what bothers me the most about tros and what i’m most unable to accept is how jj managed to destroy and disrespect EVERY single character. even the ones who technically had “happy endings”🤡
ben - i feel like this one doesn’t even need to be said, but i’ll say it anyways. after years of emotional abuse from palpatine, it’s disheartening to see that jj gave no explanation as to why palpatine wanted ben (personal vendetta against the skywalkers i guess??) when it semed like he only needed rey AND that ben never really triumphed over palpatine in any way. it hurts to know that leia straight up had a vision about her son’s death but that she still seemingly gave up on him despite knowing that he was struggling and that she sent him off to train to be jedi with a luke, when apparently she could’ve done that herself. it’s disheartening that luke who believed even vader could be turned back to the light also gave up on his nephew, when he was just a boy no less. it’s disheartening that although he was the last skywalker (a fact only palpatine acknowledged!), none of his family nor his namesake reached out to help him. instead of telling the last skywalker to rise, they ignored him (as they had apparently done his whole life) in favor of a palpatine. ok. even though as the last skywalker, he really should’ve been the one to have the final kill against palpatine since it was HIS family that palpatine destroyed, he doesn’t. he’s motionless in a pit for the whole final battle. ok. that will never not leave a bad taste in my mouth. his whole family (except for han apparently i love him) gave up on him and clearly so did the writers. as a fan of the skywalkers and their story, this isn’t the ending i wanted for them. especially when luke and leia and han had given their lives to see him turn to the light. and for what? so he could be used as a plot device to conveniently bring rey back to life and then promptly die (even though they’re a force dryad and, according to jj’s own fucking canon, supposedly one) without any fanfare, emotional reaction whatsoever, or later mention? wtf? it’s disrespectful not only to ben solo, who is easily the best character in the sequel trilogy and one of the best characters in ALL of star wars, but it’s disrespectful to the entire skywalker line!! (and to adam driver, who deserved so much better than this shit. go get that oscar)
rey - by making her a palpatine, jj completely disregarded her arc. whatever your opinions about rey nobody, once they went with it, they never should’ve retconned it and turned her into a legacy character in the final film. it felt cheap. in my theater, there was no cheering about this reveal. because jj had never properly set it up and he didn’t even bother to reveal it an impactful way. but what’s most annoying about rey suddenly being a legacy character is that it completely disregards the fact that she was powerful on her OWN, without any famous blood making her that way. furthermore, by turning her into the chosen one and giving her the entire skywalker legacy (which felt like a slap in the face to the skywalkers imo), she did turn into a mary sue, one of the biggest complaints about her since day 1. she was overpowered, morally perfect, and never faced any failure. i struggled to root for her as the “hero” because i felt everything was handed to her on a silver platter. so not only did jj turn her into a mary sue and take her power away from her by turning her into a legacy, but he also destroyed the fact that her whole arc had been “seeking belonging” and a family. rather than having her final scenes be with her new found family, she ends the movie with her canon soulmate dead and no one but a droid by her side on a desert planet of all places. to add further insult to injury, she also disregards her family name even though they supposedly loved her and sacrificed themselves for her (despite the fact that they sold her but whatever) in favor of a last name of a guy she had barely known. she had more emotional connection to han or leia, but she didn’t take their last name. she took luke’s, the guy who had refused to teach her and who she had come to view in a more negative light towards the end of tlj. in this house i will not EVER be calling her rey sky- i can’t even say it🤢
finn - in all honestly, they screwed finn’s character arc in episode 1 when jj turned him into a lovesick sidekick who served as comedic relief. as a deserted stormtrooper, he could’ve had the most interesting storylines. and he should have. but apparently the writers forgot about him. although they mention his past BRIEFLY, it’s paid no real weight or attention. instead, he spends the whole movie once again trying to (possibly) confess his feeling for rey. and for what? probably just to bait finnrey fans and prove the character’s heterosexuality bc it goes absolutely nowhere. although we find out he’s force sensitive, that too is glossed over and has no lasting effect. he’s also made co general, which okay cool, but then he does nothing?? so while finn could have and should have been a main character with an interesting storyline, they turn him into your average run of the mill action hero with an occasional quip. john boyega, sweetie, i’m so sorry (but i guess that’s kind of what he wanted since he hated tlj, the only movie where he actually had a main role with any character growth?? idk)
poe - it’s once again evident that they originally intended to kill off poe bc he has no arc whatsoever. he gets a little backstory as a drug smuggler now ig, which really came out of left field considering the already established canon with his past as a pilot. he’s more of the same in this movie, except more unlikable than usual (imo). he’s still stubborn, occasionally funny, but mostly he just bickers with rey, which isn’t funny, at all necessary, and doesn’t add anything to the “trio’s” dynamic. he’s at his best when he’s with finn but then, of course, jj has to remind us of how straight he is every single scene so. another character like finn who could have been great, but with the lazy writing, he has no arc, no backstory, no character growth, so he’s just mediocrity personified and just kind of there.
