FICTIONAL CHARACTER ASK: JANICE
Asked by @princesssarisa
@softlytowardthesun @themousefromfantasyland @moonbeamelf @fragglesesamemuppetz2 @angelixgutz @the-blue-fairie @thealmightyemprex @amalthea9
Favorite Thing About Them: She is a genuinelly sensitive, sweet, kind and empathetic person who has the ability to easily make friends and a competent performer in the fields of music and acting who greatly values team work rather than competing for attention with her colleagues.
Least Favorite Thing About Them: How the writers of the 2015 ABC sitcom the muppets. portrayed Janice as so over the top ditzy that she acted passive and with no opinions or desires of her own while the male characters Sam the Eagle, Floyd Pepper and Dr Teeth treated her as an object of dispute wich they were entitled to have as a romantic partner.
Three Things I Have In Common With Them:
* I have a tambourine;
* I love colorfull clothes made of light fabric;
* I love rock and roll music;
Three Things I Don’t Have In Common With Them:
* I’m not a member of a band;
* I’m not as chill as she is;
* I don’t have long blonde hair;
Favorite Line:
From the movie The Great Muppet Caper:
“…and I said, ‘Look mother, it’s my life o-kay? And if I want to live on a beach and walk around naked, I–”
From the movie The Muppets Take Manhattan:
"So I told him 'Look, buddy, I don't take my clothes off for anybody, even if it is artistic’”
From the comic Muppet King Arthur, where she played the humourous and witty Lady of the Lake:
“Call me Janice. That was my name before I, like, became one with nature”.
“Rock never hurt anyone. Well, except for scissors. Poor scissors”.
From the comic Muppet Robin Hood, where she plays the healer Willa Scarlet (a genderbent Will Scarlet):
“Oh yeah, like, going back to nature is sooo real, man, fer sure. You’ll like dig it, totally! These trees can teach us lessons, man”.
From the comic Muppet Peter Pan, where she played the role of Wendy Darling:
“Like, I’m detecting some rilly unresolved anger issues, fer sure”...
“A nice fruit salad is very cleansing for the system”.
“It never hurts to try to be, like, totally diplomatic and make friends!”
“I’m ready to grow up, now. Yeah, I even know what I want to do when I grow up! I wanna Rock and Roll!”
“Hey, dad, at least it’s, like, totally american... fer sure!”
From the comic Muppet Snow White, where she played the dwarf Happy:
“You’re like my favorite fairytale character. Next to Wendy from Muppet Peter  Pan”.
brOTP: Rowlf the Dog, Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal, Bean Bunny, Scooter, Skeeter, Miss Piggy, Annie Sue Pig, Spamela Hamderson, Zondra, Darci, Charlie (Solid Foam's Drummer), Dolores (Trumpet Girl), Wanda.
OTP: Skeeter, Zoot, Floyd Pepper.
nOTP: Dr Teeth, Lips, Sam the Eagle.
Random Headcanon: She was born in San Francisco, and in one side of her family she has lebanese heritage, wich is aparent in her lips, eyes and olive skin tone, while on the other side she has german-irish heritage, wich is aparent in her blonde hair.
Unpopular Opinion: Her toddler design with open eyes and already big lips in 1984's Muppet Babies looks pretty unsetling. The illustrations for the Muppet Kids books reached a better natural look for a young Janice, with more subtle lipstick around her lips and her characteristic closed eyes.

solid foam headcanons time (moreso abt the band as a whole)
- digit doesn’t really have the same vocal range as his bandmates when it comes to singing, which is why they usually don’t give him long solos. if he has to sing, they usually try to keep it brief/fast-paced to cover his lack of range.
- flash’s mumbling is partially because it’s just how he talks, but also because he’s trying to conserve his voice for performances (can’t risk wearing his voice out before something like his section in “the music just keeps on rolling along”, after all). he learned this from his vocal coach, but admittedly he might be a little overzealous about preserving his voice
- i’m naming the drummer “frankie” (somewhat after her puppeteer, but mostly so i can stop just calling her “the drummer). there’s been some speculation that she’s related to zondra, but no one’s been bold enough to ask her about it. after all, things are probably pretty tense between them (frankie working with the muppets and zondra working with gorilla television and all), and they might not even be related; sometimes muppets just look really similar and have no familial ties
- the reason clifford’s pretty chill in the jhh and decided less chill in muppets tonight is because he’s in his element in the jhh; he’s content to help out and provide his input, but he doesn’t necessarily consider himself a leader. i don’t consider his change in characterization in muppets tonight a complete 180, i’d say it’s a guy who never expected (or really wanted) a leadership position having that foisted on him and reacting accordingly.
- the band formed sometime before the jhh took place, having known each other as friends/friends of friends in college. digit was a comparatively late addition, having been hired as muppetelevision’s tech director first and joining the band as their keyboardist later. beard still talks about how lucky of a coincidence that was.
- they eventually drifted apart in the 90s, a combination of personal life factors, kermit rejoining the old guard, and electric mayhem having a resurgence in popularity with audiences. they’re still friends, they just haven’t found the time to play together in a while.

Drum Set That Has Been Used. How Do You Pick The Best One?
1.       Shell
Extensive wood condition information on toms, such as bearing edge, thickness, and whether or not they are fractured. This is critical since it is intimately linked to sound quality and tone. The same can be said for an iron shell.
 2. Hardware
Examine the boom, straight, and snare stands, as well as the rubber feet, wing bell, tripod brace, wing nut, cymbal filters, foam, and memory lock. This type of hardware is usually overlooked because most people are only concerned with looks and sound. Though the stability of the drum will be highly influenced by this hardware.
Tension Rods are a type of rod that is used to hold things together.
