16 year old Asterix: That was like... 10 years ago! I'm sure no one remembers it!
*sees a huge mural with what looks to be child surrounded by lightning and stars as they strikes the town*
Asterix: ...You have got to be pulling on my tail...
Sun: Yeah... That's why Taurus told you to put on you're disguise...
(This is a bit of lore for Asterix btw for when his powers were developing)

Please for the love of TOUTATIS MAKE A WW2 RESISTANCE FIGHTER ASTERIX
Asterix but in a different time period!?!? Low key making a 'modern day' Asterix kind of doesn't appeal to me, part of the charm is that it's set in 50 bc.
BUT WW2 RESISTANCE FIGHTER ASTERIX COULD GO CRAZY THOUGH
Tumblr media
I kind of skimmed a few sources to get the general vibe of what was going on in this period to make the designs (ong if I got smth wrong please tell me) but ummmmmm yeah!
Story wise and name wise for them... I dunno, I don't know much cause I feel that the village, getafix and ceasar would DRASTICALLY change with the period.
I dunno, I just make silly doodles :]
As I'm typing this rn, I just noticed I forgot to shade Asterix's right hand on the sitting sketch. kill me So glad I was reading cause I remembered this could be used foe obelix

The whitest Yoshi. His paleness blinds. He is kept in the dark, for if a ray of sunlight so much as kissed his cheek, he would be singed. He has not been allowed to develop any identity or personality of his own. He is truly a blank canvas. So let's go through my favorite costumes available in Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, to see what I would have this little freak wear!
Tumblr media
Shy Guy Yoshi is goofy. Most of it is very well done! And then there's the mask on the nose. Simply goofy. There's no other way it could have been done, but it's utterly goofy! At least, that's what it seems like. But this Yoshi tells a story. Those eyeholes on the mask aren't just for show, even though there are no eyes looking through them. This Yoshi has the largest nostrils in town, and this is an accessory that finally lets it showcase those remarkable assets without compromising their use! It may look like a Shy Guy, but it's certainly not shy when it comes to sniffing. It can smell you right now, through the internet!
Tumblr media
Burt the Yoshi is one I have used quite a lot while playing! I love Burt, and this is as close as we've gotten to playing as him! The general rule of Yoshi design is that if the source material has a large nose or bill, it's probably going to translate quite well. That holds true here! The only thing is, Yoshi's shape makes this feel a bit more Obelix then Burt. I want to think of Burt, not Obelix! I'm sure he's a funny enough fellow, but I have no attachment whatsoever to Asterix and his pals. Sorry! Just not French at all!
Tumblr media
Citrus Yoshi is very cute! Overall rather basic, but you do get the orange cross-section cheeks, and! The little stem nub on top! THAT is what truly makes it so lovable.
Tumblr media
Fluffin' Puffin Yoshi is what I replaced poor Burt with right when I got the chance! On a first playthrough it's so fun not knowing what Yoshi you'll restitch in a given stage, but seeing the yarn colors, and being able to guess based on those and the stage itself. I was so hoping there would be Fluffin' Puffin Yoshi, and there was! And it does not remind me of a single French cartoon guy! Just a funniest bird!
Tumblr media
Jeepers o'clock, you're in for a shock, just hope Spooky Yoshi does not your door knock! This one is an effective spooky design that does not feature orange at ALL, which is rather impressive. The color choices are very nice, especially the gradients, and I like the bright radioactive ooze green! Most notable, though, are the eyes! This is a rare design to feature custom eyes, which are not actually a possibility in the 3DS version's Yoshi editor. This Yoshi uses illegal LEGO building techniques, and that is why it is in a video game, and not a LEGO set.
Tumblr media
THIS, though, Trousers Yoshi, is actually my favorite of all! Not a design based on any funny enemy, but one that just sort of looks like Yoshi is wearing pants. That's funny! Yoshi doesn't do that! How droll!
That ended up all being from the Wii U version, huh? Well, I have more fun designing Yoshis in the 3DS version than I do playing the actual levels. Perhaps I will follow this up shortly with a showcase of Yoshis I've made! And I would love to see if you have any you've made that you're proud of, too!

