked for the both of you. I just…god I don’t know. I just don’t want this baby to force the two of you into something neither of you want. I will be by your side throughout this entire pregnancy, if you’ll have me. I still care about you, Y/N. Always have, always will. And I’m sorry again. I’m so so so so so sorry.”
-------------------------------------------------------
Y/N’s POV:
Well, there it was. There was Luke’s big apology. You are happy he made the effort, considering you know how hard it is for him to admit his flaws at times. You kind of wish he wasn’t giving this long speech while you were driving the half hour home, knowing if you weren’t so focused on driving that you would be able to better comprehend his words. By the time he’s finished half of your drive is over. You know you should forgive him. You did put him in a tough situation, and he is your best friend after all. You clear your throat ready to give him a response.
“I accept your apology, but it was a really shitty thing to do. Especially to someone who is now prone to be highly emotional. I know I put you in a rough spot, but you have to know this wasn’t purposeful in the slightest. I’m going to be a mom now and there is nothing I can do but be all in for it. And you have to support me with that,” you reply, taking a deep breath and turning on some music so you can delay the conversation you two need to inevitably finish.
Luke plays around with the music on your phone until he lands on a song that he deems perfect for the last few minutes of your drive. You recognize the song almost immediately, causing you to smile until you really listened to the words blaring through your car speakers.
“An empty room, I'm empty too And everything reminds me of you So many things I shouldn't have missed The more that I push And the more you resist It's easy to say it's for the best When you want more While you leave me with less I know you're fine, but what do I do? I know you're fine, but what do I do? I'm awake, and trying While you're sleeping like a babe Beside him”
As you pull into the driveway, you wipe the tear threatening to fall from your left eye hoping Luke didn’t see you. This song always got you feeling extra emotional, but especially now that you sort of relate to it. And Luke knew that. He had to, he’s your best friend.
You park the car and go into your apartment, expecting Luke to follow which he does. You throw your car keys on the hook by the door and settle in on your couch. Luke sits on the other end, much farther than you would like him to be but you don’t want to give him that satisfaction that he is right. Even though he is.
“Do you want me to get you some salted caramel ice cream? I know you don’t have any in the freezer, but I could go to the store and pick up a couple of tubs? And then we can binge watch some Parks and Rec until you want me to go home?” Luke says, nervous that you will turn down his offer.
You smile and nod and he mumbles that he will be back in twenty minutes and asks you to put his favorite blankets that you own into the dryer so they are nice and warm for when he gets back.
Him being gone gives you some time to think to yourself about all of the events that happened in the past 24 hours. It also allows you to think about the feelings you’ve had for Luke that you have shoved way down in the pit of your stomach and haven’t allowed anything else to bring back up. And that leads to you thinking about how you were planning to make a move with Luke the night you hooked up with Calum. And obviously you didn’t but maybe that is because you assumed he was going to try something that night. And once he didn’t you were thoroughly disappointed and went outside to get some air. You know the rest. That’s how you ended up here.
You like him, anyone can see it. Except him. Which is the exact reason why this situation is so frustrating. You could also mention the fact that you are currently carrying his band member’s child. But you really don’t want to get in to that tonight. Bottom line is you like him… a lot. But what can you do about it now that you are in the current situation you are in?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luke comes back with four tubs of your favorite ice cream (salted caramel) and you pull the now warm blankets out of the dryer. He puts three of the tubs of ice cream back in your freezer and finds two spoons in your silverware drawer. You two meet back at the couch and you cover both of your legs with the blankets. You can feel his jeans against your leggings, but you try not to make a big deal out of it. You grab the remote to your tv and put on the latest episode you were watching. Not like you and Luke haven’t watched this show four times over already. The two of you sit together comfortably, watching the characters on the show tackle yet another ridiculous project as you shovel spoonfuls of ice cream into your mouth.
Luke smiles at you every time one of the characters does something dumb and you return his smile with a laugh at the dumb jokes made. Sometimes you wish your life was as simple as the characters in this show, mainly because of the one thing that happens with this kind of show. Happily, ever afters. That’s all you really wanted with Luke but it’s not like you can tell him that. Not now, maybe not ever.
You pass the tub of ice cream back and forth until the two of you cannot eat any more. Luke offers to get up and take the half melted half eaten tub back to the freezer. You thank him for allowing you to already stay off your feet, but you also remind him that you are not even showing yet and barely feel any different. He still insists on helping you out anyway he can, assuring you that this is how he is going to make it up to you for all the shitty things he has done the past couple days.
By the time the two of you are done eating and the episode you were watching was finished, Luke decided it would probably be best if he goes home. You don’t fight it as you have had an already emotional and busy day and you are quite tired. You walk him to the door and thank him for the wonderful afternoon that the two of you have shared. He reminds you that the pleasure is all his and calls an uber to get him home.
The minute he gets in the car, you feel an overwhelming wave of nausea. It looks like your worst nightmare has already started.
Morning sickness.

summary: you go to your first doctor’s appointment to get more information on what is happening, and some surprise visitors join you
playlist: numb without you by the maine, high hopes by panic! at the disco
rating: PG-13
warnings: swearing, doctor’s visit, soft soft soft
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N’s POV:
Just another Monday morning, that’s all today is. Yeah you aren’t going to work, but that should be something you celebrate not sulk over. You just know that today will definitely confirm what you have suspected. You will for sure be told by your doctor that you are pregnant today in the matter of a few hours, actually. Calum said he would go with you. He’s been calling every day to check up on you. You don’t necessarily mind him checking up on you, it is just kind of weird considering you two have never really been that close. This is something Luke should be doing. You hate to compare them, but that is all you can think about right now.
Luke hasn’t talked to you since Thursday night when he found out exactly what is going on between you and Calum. You hate that you left things the way you did but you can’t really change that considering he hasn’t answered your calls or texts or multiple FaceTimes. You suppose you could go and see him at his place, but you don’t know his schedule and you hate showing up to places unannounced and uninvited. You do miss him though. More than anything. I mean the two of you are best friends. You can’t even remember the last time you and Luke had gone this long without talking to one another. And you are pretty sure that is what hurts the most. The fact that in any other circumstance he would be the one by your side through all of this. The doctor appointments, the morning sickness, the midday naps, all of it.
You shake the thought from your mind and look in your closet to find something to wear. Calum said he would meet you at the OBGYN’s office ten minutes before the scheduled appointment. That gives you twenty minutes before you have to leave your apartment. You don’t even bother to put on makeup, and you dress yourself in a pair of leggings and a flowy shirt. You aren’t showing yet, but you want to be careful just in case. Not like anyone at this kind of a doctor’s office would care if you were showing. You mainly dressed this way to give yourself some peace of mind. You brush your teeth quickly and put on a pair of tennis shoes before grabbing your car keys and heading over to meet Calum at the appointment.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calum’s POV:
I can’t believe him. Actually, no I can. Of course, Luke would do something like this. I know that he is her best friend or whatever, but he doesn’t get to swoop in and save the day at this doctor’s appointment. Especially not after he has spent the past four days ignoring Y/N. She doesn’t deserve that. She doesn’t deserve any of this. I was so stupid. A stupid mistake that is now going to effectively ruin both of our lives. It doesn’t matter that I’ve always had a soft spot for kids. Or that I have always had a small crush on Y/N. We aren’t going to ponder that last bit.
