I've figured out the You’re Almost Home Timeline so for the gang who care about the passage of time it's under the cut.
Firstly, I have chosen to totally ignore the gravestone dates because of Reasons, including "okay look I started writing this when it wasn't on streaming and this is mostly so it makes sense to me" and "time is an illusion I just need to know this so I can say what year it'll be on NYE". Felix has a January birthday in my little canon and nobody can stop me.
So let's go!
2007
Felix is in Expensive Rehab Facility until Christmas. Sir James and Lady Elspeth have pulled a lot of strings to make sure that Felix's accident won't impact him in any way, shape or form. This mostly means getting him an expensive tutor and essentially permission to submit all of his work online. No need for tutorials because he's had a hard time and is a very special boy. Felix takes this chance to essentially do as much work while he's stuck in the facility as he can because there's fuck all else to do, and he's being made to quit smoking so he's mad about that. Farleigh's back as if he never left, and Venetia is being an absolute rock.
Oliver returns to Oxford, makes contact with the Student Counselling Services, and throws himself into studying so hard it hurts. He needs to distract himself. They allow him to switch tutors and move to a different dorm where he turns into a studying hermit. If he sees any of the Alpha Hotties, he hides. He becomes invisible again, even more than before. His new tutor helps him switch to an accelerated degree program.
2008
Felix turns 21 and does the Spring and Summer terms. His parents decide to go on a tour of Europe to celebrate Felix getting back on the horse. They also know he's going to graduate, because the Special Little Boy measures are in place for him so all he has to really do is log on to Moodle and submit one of his pre-written essays every so often. He's burned a few bridges because he's being very twattish. Felix decides to sack off Christmas term and heads to Bali in late July/early August. Sir James has made sure he has internet access, so what's the point of even being in Oxford? He meets Lucia, who is 18 and on her Gap Year. Because it's the end of the summer, there aren't many options, so Felix sticks with her. Harry is part of the group from maybe like... week three? Luckily, Lucia is on a cleanse, so although they're partying, she isn't drinking or indulging in anything else. In November, Lu gets food poisoning- or so they think, until the doctor Felix hauls her to gives them the news. Felix contacts his parents in a hurry, and they are flown back to the UK and subjected to a major parental conference. Felix proposes to Lu at a Catton Christmas party.
Oliver graduates early. He doesn't go home for the holidays, saying he needs to keep studying. He decides on teaching because it won't be sustainable to be a student forever. His tutor is a major help; he's from Newcastle, although you wouldn't know it because his accent has long since faded and has taken Oliver under his wing. He remains Oliver's main advisor throughout his studies and is probably the reason he gets the job- he's keeping an eye on him so he knows there'll be a Northern Lad Professor once he eventually retires. They're not exactly friends, but there's a lot of mutual respect there.
2009
Felix turns 22 and marries Lu shortly after. He briefly returns to Oxford, but mostly to make sure he graduates. Harry is born in on the 10th of April and he gets his degree in absentia. Lu gets pregnant with Ru maybe a little too soon afterwards, and Rufus is born prematurely on the 27th of November. Oopsie.
2010
Oliver gets his Masters degree in english literature.
2011
Sir James dies of a heart attack in May.
2013
Ellie is born on the 1st of August. Felix gets a vasectomy.
2014
Oliver gets his PhD. His thesis was titled "Narrative Accessibility and Diversity within Academia".
2015
Lady Elspeth passes away in her sleep.
Then a bit of a time jump until
2020
Oliver is finally an associate professor after being in postdoc for 6 years.
Farleigh finally hits on a startup that works- a designer resale app that offers item verification for an add-on fee. It's wildly successful, mostly because he's been hobnobbing in America hardcore and is getting a ton of celebrity endorsements.
2025
Venetia is diagnosed with lung cancer.
2026
Venetia passes away. Felix is bereft.
Harry gets her A level results and Oxford place, despite being 17- Lucia, having not got a degree herself, is adamant that her children be highly educated as fast as possible... and Harry will turn 18 in her first year anyway. Harry doesn't mind this, as she has a fake ID and cannot wait to be away from boring boarding schools.
Oliver Quick receives an email notifying him that, amongst others, he will be tutoring Harriet Catton.
And then Felix Catton walks into his office, and they proceed to go bonkers.