............................WELL.....................
Honestly, I really admire their height difference, etc.
Besides, I have a thought that's stuck in my head. Imagine that Asterix's wings are sensitive.
Well, you've seen for yourself that they adapt to their master's emotions............I can imagine how Setautomatics can pull, stroke, and scratch Asterix's wing as they pass by and elicit an appropriate reaction.
I just can't, I'm shaking from thinking about it.
Even if it's impossible, "impossible things don't exist until you try."
These wings are literally like cat ears, you know, when you touch the tip of an animal's ear, it twitches in an attempt to remove the source of the stimulus. So are the wings of Asterix. Setautomatics once grabbed the longest feather with two fingers and thoughtfully watched the wing flutter, trying to get out. As a result, the blacksmith got a painful kick in the knee, but it was worth it.

Could you do Teru for the ask game?
oh boy. ok.
Sexuality Headcanon:
gay. specifically. ok. maybe my most strange and specific take. but i feel like teru being into girls would kind of make his character arc... weaker? bizarre sentence i know but. hear me out. of the shots we get of him before mob enters the picture, 2/3 of them involve him flirting with girls. post mob we never ever see him with a girl again aside from one omake where there are a crowd of them trying to ask him out on valentines day who he is turning down. i feel like we are supposed to see these relationships as being a part of his fake, "perfect" persona he sheds rather than anything that came out of general interest. he's dating them because he's the handsome popular guy and that's what he's supposed to do, not because he's actually interested at all.
Gender Headcanon:
i like bigender teru a lot
A ship I have with said character:
terumob GIANT ASTERIX in the very specific context of being post confession arc. i see heart eye panel as the exact moment his false, idolized image of mob fades away and he sees him for what he truly is and still chooses to love him flaws and all. i really do think they are able to understand each other on a much deeper level than most people because they have both seen each other at their lowest and still chosen to continue wanting to be in each others lives. they both coped with their powers by creating these perfect masks to show the world (teru's as the prodigy and mob as the nice guy who will do anything for you and never ask anything in return) and were the first to be able to identify each other's facade because they recognized themselves in them and 💥. they mean a lot to me. also i do think the "they dont hang out much post canon" thing is a slight misconception, teru says they dont plan hangouts much and usually just run into each other and hang out from there. that with teru's "you should ask me to hang out more" gives such "im so used to other people making the first move that i havent developed the skills to let people know that i want them in my life" energy it makes me a little insane. anyway.
A BROTP I have with said character:
i need him ritsu and shou to run in circles hitting each other with rocks. i think any two of them on their own hang out normally and if you have the three of them + mob its normal but just the three of them and they start inventing games like "powerline volleyball"
A NOTP I have with said character:
pre confession arc terumob. like mob would never because tsubomi but if they did date it would last one month and they would never speak again itd be so bad (spoken from experience by a person with similar attachment issues who has dated people ive been hyperfixated on before)
A random headcanon:
HES SUCH A FILM BRO I KNOW HES A FILM BRO. this kid's letterboxxed is comprised solely of 1960s horror films made on a budget of 2 dollars and if you watch any of them with him he will provide trivia the entire film. also he has npd source fucking look at him
General Opinion over said character:
hes my favoriteeeeeeee the first time he showed up with the wig i went "alright this is gonna be my favorite character" and i spent the first half of season 2 mournfully going "i miss haystack boy :(" every episode he wasnt in. and then i read the manga and i got crazy insane over him. i really do feel like the anime dumbs him down a lot manga teru is a completely different person and hes so interesting i need to like. tear holes in my drywall. god. teru.

