#spousal privelege

I am curious, how soon did you know/plan for Spousal Privilege be so important for Foolish Games?

Guess it's just the wondering how it fits in with realizing that Wicked Game would end up staying far closer to canon than you originally anticipated. If that makes sense?

I couldn't tell you exactly, but... it was probably before Wicked Game ended.

I mean, I have had an idea for a fic where Elliot comes back during this timeframe BEFORE Wicked Game, just what would happen and what it would look like...

Because I am always a sucker for the "Elliot finds out about Lewis" storylines. And I wanted one.

During one of my SVU rewatches I got that timeline in my head. It's always been in the back of my head since. So, I can't possibly tell you WHEN I made the decision to place the timeline there.

After Wicked Game finished, I watched S15/S16/S17 to an idea of where the characters were, what sort of timeframe would be better.

I knew I wanted Noah to be there, I wanted him to be a part of her life, but not grown. I wanted him just a bit younger than toddler. I wanted her to be in a happy place, but maybe not quite stable.

Noah's past infant stage, but not toddler yet... kinda the age of Eli (actually a bit younger) when WG ended.

That's what I wanted. And when I rewatched S16, I saw Spousal Privelege and it just CLICKED. My brain said "YES HERE, DO IT". Because there is so much in this episode tied into the Wicked Game storyline.

I wish I had a good snippet to share, but so far all I have is boring set-up!!

Unfortunately given the nature of all those WIPs, it might be a while before I can post anything. Hopefully though I can get a few chapters up and ready so then it’ll be quick updates.

i wish spousal privelege was soemthing that shows understood more.

it just means that the court can’t compel you to testify against your partner. but you can totally do it if you want. it’s not like doctor/patient or lawyer/client. spousal privilege lies with the spouse testify not the spouse accused of committing a crime...