Anyway, here I am about to get in the car and meet Y/N at the doctor when Hemmings shows up at my doorstep waiting for me to leave my house. He gave me a whole speech on how he needs to be there for her just as much as I need to be there for the baby. Which I personally think is a load of bullshit, but he literally stood in front of my car and didn’t let me go anywhere until I let him come with me. He hasn’t returned her calls or messages, but sure he’s allowed to show up unannounced and uninvited to the first doctor’s appointment. Sure, she’s going to forgive him right on the spot like he hasn’t been a complete ass to her these past couple days when she needed him most.
He keeps flipping between the various radio stations just to add to how obnoxious he is being. I know he is supposed to be a good friend of mine and all, but I really cannot stand him this morning. He is singing along to High Hopes by Panic! at the Disco as it was on the station Luke finally landed on during his channel surfing. I’m driving fairly quick trying to get to the appointment exactly ten minutes before it starts like I told Y/N I would. I would have been perfectly on time without driving like a maniac if it wasn’t for mister save the day now sitting in my passenger seat. I wish I wasn’t so angry at him, but I honestly have every reason to be.
Finally, I pull into a parking spot and am walking up the steps of the hospital where I am supposed to meet Y/N with Luke following close behind me.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N’s POV:
You can’t believe your eyes. Calum met me at the hospital just like he promised, but what he failed to mention is that the person of the hour, Luke, would be joining us. In any other circumstance you would be elated to see Luke here, but not today. Not here, not now. You were nervous enough to see your doctor today and discuss your pregnancy but adding the stress of your situation with Luke was not helping anything.
The three of you sit awkwardly in the waiting room, waiting for one of the nurses to call you back. You know both Luke and Calum could tell that you were nervous, but neither of them wanted to help out apparently. You took a couple deep breaths and sat impatiently waiting for your name to be called. The time was crawling by and you really had to pee. You told Calum you were going to be back in a bit and left to use the bathroom. You didn’t tell Luke because you were still mad at him plus, he could probably figure it out if he used his head.
You were back in less than five minutes and right before you sat back down the nurse called you back. You quickly made your way to the door with Calum and Luke close behind you. You sat on the end of the examination table as you told the nurse your age, when you last had your period, and a bunch of other routine stuff. Once that was all documented, she left you three alone and told you that your doctor would be in soon.
“Well this is super awkward,” Luke said breaking the silence of almost three minutes.
“Wouldn’t be so awkward if you didn’t insist on tagging along,” Calum rebutted, his snarky tone obviously getting under Luke’s skin.
“Would you two quit already? Yeah, it’s awkward but you two aren’t helping how I feel in this situation at all. Now either shut up or quit being mean to one another because whether you like it or not you are both here together to support me and this baby even if a certain SOMEONE did not apologize for the way he lashed out at me last week,” you respond, clearly upset with the both of them.
As soon as you end your little speech and Luke starts to open his mouth the doctor knocks on the door and enters the room. She goes over your chart and asks if you have started experiencing any morning sickness which luckily you have not. She asks a couple other questions before she has you go into the bathroom to get a urine sample. She already thinks you are pregnant, but she wants the lab results to confirm this.
Once you give the lab technician your sample, she runs it through the system. By the time you get back to the examination room the results are in. The doctor announces that your test results confirm your pregnancy and asks you to lay down on the exam table and lift up your shirt for your first ultrasound. You are nervous but Calum sits next to you and squeezes your hand. Luke stands at the other end of the room so he could still see the monitor but also, so he is not in the way of anything.
The gel is cool on your stomach which was to be expected but it still caused a couple goosebumps to form along your arms. Usually an ultrasound isn’t routine for your first visit, but you were expected to be far enough along that you could have one done right away. The doctor slowly moved the wand over the gel on your abdomen and watched the monitor to see what you guys were working with. Finally, after what seems like an hour of searching a little image shows up on the monitor. What looks like nothing more than a dark grey blob will soon be a tiny baby in your arms.
The doctor announces that your baby is that blob on the screen and immediately you feel your eyes leak out a couple of salty tears. You were never one to be overly emotional, but you couldn’t help it. That is your baby on the screen. Yours and Calum’s baby. Calum squeezes your hand a little tighter and Luke smiles as all of your eyes are glued to the screen in front of you. The doctor asks if any of you want pictures from the ultrasound to take home with you even though you can’t see much. The three of you nod your heads almost simultaneously which makes her smile and she grabs them for you and tells you about the prenatal supplements you should start taking along with explaining what you should expect from now until the next time you are in her office.
On your way home from the office, Luke asks if he can ride with you. You are about to say you don’t think that is the best idea when Calum gives you a Luke that basically tells you to hear him out. You sigh but decide to listen to Calum’s advice assuming that it would probably be easier on Calum anyway to have some alone time without Luke for once. You walk to your car with Luke trailing behind you as you tell Calum you will meet him back at your apartment. You open your car door and sit down before Luke sighs and starts his lengthy apology.

Can you do 3. “could you just give me some space?” With cal pleaseee. Maybe it can start out as angst and end in fluff. Thanksss
prompt night!
remember to request anything by using this list of prompts x
and as always please give my latest part of numb without you a read if you haven’t already (and get it to 20 notes)
3. “could you just give me some space?”
it had been a rough week for both you and your boyfriend calum. you had four tests and three papers to write for school and he had a deadline with writing. three songs written and demos recorded by the end of the week. you were both incredibly stressed to say the least and were constantly fighting over the little things as a way to express your frustrations with work and school. this particular fight that was occurring at 11pm in your living room was over what the two of you were going to watch on tv before you go to bed. you wanted to watch friends while calum wanted to watch the office for the third time this week.
“calum, we have already watched this episode..” you mention defeatedly, as calum ultimately decided he was the one who got to pick what you were watching for yet another night.
“I don’t care, I want to watch it..” he responded, not even taking his eyes off the screen in order to have a conversation with you.
you get up from the couch and storm off into your shared bedroom, completely over both his attitude and the situation you were in. of course he doesn’t come to check on you right away, he has to finish his dumb episode first. but when he does come in he knocks on the door you slammed shut twenty minutes ago and asks if everything is okay.
“could you just give me some space?” you ask him, wanting a couple more minutes to focus on your breathing and not the writhing anger building in the pit of your stomach.
