Snarry-a-Thon 2012 Recs

Snarry-a-Thon is an annual fest of Snarry goodness that always brings so much creativity and joy in the Snarry community. I am forever blown away by how much talent and passion Snarry-lovers have. With that in mind, I wanted to create some special recs for a fest near and dear to my heart.

With that, here are my Top 5 picks for the 2012 fest! But first...

6.) What’s the last thing you read that made you laugh?

Hmmmm. You know. I really had to think about this one. But I'm pretty sure it was Luck of the Draw, from this year's Snarry-a-Thon! The dialogue is A+, with the trio's bickering, then...well...Snarry's bickering. 😂 But it was also a pretty feel-good read so there was probably some just happy laughing in there, too.

12.) Friends with benefits or secret dating?

My gut reaction was "secret dating" until the potential of "friends iwth benefits" occurred to me. Like..."we're just FWB" but both secretly in love and pining while they're actively fucking??? Chef's friggin' kiss on that one, dude.

So now it's hard, but I still wanna say "secret dating." It just slaps in Snarry, you know? They both know how people are gonna react when they find out, and it's so much easier to just keep this one thing to themselves, sacred. Then also trying to sort things out between them. Like, they're both confused enough and dealing with the complication of how madly in love they are, without trying to bring other people into it!!!!

Oh oh oh....the ultimate would be secret FWB to secret boyfriends. Think of all the DRAMA and ANGST!!!! 😍

17.) Describe a fic that is still in the ‘ideas’ stage.

Oh lordy. Hmm. Well I have a sequel in mind for Cruel Summer. This takes place years after the events of Cruel Summer, but with flashbacks to the immediate aftermath of Cruel Summer. Harry still obviously impacted by what he went through, also dealing with feelings for Severus, and then Sirius comes back, so just...lotsa messiness, of course, and big angst. I think that's one of the only things that hasn't gotten to the 'outline' stage yet.

The only other one won't see the light of day anytime soon, and will probably sound absolutely bonkers, but...I REALLY want to write a HP + PJO crossover. I've had that in mind for a while. Like...imagine Professor Potter, Head of Gryffindor, acting as basically a hero mentor for Percy Jackson. But like "okay no this is bad, you're a kid, but also...back when I was a boy hero..." But now I'm getting more ambitious with it and like "wouldn't it be cool if it was this massive monster crossover...." Just squishing all sorts of characters into the Wizarding World. PJO characters, His Dark Materials characters...various other medias...it's all very vague rn. But also BACKGROUND SNARRY. Mostly genfic with Harry playing mentor to students, but of course Snarry must be married. Maybe it'll be this big ole SHOCKER to Percy + pals. Idk we'll see, I have too many projects in the meantime, and that one is gonna be WORK. 😄

5.) What is the perfect environment for you to write in?

MY OFFICE!!!!

Eddie (my partner) and I decluttered and reorganized our home recently. We still have some smaller projects to tackle, like the kitchen cabinets and the outdoor shed, but...the point is, we've made a lot of progress!

(Forgive the rambling but I'm really happy and wanna talk about it!)

Our space has been super cluttered and chaotic for a while because my partner's work hours were insane, and they've only been slightly less insane the past year. And over time, my own motivation to stay on top of things, basically alone, waned. But late November/early December we were super motivated to get moving and we did! Every weekend we'd tackle another room. Donated a bunch of excess stuff. Got supplies we needed to set up some stuff. And voila!

When we moved in, what is meant to be a dining room (but neither of us has use for a dining room) was made into a computer room, and our spare room was...basically a library? But for our fantasy books specifically. But our needs changed over time, so now the dining room is my office! And the spare room is his fantasy/MTG/DnD/Nerd Cave.

So rather than just my desk crammed into the computer room (slash junk room, basically) I now have my very own space! My HP bookcase is in there, a bookcase for my astrology books, a desk bookcase for reference books. I have various figures all around, and my mugs on the wall, and SNARRY ART. SO MUCH SNARRY ART. I AM SPOILED BY SNARRY ART AND I NEED MORE. Ahem. Anyway. Basically I have a very special space and it's perfect and it brings me so much joy and I'm all teary just typing about it.

ANYWAY. I now have the Ultimate Writing Space. But I've not properly used it for writing yet. 😂 It's only been properly set up for a few weeks and I've not written much since I submitted White Lies & Silver Bells.