zorii & jannah - both could’ve been awesome. both are just there for a brief introduction and to help the heroes with maybe one thing and that’s it. both deserved better.
the skywalkers - yeah jj really said a big fuck you to luke, leia, and anakin most of all. the WORST part of tros is the fact that it basically makes the previous six episodes useless. anakin’s redemption arc? what does it matter now? he didn’t successfully bring balance to the force. he didn’t successfully kill palpatine. and now his entire bloodline is dead. ok cool😎 thank you jj!!!! what a hopeful end to the skywalker saga!!!! i love seeing that anakin failed and wasn’t REALLY the chosen one. i love that luke and leia gave their legacy to a descendant of the guy who tried to tear apart and terrorized their family. that’s really nice. i love that anakin NEVER reached out to help his grandson who struggled with the dark just like he did. but that he came in just in time to tell palp’s granddaughter to rise😍 really hopeful, lovely ending. thanks again jj! thanks for making leia seem like a bad mother who sees visions about her son but just throws in the towel and doesn’t really try to help him?? wtf??? not my princess leia. also tros luke? truly the worst luke. i really have no other words, i’m just disappointed. jj let me down in every single way possible and ones i didn’t even realize he could.
palpatine - jj also managed to ruin the best star wars villain, a feat i didn’t even think possible. palpatine had always seemed scary to me because of his inhuman qualities. but in this one, he’s back with no explanation whatsoever. he just is. he somehow managed to survive (ok🙄) and furthermore he had a kid. what in the fuck? jj clearly read harry potter and the cursed child, but he clearly also forgot to read the reviews. NOBODY LIKES IT WHEN THE PREVIOUSLY UNTOUCHABLE/SCARY VILLAIN HAS A KID OUT OF NOWHERE. NOBODY. i seriously spent the entire movie wondering who the heck would sleep with him? that’s it. he didn’t seem menacing or at all like a threat. this movie genuinely had no stakes whatsoever (that’s why ben’s death feels so out of left field bc literally for what?! but i digress) also the final “fight” where rey kills him??? very lame. he supposedly survived all those years to be taken out like that?? no thank you, i’d like a refund.
in conclusion, thank you to jj for ruining my favorite franchise by killing off every last one of my favorite characters, destroying the skywalker legacy (& killing them off), ruining seriously every character, and leaving me with despair!!! while i’ll continue to watch star wars without including episode 9, it sucks that some of my joy is zapped from my favorite series. because this is how future generations will know star wars. with this shitty ending. and any future movies will have this canon. and that really fricking sucks. thanks, i hate it.
anyways feel free to message if you’re also in the depths of despair about how this all ended!! bc the more i think about it, the sadder/angrier i get.

hi yes hello ivy please if you wouldn't mind expanding on what eros was talking about -- tell us more about this skeletons being revived from dead humans thing? :0
*Cracks Knuckles* My time has come, lads.
For ya’ll sake I’m putting this under a readmore.
SO!  First of all, a disclaimer.  The original idea of skeletons resurrecting dead bodies was inspired in part by the comic/au Skelechara, which you can read here!  It’s really pure.  I honestly can’t remember how much of my resurrection lore existed in 2015 when I first conceptualized VH so it’s best to cover my bases, as my memory is terrible and I can;t remeber when I started developing that particular aspect of my lore.