“sure thing,” he replies, pulling some bedding out of the linen closet outside of your room. he goes back to the couch he was sitting on just moments before and makes himself a makeshift bed there, assuming you are keeping him out of the bedroom for the rest of the night.
when he doesn’t come back thirty minutes later, you start to get worried. you had calmed down by now and you head out into the living room looking for your boyfriend. you find calum half asleep on the couch snuggled underneath an old comforter and laying his head on a shitty pillow that had lost most of its squishiness. you lay kind of on top of him considering the couch is not that wide, and snuggle into calum’s side burying your head into his neck.
“I’m sorry I kicked you out of our room earlier..” you say, trailing off just as quickly as you started.
“no, I’m sorry for being so inconsiderate and stubborn earlier…” he replies, opening his eyes just enough to look at you inches away from his face.
and the two of you stay there for what seems like forever until both of your drift into a deep and peaceful sleep next to each other on your couch.
a/n: okay so I kind of got carried away with this but OOF angsty!calum makes me feel a certain way anyway thank you for this prompt request and I hope you liked it!!

Y/N’s POV:
You let your ringtone go on for another minute, staring at your phone contemplating what exactly you should do. He can’t know what’s going on. He can’t be calling for that reason. In fact, you don’t even know how Calum got your number in the first place. Probably Luke but this all seemed a little too coincidental. If you didn’t answer though he would know something was up. You sigh and press accept hoping that he calls you for some entirely unrelated thing.
“Hello?” you say, surprised that your voice sounds as confident as it does.
“Hey Y/N, have you seen Luke?” Calum asks on the other end.
“Yeah, he just left my place,” you respond, the corners of your mouth quickly turning into a frown as you remembered why he left.
“Okay. I usually wouldn’t bother you with something dumb like that, but he left the studio earlier in a hurry about something, and he wouldn’t tell us what was wrong and now he won’t answer my calls,” Calum states sounding rather defeated.
“Hmm…well I hope you can get a hold of him or he returns soon. Sorry I’m not more of a help,” you reply trying to sound oblivious to the awful situation you recently put Luke through.
“Thanks anyway Y/N. I’ll see you around,” he hangs up immediately after muttering those few words.
You sigh, thankful that Calum kept the conversation short and sweet. You can’t even begin to imagine what exactly you will say to him when the time comes. I mean if your timeline of everything is correct, which it should be because Calum was the last fuck you had, then you’re already three months along. Meaning the baby will be here in six months or less. The thought alone sends shivers down your spine. You’re going to be a mom. In less than a year. Soon. Fuck.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calum’s POV:
You know something’s up with Y/N. You hate to admit it, but you know her pretty well. Not like it is something to brag about, you’ve just been around each other for a while. You’re almost 100% sure she’s the reason Luke ran out of the studio earlier that afternoon. He’s always had a soft spot for her, which you find pretty admirable. You could tell something was wrong though. First of all, she took forever to answer your call. You know she loves her ringtone, but not enough to almost miss your call. Usually you wouldn’t be so observant, but you were worried about her since you took her home that night after the club. You know getting close to her probably isn’t for the best. Luke is very protective of her and you don’t want to intervene more than necessary between the two of them. But if she doesn’t even know where Luke is, maybe I should just drop it. If Luke left her and she’s still sounding upset, you should probably stop by her place.
You finish up at the studio fairly quickly, especially without Luke there to finish up his part of vocals. Once everything is said and done for the day, you grab your car keys and head out to talk to Y/N and make sure she’s okay. Her apartment is about a 20 minutes drive, give or take with traffic. You turn on the radio to ease the drive and immediately start humming along. You recognize the song as Sucker by the Jonas Brothers. You laugh to yourself thinking about when you and the guys covered one of their songs onstage and how fun it was to be that carefree and goofy.
You finally arrive at her apartment complex, relieved that you remembered the way here. As you walk up to her front door, you suddenly feel really awkward for showing up unannounced. You swallow that uneasiness and knock on her door.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N’s POV:
You finally thought you were alone for a little bit when you hear a knock on your door. You don’t recognize the knock, like you normally recognize Luke’s, which makes you nervous. You don’t normally get many visitors, which is what confuses you the most. Your place because a mess after Luke’s dramatic exit and you haven’t had the time, nor could you be bothered with tidying up again. You open the door, not thinking to look and see who it is first and see Calum standing sheepishly in front of you. You stare at him dumbfoundedly for a minute, not knowing exactly what he was doing here. Your subconscious brings up the thought of him knowing something he shouldn’t already, leaving you a bit scared and worried.
“What are you doing here Cal?” you ask as you mentally chastise yourself for using the pet name so soon in conversation. You can see his hesitant with finding the rights words to reply to you with, which worries you even more.
“I…uhm…sorry I stopped by to see if you were alright. You sounded a bit frazzled on the phone and I figured if Luke left then you might need someone…thinking about it now it was probably a bad decision. Fuck, I didn’t even bring you dinner or anything. Not that you can’t cook for yourself it would’ve just been a nice gesture…GOD I need to shut up I’m rambling I’m sorry I think I’m nervous but I know I shouldn’t be because we’ve had a civil conversation before…okay I’m going to stop now,” he mumbles, leaving you to raise your eyebrow at why he is nervous.
“I mean you can come in if you want. I was just about to see if I had anything to make for dinner. If not, we can order take out or something, not really in the mood to leave my apartment tonight,” you say coolly, moving into the kitchen allowing Calum to close the door.
He sits down on your couch, the one you were crying on just minutes before he stopped by unannounced. You rummage through the cupboards and you feel a sudden wave of déjà vu, like you have done this before. Which is true, you have done this before. Moments before in fact with Luke right before you two started the movie. You couldn’t find anything that seemed appetizing in your kitchen, so you sighed and turned towards Calum.
“Nothing sounds good here, is Chinese takeout okay?” you ask him as you pull up your favorite place’s website looking at their specials for the night.
“Yeah that’s fine, do you want me to go pick it up? I know I showed up kind of unannounced and I didn’t really want to intrude, just wanted to make sure you were okay,” Calum replies, getting up off your couch and grabbing his wallet out of his pocket.
“I mean if you don’t mind, I’ll hold down the fort here until you get back. Let me go grab my wallet so I can pay for my half,” you walk into your bedroom to look for wherever you placed your wallet last.
“Don’t worry about it, just order it and I’ll be on my way,” Calum yells from across your apartment.
You smile at the kind gesture, reminding yourself that it is technically the least he could do for everything that has happened. Not that he knows what all went down. Not yet at least. You come out of your bedroom to order what you like and hand your phone to Calum to order his food. He smiles as he hands you your phone back and grabs his things to go pick up the food.