Check to see if the tension rods are still in good working order. Don't be alarmed if the condition is a little rusted; it's pretty simple to fix. Before cleaning, it should be self-cleaned with a brush and then soaked in gasoline.
 4. Hoops / Rings
Examine the ring's or hoops' surface. Is it a flat surface? Because it will make a tom sound overtone / flanging if it is not flat. When we play the drums, we can sense it.
 5. Mount Bracket
The tom and bass drums are connected by a bracket. Examine the bolt to see if the wing hat is still in excellent shape.
 6. Lugs
One by one, inspect the condition of the lugs. The lugs of an ancient drum usually have cracks in them.
Check with the state that is in a tense situation. Is Tom still drifting from his position or is he solid? Less stable conditions will undoubtedly influence a drummer's comfort when performing the drum kit.
 8. Drummer
On the toms, floor, snare, and bass drum, check the skin / drum head. Examine the surface of the snare bed, as well as the strainer on / off, to see if everything is still working properly. The state of the drum set is determined by the drum head. Because this has a significant impact on the drum's sound.
Some of the suggestions above may be helpful in determining how to select a used drum set. At the very least, you'll avoid some common blunders when purchasing a used drum kit. Have fun shopping!

How to choose the right board to Boogie!
Author:  Beau Badinski
Tom Moray, the inventor of the Boogie board was never a big fan of the name bodyboarding.  The dude was a big jazz fan and a drummer— instead, he preferred and named it a boogie board, because of course, he wanted a board to boogie on the waves with.
Choosing a board on which to boogie through the barrels of life isn’t the easiest thing to do. They largely all look the same or pretty similar, but there are many differences, from rails to tails to build shapes and materials. Many things determine how the board will dance on the water.
Let’s check out the main things to look for in a Boogie and do Tom proud!
The Size
First of all, no matter what they tell you, size does matter (when it comes to choosing a bodyboard, of course). It all comes down to your height and body weight. You need enough foam underneath you to shred the gnar and move fast, but not too much as to not be able to throw the thing around and get some sweet air.
As a rough guide and rule of thumb, you’ll want a board that comes up to your belly button. But that isn’t really a measurement, and it certainly isn’t precise, so it’s best to use this chard. Get weighed and get measured before choosing your board so you can be as exact as possible.
Board Length(inches), Rider Height (cm), Rider Weight (cm)
40, 156-167, 42-72
40.5, 158-170, 50-80
41, 160-173, 55-85
41.4, 165-179, 60-90
42, 168-183, 65-95
42.5, 170-187, 70-100
43, 172-190, 70-105
43.5, 175-190, 75-130
44, 175-195, 75-130
45, 185-200, 80-135
46, 190-220, 85-145
The Material
The core of a bodyboard is equal to the foam in a surfboard. It’s the soul and shape of the board. It ultimately decides the weight of the board and the way the board feels to ride, how fast it’ll move in the water and how stiff or flexible it is.
The core is usually made up of one of three materials.
EPS- Extruded Polystyrene
EPS is by far the weakest material for bodyboards, and is generally what the cheapest of boards are made of. Remember those Looney Tunes space jam boogie boards you used to find in Target, many years ago? Those are usually made of EPS, and could be snapped by just looking at them! These boards are stiff, light weight and very buoyant, making them good for riding white water into the shore, but not for much else.
PP- Polypropylene
PP boards are the perfect compromise between weight and strength. They keep their shape really well, meaning they should last longer that their EPS and PE brothers. It may be surprising, but not all bodyboard core material is water resistant—luckily Polypropylene is.
PE- Polyethylene
Up until fairly recently, PE cores were the norm in most bodyboards. PE was once considered the stronger of the two materials, but changes to the way it’s made means this is now no longer the case.  PE boards are generally good for low temperature waters, and are still fairly common in places like the UK. The plus side of PE, is in its flexibility, which improves board control. This material has multiple downsides though; it has been found to be pretty bad for the environment and it is significantly heavier than PP boards.
Some bodyboard manufacturers have started mixing construction materials, to create hybrid boards. They may have the main body of the board made of PP, but the rails made of PE. This will create a strong board with more flexible rails for improved and tighter turning.
The Nose
The nose of your board is important to how you ride. If you dig riding drop-knee, you’ll want to go for a less wide nose. This will give you more control to cut through the water. If you go more for prone riding (on your stomach), you’ll want a wider nose with plenty of room to hold on.
The raised bumps on the nose of the board are known as ‘nose bulbs’, which are there to increase hand control.
The Tail
Crescent tail
Crescent tails boards are shaped like a wide U, or…a crescent! These bad boys are the more popular of the two tail shapes. Crescent tails allow more of your body to contact the water’s surface, which in turn will provide the rider with more control. They also keep the body in position, compared to the bat tail, and are more comfortable to paddle with.
Bat tails
Bat tail boards are generally not recommended for beginner shredders, because they are a fair bit harder to control. They pick up more speed due to less of the body touching the water. They tend to ride a little looser than crescent tails and are quite good on smaller waves. Some riders find them uncomfortable.
Channels
Channels are the grooved sections on the bottom of some boards. They almost act as fins do on a surfboard. They work by sort of ‘gripping’ onto the wave, making turns more solid and makes it easier to stick to a solid line.
The Rails
When it comes to rails, there are generally two different kinds. 60:40 and 50:50. The numbers refer to the percentage of top rail (the part which is closer to the deck), to bottom rail (the part which is in direct contact with the water). A 60:40 rail means 60 percent is bottom rail, and 40 percent is top rail. 60:40 rails are by far the more common of the two, and are most riders top choice. They provide stability and control, whereas the 50:50 rails provides more speed and maneuverability.