A second disclaimer is that some of this is subject to change.  I’m fussing with aspects of it all the time.  But as of right now, this is ~how it works~ for my version of skele-lore.  I’ll be presenting it as a sort of... Bulleted?  List?  I guess?
A THIRD disclaimer is that for this to flow out of me, I have to throw down some not-yet-spoken about lore with some of my other skeleton ocs who I don’t PLAY but will feature in a future project, so bare with me.  Links will be provided so you can take a poke around
Not all skeletons can resurrect human corpses, or any other corpses for that matter.  It’s a unique skill that is pretty rare.  There haven’t been enough cases of the ability to do much study on it.  The skill itself is often kept hidden, as it is a pretty taboo topic as well as pretty dangerous if you don;t know what you’re doing.
As of right now, I only have FOUR skeletons in my massive skeleton roster (that is ever growing) that are capable of this ability.  One is MV Boli, who HAS the ability but has never done it and is not aware that she can do it.  The second is Zapfino Dingbat, her father, who has done the most research on the topic, and has had the most practice.  The third is a skeleton named Jokerman, who is unique in that he himself is a made skeleton.  He has three resurrections under his belt, three children named Mania, Vine and Dokdo, all of whom are VH residents.
The fourth is a skeleton by the name of Escrow who is also unique.  He somehow managed to learn how to do resurrections, despite it being a skill that is unteachable.  He is currently buried in some DEEP LORE but all you really need to know is that he was a colleague of Zapfino’s.
So, onto some particulars:
If a body is to resurrected, it’s best that it is complete.  Missing limbs aren’t ideal, but you can work around it.  If a body is too badly damaged, chances are you won’t be able to bring it back without a lot of healing magic.  A very skilled skeleton healer can heal the bones of a body, even after it no longer has a soul. (Bo’s mother Lucida was one such healer.)  If a human can live without it, a skeleton can too.  (But if it’s missing a head, sorry pal but it’s donion rings)
The first step in a resurrection after you’ve made sure the skeleton is okay to be resurected, is removing the flesh.  The SAFEST way to do this is to remove the flesh manually or ‘the old fashioned way’ which involves many different cleaning measures.  HOWEVER, you can bypass this step is you expell a greater amount of magic when you perform the resurrection.  This results in the flesh almost literally exploding off the body.  This is gross, and takes WAY more magic than is needed.  This is where resurrections can get pretty dangerous.  This is the type of resurrection Zapfino Dingbat was doing during the war to make more skeletons to serve in the kinds army.  More on that in a moment.
Resurrection itself is a very powerful type of magic that comes directly from the SOUL.  It allows the resuscitator's SOUL to split open and release a burst of magic strong enough to manifest itself into en entirely new SOUL.  Initially, this soul is quite weak, and needs time to form and grow before they can function on the same level as a regular skeleton.  This is, obviously, exhausting for someone performing a resurrection.  Over time ,the soul becomes permanently cracked and pitted from being opened and split so many times.  Similar to a horcrux from Harry Potter, the user may start to sort of ‘lose themself’ from being spread so thin.
Once a body is revived, they often take on a mental age close to their body, but more often they act slightly younger. (A child of six may act like a toddler, a young adult like a teenager, etc.  They will catch up, they have lots of time.)  They seem to possess no memories whatsoever, starting essentially as a blank slate.  They are capable of moving, speaking, and thinking, and within minutes of being resurrected personalities begin to emerge as their soul rapidly takes a more stable form.  Personal, emotional aspects form much faster than physical ones.  Magic wont start to manifest for at least a day or two, and from there it;s a matter of training and honing their skills.  Some took to it, others did not.
During the war, there wasn’t time to allow for these new beings to form and complete their resurrections, so as a result they were very magically weak and died very easily on the battlefield.  The original goal of Zapfino’s project was to up their numbers of strong skeleton warriors, but it became a sort of body factory, adding numbers to die, giving stronger fighters a better chance to survive.  It was a cruel cycle.  Not the intention, but it ended up being the reality.  (This is kind of the basis for mine and Ero’s War Verse)
A first step is usually to give them a name and a brief overview of what the state of the world was.  These people were pretty much told it was their purpose to fight (and die) and most of them took to it immediately as it was all they knew.  If there was resistance, they would be forced to fight.  It was a cruel system.  Zapfino ignored how cruel it was for the sake of progress. Someday the war would end and he could do something better but for now, this is what needed to be done.
