now I’m having Thoughts so I might as well
this would be how I want it, but trying to keep it realistic to the previous writing
we have our season 2 recap and end with Chris staring into the camera like he’s dying
we open on the Gorn ship. It’s dark and creepy and we hear the clicking. The prisoners are panicking. La’an and co. assess the situation and decide they are in trouble. La’an has an angsty line about the gorn being monsters.
it’s set up to be a Chris episode but I’m already so tired so let’s make it a La’an episode. I want flashbacks. IN FACT, we opened with a flashback. The creepy ship was a flashback, we saw little La’an, and then we went to grown La’an and crew talking.
back to enterprise. Let’s not make their momentary escape a big deal that takes up time, let’s just say they’re away somewhere safe-ish for the moment. The bridge crew- pointedly missing Erica, La’an, and M’Benga- discuss their options. After Pike insists they’re going to get their people back, Spock is assigned to find a way to get onto the gorn ship.
Pike dismisses everyone but Una stays. She knows what he’s thinking, but she’s absolutely not letting him onto that ship. He froze on the bridge and he’s compromised. Una has super strength, and as first officer she’s supposed to take the dangerous missions anyway. Pike is all “you don’t understand, I have to” and Una drops her friendly approach. My crew too. La’an is over there. Chris you are not fit for this. She convinces him but he’s angsty about it.
On the Gorn ship, Sam is panicking. La’an tells him to shut up and he gets mad, and Erica goes to calm him down. M’Benga checks on La’an and says he knows how hard this is. Our favorite tragic past girlie goes no you don’t. Erica comes back and reports on the morale of the prisoners. Second flashback, little La’an is being shoved through a gorn ship with other prisoners. Someone tries to run and they get eaten.
ENTERPRISE
Chris goes to check on Batel. She has accepted her impending death and he has Not. They have a little tiff about it. Chris reveals that a team is going over. Christine comes over with meds and Chris leaves. Batel goes get me stable enough to join the mission.
meanwhile, Spock, Pelia, and Una are discussing how to get to the gorn ship and back. They need a way to keep in contact without the gorn knowing. Una repeatedly emphasizes that they do in fact need a way back. Scotty and Uhura are hanging around and Scotty suggests something. Uhura builds on it. Something something phase harmonics something something transporters. Spock and Pelia go sounds legit. Una says do it.
GORN SHIP
La’an is briefing the other three on what the gorn are going to do. It is not fun. She’s going off about how they’re animals and monsters and Sam is like… they have spaceships. Let’s assume some rationality. La’an is like nO you don’t uNdERsTanD. We need to RUN. yes but we need a plan. They start to make a plan.
ENTERPRISE
chris gets a call from April and he’s ordered to retreat. They fight about it. April ends the call with a definitive get back here or so help me.
Una and her team (Spock, some redshirts, Scotty to set up a way to get them back) are suited up and ready to go. Chris comes to see them off. Batel walks in, also suited up, and Chris goes absolutely NOT but it’s not up to him. She’s immune to gorn it makes no sense to leave her behind. We’ll talk about this when I get back. They beam away.
Uhura calls him in a panic. The communication set up isn’t working. The away team is on their own.
GORN SHIP
La’an and co. are on the move. Sam works out where the transporter room is and he and M’Benga are going to get the prisoners there. La’an and Erica are going to find the engine room and lower the shields. Flashback to little La’an being dumped on the breeding planet.
The away team doesn’t have comms. They start to creep through the ship towards human life signs.
Flashback to little La’an being captured and put in the lifeboat. Erica and La’an talk as they head towards the engine room. If we want a little Erica backstory here we can do that. They mostly talk about the gorn. They get to the engine room and start to work with on the shields. Something clicks in the shadows. They don’t see it.
the away team finds the prisoners. M’Benga tells Una La’an and Erica went for the engine room. Una and Batel go after them while Scotty and Spock work on the transporters. Scotty has an idea about communication.
a gorn attacks La’an and Erica from the shadows. La’an is knocked over and her vision (and the camera) goes fuzzy. Little La’an is in the lifeboat, oxygen is falling, it’s very cold. Grown La’an sees/hears phaser fire, and sees the gorn go down. A figure in Starfleet gold approaches little La’an, kneels next to her. “Hello? Can you hear me?” The face comes into focus. Grown La’an “Una?” (This is the main moment I want. Do what you want with the rest I want this moment specifically). Una pulls La’an to her feet and I want a hug but I will settle for La’an about to break down and Una squeezes her arm or something. We see the gorn got her with the venom and La’an starts to panic but Una calms her down. One problem at a time.
Batel and Erica have done something to the shields. And they can destroy the other gorn ships, just for fun. Someone would have to stay behind, though.
Scotty is doing some wire engineering thing and goes I’ve got it!
ENTERPRISE
Chris is STEWING. Uhura is on the comms, doing her best. They get a signal. They start to beam people over.
GORN SHIP
the girls are fighting about who gets to die. Batel is like I’m dying anyway let me do this for my crew. Una goes well I’m dying too so checkmate. If she wants to fight dirty, Una goes what am I going to say to Chris? Batel is like it’s my choice. Also, you think Chris would forgive me if I came back without you? Another gorn drops by and goes for La’an, and Una puts herself in between. (Yes I realize if she’s been sprayed the gorn shouldn’t attack her. Don’t worry about it I’m working on it. It wouldn’t be the biggest plot hole in this show.) Batel jumps in front of her, and the gorn backs off. Erica kills it/knocks it out. Batel says she’ll call when she’s ready to go. Una sends La’an and Erica back but she’s going to try to stay. Batel calls for her to be beamed out and the enterprise obeys.
ENTERPRISE
Una goes no send me back!!! Or get her out!!! She’s trying to sacrifice herself!! Scotty works on it but for technobabble reasons it can’t be done. Chris talks to Batel and she says goodbye. We see her on the gorn ship, she does not look good. The lizard babies are coming and she’s running out of time. The angst. The chaos. Batel takes out all the gorn ships.
for whatever reason the enterprise is buffeted by the explosion or something. They get out. Chris is shell-shocked. This is when Una chooses to almost faint and La’an yells about getting her to sickbay.
IN SICKBAY
Christine is working on Una. Somber moment. They both try to banter a little.
chris is talking to M’Benga. I can’t lose her, too. M’Benga goes her Illyrian physiology is reacting in a way I have never seen, and cannot predict. It’s not a good prognosis. La’an punches a wall and storms out, Chris goes after her. They talk about Una and how much they love and need her.
there’s a ruckus from inside sickbay. La’an and Chris run back in and Una is glowing. It takes a long time, and she passes out. Frozen moment of silence. Christine scans her and says there’s no gorn. They draw some blood and labs. This could mean a cure. La’an and chris are on either side of the bed. La’an is crying. Una is tired.
LATER
Something something captain’s log. Headway against the gorn but they’re still a threat. Admiral April something. Is what I’ve lost worth what we’ve gained or some broody nonsense.
Chris is staring out the window in his quarters. Una comes in. She’s been released from sickbay, after they took a lot of samples. Chris pours her a drink, and they toast Batel, and the conversation gets to he doesn’t know what he’d do without Una. Una hugs him. Chris leans all the way into the hug, and we zoom out to the ship. We think it’s done.
WRONG. We have traumatized La’an so much so let’s check on her. Surprise surprise, she’s having a nightmare. Memories of Una pulling her out of the lifeboat, Una on the gorn ship from this episode, Una dying, everyone dying, there are gorn everywhere- La’an wakes up.
…obviously I am not a screenwriter. This would be fun though. Gets everything I want, anyway.
if anyone has any theories on where they think the first episode will go, I’d love to hear them!!!!

