(Disclaimer: not addressing this at anyone in particular, just kinda grumpy after reading the thing) Ehhhh...yes, but also some no. The Democratic Party is still garbage, and Biden's done a bunch of bad stuff already in only a couple months, and the DSA is problematic at best on a *good* day...but people who act like *nothing* has changed are just ridiculous. Are plenty of things still bad and still happening? Yeah, they are, and that still needs to have something done about it. Some of them are *not* being done anymore or as much or are happening in different ways. Saying "oh they're all the same" both doesn't acknowledge that some people's situations *have* changed and disregards their circumstances, and that you can't just use the same exact arguments and tactics when the situation has changed. People who *do* see things as having changed aren't going to listen to you when you're saying they haven't. And also while I'm fine with some of the criticisms in this (at least assuming what they're commenting on is accurate...I haven't seen the original interview), I'm 100% in favor of calling out class reductionism as harmful. Yes, class is a very major aspect of like...everything. Possibly even the biggest one overall, with the way it interacts with so many other things. It always puts me on edge when people start talking completely seriously and unironically about "no war but class war" and how identity politics is the worst thing ever specifically because nothing else is as important as class. I'm queer, I'm disabled, I'm Jewish, I'm the child of an immigrant, and y'all can fuck *all* the way off with that. My experience of all of those things is affected by class, absolutely it is, but it doesn't *negate* them. Sometimes some of those things affect what's going on *the most* for me. It doesn't help that in the past few years I've heard stuff like that the most from the dirtbag left and similar factions, who are like "oh don't worry, it's cool...we're just being racist/sexist/ableist/etc. *ironically*, but we totally support marginalized people" and I am so tired. At least I've run into less of that in the past year, so that's something... It's just, like...I'm exhausted by people being like "we have to unite the working class and rise up and overthrow capitalism together!" while simultaneously alienating half the people they're talking about. (I feel like I kinda wandered off on a bit of a tangent only sort of related to the original point, but I get really frustrated by people saying "actually saying that class essentialism is bad is what is bad" and it kinda sets me off sometimes...you have to acknowledge other aspects of people's experiences, both to understand their struggles and to win them over to your side)
