We'd like to take a moment to thank the #AmericanLibraryAssociation for acknowledging what library administrations are failing to see. While most people view #libraries as #quietplaces to study or access computers, the #publiclibrary doubles as a homeless shelter and safe haven for the mentally ill. I never thought I'd see the day where #librarians and support staff would have to #defendbooks and ward off threats of being killed. When ye #speakoutforlibraries, be sure to impart the part where they render #mentalhealthfirstaid in addition to dispensing #museumpasses, #socialservices, and #readersadvisory. When we say #reimagineyourlibrary, we're quietly stating #thingsdonechanged. Simple and plain, #THISAINTYOURGRANNYSLIBRARY! #AskALibrarian, it's time to #thinkbeyondthebooks and staff a #socialworker at #thelibrary. For #mypoemsarenotpoems, I'm just here to let it be known: when #publiclibraries establish partnerships with a #psychologist and a #psychiatrist, they'll change the game. I mean, why should #publiclibrary workers endure eye-opening mental and emotional strain at the hands of those struggling with #mentalillness at the library? How many times must we witness a #mentalbreakdown before we see the need to develop #bibliotherapy partnerships at the library? And to my people livin' #datlibrarylife, professionalism does not mean you must passively accept threats to your personal and professional well-being; you are not a punching bag for patrons in the library. Public service does not equate to the acceptance of hate; you do not have to tolerate verbal abuse or subdue your #corebeliefs for some stranger. Your work environment does not render you liable to the dangers of #displacedanger. Each #BookGroup Take-Out kit contains 10 - 12 copies of the #book and a #bookdiscussionguide that includes: tips for running a #bookdiscussion, background information on the author, a summary of the book, and discussion questions. The kits can be checked out for a period of eight weeks. Renewals are not allowed and you are limited to two kits checked-out at one time. There is no charge to check out a kit, but if they are returned late, incomplete or damaged, fines and fees will apply. Book Group Kits are sponsored by the Friends of the Library groups.