The minute he leaves your apartment you let out a sigh of relief. You know you have to tell him. You can’t hide this from him forever and now seems like a better time than down the road, especially considering you are already three months along. Of course, you can’t be certain as you haven’t seen a doctor, yet which is probably something you should plan to do. In fact, you grab your phone and call your OBGYN’s office while Calum is gone. They set up an appointment for you for Monday morning, four days away. It made you nervous that you would have to be a little late to work for this, but you have to get used to it. This is your life now; doctor’s appointments and juggling work around with it until the baby comes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Twenty minutes later Calum comes back with the Chinese food. He grabs everything out of the bag while you grab utensils and plates. You will never be that person that can eat your food with chopsticks even though you have made quite a collection of them over the years. You grab a plate and pile it with one of everything, even “Calum’s food” which he doesn’t really seem to mind. The two of you eat quietly at the kitchen table with the soft noise of the tv in the background. It wasn’t exactly awkward, but it wasn’t comfortable either. The silence was somewhere painstakingly in the middle.
When you finish your food, you pack up the leftovers for Calum and put your portion of the leftovers in the fridge. You rinse the dishes and throw them in the dishwasher quietly pressing the button to start a new cycle. You go to sit on the couch assuming Calum will follow you over there. It’s now or never.
“Hey Calum, can we talk?” you ask tentatively, knowing he will probably say yes.
“Sure, is everything okay?” he responds, answering your question with another.
You sigh before you start, “I’m going to tell you something and you have to promise not to get angry right away…you’re allowed to be angry later, but you have to let me say everything first, got it?”
He nods in response, a little too afraid to say anything to upset you.
“Okay, here goes nothing. I’m pregnant…I’m pregnant and it’s yours…I guess I’m not 100% sure but I’m 98% sure and I have an appointment scheduled with my doctor on Monday morning to verify everything that I’m pretty positive is happening. I skipped my period two months in a row right after we spent that night together after the club. I was pretty buzzed when we hooked up and for the life of me can’t remember if we used a condom. But if we did, it broke. I’m not on the pill or the shot or anything like that because I used to take it and I gained weight on it and I haven’t been sexually active in a year or so since my ex dumped me. So, I don’t really know who to blame. But this is happening. This is real and I’m sorry. I know you will probably be frustrated about this. Whether your anger is directed towards me or the situation at large, you’re still mad. And I get it. I didn’t find out until earlier today. I took three tests. All positive. I’m sorry. And Luke knows. He called me earlier and thought something was up, so he came over and then he found the tests in my bathroom. I wanted to tell you before him but it kind of slipped. So, I’m sorry for that too. I’m going to stop talking now so you can say something…” you spill all of this information way too fast.
Calum looks at you like a deer caught in headlights, which is honestly what you expected his reaction to be. This is a lot to dump on someone, especially at his age of 23. I mean you were only 22 yourself, how were you going to have this baby now? And after he or she pops out you are going to have to raise them. Who are you going to raise them with? Does Calum even want to be involved? Your mind is racing a million miles a minute with all of these questions, waiting for Calum to say something, anything.
“Wow…I really don’t know what to say. I barely remember that night as well, so I don’t think either of us are really to blame. But we are having a baby. Or like we are 99% sure we are having a baby. Wow. I’m sorry I’m trying to comprehend this all as fast as I can, but this is a lot. You said you have a doctor’s appointment Monday, right? I could come with you. Only if you want of course, I don’t want to intrude. But what I’m trying to say is that I’ll be there if you want me to be. I’m here to help you in any way I can. I want to be there for my child, and for you,” his words almost run together because of how fast he is speaking.
“Thank you,” you finally say, your voice quieter than you intended. “That’s all I could ask is for you to be honest. I’m scared. Scared shitless. But this is happening and god dammit I am going to be a mom whether I like it or not. So here goes nothing,” you conclude.
The way Calum looks at you is the same way he has been looking at you for the three years you’ve known him but somehow it is entirely different at the same time. This is the begin to a long journey that the two of you now have to share.

sick day (luke blurb)
I haven’t written a random blurb in a while so I’m going to write this one :)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You were not feeling the best when you woke up this morning, so you decided to call in sick to work and take the day to relax and rest. You didn’t want to bother your boyfriend, Luke, with taking care of you, so you quietly made yourself a bed out of the couch in the living room. He was still sleeping as he had nowhere to be today and you could take care of yourself just fine. You poured yourself some juice and settled into the couch and spent the next couple minutes flipping through the channels until you found something that suited your interest on tv.
You found a Disney movie that you liked and had it quietly playing as you closed your eyes and tried to fall back asleep. You know you probably could have gone back to bed to cuddle with your boyfriend, but you didn't want to wake him up and you definitely didn't want to get him sick on one of his only days off so this was your next best thing. You heard the songs of Beauty and the Beast in the background as you slowly felt your eyes flutter shut.
About an hour later you wake up to someone’s hand on your face, which made you jump up slightly. Luke was checking your forehead to feel if you had a fever, something he watched you do to him multiple times whenever he came down with the flu. You smile at the thought, sitting up a little more and greeting your boyfriend with a simple hello. You know he didn't mean to wake you up so you really couldn’t be mad that he did. You were supposed to be at work this morning and he knew that you would only stay home if you were not feeling the best.
He kisses your forehead before moving into the kitchen to make himself a cup of coffee. You had always found forehead kisses super sweet, knowing that they were an act of true love. You still didn’t feel the best but the nap you took during half of the movie you were watching definitely helped. You stretched out and started flipping through channels again to pass the time. You wanted Luke to join you in the living room, but you also wanted to keep him as far away from your germs as possible.
He came back into the living room with his coffee cup and another glass of juice for you. You smiled at the gesture, loving how he knew to take care of you. You took this small moment to appreciate Luke and everything he has ever done for you. You are so blessed to have him as your boyfriend and you truly cannot wait to spend the rest of your life with this wonderful man who is sitting across from you in his pajamas.

numb without you (part six)
a/n: we got 20 notes on part 5!!! a little reminder that I would really like to get at least 20 notes on the previous part before I post the next one, so please tell your friends about this series :) I just wanted to take some time to thank each and every one of you for supporting my writing. if you have any suggestions on how you want this series to go, please let me know!! this series has quickly become my baby and I am very proud of it. also, a big giant thank you to el for helping me with the little details of this series and for inspiring me to be soft on a daily basis about both luke and calum. I have so much love for you it’s kind of ridiculous. (read part five here)
pairing: readerxluke
word count: 1.8 k
playlist: numb without you by the maine, risky business by the cab
summary: you get morning sickness for the first time and don’t want to bother Luke with it
warnings: swearing, mentions of puking, slight jealousy
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N’s POV:
Can it even be called morning sickness if you are dry heaving over your toilet at 11pm?
I mean it is a possibility that this is just the aftermath of you eating too much ice cream, but you really doubt it. Especially because your doctor was surprised that you had not experienced any morning sickness yet. Of course, this had to happen right after you were left alone though. You always hated being sick and if right now is any indication of how the rest of this pregnancy is going to go, you better be prepared for a lot of sickness. The waves of nausea are still hitting you pretty hard, but you go into the kitchen to see if you have any ginger ale or sprite or saltine crackers to calm your stomach. That’s what always helped when you were little at least.