Trailer Analysis of Asterix & Obelix The Big Fight (Part 1) : Reference to the original comics
Part 2
So with the upcoming Netflix mini-series, we have much to look forward to. It's the first time the Asterix franchise is adapted as a serial, instead of a collection of separate adventures or a full-length movie (animated or live-action)
But it's not the first time the Big Fight gets adapted to the screen : in 1989, an animated movie combined the plots of the Big Fight (mostly Getafix becoming insane thanks to a menhir to the head) and the Soothsayer (with the character of Prolix and his subplot), leaving out the subplot of the Big Fight (the Chief's Fight in the French version).
The Netflix series has already some credentials : Alain Chabat, who's behind this series, is well known to the Asterix fandom for his job on Asterix : Mission Cleopatra, the live action adaptation of Asterix and Cleopatra, very fondly remembered if only for being the source of a thousand memes in France and Poland.
Tumblr media
One can wonder how this series will handle the challenge. What will it keep from the original comic ? What will change? What can we expect ?
Thanks to the trailers, we may already have some answers to these questions. Let's delve into it this with this three-part analysis.
We already know from the official synopsis of the series that the Getafix Amnesia plot will happen. For those who might have gotten distracted and need a reminder : while gathering herbs in the forest, Getafix gets attacked by Romans trying to capture him (as they have finally understood that without the druid, the Gauls don't have access to the magic potion anymore). In an attempt to rescue him, Obelix throws a menhir, which scatters the Romans but knocks Getafix out, causing him to lose his memory and mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This incident makes the Big Fight (in which a Gaul chief challenges another for the leadership of his tribe) particularly dangerous for the indomitable Gauls, as the Romans enroll the collaboration* of Ceramix, a very strong Gallo-Roman chief completely devoted to the Roman cause, and convincing him to challenge Vitalstatistix.
In the comic, it was actually to make sure Ceramix had a chance to win that the Romans tried to kidnap Getafix
*I'm using that term on purpose
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll explain a bit further how the series seems to expand on that bit, but it's clear that the one-page gag of a traveling carnival quickly setting up to capitalize on the fame of the Big Fight is present in the show, and will have a much bigger role in the series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tree patrol shows up! Owl Tree Roman shows up !! Maybe we can expect the Potion Testing subplot to happen (although it might be a bit too morally questionable to include)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some people pointed out the similitude of a couple of shots with a scene of the Chieftain's Shield, which deals with Vitalstatistix having a sore liver after overeating and needing to have a water cure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously the series won't have enough time to deal with the actual plot of the Chieftain's Shield (Asterix&Obelix racing against Romans to find Vercingetorix's famous shield), but my personal theory is that the series starts with Vitalstatistix having a sore liver and being ordered to leave for a water cure, even packing his stuff (as shown in the shot below) before the menhir situation happens and shifts drastically priorities. It could be a gag situation to introduce the characters and humour, or it could have an actual impact on the plot, as Vitalstatistix isn't as strong as he used to be and might need to find a champion for the Big Fight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A little yet charming bonus : Asterix' pose in this shot is very familiar to anyone who has read the comics
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And also, seems like Alain Chabat couldn't resist referencing a gag from Mission Cleopatra, where Caesar tosses raisins to catch in his mouth but keeps failing
So, the series seems intent on being faithful and paying homage to the comics.
But!
It still has its own surprises. New elements, changes to the plot to fit a 5 episodes format episode instead of a 40 pages comic.
These will be explored in the next part of this analysis!

Obelix’s SUPER Strength Surprise! | Asterix & Obelix: The Big Fight | Ne...
Okay so, technically, I found the series terribly good and often when I am that over the moon with something, I don't really want to add, because ... the source material did it all. (Otherwise I would have made She-Ra fics for sure!).
But ... this is Asterix. And it's special. I'm SO HAPPY with the way Obelix and Asterix were portrayed, and on top of that in a series pops with animation and funny moments from start to finish.
So yeah, I have at least one one-shot idea that I will write out and I will probably make it a little series on ao3.
You can always let me know if there is a particular thing in the series you want me to address! I make no promises, since I do always stick with what works for me  (I didn't ship Jullius and Asterix, in the end...). But if it does and I know it might bring someone else fun as well, that's double fun!
(Don't tell me any things you would like to write yourself though! Go do it! Let's make that amount of fics flourish!)
P.S. I love the scene above! Obelix launching the menhir like it’s a football, only to land on the other menhirs, with one hand. And then they both are like: “Oh well there is NOTHING we can do about that now.” They clearly aren’t very used to the concept of Obelix being super strong yet.
Asterix and Obelix, my beloved secret keeping champions <3.

