There are no biological differences between male and female Irkens and the few differences that DO exist are purely cosmetic and done on purpose by the Irken (straightening or curling antennae, exposing or hiding eyelashes, American or British accent). It has also been confirmed by Jhonen that Irkens have no reproductive organs of any kind regardless of “gender”.

The default Irken gender is genderless. This is both heavily implied by the above stuff and pretty much confirmed by Jhonen with the quote “the only Irken gender is ASSHOLE. All caps”.

This means that all Irkens are born sexless with no gender, but every Irken we’ve ever seen in canon identifies as male or female and uses those pronouns. Their gender identity and expression do not match their sex assigned at birth.

Every Irken we’ve ever seen in canon is transgender.
