Plant and Woodland Observation - Cow Parsley in a Woodland, Essex, UK.
I thought I'd share with you a little something from a project in development, the idea is to celebrate and spotlight the contributions the minority of hidden, overlooked forest land in the UK makes to the wider natural (and urban) environment through the study of the woodland as it grows and decays throughout the year, presented in the form of a triptych with the aim of creating a cohesive, considered, meaningful narrative through the exploration of viewpoint, subject, time (season) and continuity.
The triptych above is an early experimentation with the technique, in which the one picture has been equally divided into three separate panels, allowing people to view the same scene from various perspectives, whilst placing emphasis on the bush of Cow Parsley in the centre of the frame.
Originally founded in the Middle Ages, the triptych is a technique where a piece of artwork (or photo) has a centre which is often the focus of the piece, with two adjoining panels at either side.
The triptych must have a style, theme, or technical element in common to connect the three panels together, otherwise the impact or intention of the piece is lost.
Mostly, the panels of the triptych are all of equal size, although some feature a slightly bigger central piece, joined by two slightly smaller panels on the left and right.