How To Be: Marisa Rosetti (in 4e D&D)
In How To Be we’re going to look at a variety of characters from Not D&D and conceptualise how you might go about making a version of that character in the form of D&D that matters on this blog, D&D 4th Edition. Our guidelines are as follows:
This is going to be a brief rundown of ways to make a character that ‘feels’ like the source character
This isn’t meant to be comprehensive or authoritative but as a creative exercise
While not every character can work immediately out of the box, the aim is to make sure they have a character ‘feel’ as soon as possible
The character has to have the ‘feeling’ of the character by at least midway through Heroic
When building characters in 4th Edition it’s worth remembering that there are a lot of different ways to do the same basic thing. This isn’t going to be comprehensive, or even particularly fleshed out, and instead give you some places to start when you want to make something.
Another thing to remember is that 4e characters tend to be more about collected interactions of groups of things – it’s not that you get a build with specific rules about what you have to take, and when, and why, like you’re lockpicking your way through a design in the hopes of getting an overlap eventually. Character building is about packages, not programs, and we’ll talk about some packages and reference them going forwards.
In my ongoing effort to not just work my way through the entire cast of Ranma 1/2 for February How To Be challenges, spurred in part by not wanting to cover Shampoo since people would get pissy about me pointing out she’s kinda boring and a bit dumb, I have instead decided to reach out to some other source material, seeking an interesting example of a character defined by their ability to fight things, but also wanting something simple enough that I wouldn’t have to do a ton of research, and hopefully from a source material that could afford to be big on personality and a bit stupid.
Ah, Street Fighter, perfect.
Examining Marisa Rossetti
Marisa Rosetti is a character from the Street Fighter universe, introduced in Street Fighter 6. I assume. I’m sure some truly nerdy Street Fighter lore dork will be able to tell me that actually, she was referenced in Street Fighter V Sidestreet Alpha Overlourded, and don’t I look stupid now, everyone is laughing. At a glance, she is a tall muscular Italian lady who, ostensibly, has a day job as a jewelry designer. As a fighter, she uses a hybrid of what you’d see as boxing and wrestling, known as pankration, a martial art about which I know literally nothing. I could read to you from the wiki if you want, but really, we’ve covered the important things.
Marisa also continues the Street Fighter tradition of being a character informed by knowing about one and a half things about a country and then turning the personality slider either all the way up (Zangief) or all the way down (everyone else but especially Ryu). She’s meant to mix together some ideas of Greek and Roman mythology and history in a character who can be best described as a very muscular Asterix comic, complete with the way that she, a woman, looks like a different species to those around her. The character is very much a ‘romantic’ in that she wants to marry everyone who excites her, man and woman, and blurs together Latin and Greek words in her moves. When she’s done beating her opponent up, she m’ladies them off the screen in a polite display, and the character projects this selfserious air of command, where sure, she beat you up, but also, now she may be marrying you. Or something like that.
And look, I know I’m talking some smack here but just because I have nothing but overwhelming disdain for the borderline racist character design philosophy of Street Fighter, I bear no ill will to Marisa here. She is a delightfully exaggerated superhuman, a goofy half-drawn sketch of a design made by someone who had the bravery, the courage to say ‘I don’t really know much about this subject, but damnit, I’m not going to let that stop me, nor am I going to let it spur me on to doing any research.’ Marisa is not defined by her story, in the broad ‘here is how it starts, develops, and ends’ way, but rather the way she bops from encounter to encounter within the violent comedy sitcom of Street Fighter 6‘s b-plots. She’s finding people she wants to fight, because she loves to fight, and she loves the people she can fight with, men, women and even… you.
Glossary Note: Conventionally, the term used in D&D for this mechanical package is race. This is the typical term, and in most conversations about this game system, the term you’re going to wind up using is race. For backwards compatibility and searchability, I am including this passage here. The term I use for this player option is heritage.
The Basics
Overwhelmingly, Marisa is going to be using the multiclass feat Master of the Fist to get access to the Monk unarmed combatant feature, proficient in ki focuses. This is how you can guarantee you’ll be a punchy fighty tall lady. What heritage you pick is going to be flexible around the ability scores you want and what ability scores you want?
Well uh
Strength, probably.
I mean uh.
You know what, let’s talk about Multi Attribute Dependencies.
Fighting games are games that want to represent a character in a tiny window of what they can do. Any given character is cooked down to a small handful of rules about how they move and a few optional abilities. It’s not even ‘how is this character at fighting’ but rather ‘how is this character at fighting in this particular dimension in a learnable way.’ If nothing else, there are some fight game characters who can’t use a gun, which is something pretty important to modern ways of fighting. To this end, you can throw everything you want in the parts of a character’s life that has nothing to do with fighting and it doesn’t change anything. Ryu is a homeless person with combat autism and M Bison owns a multinational corporation and crime syndicate, and those two characters can meet on the battlefield without any discrepancy because all that matters is how well they punch each other with the buttons.
What that means is that when you take these kinds of characters and consider them in the context of an open, complex-interaction world like Dungeons & Dragons (4th edition), in a system that’s meant to deliberately constrain what characters can do in order to ask players to think in terms of parties and specialisations. Turns out you can’t just start out with an international crime syndicate in your back pocket. And this runs down to the ability scores, where a character has six scores that they need to consider in terms of their value to expressing that character.
