Right wingers being obsessed with the matrix isn't embarrassing because it was made by trans women, it's embarrassing because the matrix is a deeply silly movie. I feel like this is a point that's gotten lost over the years. the matrix is goofy as all get out and it's very funny that so many people have based their deranged quasifacist ideology on a movie where lawrence fishburn teaches keaunu reeves to fly

#to be clear i like the matrix #i just dont think its terribly deep #i think its very good at being what it is #i also think its a feature and not a bug that you can sort of slot any ideology you want into the matrix #the matrix is pretty thematically surface level imo #the message is basically 'dont trust the system'#which idk. maybe read more left leaning in the late 90s #but its so vague you can make 'the system' be whatever you want it to be ykwim #so i dont think ppl who use matrix imagery for right wing shit are missing the point #i think they're just idiots who have never engaged with any genuinely challenging art #anyway sometimes i like to imagine a world where some other vapid 90s popcorn flick caught on with that crowd #what if they were all obsessed with armageddon or lethal weapon 3 or some shit