The Stringer
Just like surfboards, bodyboards also have a stringer. It essentially serves the same purpose, which is to provide strength and flexibility to the board, and help it keep its shape. Unlike the stringers in surfboards though, the stringer of a bodyboard is a usually a replaceable carbon fiber or fiberglass tube running from the tail of the board. The stringer can add flexibility or rigidity to your board, depending on which one you choose.
So there you have it. A few things to keep in mind when getting into the Boogie. Choose your board and just get out there and be stoked on the ocean. Ride the waves on absolutely anything you can (but the right board helps). Stay salty and enjoy the ride!

Likely concepts of the Gen-8 Pokémon
-= Gigantamax Butterfree =- - Some believe that it’s inspired by the kaiju Mothra, but this may be a stretch.
-= Gigantamax Pikachu =- - Many will say that this is a callback to Pikachu’s old chubby design. Well...Pikachu’s modern design hasn’t really made it slimmer, so much as its neck is defined (in the front, at least). But this Pikachu is definitely a chubby boy/gal.
-= Gigantamax Meowth =- - This goes to town with the old “Longcat“ meme. That’s obvious enough. - Its head charm, though, changes from a general Koban into an Ōban, which in Tokugawa currency is worth ten Koban. It even bears a kanji "大", which can mean “large“.
-= Gigantamax Gengar =- - The main feature is that it’s rising out of the shadows, its mouth VERY wide open with rings lining the inside. This may likely be a reference to a Hellmouth, an entrance to Hell usually depicted as a giant monster’s gaping mouth. Hellmouths were often featured in art done as early as the Anglo-Saxon era.
-= Gigantamax Kingler =- - Its limbs' new appearance make it look even more like a red king crab. The “beard“ of mouth foam gives it an even “kinglier“ look.
-= Gigantamax Lapras =- - Its shell is bigger and lined with grooves. This could be inspired by a phonograph cylinder, the earliest commercially-available sound recording medium. Sounds were recorded into these cylinders in similar grooves.
-= Gigantamax Snorlax =- - It looks almost exactly like a simple hill. The parts on its belly not covered in grass could be mistaken for a plain dirt path.
-= Gigantamax Garbodor =- - Toxin formations resembling old toys appear in its body. This gives it quite a genuine garbage dump look.
-= Galarian Meowth & Perrserker =- - (purr + berserker) - Short-tailed cats - possibly the Manx cat, which was first found in the Isle of Man. - The cartoonish stereotype of Viking warriors, with horned helmets. - Norse berserkers were claimed to be impervious to swords, which may be why these are Steel-type.
-= Galarian Ponyta & Galarian Rapidash =- - Unicorns. Closer to modern interpretations of unicorns, especially from franchises like My Little Pony.
-= Galarian Farfetch’d & Sirfetch’d =- - (sir + Farfetch’d) - Mainly the Lancelot leek, which is generally bigger and thicker than the usual leek. This may also take the “Lancelot“ part a bit further by making this into a knight of sorts.
-= Galarian Weezing =- - Mainly inspired by the Industrial Revolution, which was also prevalent in the United Kingdom. This is prominently featured in the tall smokestacks (though these spew purified air instead of smoke). - The appearance also takes after a classic image of British gentlemen - top hats, bushy eyebrows, trim goatees, and handlebar mustaches.
-= Galarian Mr. Mime & Mr. Rime =- - (Mr. Mime + rime (a type of frost)) - Tap dancing - possibly Broadway tap, which has roots in English theater. It could be Ice-type simply to make its feet hard enough to produce the tapping sounds, or it could be a reference to its ability to form invisible solid barriers. - Mr. Rime is associated with comedians - most closely Charlie Chaplin, who was considered one of the greatest icons of the history of film. It bears the classic Chaplin image with a bowler hat, mustache, and cane.
-= Galarian Corsola & Cursola =- - (curse + Corsola) - Bleached coral - essentially what remains of coral that is rendered dead. One of the usual causes is pollution from factories.
-= Galarian Zigzagoon, Galarian Linoone, & Obstagoon =- - (obstacle + goon/Zigzagoon) - Glam rock or punk rock styles, which have been popular in the UK. Their white/black appearance with waggling tongues may be a nod to KISS, but that is an American band with some UK rock inspirations. - Also inspired by the coloration of European badgers, which is easiest to see on Linoone and Obstagoon.
-= Galarian Darumaka & Galarian Darmanitan =- - Possibly abominable snowmen, AKA yetis, which are actually associated with Himalayan countries like India. Then again, there was a time when Britain owned Asian countries like India. - Actually, Galarian Darmanitan’s head-snowball and snow-beard give it the appearance of a turban-wearing Indian sage. - Galarian Darmanitan’s Zen Mode ironically reshapes it into an angry beast, with its head-snowball resembling the head of a snowman (with a flare in place of the carrot nose).
-= Galarian Yamask & Runerigus =- - (rune + Cofagrigus) - Inspired by Nordic runestones, which have also been found across the United Kingdom and other western European countries. - Quite a lot of these runestones were bordered by some sort of serpent, which serves as the design for Runerigus.
-= Galarian Stunfisk =- - Based on a mantrap, a spring-locked device that clamps one with jagged metal teeth. In England, ever since 1827, these are only legal inside houses at nighttime. - Most interestingly, this Stunfisk’s mouth is red and white - much like a Poké Ball. I haven’t run into one yet myself, but this could make it an “item mimic“ Pokémon, much like Voltorb and Foongus.
-= Grookey, Thwackey, & Rillaboom =- - (groove + monkey) - (thwack + monkey) - (gorilla + boom) - All three stages are associated with drumming. Grookey has a single stick, Thwackey wields two sticks, and Rillaboom adds a stump drum. This may be related to how primates often use things like sticks as tools. - Grookey is much like small monkeys, like squirrel monkeys and marmosets. - Thwackey’s body shape takes more after chimpanzees or short-tailed primates. - Rillaboom is clearly a gorilla, with a bush and vines acting as a wild hairstyle often associated with rock band drummers.
