Molting feather and shedding scales for the bird and dragon shifters.

Unlike their animal counterparts, bird shifters only take one to one and a half months to shed their feathers. They absolutely have to be in their halfway forms due to their wings being the last to shed feathers or molt scales. If they are not it can cause them pain to be in their full human form as well as being incredibly itchy during that time.

Hybrid shifters that have a either have a secondary shifters form or have the combined genetics of two different types of shifters shed/molt differently then those with a single shifter form.

An example of combined shifter genetics would be Sebastian. His mother (Signý) was a dragon shifter while his father (Lothar) is a black eagle shifter. Sebastian has shifter genetics from both so he has both feather (which cover a great amount of his dragon form and his halfway form) and scales (which only cover the weak points of both forms).

An example of those with two shifter forms would be any of the Vampiric dragons (with the exception of Ragnar.) To narrow it down one of the three that are alive will be used. That one will be Azura naturally.

While Azura can fully shift into her cat form, she can't fully shift into her dragon form. She can only have the wings, horns, tail, and some scales of her dragon form. For her siblings and sons who are vampiric dragons, this would be their halfway form while for Azura it's her full dragon form. Her halfway form only has the horns and tail.

The scales of her wings, tail, and whatever scales appear on her body shed. However, she has to peel them off in certain areas due since they get stuck. She also has to be watched when she shed her scales because unlike the other vampiric dragons and normal dragons... she will eat the shed scales.

The shed feathers and scales of the bird and dragon shifters do hold magical properties and can be used in potions, spells, and medicine.

Bird shifters can also control their mottled feather and use them as weapons or to sence chages on the atmosphere and environment.
