Today I completed the install of a pair of rigid 100w solar panels on the motorhome. Coachman emailed the roof plans to help locate the aluminum cross beams for securing with screws and covering with lap sealant. Four of our flexible panels failed and one almost completely flew off as we were driving down the road. They were abused by several hail storms and southern heat. The remaining four flexible panels are three years old and performing well. My advice would be to skip permanently installing flexible panels and drill, screw, and seal solid panels to the roof.

I experimented a little with the panels set up on the ground with a separate controller. My gut feeling is that a pair of panels on the ground, moved 3 or 4 times a day to face the sun, performed about the same as 4 mounted flat on the roof. I mounted these with adjustable tilt frames and we have another pair that are hinged together to make a portable briefcase.