-= Scorbunny, Raboot, & Cinderace =- - (scorch/score + bunny) - (rabbit + boot) - (cinder + ace) - These are all rabbits, of course. - Scorbunny’s facial mark is akin to the nose bandage associated with the rambunctious child archetype. - Raboot’s body is covered in a fur much like a tracksuit, and its head mark resembles a headband. It even uses the fluff on its belly like jacket pockets for its hands. Its habit of juggling things on its feet is similar to playing with a foot bag (AKA a hacky-sack). - Cinderace is a straight-up association football player (AKA football or soccer to everybody). It even has a unique Hidden Ability (Libero) and two signature moves (Pyro Ball and Court Change) related to football/soccer.
-= Sobble, Drizzile, & Inteleon =- - (sob + dribble) - (drizzle + reptile) - (intelligence + chameleon) - Chameleons. Ones associated with water, using the power of water to appear invisible. - While Sobble is a crybaby, Drizzile is comparatively cold-mooded. Drizzile’s habit of fending off others (by laying traps) and the way its fin hangs over its face may be based on the emo archetype, or even of a troublemaking delinquent. - Inteleon is inspired by spies - namely ones depicted in action movies. This could be based on how a “chameleon“ person is adaptable to many guises. Its slender build is also similar to a basilisk, a lizard that can run on water. The membrane on its back, used for gliding, it similar to the flying lizard. - Inteleon is said to have a nictitating membrane - common among reptiles - to discern enemies’ weak points. It also fires water shots from its fingertips at Mach 3 - a typical speed for bullets fired by rifles. So it could possibly take inspiration from snipers as well.
-= Skwovet & Greedent =- - (squirrel + covet) - (greed + rodent) - They are based on squirrels - most likely the eastern grey squirrel and the red squirrel. They’re also based on the hoarding instinct of squirrels, though to a gluttonous degree.
-= Rookidee, Corvisquire, & Corviknight =- - (rookie + chickadee) - (corvid + squire) - (corvid + knight) - Rookidee is based on a Eurasian blue tit. Tits like this are known as chickadees in North America. - Corvisquire and Corviknight are based on ravens and eastern jackdaws, as well as squires and knights.
-= Blipbug, Dottler, & Orbeetle =- - (blip (radar) + bug) - (dot + Doppler radar) - (orb + beetle + orbital) - The line is mainly based on ladybugs, or lady beetles. They all also have themes of radar or related sensory mechanisms, which is connected to their psychic powers. - Dottler is called the Radome Pokémon. A radome is a shell used to cover and protect a radar device, much like how Dottler is protected by its dome-like shell. - Orbeetle may be associated with sensory devices in space, like satellites. It could also be related to flying saucers - this is especially prominent in its Gigantamax form, which even has a tractor beam shining down from its back.
-= Nickit & Thievul =- - (knick + kit) - (thief/thieving + vulpine) - Based on red foxes, but also on thieves. - Nickit’s face is covered in black and white markings, almost resembling an ornate Japanese fox mask. Its tail is brush-like, specifically to sweep away its own footprints. - Thievul’s eyes are lined with black fur flaring out to the sides like a domino mask, its leg fur resembles boots, and its whiskers look like a small fancy mustache. This could give it an appearance akin to Zorro, a famous vigilante and phantom thief in Spanish California (created by American pulp fiction writer Johnston McCulley). As a bonus, “zorro“ is Spanish for “fox“. - ...Of course, Nickit and Thievul could also have roots in Reynard the Fox, a popular trickster figure in medieval European folktales.
-= Gossifleur & Eldegoss =- - (Gossypium + fleur (FR: flower)) - (elder + Gossypium) - Both are based on the Gossypium flower of cotton plants. Eldegoss in particular looks much like a little old lady in a flower “shawl“. - Their presence in Galar may be for the industrial aspect - as the cotton industry was quite big in Britain around the era of World War I. However, this industry did decline hard, starting when Japan introduced its 24-hour cotton production method.
-= Wooloo & Dubwool =- - (wool) - (double + wool) - Wooloo is...simply a white-fleeced sheep. - Dubwool, however, seems to take after the Jacob sheep, which tends to have patchy white and black wool, and sometimes four horns.
-= Chewtle & Drednaw =- - (chew + turtle) - (dreadnought + gnaw) - Based on alligator snapping turtles. Their craggy appearance may be the reason that Drednaw was made Rock-type. - Drednaw becomes bipedal in its Gigantamax form. Many believe that it’s a nod to the kaiju Gamera.
-= Yamper & Boltund =- - (yapper + amp) - (bolt + hund/hound) - Yamper is based on the Welsh corgi, a breed popular for its cute-looking build. - Boltund may be based on a greyhound - possibly the stockier Italian greyhound. Whatever the case, it’s most certainly some kind of hound, AKA hunting dog - its Dex entries back this up by identifying it as the enemy of Thievul. Hounds have often been used in the UK region to hunt foxes.
-= Rolycoly, Carkol, & Coalossal =- - (roly-poly + coal) - (car + coal/charcoal) - (coal + colossal) - All three of these are based on coal, a high-carbon mineral that can be used as fuel for heat. - Rolycoly’s build has a single wheel and a lit-up red eye, resembling a small moped. - Carkol’s build is much like a mine cart, with a pile of generated coal heating up in its back. - Coalossal is more like a golem (an automaton made of clay or stone) with a giant pile of coal in its back. Gigantamax Coalossal reshapes its body with a constant glow within, more resembling a coal furnace.
