Today I started working on a novel (?) project tentatively called Mudlark that's a Star-Wars-flavored futuristic fantasy. Magic, experimental corporate cults, found tribe, ethically grey motivations, "we make each other better" tropes, and ace romance.
I kinda want to post about it on here but also I don't want to spam anyone so if you don't want to see that: please block #mudlark and/or #redwinternovels (different than my usual #redwinterwrites that I use for fic stuff).

hello hello i cannot remember if i posted him but have my stupid crazy homeless man before and after trauma. He is so stupid and sweet under all his evil in arc 1 of my current story and arc 2 shows his soft side so much. i love this man so much.
his name is reginald and he invented radio to make friends. but he is kinda sorta not the best person. more will be elaborated later i hope.

So I may or May not Have Created Designs for a New Multiverse where everyone Is pretty Much a Living Doll/Puppet-
I think I'll Call it StitchVerse if there isn't a Multiverse that's already named that .w.
Though I do find the name Fitting Considering the fact everyone is a Puppet/doll
I also gave them Some Nicknames already cause why not lol :)
So far I've gotten these 4's designs for this Multiverse, Though I also have the Sans that pretty much Sparked the Idea
Tumblr media
I'll call him Stitch!sans for now ^^
Or I'll probably Just call him Sutetchi
Info on Sutetchi and StitchVerse
*Sutetchi Has No Au if they where to be in a Normal Multiverse, But in StitchVerse, Sutetchi is the Og! Sans in that Timeline
*Their eyes arnt Actully Buttons but the Eyelights Are (This Goes to Every Character in StitchVerse and Sutetchi)
*Something about Sutetchi's Eye is that the one that's Closed it actully Stitched Shut meaning Sutetchi Can't see out of it, even if one was to Free the Eye open, Sutetchi would still be Blind In that eye socket
*in StitchVerse Sutetchi Mostly Spends their Time Peacefully Walking threw the Omega Timeline In StitchVerse also with his Papyrus (Stitch!Papyrus) also Known at Ito there. But in a Different Multiverse, Sutetchi Is the only one left, other than 4 Young Stitch Monsters with him
*since in a other Multiverse Sutetchi wouldn't Have a Au would Be Mysterious, Either it was because It somehow Destoried itself or The World corrupted only Leaving The 5 left there
*Fabric to Sutetchi and in StitchVerse would be Considered Healing Items as They are pretty much Big Lumps of Fabric themselfs, Though the Creation of Stitch Monsters Are still pretty Much Magic as in the same way their Alive
*The 'Humans' in StitchVerse Are still Mostly Human, They Just Have Fabric Attached to them, Random Strings Around their Body or Have an Appearance that seems Stitch or Doll Based.
*Souls Are still Existing inside Stitch Monsters, Though like the doll based Monsters/Humans they are, The Souls also Look like their made of Fabric in a way, But oddly Stiff like there's Plenty of Stuffing in it, Weaker Souls are less stiff though (Like Sick Souls Offten are More Fragile. It's Rare for a Soul to Be Born with Problems bit it's not impossible
And with that :)
I'll be off to Do some other things and working on this Verse and Au some more ^v^

Help I've got a whole AU bouncing around in my head.
A universe where magic is manifested in lines and threads of energy, and those who can interact with it are called stitchworkers. Some, like Xisuma, can stitch things -- items, doorways, paths to other realms, even (in theory) living beings -- into existence. Others, like Evil X, have the ability to unstitch things. Or even people.
And all magic users are feared (for good reason, thanks to unstitchers), so Xisuma flees to a pocket dimension and creates a safe haven for other stitchworkers.
Joe is on the run because he stitched Cleo back to life. Grian got caught trying to weave a world into existence. Tango is someone who actually can do both with pretty equal ability. Doc is a powerful unstitcher, who tends to take apart the laws of nature for fun and curiosity. Some of the hermits don't actually have magic themselves but are sympathetic or for some other reason need a safe place to live.
... help I don't do aus I don't know what to do with it lol

