A study in Obi-Wan's homeworld, Stewjon, Vol. iii:
vol. i: a brief overview of terrain, seasons, inhabitants, and culture
vol. ii: the known history of stewjon
Stewjon has four main deities:
Spirit of the Hearth
Spirit of the Water
Spirit of the Below
Spirits of the Skies
Tumblr media
Each of these deities have their own respective lesser spirits, but the worship of these lesser spirits is on a much more personal and private level. The four main deities are usually celebrated with family and community-wide events. None of them have formal places of worship (churches, temples, ect), but villages will have public shrines dependent on their population and the main export/business of their community (Hearth shrines are most common in farming settlements, Water at combat training grounds, Skies at trading outposts, ect).
The spirit of the Hearth is a being made of stone and gentle flame, and is the most powerful of the deities on Stewjon. They represent home, harvest, family, and fertility. There are many ways to honor the Hearth, but the most common is to just keep a fire lit inside the home at all times (which is no hardship given the cold climate of Stewjon). The second most common method is to leave a gift, usually carved wood, at one of the public Hearth shrine(s) found within most communities. These shrines are also commonly seen along travel lanes so people can make offerings for safe passage to and from home.
(Hearth spirit is most comparable to Thor, Crom Cruach, or Hestia)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The spirit of Water is the deity of the warrior, they represent strength, exploration, rebirth, bravery, and battle. It is found in every naturally formed circular pond or lake and is marked by a mossy obelisk to indicate it as a place of worship. Stewjoni are not known for their skills in battle, nor do they have a formal military, but there are still those who choose to train to fight, whether it be against invaders or the predators that roam the planet. For ranged weapons, they use imported blasters (usually mismatched so there are no records of bulk shipments) and the most common close combat ones are spears and naginata-like weapons.
(Water spirit is most comparable to the Sea Mither)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The spirit of the Below is both a deity and a way of being. They represent community, protection, and working together to survive against the odds. This spirit is usually depicted as a glowing jellyfish-like creature who shifts in color and lives in the deepest of the underground tunnels.
(Below spirit is most comparable to Parcae or Cailleach)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The spirits of the Skies are wisps of starlight. They are the ancestors, they represent life after death, miracles, travel, and connections to the past. Those who are Force sensitive on Stewjon are referred to as Star Touched and are respected members of society.
(Skies spirits are most comparable to fairies/ghosts)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notably, Stewjon does not have deities dedicated to health nor weather. The Stewjoni worship old religion, but they do not ignore modern science. They do not believe spirits will heal the sick or revive a drowned crop.
The most celebrated holiday on Stewjon is Fire Nights (see vol. i), which includes the worship of all four deities. During this week, the spirits of the Skies come down and touch the planet's surface to celebrate and then help move people to their underground homes. It is said the spirits then stay on the surface through the harsh season to aid the Hearth and Water deities in protecting the planet.
Other holidays throughout the year include:
a harvest festival at the start of the season
waterside celebrations on the dates of significant battles
the date Stewjon fucked off from the rest of the galaxy
and a 2 week period where Stewjon invites their Kage cousins to come visit so the rest of the galaxy remembers their alliance and shared history (threat)

A study in Obi-Wan's homeworld, Stewjon:
Stewjon, pronounced "stah-yon", is a strangely backwater planet located in the heart of the galaxy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first thing you will notice about Stewjon is that it's wet. There is no ocean, but lakes and ponds cover most of the land, and the air itself is filled with a dense fog, so thick that it almost makes the planet look uninhabited. And it might not seem like it, but Stewjon does have a sun - in fact, the sun is its only celestial body and it slowly eats away at the fog throughout the day until it sets! The planet has no moon to speak of, which would leave the nights pitch black if not for the stars that are visible for several hours until the fog thickens again. Since Stewjon is located in the center of the Deep Core, the sky is packed with stars, illuminating the surface with an indigo glow.