After five minutes of frantically looking for food in between the waves of nausea that made you hover over your sink more often than not you decide that you do not have anything that could help you in your current situation. You sigh at the thought that is making its way to the front of your mind as you pick up your phone. You don’t want to call Luke since he was just here, and you really don’t have many other options of people that can help you. But you definitely need someone to get you some ginger ale as soon as possible if you want to make it to work in the morning. You scroll through your contacts and your thumb hovers over the person who you inevitably have to turn to.
Calum.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calum’s POV:
11:55 PM
That’s the time my clock reads when you were rudely woken up by someone calling. The minute you finally open my eyes and see who is calling, you answer right away feeling bad for even thinking negatively about the situation.
“Y/N, what’s wrong? Is everything okay?” you mutter quickly, worried that something bad has happened since you left her earlier today.
“Calum, calm down. I’m okay, the baby is okay…just…fuck can you go to the store and bring me some ginger ale? I’ve been puking for the past hour or I would get it myself…and I would ask Luke, but he recently left and-” Y/N starts but you cut her off.
“I’ll be there in twenty…hang in there,” you say before quickly hanging up and putting on your shoes.
You guess this is only the beginning to your late-night rendezvouses with Y/N, which forms a pit in your stomach worried about the future.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N’s POV:
Literally in twenty minutes flat Calum was at your door step with two bags from the nearby grocery store. You could not be more thankful for him at a time like this. You stop violently retching your guts up about five minutes ago which you were rather pleased about considering you did not want Calum to see you like that…not like he won’t see you at your worst throughout this pregnancy, but today was not that day.
He brought you a two liter of ginger ale, your favorite kind to be exact, and some crackers and other various snacks for when you were feeling a little bit more yourself. You were so thankful that he was able to bring you what you needed, but you can’t help but feel a little guilty that you asked him instead of Luke. In any other circumstance you would’ve asked Luke over Calum but you felt weird asking Luke to come back so soon after he had just left. He’s still your best friend but you don’t want to put all the “father of the baby” type responsibilities on him when Calum is the father and Luke isn’t.
You’re sure this isn’t going to be the only time that you feel this way. It just sucks because you were so close to Luke before this and you don’t want a baby to ruin your relationship with your best friend. God, why couldn’t you have just made your move in Luke instead of Calum. What were you thinking?
Before you could dive deeper into this self pity rabbit hole you were digging yourself, Calum grabs your attention.
“Is there anything else that I can get you before I go home? It’s getting kinda late and I know we both have work in the morning…” he says, pulling you out of your thoughts.
“No no I’m good…thank you again for everything. Sorry that I woke you up…” you respond, feeling bad that you had been so inconsiderate of his time.
You walked him to the front door, thanking him about seven more times for helping you out. He asks you to keep him updated on anything else that happens. Especially the nausea which makes you laugh. And just like that you are alone again. You pour yourself a glass of ginger ale and decide it would probably be best if you got ready for bed considering it was already 12:00 and you had to be up for work at 7:00. You take a sip of your drink, already feeling better and lay down hoping that sleep comes easily tonight. Before you know it, you were out like a light.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~The Next Day~
Luke’s POV:
You can’t believe it. You can’t believe she chose Calum over you. Okay, maybe that is just you being a little dramatic. But she really called Calum last night instead of me? What happened to my best friend who would call me if she needed a bug killed in her apartment? Shouldn’t this be the same thing?
You’re sure she has a reasonable explanation for why she chose him, so you really shouldn’t worry about it. It was just a one-time thing, or that’s what you keep telling yourself. You know you shouldn’t let your emotions get the best of you; jealousy doesn’t look good on you anyway. But the longer you think about it, the more these negative emotions fester inside of you.
You decide to text her.
To: Y/N
From: Luke
Guess Calum is better at midnight runs than me?
You know you shouldn’t have sent that message as soon as you see the “read” sign underneath it.
Shit.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N’s POV:
Oh, you have GOT to be shitting me. He really is pulling this shit right now. When my evening “morning” sickness is in full swing? You really are angry with Luke. Like really really freaking angry. Is he being serious right now? You know your anger can get the best of you and that is definitely what is happening right now. You pick up your phone and dial his number.
“We are not playing whatever this jealousy followed by guilt thing is. If you want to talk come over to mine. And don’t you dare mention anything about the smell of vomit,” you state blatantly, hanging up the phone before he has the opportunity to respond.
Within ten minutes Luke is at your door letting himself in with the key you gave him in case of emergencies, which he determined this was. He found you sitting on the floor of your bathroom, your hair matted down on your forehead and a cup of water sitting next to you. He sits down next to you, rubbing your back and handing you the ginger ale he picked up for you on the way over.
“I’m sorry for being jealous…I’m just not used to someone else taking care of my best friend when she needs it the most,” Luke starts, looking down to avoid eye contact.
He helps you up off the floor and hands you your tooth brush to allow you to brush your teeth and attempt to get the nasty taste out of your mouth. He then goes into your room and grabs some new clothes for you to change into, assuming your other clothes are sweaty from the time spent puking. He found a shirt that used to belong to him and a pair of sweatpants for you to change into and left your room to give you some privacy. You didn’t even realize that he handed you the shirt that until recently belonged to him when you changed shirts. When you were finished getting changed you went into the living room where you found Luke sitting on your couch, his favorite blanket of yours already draped across his lap. You sit next to him and he shares the blanket with you, giving you a sheepish smile.
“I’m going to tell you something and you have to promise me that you won’t be mad about it, at least not at first,” you say, hoping that he will comply and not say anything to test your patience anymore.
“Okay, I’m listening,” he replied, allowing you to say everything you need to.
“Here goes nothing…recently I have had a lot of time to think and reflect on what I want to happen in the next couple months before the baby comes. I have given it a lot of thought and I don’t think there will be any romantic involvement between me and Calum. That being said, I still want him to be a part of the baby’s life and he will be around me and the baby from here on out. But you are still my best friend. I want you to be here as often as you want, but you have to understand that I don’t always want to bother you with little things like getting me ginger ale at odd hours of the night. You have to know that Calum is going to want to be as much a part of this pregnancy as you may want to be. He is always going to be the baby’s father and he will always be around now. He is your friend too so this should not be that big of a deal. You’re my best friend, Luke and you always will be. I just wanted you to know my headspace with all of this so I would have some peace of mind. So if you could please put your jealousy aside and just embrace the fact that your goddaughter or godson will be here in less than six months that would be very helpful,” you ramble, completely disregarding the fact that you just spilled the beans on asking Luke to be your baby’s godfather.