-= Applin, Flapple, & Appletun =- - (apple + in) - (flap + apple) - (apple + turnover/ton) - Applin is essentially a worm in an apple - though in this case, it means “worm“ as “wyrm“, a draconic serpent. - Flapple is very visibly a worm, but with apple pieces serving as wings, it’s more closely a wyvern (a draconic creature with two wings and no forelegs). - Appletun is more of a drake (a wingless dragon), with a back resembling an apple pie. - Interestingly, the Gigantamax forms of Flapple and Appletun both look like a giant Applin coming out of a nectar-spewing apple. The apple itself could also be interpreted as a caramel or candied apple.
-= Silicobra & Sandaconda =- - (silicon + cobra) - (sand + anaconda) - They are based on snakes - desert-dwelling snakes, most likely. - Silicobra is, of course, a small cobra, and Sandaconda is clearly an anaconda, the largest python in the world. - Sandaconda’s prominent nostrils, however, may bear some closeness to the Eastern hog-nosed snake, which also puffs itself up to “hiss“. This could relate to Sandaconda’s ability to fill its body with sand. - The diamond-like markings on Sandaconda’s body may be akin to snakes like the Eastern diamondback rattlesnake. - In Gigantamax form, Sandaconda stands on its tail. Its coiled body and swirling sand sac give it the appearance of a dust devil (a tornado that picks up a lot of dust and sand).
-= Cramorant =- - (cram + cormorant) - A cormorant, duh. It’s likely based on the great cormorant, which is common among the British Isles. - Its Gulp Missile Ability tends to get Pokémon like Arrokuda or Pikachu stuck in its mouth. This could be based on the practice of cormorant fishing - a special snare is tied around the base of the cormorant’s throat, so fairly big fish will instead get caught in its throat.
-= Arrokuda & Barraskewda =- - (arrow + barracuda) - (barracuda + skew) - These are...of course, barracudas - a slender fish that aggressively charges at anything that could be perceived as either prey or a threat. Their jaws are extremely strong, though Arrokuda and Barraskewda are more into ramming and spearing into their foes. - Arrokuda’s body looks a lot like a throwing dart - the kind used on dartboards. - Barraskewda more resembles a torpedo, especially with its spinning propeller-like tail fins.
-= Toxel & Toxtricity =- - (toxic + electric) - (toxic + electricity) - Possibly based on salamanders - maybe the Italian crested newt, which has adapted to live in polluted ponds. - Toxtricity’s spiky electric mane and pickup-like bumps on its underbelly are likely based on electric guitars, which are commonly used in rock music. - Actually, the Amped-Up form and Low-Key forms have different formations with their horns and pickups. Amped-Up has six pickups, making it more like the bolder electric guitar. Low-Key, meanwhile, has four, like the fittingly subdued bass guitar. - In Gigantamax, its tail spikes out into an antenna-like shape. It can also generate a guitar-like weapon out of pure electricity.
-= Sizzlipede & Centiskorch =- - (sizzling + millipede/centipede) - (centipede + scorch) - Based on centipedes. Of course. - Interestingly, Centiskorch’s tail has fire telsons similar to the “eyebrows“ and “whiskers“ on its face. It’s quite common for centipedes to have a tail end that looks similar to its head. - For most attacks in its Gigantamax form, Centiskorch repositions its body into a vertical squiggle, much like the fluorescent tubes in many heaters.
-= Clobbopus & Grapploct =- - (clobber + octopus) - (grapple + octopus + locked) - These are octopi, with themes of clubbing and jiujitsu. - Clobbopus is difficult to find a matching specific octopus, but it does sort of resemble the short-tentacled dumbo octopus. - No specific octopus has been nailed down for Grapploct, either. However, it seems to wrap one tentacle around its “waist“ like a champion’s belt. - The jiujitsu concept is actually apt for Grapploct, as its signature move Octolock not only keeps the target in the field, but it constantly reduces its defenses. Brazilian jiujitsu in particular focuses greatly on forcing even tougher opponents into submission.
-= Sinistea & Polteageist =- - (sinister + tea) - (poltergeist + tea) - Based on the concept of ghosts like poltergeists possessing objects in households, like tableware - teacups and teapots in this case. - Their true bodies are made of black tea, a kind of tea that keeps for years and years. Black tea is also particularly strong in flavor. - Interestingly, most Sinistea and Polteageist inhabit forgeries of antique teacups/teapots (ones in the genuine articles are very rare). This could be a nod to the fact that many forgeries of classical teaware exist to this day.
-= Hatenna, Hattrem, & Hatterene =- - (hat + antenna) - (hatter + tremble) - (hatter + serene) - These Psychic-type Pokémon don’t react well to loudness or strong emotion. It’s very likely that they’re themed after seclusive witches. - Hatenna’s protrustion resembles a party hat or a nightcap. - Hattrem’s “hat“ looks even more like a witch’s hat. Hatterene’s, moreso. - Gigantamax Hatterene seems to show its true body within its “hair“.
-= Impidimp, Morgrem, & Grimmsnarl =- - (impudent + imp) - (morbid + gremlin) - (grim/Brothers Grimm + snarl) - Imps, gremlins, goblins, ogres, trolls - these take after quite a lot of demonic creatures especially prominent in Europeon folklore.
