In honor to where we (Ever Green Cloth family) come from, and many of our followers and family members, let's celebrate our heritage. 💚 National Hispanic Heritage Month traditionally honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans as we celebrate heritage rooted in all Latin American countries. During this month and throughout the year, the National Park Service and our partners, share history, heritage, and accomplishments of Hispanic and Latino Americans of past and present. - - - #hispanicheritage #hispanicheritagemonth #hispanicsbelike #latinosbelike #hispanic #latinos #orgullolatino #soylatino #somoslatinos #soylatina #latinopride #empoweringlatinos #latino #usa #latinosunidos #latina #latinpower #latinosstandup #latinaentrepreneur #latinosinamerica ##latinx (at San Diego, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUF3Pkrptdx/?utm_medium=tumblr

In my past life, before kids and catamarans, I was a television news anchor and reporter. Back then, my career was everything to me and I spent years chasing those broardcasting dreams. Now, as so many in the world are learning how to be anti-racist allies and take on broken systems, I was asked to share some of the hard lessons I learned as a biracial woman working at TV stations around the country. There were many painful parts but I wouldn't change my journey if I had it all to do over again. I believe those struggles were actually gifts which made me who I am today.
If you find value in this article, I would be very grateful if you could share it with your network. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read it.

How to Tame a Wild Tongue
In the article “How to Tame a Wild Tongue” while reading the article I could connect with the author over everything because I’m a Latina and I understand what she is saying. So it was difficult for me to choose a quote to connect, but I have two quotes that I would like to talk about.
“Hocicona, repelona, chismosa, having a big mouth, questioning, carrying tales are all signs of being mal criada. In my culture they are all words that are derogatory if applied to women— I’ve never heard them applied to men.”
When I first read this qoute, I started agreeing with the author because it’s true what she’s saying. The women have a different role in the culture because for the male they can go out and have a girlfriend or even do things that women aren’t allowed. For the women they can’t go out, can’t have a boyfriend until 18 above, they are limited to do things because when they do something the ordinary they are considered mal criada. For example something that was the ordinary was when I started going out in the afternoon because I play volleyball from 7:15 pm through 11:30pm. At first my parents made a fuss about it but they realized that they can’t stop me what I enjoy to do. But for my family from my mother side would always comment that it’s not okay of me being out late, especially since I’m a women and what would other people thought about me. It upset me because I’m being proactive and it seems something “bad” for the other people because of my gender, if it was a man who was staying up late it’s okay for them but not a women. Women and man don’t have the same equality or they get criticized fast for their actions.
“ Pocho, cultural traitor, you’re speaking the oppressor’s language by speaking English, you’re ruining the Spanish language.”
The first time I ever heard the word Pocho was recently when I was Juarez visiting my step sister. I started talking with her in Spanish and then I used some words in English to finished my sentenced. She told me that I was those kind of people a Pocho, I asked what it meant because I never heard it before. She said speaking Spanish and English combine and yes I combine the both language because sometimes I couldn’t say a word in a language so I would say it the other language so the person who was with me they would understand what I was saying. But now reading that it’s cultural traitor, those two words kept bugging me the whole day because I don’t want to be a cultural traitor.
What Gloria Anzaldûa is trying to say about her relationship to identity and culture that the language she speaks it’s what identify herself. There is so many different ways that people speak Spanish but it’s the same thing. The language and the culture it’s what makes the people feel like home and it creates environment for the people.

SOY LATINA