To be continued…

3 and 8 with Calum please
(finishing up) prompt night!
remember to get my latest part of numb without you a read if you haven’t already
3. “could you just give me some space?”
8. “do you need a hand?”
Calum was working late into the night on yet another song. this had become a recent occurrence considering he was hard at working writing the third album. you hated how much sleep he was losing because of his work and you hated even more how you couldn’t sleep until he got into bed with you. You tried hard to close your eyes and fall asleep. You tried counting sheep, thinking back on your day, literally everything you could think of to fall asleep, but nothing was working. Frustrated, you got up to go make some tea in the kitchen for you and your boyfriend.
You walk into the studio of your small home which used to be an office but you and Calum converted it into a home studio so he could spend more time with you and more time at home in general. You hand him the cup of tea you made for him and sit down in the cozy nook you made for this specific purpose.
“Do you need a hand?” you ask him, willing to help in any way you can.
“Could you just give me some space?” Calum asks, coming off a lot more stand offish than he meant to.
You nod and get up from your spot and head back to your bedroom. You know he didn’t mean to be so short with you. Writing when it already isn’t going his way frustrates Calum to no end. You don’t blame him for his words, but they still don’t hurt any less.
An hour later you hear the soft patter of Calum’s feet walking from the studio to your bedroom. He quickly changes into his pajamas and slips under the covers next to you in bed. He smiles sheepishly at you, turning to your normal sleeping position. His breath softly whisks across your ear as he closes his eyes.
“I’m sorry about earlier,” he whispers, unaware of if you were still awake or not.
“It’s okay,” you whisper back, lacing your hand in his.
And soon the two of you drifted off into one of the deepest sleeps both of you had in a while.
a/n: sorry this was so short, but I hope you liked it! this was my last prompt in my inbox but feel free to send me blurb ideas at any time :) also just thinking about sleeping next to calum makes me feel butterflies in my stomach oh my god

numb without you (part seventeen)
a/n: um I suck at updating but I guess you know that now. miss el keeps reminding me that we should write more so here I am giving you part 17 of my series that I swear has a whole two people reading on a good day. I’m gonna try to update at least once a week so please someone hold me to this because as much as I love this story, I need it to be OVER. Also these updates are hopefully gonna be a little bit longer than past parts because again I want the story to be done and I don’t have the time to write a bunch of smaller updates but I do have the time to write one big update every now and then so yeah that’s what’s going on. as always, a special shout out to miss el for being my main inspiration behind this story and all the little details. read part sixteen here x

warnings: swearing, mentions of nausea
Calum’s POV:
You just got off the phone with your sister for what seemed like four hours but only ended up being two at best. You didn’t realize how long it had been since the two of you had an actual conversation, and there was a lot for you to catch each other up on. Once you were both caught up on each other’s personal and professional lives, you finally asked Mali for the advice you were searching for. As always, she knew exactly what to do. You were glad you had her in your life at this moment, as she seemed to know step by step what needed to be done in order for you to keep your two favorite girls together.
Moments after you got off the phone with your sister, you decide you should probably head to bed. You wanted to reach out to Y/N as soon as possible, but Mali told you she probably needed some space. You know she probably wouldn’t respond at this hour anyway. RM/N decided to stay at a friend’s house tonight because of all of the commotion, but you really know she just wanted to give you space as well. It has been a while since you had the house all to yourself and you wish you could actually enjoy it instead of wasting the night away by sleeping. The sooner you fall asleep the sooner you could contact both of your girls though, so you quietly made your way to your bedroom in order to change into your pajamas and head to bed.
---------------------------------------------
~the next day~
Y/N’s POV:
You woke up to Luke’s arm lazily draped across your chest. You can’t say you haven’t pictured a morning like this before, but you never really thought it would be a reality. At least not this soon. You felt yourself have a brief moment of panic, wondering if you and Luke went any farther than kissing last night until you remember you were five and a half months pregnant with Calum’s child. Of course, as soon as you thought about the little angel growing inside of you, she started to kick. You smiled, knowing that somehow some way she knew you were thinking about her. Once you finally got Luke’s heavy arm shimmied off of your body, you walked into your kitchen to find something to eat. It only took you walking out of your bedroom door to remember the shitty situation that brought you and Luke back to your apartment where you shared your first kiss.
You let yourself sleep in a little bit, probably because you were comfortable in someone else’s arms, and it was now almost eleven in the morning. You find some things to make peanut butter toast, something you normally wouldn’t eat for breakfast, but you can tell your baby wants some protein and this is all you can muster since making eggs now makes you nauseous. Making yourself breakfast takes all of five minutes and before you know it you have cleaned your plate as Luke walks into the kitchen.
You smile at him as he returns one to you sheepishly, scratching the back of his head before he joins you at your small island which doubles as a kitchen table. The air is still between the two of you, an awkward silence falling over your heads as you get up to put your plate in the dishwasher. You expected things to be a little weird between the two of you considering everything that went down last night, but the silence was agonizing. You sit back down next to him and whip out your phone. What you were about to do seemed a little too high school for your current age and situation, but it was the only solution your mind could come up with after being awake for not even an hour.
“So are we just gonna give each other the silent treatment after what happened last night…” you text Luke. You try to sneak a look at him as he is reading your text, hoping that he will communicate with you at least over text, making the entire situation a little less awkward for the both of you. You feel a twinge of guilt in the back of your throat because you are communicating with Luke before you even attempt to reach out to Calum, but you think it would be easier to figure things out with the tall boy in your kitchen before you deal with the father of your child who royally fucked up the night before. You see Luke smile a little before he quickly types a response back to you.
“That would be a pretty shitty plan on our end, wouldn’t it?” he adds a couple of silly emojis at the end of this message, trying to lighten the mood. You laugh at your poor attempt at communicating with the boy who could easily be the love of your life, your soulmate forever, but it is way too early to know such a thing as that, so you don’t allow your brain to travel into that seemingly unknown realm of love with him. Not yet at least.
“Do you want any breakfast? I don’t have much at my place, but I’m sure I can find something for you to eat along with the coffee that I know you’ll ask for,” you tell Luke, digging through your pantry for something easy to make him in case he takes you up for something more than his coffee.
“No, I can find something and make it myself. You act like I haven’t been over breakfast before, don’t worry about me… Have you talked to Calum since the whole debacle last night?” Luke questions as he finds the jar of Nutella, he has kept in your pantry for the past couple months. He moves around your kitchen with ease, obviously comfortable with your place and the current situation that the two of you experimented with the night prior. You smile at how comfortable he is around you, especially after the heated night the two of you shared in your living room. You finally gathered up the courage to kiss your best friend and you were so afraid that it was going to ruin everything the two of you had with your wonderful friendship, but so far you were in the clear for any mishaps between the two of you.