I need to reiterate that these bodies were initially VERY weak and easily killed.  It was only with time that they’d become strong and essentially fully fledged monsters.  All of the made skeletons alive now are fully capable of magic and are fully formed.  The most recent skeleton that was made was Dokdo, made four years prior to current events.
Before I go on, I will cycle back to WHY Zapfino did this.  He discovered his ability to do resurrections during his childhood after being taken in by humans black magic users.  He mostly kept this talent under wraps as he grew older, only really digging into the idea of creating life, COMPLETE lives, once the war began.  I HC that the war started with a different king, Asgore’s father.  I think THIS king was much crueler and more violent and was more willing to do some nasty things to get ahead in the war.  When Zapfino made his proposal to swipe human bodies and restore them to fight for the monsters, he IMMEDIATELY set him up with resources to do his dark work.  Initially, he DID have good intentions.  He wanted to rehabilitate them and give the ma REAL fighting chance but the numbers needed were too great to keep up, so they were made and sent out in rapid fire.  He was working incredibly long hours doing impossible work.  After the old king was slain, the damage that had been done was devastating.  Sure, many lives were GAINED but just as many had been lost.  He was ordered to cease.  And he did.  In public, anyway.  After Asgore took over the practice DID continue, mostly in privacy.  There were OTHER motives now.  Dark, darker and yet darker motives.
During the war, many of these bodies died, but not all of them perished.  Some of them even managed to live long enough to become great warriors.  Some of them found love, married, had children. After the war there was a certain level of unrest within the skeleton community.  They weren’t pleased with what had happened to their race, how they were made into pawns for the war effort.  Zapfino become somewhat of an outcast in his community because of this, which isolated his entire family.  He was still welcome with other scientists and with some of the made skeletons who were more thankful for their chance at life, but all in all, he was shunned as a cruel man.  His involvement with the establishment of Vertebral Heights was seen as a redeeming effort by the public, an attempt to right the wrongs.  Some, those that knew him or his wife or children, forgave him.  Most didn’t.
During the colonization of the underground, as cities and settlements were built and as the core grew, skeletons as a race grew restless.  In some monster communities the made skeletons were treated poorly, because the ‘reeked of human’ and ‘were more human than monster’ which unfortunately caused a lot of problems, which were only amplified my misinformation and propganda from various parties.
Eventually a decision was reached that the skeletons, made and born, would leave.  The made ones especially.  They were going to venture deeper underground and establish a new city.  There was talk of exchanges and partnerships, but once they left, connection ceased entirely.  After awhile, anyone who knew a skeleton figured they’d died off.  So few remained behind, and if they tried to follow the original group down, they never came back.  No one ever came back from Vertebral Heights.  A search party was even sent by Asgore, and they never came back either.  It was given up on, a great loss for monster kind.  Or... So they thought, anyway.
SO TO RECAP ON THE BIOLOGY PART, AND SOME STUFF I FORGOT AND AM TOO LAZY TO GO ADD IN:
Can be resurrected from any corpse, human or animal as long as it it in decent working condition.
Initially the body is very weak, and they have no memories.
Memories do come back to them, often in dreams.  But it’s never enough to restore them to who they were.
There is no correlation between who they were as humans and who they are now.  Just because they were a violent human, doesn’t mean they will be a violent skeleton.  This is especially true if the body has had time to sit without a SOUL for awhile.
Resurrection is a rare skill.
With time they can be just as strong as any regular skeleton monster (which is pretty damn strong)
The initial plan was better than what it turned into.
Resurrection can be very harmful to the monster doing the resurrection (Physically and Mentally)
The common monster probably doesn’t recall that this was ever a thing that happened.
The move to VH was inspired by mostly lies and propaganda against made skeletons.
Made skeletons are capable of having children with born ones.
If there’s anything else you want to know ask me I’m sure I’m missing beats here and there but I am so tired.