Stewjon has two seasons. the first season is referred to as Teraèile and is the half of the year where fog covers the ground during the day and then dissipates at night. Most of this season is cold and wet, mostly seeing rain or mist, and on occasion, a sunny (yet still frigid) day. The second season is Noèile and this season is a very dangerous time to be on the planet's surface as the sun is much closer to it and does not set at all, making it too hot and dry to sustain life for an extended period of time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
During Noèile, it seems like the Stewjoni people simply vanish, but they actually move to their underground communities to survive the season. There is a deep cave system under Stewjon's surface that is host to its capital city, Luma. It operates as a normal city, just underground. Luma is mostly home to the richer and political families, some whom spend the whole year down there rather than moving every season. The more modest folk live in the branching tunnels which are covered in glowing plant life. There are beaches, fauna, and plenty of areas you could call "the boonies" in these tunnels and they see a lot of recreational use through Noèile.
The best time to be on Stewjon is during Fire Nights, a holiday to signal the end of the harvest season and to start getting ready to head underground. This is a week long event where the night sky is naturally lit up by brilliant red lights and is celebrated with bonfires, parties, and lots of drinking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second thing you will notice about Stewjon is that despite itself, it is not a dark planet. In darkness, everything shines. The stars illuminate what is mean to be a long and dark night, the deep caves are alight with glowing plant life, and even its people have properties that allow them to both see and glow in the dark.
Stewjoni people are humanoids and what you would expect from a planet that hardly sees any sunlight, their skin is pasty white (some more ghostly than others) with hair colors typically ranging from shades of pink, red, orange, blonde, grey, and white.
Their most unusual characteristics are their eye color, bioluminescent markings, and pointed ears.
Stewjoni eye colors are varying shades green, blue, purple, and red. They are different from baseline human eyes in that the iris and sclera are the same color with the iris typically being the darker shade of the two and the sclera being slightly more muted.
Tumblr media
However, in darkness, their eye structure changes. The iris takes on a slight glow and the sclera darkens to a solid black, this allows the Stewjoni people to see in the dark and help navigate the more rural parts of their cave systems.
Tumblr media
A person's bioluminescent markings reflect their eye color, and the pattern and amount of markings will vary depending on their family. People who come from old money tend to glow more in the dark because their families have spent generations upon generations in the underground. Meanwhile, most common folk will have only smatterings of glowing marks around their bodies. Typically, the more a person glows in the dark, the more likely it is they come from a lineage who mostly lived in the underground. And the less, the poorer. The markings are respondent to light; in daylight they are shades of natural browns and tans (in rare cases, white), but they react to dim light or darkness by shifting color and emitting a faint glow.
Stewjon has a noticeable difference between economic classes. People who live on the surface for half the year tend to be working class. There is a heavy agricultural presence with their main export being native vegetation. The roughest part of the year for these people is when they have to move underground and are on a budget or taking odd jobs to last through the season.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The underground communities are usually very well kept and clean, whereas the structures on the planet's surface tend to be a little more weathered and overrun with nature since beating back the wildlife seems like a waste of time when there is more important work to do. This doesn't make the cities ugly by any means, rather it just makes a more natural blend between nature and urban areas. Technology is slow to improve on Stewjon, they have a modern society and advanced farming equipment, but are not known for their ships or space travel. In fact, it is very rare for Stewjoni people to ever leave the planet. It is equally rare for expats of other planets to take up residence there either due to their extreme weather and seasons. Because of this, Stewjon has very few relations with its neighboring planets outside of export and the Stewjoni people tend to either fear or not acknowledge the rest of the galaxy altogether.
Traditional Stewjoni clothing consists of animal pelts and so many layers because it's always fucking cold and people don't want to die. Common folk do not possess any fancy clothing and even the rich have very few luxury items. Stewjoni farming culture is extremely ancient and the people take pride in harvesting their own materials for threads and linings. They have specialized weaving techniques that no one outside of their culture knows.