The thing is, if you look at Marisa as a character in the original text you can make a great case for the fact she should be good at, basically, everything. Sure, she’s not as nimble or dextrous as she is tough or strong, and she might not be a genius, but she has a deeply insightful view of life and relationships, and a personal charisma that lets her roll into people’s lives and express herself immensely. Basically, the only thing she’s not openly good at is book smarts, and even that’s pushing it because this is a woman with a knowledge of art history and historical metalcraft, which are things you don’t just get for free in cereal boxes.
There are plenty of ways to handle this, by the way. Ability scores, ostensibly, are not to necessarily represent what you can do but rather how the person you are expresses itself in ways the games recognise. It’s possible to have a deep awareness of a specific history with training in a skill, and for the rest of your ‘intelligence’ to be wrapped up in that one specific field of study. It’s possible to even diminish an ability like ‘strength’ in the name of increasing something like constitution because in many fights, the ability to push through a hit and score hits is just as likely as being strong enough to push your fists through people’s guards.
This is what we call multiple attribute dependency. Coined a hojillion years ago to discuss the psionics of 3rd edition, it was meant to be an example of a fundamental problem with the class design, where to make a character capable of using the spells, you needed high stats not in an ability, but all of them. This was bad and it sucked. It’s less of a problem here, though, because you don’t need high stats in everything, but you do need to make a choice about what part of Marisa appeals to you the most.
Build 1 — The Brawler Fighter
Probably heritage here is the Goliath, because the ability scores you value are Strength and Wisdom.
I try to always start these things with an as simple as possible pop-the-box-open and go for it character build. To that end, you get an immediately easy build with a level 1 Goliath Fighter who values Strength and Wisdom, and then just picks up fighter abilities that work with that. Take powers that move your opponents, and spend your time grabbing, punching and throwing people. You use an unarmed attack which means you’re getting the full bonus from your Unarmed Combatant feature, and you’re always keeping a hand empty.
Build 2 — The Proud Cavalier
Heritage represents a modest problem here, in that if you go this route, you probably want Strength and Charisma, and that means you probably want either Vryloka (not much support worth having that fits the theme) or Dragonborn (which look like dragons). You can negotiate which of those two options appeals less. If you’re not that concerned about boosting both your important ability scores, you could take the Tiefling route, and, if that’s interesting to you, you can get a little weird with it and take the feat Wrath of the Crimson Legion. At that point, you’re a Charisma-attacking fist-fighter tank whose power riders care about your Charisma, which collapses all the multi-attribute dependency, but also, if you look at a picture of Marisa and think ‘oh, I can junk my strength stat now’ I think you probably don’t actually want what Marisa is bringing to the party. Mechanically, this is cool. Thematically it isn’t on the same planet as her.
Cavaliers are weird. They’re weird because, thanks to drawing on the pool of powers and feats available to the Paladin, they’re quite strong despite being Essentials classes. Plus, they have a lot of power bound up in the mounted companion element, which if you take it, could be something you use to play into the legionnaire element of Marisa. It adds supernaturalism to it, it drives a charismatic edge to the character, and, just, paladins have more stuff to work with. If you want a build that gives you a lot of interesting tools that each are applicable in different ways, Cavaliers are really good.
But it is going to involve coming up with an explanation for how these elements fit together for your Marisa. Basically, if the thing you think that’s most important about Marisa is charismatic brawler, this is where you start, but then you have to answer a bunch of questions afterwards.
Build 3 — The Zippy Battlemind
Heritage here wants Constitution and either Wisdom or Charisma, depending on if you want to play a more debuffing or tough battlemind. Wisdom for toughness, Charisma if you want to debuff. Both Half-Elves and Muls are perfect choices, though I’d suggest the Mul has more of the ‘big and tough’ vibe. Plus they can pick up Dwarf feats, which include some cute tricks in Paragon.
This is the option to go for if what you like about Marisa the most is her insightful wisdom coupled with her super armours that let you walk through attacks. The Battlemind is a class that maximises other people’s turns; after level 7, as a Battlemind, you almost certainly will never be spending your turn doing things only on your own turn. It can have the energy of a character exploiting openings, a fight game character who is really good at seeing windows of opportunity and punching you to ruin your plans.
Junk Drawer
All three of these builds assume you want a Marisa who is a powerful melee defender, because that’s the vibe I get out of this character. I can’t imagine a way to make a leader out of her that doesn’t feel like it’s missing something, and a controller is also at odds with her vibes. But if you want to play a non-defender Marisa, you could go for the Monk itself, and the Ranger can ‘twin strike’ with two punches just as readily as with two swords.
Conclusion
Fighting games are able to represent characters in a particular way. Marisa has a complexity to her that makes her an interesting character to think about and underneath that there’s a ridiculousness that doesn’t need explaining. In this write-up I focused on trying to cover a vibe of a character that didn’t violate the things about her we see, while recognising a complexity in opportunity.
The thing is, Marisa is also just a big chunky lady with silly hair and a tiny head. You can just take her look and use it for anything you find satisfying. There’s nothing saying that to play a character, to play your way of Marisa-ness, you have to do what I’m suggesting here. Remember: This is about showing options in a play space in a game that’s renowned for being limited in its distinctive options.

