EPL: Saka on target as Arsenal beat struggling Sheffield United 2-1 | Football News
Arsenal scored two goals in four minutes to grab a 2-1 Premier League home win over struggling Sheffield United, with Bukayo Saka and Nicolas Pepe getting on the scoresheet in the second half as the Gunners’ misfiring attack finally found its rhythm. Sheffield United were without new signing Rhian Brewster, whose registration wasn’t completed in time for the fixture, and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta chose to start with striker Alexandre Lacazette on the bench. There was early drama as Arsenal’s David Luiz pulled Oliver Burke’s shirt when he was through on goal after a loose pass. The Brazilian defender should count himself lucky not to have been red-carded, as the referee appeared to miss the incident entirely. The best chances of the first half fell to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who unleashed a wicked dipping shot that was tipped over the crossbar by Aaron Ramsdale, and he followed up with an acrobatic bicycle kick just before halftime that was comfortably saved. The visitors frustrated Arsenal for the first hour, but Saka broke the deadlock by heading home following a snappy passing move in the 61st minute. “I don’t get a lot of headers, but this one, it came so perfectly to me, I had to put it in,” a beaming Saka, who received his first call-up to the senior England squad earlier in the week, told Sky Sports. Substitute Nicolas Pepe added a second three minutes later, and though Irish striker David McGoldrick gave his side hope with a brilliant curling effort in the 84th minute, Arsenal held on for a win that lifts them to fourth place in the table on nine points, three behind leaders Everton. Sheffield United sit down at 19th after four defeats in their opening four league games.

England U21s squad named for Slovenia and Austria games
TICKETS: ENGLAND U21S V AUSTRIA
England MU21s continue their season in October, with Aidy Boothroyd naming a 23-man squad for games against Slovenia and Austria.
The Young Lions head to Maribor for a match against the 2021 U21 EURO host nation on Friday 11 October, before heading back home to resume their qualifying campaign against Austria in Milton Keynes on Tuesday 15 October.
And head coach Boothroyd has been boosted by the addition of Chelsea pair Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi and AFC Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly, who all missed September’s games through injury.
There’s also a first U21s call-up for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brandon Austin, while the majority of the squad who picked up impressive victories over Turkey and Kosovo in September are involved again.
“After two good results in difficult and high-pressure games last month, we’ve kept the squad pretty consistent as they performed well,” explained Boothroyd.
“We have a few players back from injury in Callum Hudson-Odoi, Reece James and Lloyd Kelly and we’re looking forward to getting back together again and we are building a strong core of players early on in the campaign.
“The squad also has more playing minutes at club level than they might normally do at this stage of the season, which is great for us ahead of these matches.
The U21s line-up ahead of their victory over Kosovo in Hull last month
“It will be a tough game in Slovenia, we are expecting a low block that will be a good test for our players against a different type of opponent.  As they’re one of the hosts of the next Euros, it’s a great chance for us to experience playing there, as we work hard to qualify for the tournament.
“Austria sit on top of the qualifying group alongside us and they’re a good, well-organised team and an emerging nation, so hopefully it will be an entertaining and competitive game for our supporters watching in Milton Keynes.
“The group is shaping up to have three or four teams pushing to qualify so we have to do everything properly and professionally and be at our best each game, but it will also be invaluable to the players’ development.”
Tickets for the game at stadiummk are on sale priced £1 for children (U16) and with an adult early bird ticket available at £10 until 19 August (Standard ticket £15). Concessions (under 22 and over 65) are available at £5 and Charter Standard and group booking discounts also apply.