-= Milcery & Alcremie =- - (milk + sorcery) - (alchemy + créme/creamy) - Milcery takes after a small ball of milk or cream. Its head frays into a splash effect. - Alcremie is based on cream - notably whipped cream. This is fitting, as you must spin to make Milcery evolve into Alcremie. - There are several flavors that Alcremie can take on, depending on how and when you do the evolving spin - Vanilla, Ruby, Matcha, Mint, Lemon, Salted, Ruby Swirl, Caramel Swirl, and Rainbow Swirl. - The Ruby Cream variety may be based on ruby chocolate, which has a sweet and tart taste (just as Ruby Cream Alcremie’s entry describes it as sweet and tart). - While matcha (a ground powder from green tea leaves) is traditionally used for tea, there’s been a rise of other uses for it, especially in sweets. - There are also seven different Sweets that are needed to evolve Milcery. This Sweet will become the Alcremie’s head decorations. There are Strawberry Sweets (red), Berry Sweets (blue), Love Sweets (pink), Star Sweets (yellow), Clover Sweets (green), Flower Sweets (orange), and Ribbon Sweets (purple). While these aren’t recorded into the Pokédex with flavors, this can still technically yield 63 different kinds of Alcremie. - Gigantamax Alcremie resembles a tall layer cake. All seven Sweets appear on its body.
-= Falinks =- - (phalanx + links) - These are essentially a small group of Ancient Greek soldiers, which have shield-like arms and spear-like horns - shields and spears are often key elements in a hoplite phalanx formation. The shields would be held out to brace against any attacks while the spears are held overhead.
-= Pincurchin =- - (pincushion + urchin) - It’s a sea urchin. - Apparently, its spines contain a lot of electricity, even when detached. This could be a nod to how some sea urchins have venom in their spines.
-= Snom & Frosmoth =- - (snow + nom) - (frost + moth) - Snom looks like a jewel caterpillar, whose body is covered in similar translucent bumps. - Frosmoth looks a lot like many white moths - notably the white slant-line moth and the Venezuelan poodle moth.
-= Stonjourner =- - (stone + sojourner) - Clearly based on one of the structures of Stonehenge, a prehistoric monument near Wiltshire, England. This ring of structures is surrounded with mystery even to this day.
-= Eiscue =- - (ice cube) - Eiscue is a penguin - possibly akin to the Adélie penguin, given its solid-colored head.
-= Indeedee =- - (indeed) - This was tricky, but they seem to be themed after servants of large households - male Indeedee based on butlers and valets, and female Indeedee based on maids and nannies. The female Indeedee’s white body markings even resemble a maid’s apron.
-= Morpeko =- - (morumato (guinea pig) + harapeko (JP: hungry)) - A Pikachu-related Pokémon based on a guinea pig, which can tend to be moody when they’re hungry.
-= Cufant + Copperajah =- - (cute/Cu (periodic symbol for Copper) + elephant) - (copper + maharaja) - Based on Indian elephants, with copper hides. Copper has been mined in India for over 2000 years. - With copper-mining in mind, Cufant and Copperajah seem to have excavating implements on their trunks. While Cufant has a small spoon-like scoop, Copperajah’s trunk has teeth much like on a shovel truck. - When copper rusts, it takes on a turquoise color. This is the best answer on Copperajah’s color. - Gigantamax Copperajah strangely looks like a big bipedal slab...? If anyone can tell me what this could be based on, please tell me.
-= Dracozolt, Arctozolt, Dracovish, & Arctovish =- - (draco- + jolt) - (arctic + jolt) - (draco- + fish) - (arctic + fish) - The fossil Pokémon of this generation are...a little unorthodox. For one thing, they’re mismatched chimerae - the heads and bodies never match up. But there’s actually a story behind that. The first dinosaur bones to be officially classified were in the UK. Unfortunately, these bones were initially put together wrong - on the wrong species, and even in the wrong places. - ...Worse, some purposefully mix-and-matched bones to claim that they discovered some fantastical new species. This may explain a few things about Cara Liss, the person "resurrecting” these hodgepodges... - As for what dinosaurs each part was... - The “Draco“ part is likely the rear end of some stegosaurus-like specie. - The “Arcto“ part might be an Acrophoca, a prehistoric ancestor to seals. - The “Zolt“ part may be the head of some prehistoric bird or velociraptor. - The “Vish“ part is most certainly the Dunkleosteus, a jagged-mouthed fish.
-= Duraludon =- - (duralumin + -don (suffix used for dinosaurs)) - While likely not based on any real creature, its body is likely based on duralumin, an aluminum-copper alloy that’s both lightweight and strong. - Of course, the main site comments that it has a rivalry with Tyranitar, which may draw a parallel between the kaiju Godzilla and the robotic counterpart, Mechagodzilla. - Its Gigantamax form greatly resembles a skyscraper - most possibly the Shard, the tallest building in the UK.
-= Dreepy, Drakloak, & Dragapult =- - (dragon + creepy) - (drake + cloak) - (dragon + catapult) - Based on the boomerang salamander, an extinct amphibian with a notable crescent-shaped skull. - Drakloak and Dragapult notably have their heads resembling the B-2 Spirit, AKA the Stealth Bomber. Drakloak has a Dreepy on its back, supposedly acting as a pilot. Dragapult has two Dreepy which act as “missiles“ from Dragapult’s head cannons.
-= Zacian & Zamazenta =- - (the cyan) - (the magenta) - Wolves. ‘Nuff said. - ...Well, okay, there’s more. Zacian and Zamazenta, at base, look like old battle-worn wolves, but they have the power to draw in metal particles to form their armor and weapons (their Crowned Sword and Crowned Shield forms). - With its sword, Zacian is believed to be able to cut through anything. Zamazenta’s shield-like mane is believed to repel any attack. This could literally make them an unstoppable force and an immovable object - the extremes of offense and defense. - It’s possible that Zacian and Zamazenta are based on Geri and Freki, the two wolves that accompany Odin, the god who leads the Aesir.