ALL of La Fayette’s Grandchildren
(This post discusses the death and loss of children)
While four children are still pretty easy to keep track of, La Fayette’s abundance of grandchildren can be quite confusing. You often see the following graphic, published in Jules Germain Cloquet’s book:
Tumblr media
Jules Germain Cloquet, Recollections of the Private Life of General Lafayette, Baldwin and Cradock, London, 1835, p. 227.
All fine and dandy, but I was looking for more detailed information and I wanted to include the children that had already died by the time Cloquet publishes his book – I therefor made a graphic of my own. :-)

I am tempted to make one for the great-grandchildren as well, since La Fayette was very exited to become a Great-Grandfather – but this one was already a wild ride and La Fayette had more great-grandchildren then grand-children, let me tell you.
Anyway, some names are written in italics, these are the names the individuals commonly went by. I find it funny to see that all of Virginie’s children went by their second name, just like Virginie herself mostly just used her second name. Anastasie’s second child has an Asterix to her name. I have only once seen the name spelled out, on the certificate of baptism. The twins were baptized in Vianen (modern day Netherlands) and the name on the document was the Germanic spelling “Maria Victorina” – I used what I assumed is the best French spelling of the name.
The dates in bold indicate that the corresponding documentation of the birth/marriage/death can be found in the archives.
Anastasie and Charles: Finding Célestine’s dead twin sister was actually a surprise for me since I have never before seen her being mentioned. Anastasie gave birth for the first time in a town near Utrecht in what today are the Netherlands. The achieves there still have the certificate of baptism (on February 30, was the clerk sloppy or did the region in 1799 adhere to a different calendar style where February could have more then 29 days?) and we can very clearly see that there were too children. By May 9, 1799, La Fayette wrote to George Washington and referred to only one grand-child:
My wife, my daughters, and Son in law, join in presenting their affectionate respects to Mrs Washington & to you my dear g[ener]al the former is recovered & sets out for france on monday next with Virginia—our little grand Daughter [Célestine] is well, will your charming one accept our tender regard?