Strange New Worlds Tarsus IV theory that’s probably wrong but eh
I think Sam and Jim’s mom was murdered on Tarsus IV.
Based on the newest episode of SNW, we know George Kirk Sr. is still alive. But neither brother brings up their mom when arguing about how their dad is only proud of Jim. However Jim does bring her up when he was talking about his past. (I do not care for that scene but I’m gonna have to use it for my point) specifically saying during his childhood, his mom, Sam, and himself would follow his dad to each new posting.
Jim was around 13 when Tarsus IV happened. So technically the end of his childhood. Meaning there’s a chance he stopped following his dad’s postings after the massacre. What could cause the family to switch gears except a tragedy?
Imo it also retroactively makes Jim being a witness who saw Kodos commit the crime make more sense.
“Kodos began to separate the colonists. Some would live; be rationed whatever food was left. The remainder, would be immediately put to death. […] Children watching their parents die, whole families destroyed. Over 4,000 people. They died quickly, without pain, but they died.”
With how Spock described the massacre in conscious of the king, it almost sounds like Kodos and his men went door to door murdering the people he deemed less valuable. Given George Kirk Sr.’s status in Starfleet, if Kodos were to deem any or all of George’s family less valuable, he would probably want to be there for the execution. Kodos thought he would go down in history as a hero for this after all. He would want to be there for the “big,” moments.
I’m also betting the relief that arrived was not from the Kelvin, but a different starship. Further reinforcing the conclusion Jim came to about his dad.
“My mom, brother, and I, we spent my whole childhood chasing him from one posting to another. Barely seeing him. When I’d ask why, my mom would always say, he’s helping people who really need it. […] If my dad chose to help total strangers over me, it must… must be important.”