Also, there are not monsters that exclusively come out during the foggy part of night so don't worry about it.

A study in Obi-Wan's homeworld, Stewjon, Vol. ii:
vol. i: a brief overview of terrain, seasons, inhabitants, and culture
Stewjon is an ancient planet and much like Mand'alor, its inhabitants have seen many changes throughout the centuries.
Both Stewjon's original name and native sentient race have been lost to the annexes of time, but it is presumed the original people were amphibious cousins to the modern-day Kage people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stewjon wasn't always isolationist like it is today and it was once common for near-humans to come for the planet's rich soil and abundance of farm land. Though, despite the number of expats that would come, very few ever permanently settled due to the ways the planet's unusual climate forced them to live.
While the atmosphere is compatible with near-human life, the planet's surface can pose a hostile threat to those who don't know how to navigate it. At surface level, the air is dense with moisture and the ever-present fog covering the ground makes it extremely difficult for people without enhanced eyesight to see clearly. In addition, bodies of water are strewn about the surface and many are filled with deep cave networks that will pull people in if they are not careful.
The mixing of near-human and native sentients resulted in the modern day people of Stewjon, who share the distinct glowing properties and pointed ears of their predecessors, and the pigmentation of most human-like species. There is no up-to-date information on their biology nor culture, and the most recent data comes from the mid-point of the High Republic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
According to this data, Stewjoni people :
are capable of withstanding deep-water pressure and holding their breath for upwards of 30 minutes ;
have adapted to survive with little to no sunlight ;
have a similar ethereal vibe to that of their Kage cousins ;
are capable of seeing in complete darkness ;
if trained, are capable of hearing distinct noises from up to 800 meters away.
Stewjon became an extreme isolationist planet during the mid-point of the High Republic when its local government felt they were being treated unfairly. The planet's soil was being over-tilled and its freshwater supply was being contaminated due to the abundance of fertilizer required to yield enough crops for their clients. Stewjon had always been capable of taking care of itself, but it seemed trying to supply the rest of the galaxy was taking a toll on its people, land, and wildlife.
The planet's leaders also felt they were not receiving enough protection from the Republic as their agricultural communities and vast cave networks made Stewjon a prime target for pirates and fugitives running from the law. Fortunately, Stewjon was far from the Core Planets and the backlash the Republic would recieve from trying to force a peaceful community of farmers to adhere to their rules would not be worth the uproar it would cause. Especially with the Kage people, known for their elite warriors, taking Stewjon's side.
Stewjon has one heavily guarded space port where only neighboring planets are allowed to do trade. They do not import goods nor services, they only export crops and, on occasion, artisan items. They do not trade in furs or meats because they do not want the galaxy to know species they harbor on their planet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stewjon's internal politics have remained steady throughout the centuries. The government is made of several ruling families who know better than to overstep and the common people remain content so long as the borders are kept closed and they are given enough community resources to help care for the sick and less fortunate. The land has never been scarred by war or devastating man-made weapons. The hostile climate is hard enough to survive on its own and it's always been safer for any opposing parties to diplomatically work through their problems than try to wage battle.
And as far as external politics go, it is unknown where Stewjon stands. Although, they have surrendered two of their own to the Jedi Order, so it seems they are at least willing to cooperate with some of the Core World's practices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On record, Master Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Master Jedi Fay are the only Stewjoni people to live within the Republic's borders. While it is legal for Stewjon's inhabitants to leave the planet, most choose not to because of presumptions about the rest of the universe. They think Stewjon is the epitome of safety and peace, and that the rest of the galaxy is all chaos and brimming with danger.
tldr; stewjon is mostly left alone because it's a pity planet with a big scary older brother

Note
Do you consider your version of Stewjon space Scotland?.
thank you for asking and not at all!
Tumblr media
i don't have a direct comparison for my interpretation, but i'd say it's much more similar to a fantasy realm than anywhere else