The key players to look out for in England’s exciting new Under-21 squad
England under-21s suffered frustration in the summer when they were knocked out of the European Championship in the group stage, but now
Only six members of Aidy Boothroyd & # 39; s team for qualifying matches outside of Turkey and home to Kosovo played before for the Young Lions.
Numerous names, from Oliver Skipp and Marc Guehi to Jonathan Panzo, give Boothroyd's side a new lease of life, but there are some seriously talented names that come through the age groups.
Here's a look at some of the key players to look forward to as England begins the long road to the 2021 euro that will take place in Hungary and Slovenia.
England Under 21 coach Aidy Boothroyd has a largely looking team to call
Phil Foden
Position: Midfielder
Age: 19
Club: Manchester City
England Under-21 caps: Nine (one goal)
There are some suggestions that Foden should be speeded up to the English senior team, but for now it seems the right decision ng for the extremely talented midfielder to develop further with the Under-21s.
Foden gave a demonstration of his quality with an excellent goal against France in the summer but has seen only ten minutes of playing time for City in the Premier League so far this season – despite being described by Pep Guardiola as the & # 39; most talented player & # 39; he ever encountered. High praise from a man who could count Lionel Messi among his most important players in Barcelona.
These matches give a player who is perhaps England's best prospect the chance to show his credentials again.
Phil Foden is the jewel in the crown for England under -21s and will be excited to impress again
Eddie Nketiah
Position: Striker
Age: 20
Club: Leeds (on loan from Arsenal)
England Under-21 caps: four (two goals)
The Nketiah's record for England's youth-level goal is remarkable – he just missed it 21 times in 25 games from the Under-17s.
The fleet-footed attacker has given the season well on loan to Leeds, scoring three goals in five games, and now wants to get a step closer to achieving his goal of entering the English team.
Nketiah could have accepted this season that he was a team for Arsenal, but it is an indication of his determination to improve that he was chosen to test himself in the championship instead.
Eddie Nketiah on loan to Leeds has an excellent goal-record for England at youth level
Aaron Ramsdale
Position: Goalkeeper [1945903]
Age: 21
Club: Bournemouth
England Under-21 caps: One
Ramsdale has participated in all Premier League games of Bournemouth so far this season and could now becoming the first choice goalkeeper for England under 21s.
The shotgun stopper was released by Bolton when he was 15, but it certainly succeeded in bouncing back on that disappointment.
With impressive reflexes, he previously played for England on Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 levels.
Aaron Ramsdale will be confident after playing in the Premier League for Bournemouth
Reiss Nelson
Position: Winger
Age: 19
Club: Arsenal
England Under-21 caps: Six (three goals)
Nelson has long been considered an extremely exciting prospect and showed a glimpse of his undisputed quality during a loan period at Hoffenheim last season.
Now back in Arsenal, he has two Premier League playing this campaign and will gain considerably more experience.
With his flair and directness, Nelson is able to harass opposing defenses.
Reiss Nelson has gained loan experience at Hoffenheim and is ready to to push in this season
Mason Greenwood
Position: Forward
Age: 17
Club: Manchester United
England Under-21 caps: None
One of the new faces in England under -21 team, Greenwood has played a role this season in all Premier League games of Manchester United.
Amazed at playing above his age group, the attacker is the youngest p low in this team, after all, is one of the most talented.
On the spit of really settling into the first team of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Norweigan has already described him as a & # 39; more natural finisher & # 39; then Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
There is a lot of competition for places on the Boothroyd side, but Greenwood can quickly become an important figure on this level.
Despite being only 17 years old , Mason Greenwood has already been named among the under-21s
Max Aarons
Position: Rear Right
[1945902] Age: 19
Club: Norwich
England Under-21 caps: None
Despite that it is only 19 years old, Aarons is approaching 50 senior performances for Norwich.
The reliable right back has quickly adapted to the Premier League and is now ready to go onto the international stage for the Under-21 & # 39; s
Aarons faces a battle for a berth with James Justin from Leicester, who is also very talented, but the Norwich player will be hopefully selected.
Norwich defends Max Aarons will hope to become a major player for England Under-21s
Morgan Gibbs-White
Position: Midfielder [1945903]
Age: 19
Club: Wolves
England Under-21 caps: One
A pony member of the Under-21 team in In the summer, Gibbs-White should now take greater responsibility for the young lions.
Gibbs-White is a great passer-by who has already had many chances for top-level Wolves.
Playing in the Europa League this season is likely to accelerate development.
Highly regarded wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White is another talented player
Trevoh Chalobah
Position: Defender / Midfielder
Club: Huddersfield (19459011) loan from Chelsea)
England Under-21 caps: None
Chalobah was mentioned as a defense in the official squadron announcement, but is now often used as a midfielder at club level
After last having spent the season on loan in Ipswich, he has started well for Huddersfiel d this campaign so far.
Breaking in the Chelsea side in the long run can be difficult, but Chalobah can be a key figure for the English under-21 side.
Chelsea midfielder Trevoh Chalobah enjoys a loan against Huddersfield
Rhian Brewster
Position: Forward
Age: 19
Club: Liverpool
England Under-21 caps: None
After enduring a lot of frustration with injuries, it's now time for Brewster to start his kickstart career at both club and international level.
So far he has not been able to find this campaign for Liverpool, but should get a chance for England under the 21s.
Part of the English team that won the Under-17 World Cup in 2017, and he scored an incredible 20 goals in 23 games at that level.
Rhian Brewster has many accidents with injuries sustained but is ready to get back on track
Tom Davies
Position: Midfielder
Age: 21
Club: Everton
England Under-21 caps: 12 (one goal)
Davies plays for England Under-21s since 2017, has played 76 teams in the Premier League and is one of the oldest players in the plow.
He has dropped the pecking order in Everton and is determined to demonstrate confirm that he can still have a hugely successful career.
This international break can help restore Davies confidence and get him back on track.
Tom Davies of Everton is determined to show that he is still able to fulfill his potential

