I think part of the reason the Hughes/Carson dynamic is so great is that Mrs Hughes possesses about 99% of their collective brain cells 😭
#no offence to him but..oh my god <3#he is not the sharpest tool in the shed#and it balances them out since he does have more power ranking higher and all (also being a man in that society)#together they just fit because (as friends more although their romance was cute but I prefer them as platonic) but like#they fit because if u think about it Mrs hughes is the only person he has a relationship with that is both close and healthy/equal#he’s either not close with ppl (the staff below him) or not balanced in a healthy way (the upper class)#but with Mrs hughes they can both just be normal human beings and it’s actually so important#and I love that it’s not necessarily the same for them both because Mrs Hughes has Mrs Patmore too#and probably others as well since she is down to earth enough to form more normal helathy relationships with ppl#anyway#i love them both DEARLY#so she really has a healthy balanced attitude abo it things and it’s like exactly what he needs - both putting in his place and reminding hi#-him of his humanity#Downton abbey