Wait wait I lied I wrote Again last weekend 🤣 So it might be more accurate to say I've not written much there yet. And tbf I was fangirling too much about writing fic for A_Loveunlaced's art to properly appreciate the experience. 😅

But it's great! The aesthetic is great. I have much inspiration from all the Snarry. I have candles to set the mood! I have comfort in the layout, from my laptop stand, to my ergonomic keyboard and my vertical mouse, and my footrest! I have lots of lighting options between my whimsical string lights and the mood lighting from our Philips Hue bulbs. I have much coffee! And since my office is what should be the dining room, it's so close to my InstantPod!!!! Just a few steps, grab a mug along the way, and COFFEE!

Ideally I'd have some ambient noise playing. I have enough room to prop up my ipad and pull up YouTube to pull up a video from MiracleForest or one of the Hogwarts Pomodoro videos. That way I have chill noise that isn't distracting and nice imagery!

Idk I have everything I need in one little area and it has such a good vibe and it genuinely brings me so so much joy. I still have a few art pieces to hang but once it's all finally finished I plan on sharing pics with everyone!! 😁

And with luck, I'll get more writing done there this weekend!! I'm getting a head start on Thon 😎 (in theory, anyway.)

12.) Is there a trope you haven’t written yet but really want to?

Omg!! Probably. But what is it...? 🤔

The big one that I can feasibly write soonish would be soulmates! Even though Snarry are soulmates so every Snarry fic is a soulmate fic, but I digress. But I have an actual idea for one!! Mega angst and wrongness and weirdness. I've made a few attempts but the time isn't right yet. It's not come out right so far, so I just poke at it every few months and see how I'm feeling about it.

Others I have vague desire to write, but have no actual ideas for yet, would be like amnesia!! I want a good amnesia fic where Harry forgets Severus and has a super negative reaction to his present life and Severus being all heartbroken and defensive...😌

Also! I'd love to write a case fic, I just don't know that I have the right skillset for that. Or maybe it just requires more time and thought than I can really give right now. Who knows! But I really do need more Snarry case fics in my life.

Oh! I actually do have an idea for an arranged marriage fic, but I'm still hacking out the details on that one.

OH!! And a sex pollen fic I need to write.

Okay so I have more Actual Ideas than I thought I did, oops. But yeah! Lotsa cool stuff to play with one day. But I don't really wanna pump out stories for the sake of writing an amnesia fic, but to have something really solid that I'm really excited about. And even when I do have ideas, other ideas are ones I'm more jazzed about and steal my attention...😬 So I'll get there one day! Maybe!

⏰ Do you spend more time reading fic, writing fic, or do you do both equally?

Hmmm! When I'm at optimal capacity I think I do both equally. Otherwise I go through phases of doing one more than the other. If we tallied up all the time over the years, I probably read more. It was my first great passion in life! But lately I've been doing more writing! I do have a fest fic I need to write, like...soon. 😅

Once life settles down a bit more hopefully I'll get back to doing both equally. I think my enjoyment of reading and writing both improve when I'm giving equal time to both. Reading fires up my imagination, and writing my own work helps me appreciate others' works even more!

What a great question that I TOTALLY know the answer to...totally...👀 (Once I count them, just a moment.)

11! No wait, 12. TWELVE, WHICH I TOTALLY KNEW THIS WHOLE TIME. Wow, is it really 12?

11 of those will hopefully be on standby while I focus on Snarry-a-Thon but y'know...I can never trust my self-control. I always have far too many ideas for the amount of time I actually have!

🌝 Who is one character you haven’t yet written for that you would like to?

Ooh this is a tough one! I'm going to read this as what character POV I've not written yet.

Ron would be fun, though challenging. Oddly I feel the way about writing Ron that I feel about writing Snape and that's this great need to get his voice just right, and fearing that I'll never be able to! Only spend much more time with Snape's character and feel a tad more comfortable trying as opposed to Ron. Though I really want to write a Draco/Ron fic from Ron's POV one day!

Narcissa is another I'd like to do. I have strong feelings about writing Hermione/Narcissa one day from Narcissa's POV...Though I think I'd have an easier time in Hermione's POV!

Then...Gwenog Jones is one I don't think I've written at all, even as a non-POV character, but I very badly want Ginny/Gwenog to exist so...I'm gonna have to make that happen one day.

But as for characters I just want to write their POV for their own sake (and not for shipping reasons) I think that's just Ron, really!
