Madonna & Child paintings by Angela Trindade (India)
Angela Trindade (born 1909) was one of the first women artists to make a mark on the modern Indian art scene, developing her own style, and carrying on a legacy of a highly illustrious father, Antonio Xavier Trindade (1870-1935), a very famous painter from Goa.
She trained as a painter with her father and at the Sir J. J. School of Art. She was the recipient of the Gold Medal in the All-India Women Artists’ Exhibition in 1936. She also received the Papal decoration Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice from Pope Pius XII for contributions to the field of religious art. A large work, commissioned by the Government of Portugal, hangs in the Mall of Justice in Lisbon. She died in 1980 in Brazil.
A book was published about her and her art in 2016 but is now impossible to find. http://englishnews.thegoan.net/story.php?id=21966

She created a wonderful series of Madonna and Child and Christmas-themed paintings, here are some of them.

A major exhibit of Angela’s Christian-themed art was held in Goa in 2014. https://www.heraldgoa.in/Cafe/Angela-Trindade-%E2%80%99s-Oriental-point-of-view/81118 - excerpts below from this news article.
Accalimed the world over for an immensely diverseoeuvre of work that included portraits, landscapes, everydayscenes and still life, Angela is recognised as one of India’sforemost artists to Indianise Christian art. “Angela was greatly influenced by her teachers who propogated revivalism inIndia art. This led her to depict western religious figuresin Indian style,” avers historian and author, Fátima da Silva Gracias
On another level, it reflectsAngela’s deep religious urgings. By her own admission, herreligious paintings were “the result of an urge to representChrist and His Mother to my people in India in a style thatis common to all”. Her Indian style illustration of the Hinditranslation of the New Testament is perhaps one of the bestexamples of this. For the very first time, Goa is honouring its daughterfrom Assnora, with a selective exhibition of of her IndianisedChristian art. “Angela Trindade’s work is being exhibited inGoa for the first time. So it’s a great opportunity for peopleto enjoy her work. Also, the religious paintings have beenspecifically chosen to coincide with the forthcomingexposition,” explains Eduardo Kol de Carvalho, Director,Fundacao Oriente.
Executed over a period of 18 years (1941-1959), the 19paintings on display are predominantly in yellow, orange anda combination of both. “Angela was deeply influenced byher father who was a great colourist and in these paintingsshe has used these three colours with great deliberationand superlative results. A majority of the paintings are inwatercolour on paper, while four are in China Ink, depictingscenes from the life of Christ done in one year (1949) andtwo oil paintings of the Madonna taken from the ‘TrinitySeries’. In some of these paintings, Angela has made use ofhand gestures (mudras). The most striking feature of Angela’swork, it is said, is its serenity,” explains Gracias.Bringing a refreshing perpective to the oriental point ofview, Angela’s Indianisation of Christian Art makes a strikingstatement.

This next webpage is about the recent book on Angela’s life and art.
http://www.navhindtimes.in/chronicling-the-life-of-angela-trindade/ Here is an excerpt:
Angela had five different styles— western style (portraits), trindadism (a style developed by Angela herself which the Americans call the ‘trinity style’); Indianised Christian art; abstract expressionism; and tantric art. “The Trindadism style used a lot of triangles. Though she was known for this particular style, she became popular for the Indian style of painting Christian art. She presented Our Lady in a saree, with brown skin and an Indian face and used a lot of Indian colours like yellow, orange. She sometimes showed baby Jesus in a dhoti and introduced other Indian elements like the diyas, replacing the lily – an important symbol in Christianity – with the lotus, introduced the mudras or the human gestures. She loved bright colours, and would compare them with emotions,” explains Fatima. The tantric style and abstract expressionism Angela began to paint when she settled in America. “She was one of the first to attempt tantric art in modern times,” says [book author] Fatima.

KILL THE SCARE!
Get infected and die. The novel coronavirus has been all over the media and mouths of almost everyone. As it crawl all over the internet, misinformation and misconceptions have also been promulgated which brought much scare and panic to people. Running out of stock of masks and the non-stop ranting and storming towards the government are only examples of the evident manifestations of the scare. With these, it is now crucial to alleviate the scare through disseminating factual information about the outbreak coming from experts and people on top. Dr. Edsel Salvana, director of the University of the Philippines’ institute of Molecular Biology, said that the virus is not uniformly fatal and that recovery is more likely than dying from it. One evidence for this is the case of the 38-yea-old woman who had been travelling with a man who died of the virus is no longer showing symptoms and tested negative. With this kind of information, the scare that developed could die down.
