Beside the Tigris river, a mystic sat with his disciples, whereupon he heard the voice of God: “O old man, do you wish for Me to show the people the state of your heart [contaminated with the impurities of sin], so that your disciples will throw stones at you and abandon you?”

The mystic smiled and replied, “O Beloved Lord, do You wish for me to tell the people about a drop from the Ocean of Your Forgiveness, so that the people will set aside performing their religious duties?”