-= Eternatus =- - (aeternatus (LAT: immortalized)) OR (eternal + Thanatus) - A bizarre Pokémon with a mostly-skeletal appearance. It’s Dragon-type, and it’s said to leech off the unique energy of Galar (probably Dynamax power), so I believe it could be based on Nidhoggr, the dragon that gnaws on the roots of Yggdrasil, the World Tree. - Its boss-only Eternamax form turns it into a big spiral with only a large hand-like appendage. It could be a nod to how Nidhoggr coils itself around Yggdrasil’s roots, or even how the serpent Jormungandr coils itself around Earth/Midgard, or even just the serpent of Ouroboros (a symbol of the infinite).

A brief history of bad times, part 1
So hi, it’s been a while.
Quick answers to your questions:
- Yeah, i probably should do that podcast. Sorry. I recorded a bunch of interviews with cool people but never had the faith in myself or what I was doing to actually fully press ahead with it. It’ll likely see the light of day soon.
- Yeah, i will blog some more. Spoiler alert, I have like 3 tours worth of absolute nonsense with a particular band to write about that i’m trying to structure in my head. It’ll happen, probably soon. Difficult second album and all that. The thing is, 2017 has actually been a great year for me as far as the tours I’ve been a part of and there hasn’t been that beautiful air of resentment about my life choices that was present the year prior. And as far as the ones i’ll be writing about, I guess I wanted to let the dust settle on them a bit.
- Yeah, old blue is still running. German engineering, right?
EDIT: I’d originally intended this to be a single post about a fairly short tour as it wasn’t quite as action packed as the last one, but I guess I really know how to waffle on when I’m whinging. I think this will probably be in 3 parts if this is anything to go by.
So, with that out of the way, let’s take a brief stop in early spring 2016. It’d been a really rough end to 2015, and with an impressively lengthy and expensive MOT in January behind me i’d had to pick up basically whatever I could get in terms of work to, you know, not starve to death in an alley somewhere. It was around this time I had one of my favourite tours ever with Allison Weiss and Jenny Owen Youngs (that’s them up there in the cover photo, don’t they look pleasant, well behaved and friendly?) but pretty soon afterwards I had a period where i had to kind of jam a few short runs together. Basically the sort of thing where i’d be finishing a tour in Liverpool one night, then starting another tour in Norwich the next night with a drop off in London inbetween.
Well, exactly that, actually. It meant agreeing to do some silly, inadvisable driving stints, but that’s pretty much my M.O at this point and I really needed the money. Plus the second run was with Ducking Punches who i’d previously had some great experiences with. I just had to get through 5 days on a metal tour first. I hadn’t had the best of times with metal bands prior to this (just you wait…) so I wasn’t exactly foaming at the mouth to get out on this run, but also it was only 5 days, how miserable could it be?
“I’ve brought Green Street, let’s stick it on. Can’t wait to get fucked up and go to a strip club tonight.”
Ah, fuck.
So day one of this run is an early morning pickup in London followed by a full days drive up to Newcastle for the first show. The band are tour support so there’s no backline/major stress about being there early, as is evident by us leaving a good hour or so later than planned after one of the guys slept in AND decided to go for breakfast.
First impressions, the guys all seem alright. Guitarist is a bit of a geezer and a bit of a scene veteran, clearly the driving force behind this band. Friendly enough, but you can imagine him trying to gouge your eyes out with a broken bottle after a minor disagreement about what the best Metallica album is. Drummer is a total space cadet, who doesn’t really seem to have much of a vested interest in being at all helpful ever at any time. He constantly wanders off during load ins and load outs leaving everyone else to carry his stuff. Also none of his stuff is in cases, that kind of drummer. Second guitarist and bassist I learn are temps as the band doesn’t have a full time solid lineup. Both very pleasant guys who didn’t have the perceived ego of the ‘actual’ band and were fairly chatty. Finally, the vocalist is the guy who got here late and decided to go eat, making us later. He’s a bit posh, a bit quiet, but seems alright.
Can you guess who’s going to turn out to be a massive prick?
So we finally get on our way, and roughly half an hour into the journey DISASTER strikes. One of the TV’s in the back loses power, and they can only watch Green Street on one screen. We’ve previously covered my anxiety when it comes to things like this, and so with this being the first day of a new tour with a new bunch of people I don’t know, I want to try and get it resolved ASAP. I pledge to stop once we’re out of London and take a look at it. This apparently isn’t good enough for geezer guitarist who continues to moan about not being able to watch a film about football hooligans that he’s probably already watched 15 times this year. I carry on regardless, until about 5 minutes later when a horrible acrid burning smell reaches me. I shout to the back, and the verdict is that they can’t see or smell any evidence of a fire or anything to be worried about. I pull over anyway.
It turns out that one of the power cables leading to the now defunct TV has overheated and is melting into itself. I remove the fuse, apologise, and break the news that it’s unlikely that this TV will be back online for the remainder of the tour. Green Street Geezer Guitarist is understandably mortified and begins to display the five stages of grief.
“Nah, it’s fine. I can’t believe this, FUCK! Is there nothing we can do to fix it? This is the worst, I just bought 5 new DVDs for this tour. Alright, fine, we’ll just stream the Chelsea match on my phone instead.”
After a long, football violence-less drive, we arrive in Newcastle. I’m informed we have a travelodge for the night, and we’ll check in there before we load in to the venue. It’s fairly central so i’m a bit worried about parking, but Newcastle isn’t too bad for city centre parking and i’m feeling good about having a bed. We load in, I go for some food with the vocalist and we make the kind of awkward small talk two people who clearly have nothing in common make. I get a pizza with chips on. It’s not good.
I stay for the show, the band are really not to my taste and the headliners even less so. Looks like i’ll be sitting in the van playing 3DS a fair few nights on this run then.
We head back to the travelodge fairly soon after the gig has finished which was surprisingly efficient, but it turns out it’s only because they’re all keen to shower and get changed before they go out and visit Newcastle’s finest clothing removal specialists. I’ve got a key to the room and they don’t need to get in the van, so i have a good nights sleep in a bed.