Ex-Hatter Justin named in the England U21 squad for Euro qualifiers
Ex-Hatter James Justin has been called up to the England U21s squad for the first time in his career.
The 21-year-old, who joined Leicester City in the summer, will join up with his team-mates for the Euro qualifying campaign next month.
The Young Lions kick-off their group fixtures with a trip to Turkey on Friday, September 6 September, before they head home to play Kosovo in Hull three days later.
Justin, who has played for the England U20s, while also being selected for the England U19s as well, made 114 appearances for the Hatters during his time at Kenilworth Road, scoring six times.
Three Lions head coach Aidy Boothroyd said: “I’m really excited by this new group of players and when I look at the squad we have put together, it’s very encouraging to see that so many of them have been playing regular football in the Premier League already this season.
“The more English players that we see playing regularly in the Premier League, the better, so all of the England coaches are really pleased about that.
“It’s always an interesting, and busy, camp when we come together for the first time ahead of a new campaign.
“There’s no doubt it’s a tough start to the campaign for us, facing the top two, but we had the same last time round and it worked out.
“We’ve watched a lot of them, they’re quite similar in how they play and we’re expecting real threats from set-pieces and from counter-attacks.
“It won’t be easy but if we can go into the October fixtures with a good amount of points on the board then we’ll be pleased.
“Of course our biggest priority is player development and getting them ready for the senior side. It’s been particularly pleasing to see three of the players that were with at the Euros this summer be called up into Gareth Southgate’s squad and we’ll work with every individual in this group to give them the chance of doing the same.”
Squad
Goalkeepers: Ellery Balcombe (Brentford), Aaron Ramsdale (AFC Bournemouth), Nathan Trott (AFC Wimbledon, loan from West Ham United).
Defenders: Max Aarons (Norwich City), Trevoh Chalobah (Huddersfield Town, loan from Chelsea), Ben Godfrey (Norwich City), Marc Guehi (Chelsea), James Justin (Leicester City), Jonathan Panzo (AS Monaco), Steven Sessegnon (Fulham), Ben Wilmot (Swansea City, loan from Watford).

England U21s squad named for Turkey and Kosovo games

England U21s kick-off their new U21 EURO qualifying campaign this month, as the road to Hungary and Slovenia in 2021 begins.
The Young Lions kick-off their group fixtures with a trip to Turkey on Friday 6 September, before they head home to play Kosovo in Hull three days later.
U21s’ September schedule
UEFA European U21 Championship
Qualifying Group 3
v Turkey, 3pm, Friday 6 September, Recep Tayyip Erdogan Stadi
v Kosovo, 6.45pm, Monday 9 September, KCOM Stadium, Hull
And head coach Aidy Boothroyd has named his squad for the games, with a new, 23-strong group coming together for the first time at U21 level.
Four players in Tom Davies, Morgan Gibbs-White and Reiss Nelson featured in the previous U21 EURO campaign and are young enough to go again this time.
There’s also a wealth of age-group experience throughout the squad, with only Reading midfielder Omar Richards coming into the England set-up for the first time.
And Boothroyd has been impressed by the number of players in his squad who have been playing first-team football with their clubs in the early stages of this season.
“I’m really excited by this new group of players and when I look at the squad we have put together, it’s very encouraging to see that so many of them have been playing regular football in the Premier League already this season,” said Boothroyd.
“The likes of Reece James and Lloyd Kelly have been unfortunate to pick up injuries, as it’s likely that they would also have been in the squad too.
“The more English players that we see playing regularly in the Premier League, the better, so all of the England coaches are really pleased about that.
“It’s always an interesting, and busy, camp when we come together for the first time ahead of a new campaign.