Grok 2, the latest iteration of xAI's large language model, has made significant strides in the field of artificial intelligence. The model's training process is a testament to the company's commitment to innovation and its ability to push the boundaries of what is possible with AI technology.
The training of Grok 2 involves a multi-stage process that leverages xAI's proprietary dataset of over 12 terabytes of daily data, which includes a wide range of formats such as text, images, and audio[2]. This diverse dataset allows the model to gain a deeper understanding of the world and the context surrounding various events and interactions.
One of the key features of Grok 2's training is the use of reinforcement learning from human feedback[2]. By incorporating feedback from users, the model is able to continuously improve its responses and generate more accurate and relevant information. This approach not only enhances the model's performance but also ensures that it remains aligned with human values and preferences.
Another important aspect of Grok 2's training is its ability to handle real-time data[2]. Unlike other language models that rely on static datasets, Grok 2 is designed to process and learn from constantly evolving information. This allows the model to stay up-to-date with current events and provide users with the most relevant and timely information possible.
The training of Grok 2 also involves fine-tuning the model on specific tasks and domains[2]. By focusing on areas such as question-answering, task completion, and open-ended conversation, the model is able to develop specialized skills and knowledge that make it more effective in real-world applications.
Grok 2 outperforms GPT-3.5 across various benchmarks, showcasing its advanced capabilities. For instance, Grok-1 achieved scores of 62.9% on the GSM8k math benchmark and 73% on MMLU, surpassing GPT-3.5's performance in these areas. Grok-1.5 further improved these scores, nearing GPT-4 levels, with Grok-1.5 scoring 90% on GSM8k and 74.1% on HumanEval, while GPT-3.5 scored 57.1% and 48.1%, respectively. Grok's real-time data access and efficient training process also give it an edge, although it still lags behind GPT-4 and Claude 2 in some metrics [1][2][4][5].
Overall, the training of Grok 2 represents a significant advancement in the field of AI and showcases xAI's commitment to developing cutting-edge technology that can positively impact society. As the model continues to evolve and improve, it is likely to play an increasingly important role in shaping the future of artificial intelligence.