SNW Theory: Una is Why Pike Survives The Accident
Tumblr media
In Ghosts of Illyria when La’an is infected with the Light Virus, she attempts to jump into the warp core and Una stops her. But not before they both recieve severe exposure to radiation, Una’s Illyrian genetic modifications save them both.
When she held onto La’an, it provided her with chimeric antibodies that not only spare them both from the radiation but allowed Chapel & M’Benga to use the antibodies from La’an to derive a cure from her blood.
Whose to say those antibodies aren’t still present in La’an’s body?
In A Quality of Mercy, Admiral Pike says that two cadets die in the accident. Maat Al-Salah, and presumably the girl whose console explodes that Pike fails to drag out in time before becoming grievously wounded and exposed himself.
Those cadets die from that level of exposure, Spock dies from a similar level of exposure in WoK, but Pike doesn’t, why? Unless…
Una (likely out of necessity) does something similar for Chris, protecting him the way she saved La’an. If/when she saves him, similar chimeric antibodies would be in him.
It would not prevent him from being injured or prevent him from being severely irradiated, but he would survive long enough for medics to get to him and prevent it from killing him.
I think one of the many reasons Pike actively chooses to live the difficult life the accident’s aftermath leads to. Other than he’s not one to give into despair, and is acutely aware of his own worth to those who love him. It’s this:
Even if Starfleet medicine can’t do much to help his quality of life, what they learn from his survival will lead to better treatment for Delta radiation survivors like him. If Pike possesses chimeric antibodies from Una that made the difference between life and death for him. That would absolutely support that notion.

People who know Una's secret
-Chirs -M'bega -Chapel -La'an
Chris - would never tell and is blindsided by the arrest. Also no implications were made that he knew and was hiding info as that would likely result in him getting in trouble.
M'bega - while he could have made a medical report about it I highly doubt it. He has/had too many of his own secrets. And again, there's no implications that it was an accidental slip or M'bega would probably get in some sort of trouble. Then again he's at a lower rank in TOS so it's possible. Still unlikely.
Chapel - tattling is so not her vibe. And she moves up not down the ranks and leaking that info would soooo ruin her character for me.
La'an - ticked to find out about the lies. Leaving the Enterprise. Promoted. Doesn't seem all that upset about not being able to contact Una. Never seen in TOS. Known to be a stickler for the rules.
I'm not saying La'an sold out I'm just saying I wouldn't be shocked at the revelation.

Spock's knowledge of musicals come from Amanda, I believe that it was just their thing. Mother and son bonding and a secret from Sarek who beloved that the entire concept of it was illogical.
Spock's knowledge on Pirates and cowboys were purely taught to him by Michael. Michael was told by Sarek to teach Spock about humanity and little miss I've only ever lived on a space station my entire life went, yes these two things are what Spock needs to know about.
Spock was disappointed at the lack of cowboys at the academy.

Okay, so, we know that Spock said his name was unpronounceable, but then we find out it’s just S’chn T’Gai.
The Doctor also claims that their name is unpronounceable, so my theory is that the Doctor and Spock have the exact same name.

My Only Problem with the SNW Musical Episode
...was that Uhura’s big song made me spray tears like Stimpy, and I had to pause to go clean my glasses.

While I liked La'an in Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, I don't really like the retcon of the Eugenics war, but it would have been so funny if they retconned Star Trek's Earth History to have Covid 19 occur in relatively the same time it did for us IRL (like 2019-2023 or whatever). It probably could have tied in the Bell Riots and the Reunification of Ireland as well, since the also occurred in the 2020's.
Although, they probably would have had a "the Romulans engineered the pandemic!" plot which...probably wouldn't have gone over well.

“Spock and Chapel had a little thing but he was much more into it than she was and so he got his heart broken when she left for her job and met someone else and completely lost any feelings he might have had for her in the pain of her singing a sexy little song about how she’s down for a fling but her real love is archeological medicine. She, however, probably never quite got over him because they had no proper closure” sure why not

