Rocks and Minerals
What the heck is a mineral?
Wow, I can’t believe y’all asked that hypothetically. A mineral is a rock formed in its shape naturally (instead of being cut, eroded, etc.) and is mostly homogeneous. Calcite, quartz, all that jazz.
How are rocks and minerals good for magic?
Rocks and minerals are very good energy carriers and even energy batteries depending on the mineral. Some produce their own energy innately, some require charging regularly. They’re good for charging items and spells.
Do all rocks have energy?
Yes, because everything in the universe has some energy. Some rocks have more magical energy than others though. Natural minerals tend to have innate energy from the Earth itself, whereas lab minerals require charging by a second source.
Why do rocks have innate powers?
The structure of rocks themselves on an atomic, molecular level varies by mineral, and even by specimen. Certain structures, colors, etc. are more attuned to certain energies, causing many very common correlations (quartz is neutral, rose quartz is for love, calcite is for energy, etc.). Not all of these correlations work for everyone, of course, but they’re decently common.
Different rocks have different energies with different people. If you hooked up a single AA battery to a car, the car wouldn’t work, but if you put it in a toy, the battery would provide a good amount of charge and allow the correct function. Similarly, different mineral energies interact differently with different people. If you don’t know how a certain mineral affects you, go with your gut. Your intuition is good at telling if something works for you or not, especially when it comes to magic.
Certain rocks can charge others, such as selenite. Other rocks may hold this power for different people, too. Most rocks, however, require some sort of charging and/or cleansing after a certain amount of stress. Moonlight is usually pretty good for this, but there are other methods too, like just sticking a cleansing sigil in a jar and having it cleanse the whole container.
TL;DR: Rocks are good filters and batteries for magical energy, and every specimen and every user is different. Find what works best for you!

Energy Work: Healing
Ah, yes, energy work. We’re quite familiar with the concept at this point, right?
No, what are you talking about? Please explain.
Aight, I guess we don’t know then. Energy work, as I know it, is the most basic, essential way to work with magic. Every other practice of magic is a different branch of energy work, really. Energy work is to magic what physics is to science: everything is just stamp collecting, so to speak.
Energy work is as it sounds: working with energy and directing it to do different tasks. Pretty much anything you do is, to a degree, energy work. A part of the energy you have goes into everything you create, everything you do. Energy work in a magical sense is just using that channeling for different, more magical purposes.
How do you do it?
People have a lot of different techniques for this! Let me list a two classics:
Ground, Center, Cast: This process involves rooting your energy to the Earth and drawing from the Earth and things around it for power, then redirecting that energy into something or someone. From what I hear, this process is extremely popular, but I personally don’t think I know anyone who does this method. It sounds good to me, though.
Energy Circuit: This process involves creating a ring of energy within yourself, and then redirecting that energy into a direction with a certain intent. Usually this is boosted with some kind of material in each hand, most commonly crystals or metal. Most circuits flow from nondominant hand to dominant hand through the body.
These aren’t the only two ways. You can also just direct energy directly out of objects and people (that is, if those people give permission; otherwise it’s just rude and difficult). Figure out what works for you.
How do I heal using energy?
Energy you redirect can be programmed with intent before being sent out into the world. You can program the energy with healing intentions, and directing that energy into people, animals, and items you want to have healing powers. The visualization for this is different for every person. Usually, I just create myself an energy circuit and then channel it into a person, or whatever the target is.
Many people use a white light as the visual, but I always imagine a light blue wind-like electricity-like force coming out of my hand. Figure out what exact method works best for you!