The Ultimate Guide to Part-Time Online Professor Jobs
The rise of digital education has opened up numerous opportunities for educators. Among these opportunities, part-time online professor jobs have become increasingly popular. These positions offer flexibility, the ability to work from anywhere, and a chance to engage with diverse student populations. Whether you are an experienced educator or someone looking to transition into academia, this guide will help you understand the landscape of part-time online professor jobs and how to secure one.
Understanding Part-Time Online Professor Jobs
What Are Part-Time Online Professor Jobs?
Part time online professor jobs are teaching positions that involve delivering courses over the internet, typically for colleges and universities. These roles can be purely remote, allowing professors to teach from anywhere, or they might require occasional on-site visits. Unlike full-time positions, part-time roles do not usually come with a full set of benefits but offer a significant degree of flexibility.
Why Choose Part-Time Over Full-Time?
The appeal of part-time online professor jobs lies in their flexibility. These positions are ideal for those who want to balance teaching with other professional or personal commitments. For instance, a professional working in the industry might take on a part-time teaching role to share their expertise while maintaining their primary job. Additionally, these roles are perfect for retired educators who wish to stay engaged in teaching without committing to a full-time schedule.
How to Find Part-Time Online Professor Jobs
Job Boards and University Websites
One of the best places to start your search is on job boards dedicated to academic positions. Websites like HigherEdJobs, ChronicleVitae, and LinkedIn often list part-time online professor jobs. Additionally, university websites frequently post job openings on their career pages. Regularly checking these sources can help you stay updated on new opportunities.
Networking and Professional Associations
Networking is crucial in academia. Attending conferences, joining professional associations, and participating in academic forums can open doors to part-time teaching opportunities. Many academic professionals find positions through word-of-mouth or referrals, so maintaining a strong professional network is essential.
Adjunct Pools
Many universities maintain adjunct pools—databases of potential part-time instructors they can call upon as needed. Applying to be part of these pools can increase your chances of being hired when a position becomes available.
Preparing Your Application
Tailoring Your Resume and Cover Letter
When applying for part-time online professor jobs, it’s essential to tailor your resume and cover letter to highlight relevant experience. Emphasize your teaching experience, familiarity with online education platforms, and any special skills that make you a strong candidate for online teaching.
Showcase Your Online Teaching Skills
Experience with online education platforms like Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle is a significant plus. If you have previously taught online, be sure to highlight this experience. If you haven’t, consider taking courses or earning certifications in online teaching to bolster your qualifications.
Benefits and Challenges
Flexibility and Autonomy
One of the most significant benefits of part-time online professor jobs is the flexibility they offer. You can often set your own hours and work from anywhere, making it easier to balance teaching with other commitments. This autonomy can lead to a more balanced and satisfying work-life dynamic.
Challenges to Consider
However, part-time online teaching isn’t without its challenges. These roles often come with limited benefits, and the pay can vary widely. Additionally, online teaching requires strong self-discipline and excellent time management skills. Building rapport with students can also be more challenging in a virtual environment.
Exploring Assistant Professor Jobs
For those looking for more stability and a pathway to tenure, assistant professor jobs may be a better fit. These positions typically offer more job security, benefits, and opportunities for career advancement. However, they also come with higher expectations in terms of research, publishing, and service to the university.
Conclusion
Part-time online professor jobs offer a unique blend of flexibility and the opportunity to impact students’ lives through education. By understanding the landscape, leveraging job boards and networking, and preparing a strong application, you can secure a rewarding part-time teaching position. Whether you choose this path or aim for an assistant professor role, the key is to remain dedicated, adaptable, and passionate about teaching.

A Friendly Guide to MBA in HR Correspondence Courses
Tumblr media
Keen on upgrading your career with an MBA in HR correspondence courses? Well, juggling work, family, and personal development is something that a lot of people face in today's world. Flexibility and convenience join hands without degrading the quality of these courses. This guide will try to answer your most pressing queries and take you by the hand through what to expect to make the ride smoother.
Frequently Asked Questions and Concerns
Do I Have the Time?
The most common question on this front is whether it's possible to find time to study when your day is mostly filled with work commitments and family situations. The good news is that MBA in HR correspondence courses are so flexible that you can study at any time in the early morning or late night to suit your schedule.
Is it worth the investment?
A related question is whether it pays dividends. An online correspondence course for an MBA in HR is a big investment of both time and money. However, because the skills and knowledge learned are enhanced, it results more often than not in greater opportunities, promotions, and higher earning power, making it a very worthwhile endeavor.
Course Structure & Format: What to Expect
Study Material & e-Learning Platform
Printed Study Material & Textbook: One can receive printed textbooks and study guides to study in offline mode as well.
Learning Management Systems (LMS): Forums, assignments, and lectures are available through a learning management system like Moodle or Blackboard.
Videos & Webinars: You also get access to live sessions and recorded ones that you can access at your convenience.
Duration
Though these courses take around 2 to 3 years to complete, due to the flexibility of the pace, you can accelerate or decelerate them as per your rhythm and engagements.
MBA in HR Correspondence Course Syllabus
Core Courses
Here's a glimpse of what you would be learning:
Organizational Behavior: Individual Behavior and Team Behavior

Strategic Management: Formulation of Business strategies and how to implement them
Labor Laws: Familiarization with the essentials of the legal framework
Compensation & Benefits: How to arrive at an attractive pay package and benefits

Electives
Programs come with a selection of electives to specialize the learning according to the career desired:

Networking: Through forums, webinars, and group projects, all of which are done online, you can interact with other like-minded professionals, hence establishing a network of contacts.
Challenges
Management of time: Without a regular class schedule, procrastination may sometimes be a problem. Setting small goals each week helps stay focused.
Limited Face-to-Face Interaction: Virtual interaction is good but tends to lose the personal touch that in-class networking and mentorship provide
Technical Glitches: Loss of internet connectivity and outages of selected learning platforms are an agony. When that happens, you have to rely on a good internet network to stay on course in your education
Staying Motivated: Motivation is somewhat difficult to continue, especially when the workload is unmanageable. The 'Why' of work or the long-term career goal always motivates.
Summary
In short, flexibility, accessibility, and cost-effectiveness are what courses on MBAs in HR via correspondence bring to the forefront of an enhanced career. There are, however, difficulties associated with it, but the returns are surely worth the effort. So, by keeping yourself motivated and properly managing time, you can take maximum advantage of this educational voyage.

FINTECH LEARNING PLATFORM - Booking on Google?
For a fintech learning platform, using your Google Business Profile for bookings isn't the most direct or effective approach. Here's why, along with better alternatives:
Why Google Business Profile Bookings Aren't Ideal for Fintech Learning
Not designed for complex services: Google Business Profile booking functionality is geared towards simple appointments (like haircuts or restaurant reservations), not multi-session courses or subscription-based learning.
Limited information: You can't convey the details of your courses, pricing tiers, or any pre-requisites potential learners might need.
Payments: Google Business Profile bookings don't typically handle complex payment models (like installments or discounts) that fintech learning platforms often use.
Best Approaches for Booking Your Fintech Learning Platform
Direct Website Integration:
The gold standard: Have a "Book Now" or "Enroll" button prominently on your website that leads to a dedicated booking/enrollment page.
Showcase your courses: Provide clear course descriptions, schedules, pricing, and instructor bios.
Use a booking system: Integrate a booking platform (e.g., Calendly, Acuity Scheduling, or a custom solution) to handle scheduling and payments seamlessly.
Learning Management System (LMS):
Ideal for comprehensive programs: If you offer multiple courses or certifications, an LMS (e.g., Moodle, Thinkific, Teachable) is a powerful solution.
Course management: Organize your content, track learner progress, issue certificates, and handle payments all in one place.
Community building: Many LMS platforms offer discussion forums or social features to foster a learning community.
Third-Party Course Marketplaces:
Reach a wider audience: Consider listing your courses on platforms like Udemy, Coursera, or Skillshare.
Trade-off: You'll give up some control and potentially pay higher fees, but you'll gain exposure to a larger pool of potential learners.
Leveraging Your Google Business Profile
Promotion, not booking: Use your Google Business Profile to highlight your fintech learning platform, but direct users to your website or LMS for booking.
Post updates: Share announcements about new courses, special offers, or success stories to generate interest.
Add photos/videos: Show engaging visuals of your instructors, course materials, or learner testimonials to attract potential clients.
Answer questions: Respond promptly to inquiries about your courses to show you're responsive and knowledgeable.
Additional Tips
Optimize for mobile: Ensure your website and booking process are mobile-friendly, as many users will search and book on their phones.
Clear call to action (CTA): Make it obvious where and how potential learners can sign up.
Track your results: Use analytics to monitor which channels drive the most bookings and optimize your strategy accordingly.