Spitballing Strange New Worlds s3 episode ideas, Spock edition:
(With Sam Kirk crashing the blog at the end)
Keep in mind I’ve only seen s2.
Assuming Christine is written out of the show for a little bit so the Doctor Korby romance can happen, maybe explain just how Spock was able to know that Rayna was going to die from being overwhelmed with emotions she was just experiencing for the first time in requiem for methuselah? I mean I assumed he was speaking from personal experience when I first saw it, but it could also be him diagnosing the situation based on what he was taught as a Vulcan.
So far strange new worlds (and from what I’ve heard Discovery too) has gone out of its way to show how Spock ended up in the mindset he was in about emotions and stuff. I think it would be cool if Spock either met someone else, or the events of episode 10 rekindle the Spock/Christine romance, Spock feels something entirely new, and then immediately regrets it when Chapel reveals she’s either engaged, in love with Korby, both, or some bad stuff dies down between him and whoever else he meets. This hypothetical relationship with a random alien doesn’t even have to be romantic.
Let’s say Spock gets caught on an alien world, meets a native, is stuck with them for a bit, and then in a life or death situation, the alien chooses to save Spock when we’d know that before meeting Spock, this character wouldn’t have done this, and somehow dies as a result. I’m thinking poison. Which would play into not only Spock’s actions in Requiem for Methuselah, but also Devil in the Dark. Wherein Spock at first wanted to try to reason with the Horta, but the second Jim was in danger he did a 180. It’s not that Spock would be against nonhuman entities learning human emotions. It’s that he would be far more cautious than Jim was.
“The joys of love made her human, and the agonies of love destroyed her.”
And while Spock is solidifying his stance to be more closed off, Other characters, Pike maybe? could finally open up to their friends. Maybe add some character development for Sam to explain why he’s so competitive with Kirk. Make it beyond daddy issues. Maybe make it mommy issues?
Oooo! I’ve suggested before that Jim and Sam’s mom maybe died on Tarsus IV. Maybe the reason Sam didn’t go on the command track like Jim was that becoming a xenoanthropologist would allow him to understand dead alien cultures discovered on various planets the federation may wish to occupy, or know how to communicate with living natives. And this would allow settlers/colonists to be warned about the local widelife like say, an exotic fungus that infects most of the food supply?
I work Tarsus IV into everything.
Since (in this hypothetical plot line) maybe there were native aliens to Tarsus iv, but because no one could communicate with them or even tried, the colonists weren’t able to be warned about the fungus. It would also be cool because of how it would naturally contrast Jim’s reaction to the massacre.
Jim wanted to be there when the disasters happened to save everyone.
Sam wanted to prevent the disasters from happening to save everyone.
Fun to spitball.

Insane The Elysian Kingdom Theory GO!!!!!
I’m about to blow some DS9 fans fuckin minds with a Strange New Worlds Easter egg that my friend found.
So you know that children’s book Dr. M’Benga is reading to Rukiya?
Look at the author
Tumblr media
Take a closer look
Tumblr media
BENNY
RUSSEL
Do you know what that means?!?!?
Tumblr media
HES REAAAAAAL!!! AND HES A HUMAN BEING DAMNIT!
We know Far Beyond The Stars was a vision given to Sisko by the Prophets to motivate him not to resign from his post on DS9. The Prophets don’t process time linearly, the end of the show Sisko becomes the Emissary and has basically joined them. The baseball he left behind being a promise of his return. It’s also established the Prophets have the power to leave and possess humanoids across time and space. Which is how they ensured Sisko would be born at all!
The fact there is a children’s fantasy book, The Elysian Kingdom, written by him, HAS to mean Benny Russel was a real person and not some metaphorical human the Prophets projected Sisko onto to prove a point.
Would that mean if he is somehow Sisko/The Emissary himself OR was possessed by The Prophets the same way Sisko’s mother was (and is maybe perhaps a direct ancestor of Sisko). That this is how he had visions of DS9 in the first place?
What if the “entity” M’benga is referencing in the teaser is tied to Russel somehow and they just don’t know it yet because Benjamin Sisko hasn’t even been born and I don’t think Starfleet has even discovered Bajor yet!
WHAT IF THE ENTITY
IS THE EMISSARY 🤯

i love how Blunt TOS is with its editing actually. i Love that whenever the show wants to express that Something Is Wrong it will use an obnoxious scary sound effect and scary lighting And scary music And hamfisted acting to let you know that Something Is Wrong. no ambiguity. autism.tv — beautiful <3

instead of writing last night I tried to figure out what key all the songs in subspace rhapsody are
status report: starts in a minor, then b minor(or d major) for ortegas then a major as una starts to sing thru the end of the song. la'an's got some funky Ebdim chords in there which I think is more of a flavor thing because the key seems to still be a major.
connect to your truth: c major
how would that feel: b minor key changes to a major
private conversation: a minor melodic
keeping secrets: a major
im ready: f major
im the x: f# minor(very fun contrasted to i'm ready)
keep us connected: b minor melodic but this one shifts into d major(very beautifully i might add)(ik b minor and d major have the same notes but you can *tell* that theres a change)
we are one: g major then d major (k-pop interlude is Bbmajor) then stays in d major the rest of the song
*disclaimer: it's been years since i properly studied music theory so i might be wrong
