Nicolesrow:  I’d been wanting to do my first Hike In camping trip so bad. Found this really cool trip in the Los Padres National Forest - a 17 mile trek along the Sespe River Trail reaching the Sespe Hot Springs, for a 34 mile, 2 night, crazy amazing trip! I of course convinced @mebreannalee to do it with me... 😂 still feel like I should apologize 😂 we could barely walk at the end of it. All that trekking in the hot sun with everything we needed on our backs. I feel like I can do anything now. Just a suggestion, when you do proper backcountry no more Coca-Cola signs in sight trips consider using a @spot_llc or @garmin Inreach tracker. It will not only help when you run our talent breaking your limbs or getting serious injured to get search and rescue but also notify your family you are okay or not. This week again ee were shown a photo by local Chilean police of. German BMW rented rider running out of talent crashing his rented bike in the Andean mountains. 8 hours later he was rescued. But also on Facebook a British guy got lost in Peru and having a Spot subscription not paid for although he had a Spot got lost and the entire world looking for him seems still in Peru. N.S. woman strikes gold in national treasure hunting contest

HALIFAX -- It's a modern-day version of an activity typically associated with Captain Kidd and Old West outlaws.

A Nova Scotia geocacher has brought home the biggest bounty in a treasure hunting contest along the world's longest network of recreational trails.

Since August, adventurers from across the country have been combing the 24,000 kilometre length of The Great Trail, formerly known as the Trans Canada Trail, in search of hidden boxes containing prizes.

Janet Shellnutt, a geocache and outdoor enthusiast from Dartmouth, N.S., has won a trip for two onboard a One Ocean Expeditions vessel to Labrador and Torngat Mountains National Park.

Geocaching is an outdoor activity, similar to a scavenger hunt, that involves using GPS or other navigational systems and to hide and look for containers often containing a logbook and small goodies.

The Trans Canada Trail, the non-profit group that operates The Great Trail, says while the contest is over, some boxes will remain on the trail for other geocachers to use.

We feel safe and are staying out of large cities when possible. Following an expected December 15, 2022 court decision about the detention of former President Castillo, additional demonstrations may occur throughout the country, including in Lima. Separate demonstrations by anti-government groups are also planned for December 15 in downtown Lima.   Even peaceful demonstrations may quickly escalate and turn violent. Flights to and from Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ) in Cusco, Alfredo Rodriguez Ballón International Airport (AQP) in Arequipa, Juliaca Inca Manco Cápac Airport (JUL) near Puno, and Andahuaylas Airport (ANS) are temporarily suspended.  Travelers whose flights were affected by ongoing events should work with the airlines to reschedule flights if necessary. Train service to and from Aguas Calientes/Machu Picchu Village remains suspended. Travelers in Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and in Aguas Calientes/Machu Picchu Village are advised to shelter in place until safe transportation options become available.