“Not yet…I was actually gonna give him a call sometime today to ask him if he wanted to meet up for lunch and talk this whole situation out a little more. I obviously can’t just ignore him until the baby comes, so I thought I better work this out now. I might even invite RM/N to tag along so I can talk to her about everything too. It seems like she is gonna stick around for a while whether or not she’s “the one” so we have to be on the same page about everything as well. Is it okay if I go into my room now and call him now so I don’t forget anything?” you ramble in response to Luke, hoping he respects that you need some privacy in order to talk to Calum.
“I’m so proud of you,” Luke states bluntly, barely looking up from his plate of breakfast as he says the rather shocking statement that caught you slightly off guard.
“What?” you reply, obviously confused by both his bluntness and the nature of this statement.
“I’m proud of you,” Luke responds, “This time last year you wouldn’t have been half as logical and forgiving in this kind of a situation. Not to mention the fact that you are reaching out to him first even though he is the one obviously in the wrong AND you are making an effort to mend things with RM/N even if she won’t be around by the time the baby is born. If I didn’t know any better, I would say you being a mom has already made you mature by like ten years.”
“Are you saying that mentally I am almost 40 years old?” you retort, goofily smiling at the man you so desperately want to be yours. But that is a hoop you have to jump through another day considering the amount of shit that is currently on your plate with Calum and RM/N. Luke smiles back at you and tells you to go call Calum while he cleans up after himself in the kitchen and jumps in the shower. And that is exactly what the two of you do.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Calum’s POV:
You just got off the phone with Y/N and to your surprise she wants to meet up with you to talk things out like the adults you are. You were to meet her at a local bistro about twenty minutes from your house and she even invited you to bring RM/N along. You were a little caught off guard with how quickly she reached out to you, but her idea for the two of you to talk things out is exactly the thing Mali told you to do when you asked her for advice. You were actually gonna call her up a little later in the day and ask if she wanted to meet you for dinner so you two could talk, but the sooner all of this is cleared up the better.
You were also surprised that she wanted RM/N to be involved in the conversation. You know that RM/N is going to be around for a long time, if not forever, but you really couldn’t tell if the guys and Y/N caught on to that yet or not considering they have all only known about each other for a few days. Obviously, Y/N caught on because she was inviting RM/N along with the two of you to seriously talk things out. You know this conversation will be centered around the baby and how she is due in the coming months and you’re sure that Y/N wants to work out all the details about how involved RM/N wants to be in her life versus how much you want her to be involved and considering how much Y/N wants her to be involved in your daughter’s life. You also mentioned to Y/N that RM/N had helped you with the specifics of her baby shower so you should probably update Y/N on that as well and see who all she wants to be invited to the party and if RM/N should even plan on attending or not. A lot of things are currently up in the air so this lunch should clear a lot of details up.
You decide that it would be best for RM/N to join you and Y/N later in the day to talk about her role in all of this. If you are being honest with yourself all of this confrontation and planning and working things out kind of stresses you out. No, more than that. This whole situation stresses you the fuck out, but you don’t want to lead Y/N or RM/N on to believe that because you are supposed to be the levelheaded one of the group. Before you could worry any more about the lunch you were about to have with the mother of your child you realize that you have exactly two minutes to gather yourself and your thoughts in order to get to the restaurant on time. You take a deep breath, inhaling and exhaling slowly, before grabbing your wallet and your keys and heading to the place where you were supposed to meet Y/N to figure things out over lunch.

Heyyyy I love your writing!! And I was wondering if the prompts were still open?? If it is, could you do no.1 (how do you like your coffee?) with Mikey? I’m in the mood for some soft Mikey stuff!! Love youuu ♥️♥️
Hi!!! I am always down for a good prompt. Thank you so much for sending a request in :)
You had stayed over at Michael’s for the first time since the two of you had started dating. You didn’t really plan it or anything, you were just over at his house watching game of thrones and lost track of time. You were both tired and Michael convinced you to just stay the night to make sure that you were safe instead of trying to drive home in your exhausted state. You drifted off to sleep in his arms not thinking anything about how big of a step it was for you to stay the night.
You woke up the next morning feeling cold sheets next to you, a little confused where you crashed for the night. After you rubbed your eyes and actually got out of bed, you quickly remembered where you were. You smiled at the fact that you actually slept over. Then you remembered that Michael was not sleeping next to you in his bed and decided to go find what he was up to so early in the morning.
After searching in all of his normal hiding places, you finally find him in the kitchen pouring himself a cup of coffee.
“You are up early” you say, admiring how soft your boyfriend looks in his pajamas.
“Yeah, thought I would get an early start to the day,” Michael replies, smiling to you.
He adds some sugar and cream to his coffee, stirring the contents together until it is all the same consistency again. You admire the little moments like these when it is just the two of you. You lose yourself in another train of thought as Michael asks you a question.
“What was that?” you ask, a little ashamed that you were so zoned out that you didn’t hear what your boyfriend said.
“How do you take your coffee?” he asks again, smiling as he looks at you.
You tell him how you take your coffee and he grabs a mug for you, making it just the way you like it.
(I hope you liked this blurb!! sorry it took so long for me to write it)

numb without you (part thirteen)
a/n: hello again!! a big shout out to miss el for being a constant inspiration to this story and to my life in general!!! Thank you as always for supporting my writing and my story as you read this series. I am going to try to update this as soon as I can, but school is picking up again and I need to focus on the end of this semester first and foremost. I am not getting nearly the amount of views I used to get on the earlier parts, but it is alright. I know that aiming for 20 notes on each update before I post the other one is a lot to ask, so I just ask that you share this story with your friends and please send me any suggestions and comments you have on this series in my inbox as it is always open and I love feedback :) you can read part twelve here and with that being said: happy reading!

summary: you try to figure out Calum and his roommate, you are invited over to sort thing out
warnings: swearing
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N’s POV:
Not even an hour after your daughter oh so lovingly kicked you a total of three times, twice for you and once for her father, you were back on the subject that was stressing you out in the first place. You knew that you probably should not be freaking out as much as you currently were regarding Calum having a female roommate, but you also know Calum just a little too well to think that she was just a roommate. The fact that he was waiting to introduce her to you and Luke, and the guys obviously means he cares about her and did not want to fuck anything up. You admired how much he already seemed to care about her, but you can’t help but think that she will take away from your little family. It’s not that you care for Calum in a romantic way, but you are worried about how present he will be with all the baby stuff if he is more worried about fucking his roommate.
Luke and Calum are still bickering over the subject in hushed tones down the hall thinking that you won’t hear them because of their attempted secrecy. You can practically hear every word that is coming out of their angry whispers. You now know that Luke is advocating for Calum to be there for you and the baby by any means necessary considering he is the reason the three of us are in this current situation today and he warns Calum not to cause another “mistake” as he put it with regards to his roommate and the romantic involvement he most likely has with her.