Okay so this is purely self-indulgent on my part bc I'm such a slut for bumbling characters having moments/scenes of extreme competency, but imagine somewhere along the lines after False joined, in secret, Mumbo started teaching himself combat stitching.
So when he fucks up and accidentally exposes them all to EX, and the hermits are fleeing, Mumbo has his scene.
False is doing her best, but the army EX brought with him is too big for her; she's only one woman there's only so much she can do, and as she turns from one enemy to another she sees a weapon coming for her head and suddenly it's gone, and she watches that enemy unspool like an unravelling jumper as the adrenaline in her blood slows time to a crawl, and behind where the enemy was she sees Mumbo engaged in combat. He's got a massive shield braced against him as he looks at her, and False can see the expression of hope harden into certainty as Mumbo nods and reshapes his shield into an offensive weapon and goes back to his own fight.
Meanwhile the less combat able hermits have escaped down into TFC's mines and are putting distance between them so Xisuma can craft an escape route. The fighters will catch up, they always do.
SEE OKAY LOOK the thing with Mumbo?? when he puts his mind to something, It Gets Done. He decides to learn to be a builder? BOOM. Living base with its own story. Mountain covered in a village and a giant temple. He decides to go a whole season without directly killing anything? If it weren't for Grian... XD I kid, he does it. He decides to build a [insert ridiculous redstone concept here]? It might take him hours or days but by jingo he's gonna do it.
So if this guy decided to put his mind to learning how to protect the people and place he loves? That man would be terrifying.
(and yes I'm a sucker for that same trope bless)

red this stitchverse au seems so cool. cleo being one of joe’s stitched creations is SUCH a concept—i wonder how that would affect her? would she need maintenance every so often? can she stitch as well, maybe on a smaller scale with her armor stands, or are her armor stands just mimics of stitching magic? it could be interesting if joe stitched her and she was an UNstitcher, though i’m not entirely sure how that’d work. maybe her ability is less controllable than it usually would have been, so she’s constantly unstitching her own body, and that’s why joe needs to help her stay in one piece? after all, she is ZOMBIE cleo!
also. grian was captured while stitching a world? captured by whom, exactly? and what world was it? sorry for all the questions but this au is INTRIGUING hehe
OOOH thoughts thoughts thoughts okay. So.
I think Cleo and Joe were friends before. Cleo is definitely someone people think is an unstitcher, just because of her attitude, and she can unstitch things (Joe's kneecaps are at constant risk of being unstitched) but she's much better at creation than destruction. But she also... isn't super good at hiding her opinions from people she disagrees with, and that's what ended up getting her caught, imprisoned, and executed. Joe (who had normally been the sort of person to caution, to restrain, to keep a low profile) walked silently into the facility, unstitching every door along the way until he found her. Without a word, he picked her up and left -- no one who stood in his way made it out unscathed. He didn't kill anyone... but there are fates worse than death, when you can recreate someone's very being.
Joe's one of the most wanted men in any dimension.
And Hermitcraft gave him and Cleo both the freedom to just... do what they do. Create. Destroy when needed. Sow and till and prune and grow, and if it also means Joe now speaks his mind and Cleo brings her automaton creations to full life instead of just the very clever machines they were before... well. That's just Hermitcraft.
As for Grian... I think his story is pretty much the same as the usual Evo-to-Hermitcraft lore pipeline, except in this case the "watchers" weren't supernatural beings... they were spies who caught him, "rescued" the friends he'd been living with, and kept him in a testing facility for a very long time. Probably sedated or restrained in some way. He escaped one day when their vigilance slipped, just enough, and he basically unstitched enough of himself to walk between the threads of the world and get away. It left him... a little inhuman. But none the worse for wear overall, and with a burning hatred for the "watchers" that destroyed what he loved once. He won't let that happen again.