I suspect that Anastasie had a stillbirth around August/September of 1801. La Fayette mentioned in a letter to Thomas Jefferson on June 21, 1801:
Anastasia Will Before long Make me Once More a Grand Father

There is no mention of this child being born and both the achieves in Paris and Courpalay yield no information so that it is unlikely that the child was born and then died young. Georges’ daughter died very young and she still is in the archives. Given La Fayette’s wording we can assume that Anastasie’s pregnancy was already somewhat advanced and the term miscarriage is only used up until the 20th week of a pregnancy, after that it is considered a stillbirth.
Georges and Emilie: The couple lost at least one daughter, Léontine Emilie, young, aged just four weeks. La Fayette wrote in a letter to Thomas Jefferson on February 20, 1807:
My family are pretty well and beg to be most affectionately respectfully and gratefully presented to you—We expected a Boy to be called after your name—But little Tommy has again proved to be a Girl [Léontine Emilie].

La Fayette later wrote to James Madison on June 10, 1807:
We Have Had the Misfortune to Loose a female Child of His, four Weeks old [Léontine Emilie]. My Younger daughter Virginia Has Lately presented us With an other infant of the Same Sex [Marie Pauline]. My Wife’s Health is Not Worse at this Moment, But Ever too Bad.

As a sidenote because it confused me while searching for the letter; the archives list Adrienne as the author. I am certain that is wrong because a) Adrienne was not corresponding with James Madison, b) this is not her writing style but La Fayette’s, c) the letter does not have her typical signature and d) there is the passage about the authors wife’s health – this one at the least gives it away.
Identifying Léontine Emilie was actually quite a bit of luck as well. I found the letter to Madison by accident and that letter is the only source that mentions her that I know of. I have never seen her in any other letters, documentation, contemporary or secondary books. The letter helped to narrow her birthday and her date of death down and with that information I searches the archives in Paris and Courpalay in the hopes of finding the child – and I was lucky. While I of course understand the order of things, it still saddens me to see that you can be born into such a prominent family – your father was a Marquis, your grand-father was the Marquis, and still, not even your families biographers care to even mention you.
Virginie und Louis: For all I know, and I again have to say that I have not nearly as much data/correspondence as I would like with regard to these topics, Virginie never lost a child. There is always the question what La Fayette would feel comfortable telling and to whom. There is also the question if La Fayette himself was always aware of everything. For example, in the case of a miscarriage very early on in the pregnancy he might have not included it in his correspondence or in fact maybe not even known himself.
As much as would wish a happy family life for Virginie, stillbirths, infant deaths and especially miscarriages were and still are not uncommon.
I have put excerpts from a few more letters by La Fayette to his American friends under the cut that help identify his grandchildren.
La Fayette to Thomas Jefferson, June 4, 1803:
I am Here, with my Wife, Son, daughter in law, and New Born little grand daughter [Natalie Renée Émilie] taking Care of my Wounds, and Stretching My Rusted Articulations untill I can Return to my Beloved Rural Abode at La Grange.