You decide to walk even further away from that hostile environment by going into the guest bedroom and looking through some of the baby stuff you have already purchased for your daughter. You know you still have a few months until she is here, but you got started on the nursery and some other baby stuff out of pure excitement. As you organize the items in the room, your mind starts to wander. You wonder if Calum’s roommate is nice, if she is skinnier than you (which she is…considering you are four going on five months pregnant), what she is doing in LA, amongst other things. You really want to meet her just to see what she is about, but if your conversation with Calum earlier is any indication of how that conversation is going to go, you might not get the option of meeting her. You shake your head, hoping the thought you just had would get out of your head quicker that way, and you continue to sort through the pile of baby things you have accumulated throughout this pregnancy thus far.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luke’s POV:
“Well, are you at least going to let them meet each other?” you ask Calum blatantly. You already know what he is going to say, but you want to hear it come from his mouth again for shits and giggles.
“I don’t know yet,” Calum replies, “it’s a lot to figure out and I don’t necessarily need an angry pregnant lady on my hands.”
“Dude, you are sooooo past that,” you respond, knowing Y/N fairly well yourself and easily identifying what makes her tick, “it would be easier on your part to just let Y/N meet RM/N. That way she will know who may be a part of your daughter’s life, if things are really getting as serious as you claim they are.”
“I know…but I just don’t want her to barge into my house and ask to meet RM/N right then and there. I know I have kind of kept her from you guys for some time, but it wasn’t for nothing. I really do care about her…probably way more than is healthy for a normal human being but whatever. I just don’t want Y/N to feel abandoned on replaced or anything like that. I am going to be here for her and the baby and anything the two of them ever need or desire…” Calum trails off after rambling on for a while.
You understand where he is coming from, but you also could not relate entirely to his situation. You have had feelings for Y/N for a while, but she was never a secret from the other guys. In fact, the first time you met Y/N was when you were with the other three, grabbing coffee from a nearby coffee and bookshop that Calum insisted all four of you check out because it was going to be his new hang out as he was moving into his newly purchased house. But you surely know what it feels like to love someone with every inch of your being and you could tell Calum felt this way about RM/N just by the way he was talking about her and the worry he had on his face when he found you sitting in his living room talking to her the night before.
“Just promise me you won’t fuck with Y/N’s emotions any more than you already have with this baby hormone shit she is currently dealing with…and please allow them to meet soon if not tonight because if you make her wait any longer she is going to go crazy imaging the worst things possible,” you explain to Calum, hoping he understand the severity of the problem he has created and how it will impact Y/N and the stress she is inevitably going to put on the baby because of this peculiar situation.
He nods in response as the two of you have finally completed your conversation that consisted mainly of hushed angry whispers and a lot of disapproving glances that the two of you exchanged in the past few minutes. You head back into the living room, assuming that Calum was going to take the reins on this next conversation the three of you were about to share regarding the predicament at hand.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calum’ POV:
You really got yourself into quite a jam now. Obviously, you expected that Y/N and RM/N would meet one day, but you weren’t necessarily expecting it to be today. You shoot your roommate a quick text to warn her that some friends were coming over before you explain the game plan to Luke and Y/N. This was not a soccer match with plays and positions, but you went about it the same way since there were a lot of obstacles and touchy subjects you had to dance around once you reached your house and those who are inside of it. There will have to be a delicate balance between both the timeline of things and the whole “oh yeah, she’s pregnant” type of thing. You are worried about the outcome of your two worlds colliding, but you also know it is now or never.
“How about we head to my house so everyone can meet everyone else?” you suggest, hoping that Luke and Y/N will comply and follow you to your house to let this all unfold.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N’s POV:
Luke is driving the two of you to Calum’s house as you mess with the aux cord and what songs you were going to play for your short drive. It took maybe 15 minutes to get from your place to Calum’s which gave you enough time to play three or four songs. You spent a while picking which songs you were going to que up, wanting to get your point across about your current back and forth romantic situation with Luke. You did not want to come off as desperate, but now that you know that Luke knows that you and Calum are not romantically invested in one another maybe that means that he will finally make a move. After some careful consideration, you decide on playing If I’m Lucky by State Champs. You felt a little awkward playing a song by a band that Luke and the guys have toured with before, but you hope that Luke just appreciated you filling the silence of his car with some decent music and did not waste his mental capacity on something as minute as who is singing the words you were yearning to tell him yourself but could not find the right words to articulate your message in the correct fashion.
“If you stay or if you go I’m right there with you but you know that I’m looking for more than just a pretty smile and if I’m lucky you could stay for a while but…” the song sings softly through the speakers of his car, the words as melodic as you remembered.
You did not want to force anything between the two of you, nothing works out in your favor if it was forced and you are a strong believer in everything happening for a reason, so you decide to leave the situation up to fate itself. As cheesy as it sounds, you really do not want to ultimately ruin the good friendship that you and Luke share for this whole romantic thing to not work out the way you want to. You would rather be alone forever than lose a friendship as important as Luke’s. You glance over at him a few times as the song plays to see if he is looking your way or if he is thinking intently.
You could always tell when he was thinking intently because he would unintentionally scrunch up his nose as he concentrated on whatever was on his mind and it was one of your favorite things about him. You could see a slight flicker in his eye, like he wanted to say something, but did not think it was the right time to get into whatever was on his mind at the time. You let it slide this time, hoping that the time will come when the two of you could stop dancing around your feelings and just embrace them instead. You wanted nothing more than to be in Luke’s strong arms in this moment with him whispering into your ear that everything is okay and everything is going to work out for the best, but you know that neither of you are in a position to be that way currently. You inhale and exhale slowly, accepting the fact that nothing is going to happen between the two of you right now. Maybe soon, but not quite yet.
Before you knew it the two of you were pulling into the familiar driveway of Calum’s house, where you saw the grey car that must belong to his roommate parked inside of his garage. You inhale sharply, trying to prepare yourself in any way that you could before meeting someone that could easily be the wicked witch of LA based on the information you have about Calum and his exes. Luke is by your side quicker than when he left it, slightly lacing his hand in yours as the three of you enter Calum’s place.
You haven’t been here since the night at the club, but everything seemed to be exactly where you left it, which surprised you slightly because you thought the roommate would make the place look a little less like a twenty something year old male threw some decorations here and there and called it a home. Nevertheless, you walked into the living room, gripping Luke’s hand the moment the two of you took a seat on the couch, waiting for Calum to come back from getting his roommate in order for him to introduce everyone. This all felt more awkward and forced than the Dinner Party episode of the Office and you wished for nothing more than some dumb song to distract you from the weird air that seemed to be surrounding this entire situation that Calum has put you all in.
She walks into the room with an awkward smile plastered across her face as she sits in the love seat adjacent to where you and Luke have settled for the moment, extending her hand to shake yours and formally introduce herself. She opens her mouth to speak and she allows the words to slip off her tongue with ease.
“Nice to meet you, Y/N.”
