i havent fully formulated my thoughts on this but i think part of the issue with the last straw that leaves so many people frustrated (beside the obvious) is that blowing up the chantry is such a drastic act that its impossible to realistically treat the situation with any real nuance within the scope of the game. while the players are able to step away and recognise the reasons and lead up to it, its nearly impossible for this type of discussion to happen in da2 because it would be weird if the characters reacted to a building getting blown up and all the chaos that follows with anything other than shock and horror

#theres a reason i think that the only really 'positive' reaction from a companion is merrill saying 'he should live to make sure this works'#so everything about the last straw gets skewed in a very negative lens because how else is anyone meant to process this!#this is specifically da2 related da:i could definitely use the time passed to discuss everything in a better way #and this is specifically about the chantry explosion as a narrative device that corners the writers into a specific path #whereas if it had been anders idk assassinating elthina or something it would have been very different #text