Day 2 we’re up at a reasonable hour. Those who went out apparently had a great time but are feeling a bit worse for wear, so the consensus is a spoons breakfast, obviously. Spoons is a happy place where nothing bad ever happens, so not much to say about that.
Show 2 is in Peterborough, a grotty forgettable town. Really, that’s what it says on the sign. The gig is super uneventful, and after I realise there’s a huge 24 hour Asda within walking distance of the venue that’s me sorted for entertainment for the evening.
We’re heading to London afterwards to stay at grimey green street guitar geezers gaffe so we have a bit of a drive, which is made all the more fun with a drop off in Welwyn Garden on the way as the singer wants to sleep in his own bed tonight and will get a train to us tomorrow. I’m assured it’s a 2 minute detour, and whilst that’s obviously an understatement it’s not massively far out of the way, so it’s agreed to without much fuss. We drop him off, then proceed to glorious central London. The rest of the guys want to stay up and watch Metallica live shows and in true metal band fashion take up all the comfortable surfaces before I even step foot in the house without a second thought for the well being of the man behind the wheel of the 3.5 tonne deathtrap they’ll be in the back of, so I opt to sleep in the van. As is tradition.

2, 4, 18 for the Muppet meme!
2. Which Muppet character that has not been seen in a long time do you want to return on TV?
Oh jeez, there’s quite a handful! For one, the rest of Gorilla Television, so Chip can hang around his old friends, Zondra and Ubu again.
Then there’s Clifford, who kind of disappeared after 2005. I know Kevin Clash retired, but you’d think they would’ve found him a new puppeteer by now. I always thought he was a pretty cool character! Especially when he was with Solid Foam
Oh, and the rest of the Solid Foam band too! I always wanted to know what their relationship with the Electric Mayhem was like, since it hinted that Dr. Teeth was their manager or something. And maybe they could’ve explained why Zoot and Animal took Flash and Drummer Girl’s places
4. Who’s your Muppet crush?
Clifford, because like I said, he was a really cool Muppet!
18. How’d you get into the Muppet fandom?
Okay, long story, so my followers may want to sit down for this.
I had vague memories of the Muppets until kindergarten. Like i think I remember seeing the In the Navy sketch on the Muppet Show when it was still being shown on Disney Channel, and maybe parts of Muppet Treasure Island when my older brother Josh had it on VHS, but after that, I didn’t really see anything Muppet-related.
Then, for a while after kindergarten...I was actually scared of the Muppets! It started when my grandmother got the season 1 DVD set for the Muppet Show when I was 6 years old, which as we all know, most of the characters looked kind of scary back then, especially the monsters. Apparently, something from the show scared me away from the Muppets, but I can’t remember if it was Mahna Mahna, Animal, or the Sherlock Holmes sketch where Miss Piggy and Baskerville got eaten by the big purple monster.
It scared me so badly back then, that I ran down to the basement screaming (The TV was upstairs in the living room).
For a while, the only things produced by Jim Henson that I was cool with watching was Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock, but NEVER the Muppet show or any of the Muppet movies
Then, in 6th grade, my chorus teacher decided to let us watch a movie because we had just sung in a school holiday concert, which delighted us. The movie ended up being The Muppet Christmas Carol. I was really scared but I didn’t say anything because I thought people would laugh at me. When it came to the part where Jacob Marley (Statler)’s head had morphed from the door knocker, I actually did shriek, but for some reason, I didn’t run out of the room.
Then, when Animal’s part when he walked onscreen to yell everyone to be quiet, I got scared again, not sure what he would do since I’ve never seen this film. When he said his line, “QUIET!!!!” I didn’t scream or anything, but I didn’t laugh either I just stayed quiet and watched on.
Then, in my 6th grade English class, our teacher was having us read the Christmas Carol and guess what movie we watched? Yep, he wanted us to compare the actual book to the Muppet adaptation of it. When Statler’s part came up again, I braced myself for it, but this time...I didn’t freak out, in fact, as I watched the rest of the movie, I actually began to enjoy because i realized the Muppets weren’t as scary as I past believed.
Then, began my whirlwind Muppet craze!!! After watching the movie, I was hooked on Muppets, so hooked that I wanted to see all the other movies and shows they made. First, I found an old VHS tape for Muppets from Space (we had a VHS player back then, but we’ve since upgraded to Blu-Ray), where I saw the movie, and also the trailers for all the past Muppet films. I was really intrigued by the Great Muppet Caper one the most (which became my favorite Muppet film after watching it!).
Then, i started getting all the Muppet films on DVD from my grandfather, including Muppets from Space, then the three Muppet Show seasons DVD packs, the 2nd one i got in March and the other two I got on Easter, and when we got internet and i got a laptop, I found the Muppet wiki and found out about Muppets Tonight and Jim Henson Hour, not to mention a lot of Muppet fanart and fanfiction on Fanfiction.net and Devientart (Some of it was actually your art!) and I met my first online Muppet friends.
When The Muppets premiered when i was in 7th grade, I was very excited to see it! And when Muppets Most Wanted was being made, I wanted to see that too! Then, when my family got Wi-Fi, I used my laptop to look up anything Muppet-related, where i found out about Jim Henson Hour and Muppets Tonight. By then, I began to read about Jim Henson himself, the creator of the Muppets and learned about all his past works, where I became a Muppet history expert.
And now I’ve seen almost everything Muppet-related and I have a lot of Muppet fan friends, some from Deviantart and a few new ones, that I can talk about it with. Now I’m just impatiently waiting for The Muppet at the Hollywood Bowl thing to occur and hope that someone films it and hope the Muppets will do more in the future.