Blog 6:Slides production and detail refinement
Tumblr media
After the research and ideas were in place and communicated to the group, we decided to start creating the slides, and for better "synchronization" we chose the platform Google Slides.
The group members worked together to complete the PowerPoint presentation, I think it is very important is the "logic chain", each person needs to summarise their own part of the research into several modules, and following the artefacts idea generation - the group members of the idea summary and refinement --Artefact production - Artefact publicity and promotion;
Therefore, I have listed a few suggestions for the presentation on Google Slides based on the different specializations of the group members and the work they have done, and regarding the template for group presentations given by Dr. Matt on Moodle:
These include:
·the order of presentations
·fixed language at the beginning and end
· The key points to be mentioned in the presentation
· A list of group study patterns
· What each person might include in his or her presentation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Figure 9&10&11 Screenshot of Google Slides - made by myself
And for me personally, I made the following content refinements while making it:
·extracted key data and examples from all the research I have done
·collect images and short videos
·minimize text
· The unity of the background color palette and the theme of the Slide production
·Going into detail: promotional and application video sections
Below is a video I independently produced and dubbed for New Forest's publicity and promotions:
The hedgehog is introduced as the first point of view, its friends are introduced in turn, and an interesting storytelling video is created by combining the different habits of the four animals in the New Forest, and ending with - welcome to The New Forest, which attracts and guides the audience to the next step of the virtual game interface.

The Brazilian government has this e-learning platform in which anyone can take free courses with valid certifications. It's running on Moodle but who cares about that besides people that have worked with e-learning before?
It also features free certificates and I need something to certify my Spanish so I enrolled on Basic Spanish (there's no placement test, so I can't just jump to Advanced and get that certification instead.)
Reader, there is nothing basic about this course.
The materials are fully written in Spanish, and not exactly in simple vocabulary.
The listening practice uses some really good voice actors but they weren't told to slow down.
The! Animations! I cannot stress enough that this course is set up as shitty barely formatted Moodle lessons that feel like a dude rambling at you and then there are these high-grade, fully plotted, professionally voice acted animations every once in a while.
There is a graded test every 2 lessons.
These tests expect you to know things that weren't explained in the course materials.
They do not explain those things afterwards, you're supposed to go and find out if you care.
The whole experience reminds me of taking classes with one of those extremely specialized professors that forget the students are showing up with 0 knowledge of the subject. Or that they're human. One of those.
Anyway I'd only ever recommend this to someone that already knows Spanish but if you do, hey, the animations are pretty.

Final Indesign Session
(I was away for this session, so all info is recovered from the recording and moodle)
Important concept:
Parent pages Parent pages allow you to add common elements to pages within your multi-page document, such as page numbers and logos - things which appear on all, or several pages of your document. You can make changes to parent pages at any time, and in a similar way to how styles can be changed, these changes will update on the pages they were applied to. Because parent page editing is more visual than editing style properties, the change are made on a special page, or special pair of pages at the top of the pages tool palette
Creating the page
Tumblr media
Select A5 as the page sheet will be half of A4 page (A5).
2. Change the increments of the page/ruler units
Tumblr media
3. To unlock the control bar go to Window: Control
Tumblr media
4. To open the pages menu go to Window: Pages. This way you will be able to see and create pages.
Tumblr media
5. We created 12 pages using the (+) button (found at the bottom of the panel)
Tumblr media
6. We then used the text tool (T) to add titles to our pages. We did this by dragging out a text box inside the margins where we wanted to fit our text:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IMG: The titles
This is the controls for size and font:
Tumblr media
This is the controls for alignments:
Tumblr media
Here is centre align:
Tumblr media
6. We then created page numbers:
We went into our parent page (A). This way our page numbers would apply to all pages with parent page (A).
Tumblr media
We added a text box and wrote "page 1"
Tumblr media
Then we wanted to apply this same thing to the other page on the same side, so we dragged while holding the option key and released the text box on the other side as desired:
Tumblr media
IMG: 2 Pages with page numbers
Then we selected the page number (1). We went into Type: Insert special characters: Markers: Current page number and applied it to the selected number
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IMG: Where to find current page number
The result should be this as it is part of a parent page not an actual page for the booklet:
Tumblr media
Then, checking throughout the document to see if this has been applied to all pages with the parent page (A):
Tumblr media
IMG: Page numbering worked!
7: Removing a parent page format
To remove a parent page format select the page option "none"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can tell that the parent page has been removed from the page as there is no letter A to indicate that it is part of the parent page format.
8: Margins and columns
We then went into designing a suitable margins and columns for the booklet format. This can be found in Layout: Margins and columns
Tumblr media
To adjust the increments go into the panel and edit. Here we adjusted for 19mm margins. This was applied all around the page.
Tumblr media
These increments are all linked, indicated by this button here:
Tumblr media
This means that every adjustment made to any increment of the margins will be applied to the top, bottom, inside and outside.
Tumblr media
To unlink, simply click on the button and edit accordingly. We added 24mm margins to the bottom as to cater to the page numbering we added.
Tumblr media
We added 6 columns to the booklet format:
Tumblr media
To do this, edit the Column number tab (as shown in the image panel on the right)
We then centred our page numbers by adding a centre align. We had to align to page as to get the page numbers properly centred.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IMG: Centre Align icon, options to align to page
9: Putting it all together
We added a black shape to the booklet to indicate where a picture could be. Then added a text box that indicated where our text would be. We used placeholder text to fill this text box:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IMG: Black square = image placement
10: Text columns
To apply a text column find the icon (pictured below) in the toolbar and edit the amount of columns you want for your text. Remember that this only pops up if you are in text editing mode and have the text box selected!
Tumblr media
Then repeat this wherever!
Go to next post HERE for part 2!
To be honest this task was quite hard for me to follow remotely as I just could not figure the parent pages thing out! I definitely need more practice with Indesign as a whole. However, my friend Maxis helped me out and made life so much easier by actually finding the recording (which I for some reason just couldn't locate). It did take me much longer to do the work as it was hard to work the Indesign stuff while watching the recording. However, it all worked out in the end.
I see that there is a booklet project for semester 2, and I am really excited to begin on that, because it will involve a lot of illustrations which I am beginning to really enjoy doing as a hobby in my spare time. I really want to level-up my Indesign skills before that, so I will be practicing away and exploring the different tools that I can utilise for the project. I am just very excited to be able to showcase all the skills I have developed in the past few weeks in my own project.