it's only been a moment, it's only been a lifetime
ao3 link
He wakes up slowly, legs tangled with Aaron and his face half pressing against his husband’s shoulder. He holds his breath for a second trying to listen to the noise, or in this case the lack of it in the house. Sure, the baby monitor would let them know if Seb’s awake but there are mornings that Liv is up early, rare, but they do exist, and she likes to take him downstairs to keep her company until he really needs his dads. There’s no noise downstairs however, it’s just one of those rare quiet mornings.
He raises his head a bit, trying his very hardest not to wake up Aaron.
Half past eight, he reads on the clock. He’s pretty sure his son will be reminding them all of his presence very soon, and he feels too restless now to try and get back to sleep. He kisses Aaron’s shoulder, smiles softly at the little noise his husband let’s out. He wants to let him sleep, Aaron had been up early yesterday and looked after Seb for the whole day, while Robert had meetings until late. And tonight when Seb screamed his lungs out it was Aaron who checked up on him, calmed him down, Robert protested but his husband insisted.
He now has to untangle his legs though, Aaron lets out a few murmurs of protest but he doesn’t wake up. Robert reaches out to grab his phone, scoots closer to Aaron again, pressing another kiss to his shoulder to let him know he isn’t alone.
He unlocks his phone and sees the date, he also feels his heart close to stopping. He can’t help it, he’s sentimental like that and knows Aaron is too. The 21st and 22nd are just special ok?
But especially today, the 22nd of August. It’s been six months, six months since they got back together. Robert’s breathe is caught in his throat. Six months since he got this back, waking up in their bed, close to Aaron, tangled up with Aaron. It’s really flown by, he guesses time really does fly by when you’re having fun, and when you’re settled, happy and finally back where you belong. Then he realises that for a man keen on celebrating anniversaries, he actually forgot this one, a pretty damn special one. He doesn’t know if Aaron knows, what if his husband planned something? He feels sick suddenly, sick and guilty.
He quickly works it out in his head, he will make Aaron breakfast to make up for it and then they can both decide what they want to do today, if Aaron hasn't got anything planned, that is. Robert is about to move again when Aaron opens his eyes, Robert can’t lie, he loves this, Aaron waking up, sleep soft, a slightly confused look on his face and then he smiles, sometimes annoyed because he is just like that, but often it’s just a soft smile, one that warms Robert’s heart.
“Hey.” He says softly
“Hey you.” Aaron says, eyes not leaving Robert’s face “what time is it then?”
“Half eight.”
“It’s quiet.”
“Yes, it’s nice, Seb will wake up soon though.” Robert sighs, can’t escape now so he just decides to ask straight out. “Do you know what day it is?” he whispers, sees Aaron looking slightly panicked which tells him enough really, “It’s nothing bad.” He laughs, he holds up his lock screen to Aaron, sees his husband squint.
“It’s the-“ Aaron cuts himself off, Robert watches it click for the next few seconds then he breathes “it’s been 6 months hasn’t it.” He states and Robert has to chuckle at his reply.
“Yeah, I forgot- I’m so sorry I don’t know how I could even forget-“
“Don’t I also forgot, or doesn’t that surprise you.” Aaron grins.
“No! that’s not what I meant I-“
“I am just joking Rob, it’s ok, we have the day off, so we can just do something nice, I do want to celebrate.” Aaron says, voice going soft.
“Yeah me too, I can’t believe it’s been 6 months, that’s half a year.”
“Best we have ever been really.”
“I think so too, so much has happened.” Robert says grabbing Aaron’s hand and squeezing it. It was true, a lot of things happened, they were a real little family, all settled and happy and they were getting married again. But there was also all the stuff with Rebecca, Liv in prison, a carbon monoxide leak, losing Gerry.
Aaron nods, squeezing his hand in reply “stop daydreaming you and kiss me.” Robert laughs and does exactly that. When he pull away he runs his hand through Aaron’s hair, and whispers “happy anniversary, I love you.”
Aaron is all smiley and happy under him “I love you too.”
“As much as I would like to continue this, unfortunately we can’t.”
“I know” Aaron sighs, “we can later though.”
“I’ll hold you to that.”
“So, shall I get started on my legendary fry up then, on this special day.”