Okay so
TFC is a powerful stitcher who's been alive long enough to teach himself at least rudimentary unstitching
Ren is a pretty great stitcher, but it's something he learned from his prodigy younger brother who's actually Fucking Amazing at it
Jellie can stitch and no one knows how or why but Scar is delighted by it
False is one of the pioneers of combat stitching, idk enough about how this works in your head to really think of the details of what this would entail
Gem's stitching means her plants are Thriving no matter what environment she's in
Zed can't stitch. At least they don't think he can. Tango and Impulse insist that he's definitely not mundane, but the stories are always super hard to believe. Zedaph is just. Odd.
No one's sure if TFC was born with the ability, or if he's actually one of the fabled few who managed to learn it without a natural ability. And he's not telling. (Honestly, he's not sure himself. It probably doesn't matter anyway. He keeps the webbed foundation of Hermitcraft taut and watches for loose threads or weak spots so they can be dealt with before they're a problem.)
Ren can do Big Dramatic (Looking) Things that don't actually need much oomph behind them -- the magical equivalent of fireworks and smoke-and-mirror shows. But he's so clever about the way he uses them that half the time they end up just as useful as more dramatic workings.
Jellie Does As She Pleases.
Combat stitching would turn both ways, warp and weft. You'd be able to conjure armor and weapons and defenses, but also tug away at the threads that hold your opponent together -- you want to be evenly balanced in both so you can defend yourself against your enemy while still being able to strike back.
Gem, Stress, Jevin, Cub, Scar, and a few others are particularly skilled with the stitchings that cause life to bloom and land to grow. Xisuma can keep them safe, but he relies on them to keep their world alive.
Zed is. Zed. We're not entirely certain that Zed himself wasn't stitched into being by something or someone else. He doesn't have very many clear memories from before he found himself a Hermit... but that's probably for the better.

I feel like Jellie might end up stitching herself cat ramps and cat doors she ends up winding up in. So many places she shouldn't be.
Like Scar boxes himself in somewhere to afk and he zones back into reality to find Jellie kneading his blanket on his lap in his chair and periodically looking up at him bc come on brother come back I want scritches
Oh yeah. Absolutely. That cat goes wherever she decides she wants to, and the only thing that goes through obsidian faster than a netherite efficiency 5 pick with a haste 2 beacon is Jellie deciding that there's Something Interesting on the other side. XD

Just imagined Grian stitching himself new wings every few months when he gets bored with the current design.
"It wasn't me, it was the chicken man!"
"Grian, you have chicken wings."
(Weaves a rainbow of colouring threads through each feather in the blink of an eye.) "No I don't!"
Oh HECK yeah. XD Maybe that's something he brought with him when he dragged himself back into being after escaping the facility. He'd used wings to escape and now he couldn't bring himself to get rid of them, so he just... he just has wings now.
And he gets to Hermitcraft and all the other hermits are like "Dude, that's a great idea, we should try it." And now they just all have wings -- mechanical, biological, detachable, however they please. And it's one thing that HC has that the rest of the universe hasn't actually picked up on for some reason (well. other than the whole "using magic will get you locked up and/or killed" thing...) so the hermits are zipping around on magic wings while the rest of the universe is stuck with cars and whatever.
no i'm not jealous what are you talking about