I can tell we’re entering a new world of techno-class divide. From a day-to-day function it’s not going to be great for those without access to ai technology, but for folks like CEOs and long-term academics who still struggle with opening a PDF, I think it’s high time for a reckoning.
As a Millennial professor myself, I saw how pandemic razed the gap between teachers who were already using baseline technology and those who refused to integrate their syllabi into Moodle/Canvas/Blackboard.
Now the emails and discussions and emergency town hall meetings and all this crazy fearmongering about how students are going to use Ai to bypass the traditional learning models? GOOD!
TBH if your assessment tools are based on projects & assignments that Ai can complete, then they weren’t really all that practical an assessment tool for at least 30 years since Google was invented. And as a professor, if you can’t identify the “Ai voice” in writing, then I’m also curious if you’ve been suffering from homogenous academic language brain rot.
Ai makes logical connections, but as of yet it doesn’t do a great job of synthesizing ideas. All the ai models I’ve used also have a big barriers up in their algorithm making it clear that their generative-language is NOT representative of your opinions. They’re programmed to acknowledge (and often try to actively steer clear of) giving you feedback that could be considered “bias.” So I find that encouraging self-analysis and emphasis on using personal voice (in a “professional” and academic manner) helps students feel more comfortable sharing their own words.
I do teach under a “reverse learning model,” which means my entire pedagogical ethos encourages self-exploration and skill-mastery over lecture & tutorial.
So if a student is so inclined to use Ai to aid them in completing the project, I love that! While we’re still in the position that Ai isn’t “perfect,” we should help guide how to integrate them into our practices. This is no different than how a math teacher doesn’t ignore that calculators exist. There are so many better and interesting ways to mobilize students in the liberal arts to “show their work,” and actually engage with the content you’re asking them to learn.
Obviously this whole discussion is much broader and complicated, but I’ll say that from the inside: we’re at a moment of reckoning with the state of academia in the US. College has become a product, not a process. Degrees mean nothing because “if everyone’s special, no one’s special.” There is no such thing as job security, there is not such thing as a “career path” anymore. Just go out and do cool shit.
Anyways Ai rules and College Drools.
Love,
Your actual college professor.