“I like that idea very much Mr Sugden.”  Aaron wriggles, Robert still lying half on top of him, he will let him go but not before he gets to give him another lingering kiss, a promise for more later.
When Robert comes downstairs Seb on his hip, all dressed and ready for the day, Aaron has already set the table.
“Hiya, it’s nearly done.” Aaron says and comes closer, giving Robert a kiss on his cheek and tickling Seb’s belly, “morning little man, and I also got your food ready.”
“It’s like he knows it’s a special day, giving us that little extra time in bed.” Robert replies.
Aaron laughs and orders for them to sit down.
“I’ll make us a brew.” Robert says.
“No, no it’s fine, I think someone is hungry.” Aaron says, nodding to Seb.
“Where’s Liv, is she still sleeping?” Robert asks, can’t really believe someone would sleep through the smell of his husband’s legendary breakfast.
“Left a note, she’s getting up to whatever with Gabby.”
“She’s missing out then.”
When they’re all finished, Robert gets up to clear the table. “No, no it’s my turn, stay.” He orders and Aaron just laughs at him, and Robert wants this forever, gets to have this forever.
“What do you want to do today?”
Aaron biting his lips, shrugs, “I don’t know, we could always go to that new bar in town.” He grins and Robert scoffs, “shut up, we can always try and find a fair somewhere.”
Aaron shakes his head, chuckling, “no but we can go somewhere later, a drive out somewhere, have dinner.
Robert nods “yeah I like that, I’ll ask Vic if she can have Seb.”
They spent the rest of the morning and afternoon pottering about in the Mill.
They watch a film Robert’s head on Aaron’s chest, they drink more cups of tea and eat loads of Aaron’s favourite chocolate biscuits. Seb’s amusing himself in his pillow fort, which is definitely his new favourite thing, thanks to Aaron.
After the film’s finished they have another two hours before they even have to get ready, Robert brings Seb up for his nap, Aaron still lazying about on the couch. Just when he’s flopped down next to him again, about to use their time wisely he hears the lock and seconds later Liv walks in.
Robert sighs against Aaron lips and the younger man can’t resist rolling his eyes.
“Good timing Liv.”
She laughs “so I can see, never said when I’d be back did I?”
“No you didn’t” Robert huffs, while he tries to get back into a more normal position.
“It’s our anniversary today.” Aaron tells her but she just frowns. “Well our six months anniversary, we got back together six months ago.” Robert adds.
“Oh” she brightens, “congratulations then, that means I’ve been stuck with you for six months” she nods towards Rob.
“Yeah, and you will be until you move out ey” Aaron surprises him by saying.
“Gross” Liv laughs.
When Liv is upstairs, Aaron looks at him and sighs “later then” Robert rolls his eyes “later” and gives him a peck. They sit like that for a while longer, the tv showing something neither of them care about, they only care about enjoying each other’s company.
“I just can’t believe it’s been six months” Robert starts, shaking his head.
“I know” his husband replies, lost in thought, also thinking about how much has actually happened. “I am glad I didn’t have to do any of it alone you know, what with Liv and mum.” Robert pulls him closer, so Aaron’s head is now on his chest. “I know” he murmurs, “same here, I- I don’t even want to think about it, doing all of this alone, I am so glad I’ve got you again” he whispers “thank you.”
“Don’t” Aaron says and Robert smiles, he always does that, he doesn’t want Robert’s thanks, but he can’t help it.
“I am glad you came back you know, to Vic’s” Robert says, can’t keep it in, and he’s allowed isn’t he?  It’s been six months. Aaron reaches for his hand and squeezes it tightly. “So am I. I- wasn’t sure if you’d open or- if it was going to work.” He laughs softly. “I just needed to make sure, you knew how much I love you and- well appreciate you Rob, you’re a good person, even if you don’t always see it yourself.”
Robert finds it hard to swallow, squeezes their hands. “You help” he says “I love you so much, and I’ve got everything back haven’t I, my best friend, my husband and my home.”
“You will always have a home with me now.” Aaron whispers and then he suddenly sits up and throws his arms around Robert’s neck and Robert responds by burying his face into his husband's neck.
Aaron was always good at fixing Robert’s broken parts.