rant warning ahead, i have a lot of thoughts about this au. it’s probably gonna get pretty sewing-nerd-y too so be prepared lol
first up: tools. i imagine that very talented stitchworkers don’t need tools, but most stitchers (or unstitchers) do. things like needles, looms, you get the idea. probably not real needles, more metaphysical, but my point still stands. there are all sorts of different needles depending on the craft and the user’s persona style. WAIT what about things like sewing machines?? like maybe they could exist but since stitching is yknow, illegal and all that, i’m not sure. idk but its definitely A Concept that would be very fun to dive into.
also! knots! if someone were to be taught stitching, (which i feel like at least one person on the hermitcraft server is currently being taught), i think that they would definitely start with knots. connecting two pieces of reality but only at the corner seems like a great way to teach a beginner. i think you probably could just use knots as your main form of stitching but it takes more effort. also also back to the whole “you’re either born with magic or you’re not“ thing. consider: a lot of people are born with it, but most don’t know they have the ability. theyve never tried, never even considered it because of how much it’s frowned upon. developing an ability you didn’t know you had takes time, but having someone experienced to help you along certainly helps.
obviously there are different types of fabric when it comes to stitching irl, so how would this translate to the AU? think how some types of fabric frays very easily, but how some doesn’t fray at all. some fabric rips, some doesn’t, some stretches, some doesn’t, etc.
different! stitches! are! definitely! a! thing! like backstitches are for bigger projects or stuff more likely to get ripped or unstitched because they’re more sturdy, whipstitches are for the finishing details or the edges of a project, (also for embroidery-style stitching), running stitches are more practical and less precise, etc. i would absolutely keep going with different stitches but i don’t wanna get too too ranty lol
strands vs. threads: another thing that people who don’t sew probably won’t know!! basically one thread has six strands and you can separate them depending on how thick you want the line of string to be. so like, 6 strand sewing is for big projects, and two strand sewing is for tiny in-reality adjusments. stuff like changing jellie’s fur pattern to mess with scar or drying a wet sponge. (one strand sewing isn’t a thing, your thread will rip. use this information how you will.)
patches! most reality patches are made of the same material as the original, but there are definitely some stitchers who prefer to make flashy noticeable patches made of way different material that stands out. put a patch of the nether in a spot where the overworld reality tore. you get the point.
different styles of stitching! i know this has already been brought up but i want to go more in-depth with it.
cleo’s stitching is ABSOLUTELY embroidery. there’s literally no question about it. i feel like grian stitches with both embroidery and knots. Im thinking xB felts. idk why. mumbo is probably still learning but i think he would mostly just use sewing. scar can practically do it all, he’s a jack of all trades type. his go-to is sewing though. i know you already said x and ex work best with knitting, but honestly i think crochet suits them better. zedaph probably works with lace-sewing best. (is there an actual word for that? i feel like there is.) stress weaves.
random thing that i just thought up: certain hairstyles are associated with stitchworkers, and can be used as signals. the most obvious one is a braid/braids, especially for weavers, because well. its practically just weaving except with hair. stuff like doing hair can also help people hone in on their craft because yes.
told you it’d get rant-y. this is the shortened version. i have adhd ok
i love this. i love many elements of this and will definitely possibly maybe sssstteaalborrow them. XD

Oh? I thought this was some sort of modern-day fantasy AU where the pocket dimensions were hidden between the cracks of brick walls or whatever in an otherwise normal(ish) Earth, what's this about space and the nether?
eheheheh okay. so.
confession: I have a space-opera obsession.
I love the idea that "servers" are basically planets -- but instead of floating through space, they're all connected via the Nether, and you can access different worlds/servers/planets via portals.
But this world is far bigger than any "real" Minecraft world, and the Nether is incredibly vast, so while the floor of it is still lava and netherrack and such, and the roof is still bedrock, the area between is MUCH bigger. Like. Eight or twelve times bigger from top to bottom. Big enough that ships (more along the lines of X-wings or TIE fighters, with the biggest ones being more the scale of the Mandalorian's Razor Crest) can fly through it and transport people between dimensions. In this 'verse, nether travel doesn't take you between areas in one world, (or at least, not if you go very far) it takes you between different worlds entirely.
Sorry. Just. The idea of space ships flying through the red shadows of the Nether. I love it so much.

