Gilder Mary Helen O’Brien has sprayed several coats of gesso over the well-sanded maple, and now sands the gesso down smoothly – even in the coves of the reeded section – with a small piece of sandpaper. An ink and graphite drawing on paper by Long Island-based artist Nicholas Frizalone that we recently framed. The frame, designed by Kate Truisi, is a Dutch profile milled in maple. Part 1 of a two-part post: Recently, a collector client brought in a graphite and ink work on paper by @artistgeorgecondo (b. 1957) to frame. After consulting with Bark designer Amy Hinten, the two felt that more traditional frame profiles didn't really do much for the artwork — but our client really loved a specific hand-carved corner sample we had in our showroom for the piece. The sample had originally been created for a Picasso painting at @lacma. Here, the beginnings of the Condo frame, milled in basswood, as well as Hinten's profile drawing. The unique shape of the artwork called for designer Christine Heindl to create a custom-scaled drawing for the woodshop to follow.