I was just going to ask what would it take for society to see the stitchers as good, then I started thinking about how different the "normal" world would be, if anything to do with fabric/thread crafting is a bit taboo, is there less of a fashion industry, are conversations online not called threads, is the programming name for the string data type called something else, also isn't there a physics idea called string theory too, etc?
See, this is going way beyond any thoughts I had... XD
If that were the case, fabric and textile industries would be pretty much nonexistent, so I'm going to say that it's more "normal people don't do this for fun, and if you DO, you're going to get scrutiny" and that clothing and such has always been (at least since magic became taboo) manufactured in lifeless, dull factory-type settings.
Probably fashion in general is VERY boring and simplistic -- but people are people, so they likely come up with ways around this. I imagine painted and printed fabric probably becomes fairly popular, both factory-produced and home-done. It's not unusual to buy a plain article of clothing and then paint or dye it to your own personal preferences.
As for the last few questions... In my head this au is vaguely space-opera flavored? Like Star Wars -- that place where scifi becomes fantasy because *jedi hand wave* physics don't matter. LOL So probably if those things exist, they have different names, and if they don't, there's something else that's taken their place.

stitchverse is such a unique idea and i love it a lot!! in my head the lump is a production of the swamp ladies making a new season's resolution to get good at nature stitching together just because it's neat. the hats are a little magic, but mostly for fun :)
I love the term "little magic" -- so many little magics in this world! Golden carrots are probably a little magic (since. ya know. they don't make sense. XD) and Scar's hat definitely is. (He can fit so many things in that hat. Don't ask.)
And I can't help but picture False and Stress and Gem sitting around learning nature stitching like an old-fashioned quilting bee, with magic stretched out across their laps and shared between them and just chatting and stitching stories and laughter into the fabric of their swamp. <3

what is xisuma and ex’s relationship like in the stitchverse au?
Not Good.
They grew up in hiding, forced to live in tight quarters to keep their abilities from being noticed by nosey neighbors. This made Xisuma nervous and shy growing up, but EX just got... angry about it. And he resented that his skills lay in unstitching (generally seen as the "bad" power, even by their parents, who meant well but were as flawed as anyone) while Xisuma's were different.
I think something happened to their parents when they were still fairly young teens -- maybe late high-school age. Possibly their parents got caught. And they had to go on the run.
I'm torn between having them both just... flee and lose track of each other after a fight or something, or possibly EX got caught. I think I like the idea that part of the reason he hates Xisuma and wants what he has is that EX suffered for his power, and he doesn't believe that Xisuma has.
If I make it so that EX was locked up, I also kind of like the idea that it was the same facility where Grian was later kept -- that EX escaped by overpowering the guards and basically blasting his way out, and Grian nearly had to destroy himself in order to get away. (I like mirror imagery, okay, lol)
These days, Xisuma is aware of his brother being Out There Somewhere but doesn't really pay too much attention to the possibility of seeing him again. He's got too many other things to deal with. Meanwhile EX is fixated on tracking down Xisuma and making him pay the way EX believes he paid.
If EX found him though... Xisuma doesn't realize how much his brother hates him. He could very easily be convinced that EX just wants a safe place, that EX missed him, that they can be the brothers Xisuma remembers from when they were little. (Even if his memories of being young are slightly unreliable, as EX always hid how much he resented Xisuma.) Which would make him a very easy target.
EX is counting on that.

imagining.. what if cleo, being stitched herself, is more in tune with her creations than most stitchers, to the point where they almost (not quite, but almost) feel like extensions of herself?
this is in fact the reason that every so often she accidentally partially unstitches herself while deep in the jaws of an armor stand project. its very annoying.
-⚡️(if thats available)
Oh my lands yes. Yes yes.
It can be hard to tell where the magic keeping her alive ends and her own magic begins.
Joe and Xisuma sometimes get into deep existential discussions on the topic. Sometimes Cleo plays along with the discussion, swapping back and forth between their different points of view or playing a third devil's advocate... And sometimes she just says "Yes, Joe," and then "accidentally" stitches their shoelaces together or something. XD
