A mismatch between the Federal Court and the Government of Canada   An applicant from Nigeria who applied for a study permit to pursue higher education in Canada got rejected for not providing sufficient funds to cover all four years   of study. The Federal Court of Canada found this decision reasonable and disagreed with the applicant that his financial statements contradicted the visa officer’s   decision. Canada added seven countries to the Student Direct Stream   On July 9, 2021, the Government of Canada added seven new countries to the Student Direct Stream (SDS). IRCC released a recommendation for international students   On April 27, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), advised study permit applicants to submit their study permit applications by May 15, 2021, should they plan to begin their study programs in the fall term. IRCC promises to process such applications by August 6, 2021. International students from India and China received more than half of the Study Permits in 2020   Canadian campuses become more Asian. According to the final data for 2020 by IRCC, India and China supplied more than half of all international students to Canada – 54.2%. Every third international student arrived from India. Every fifth student came from China. South Korea became the third biggest country of origin for international students. In the top-15 nations sending most of the students, nine are Asian countries. The only European country in the top-15 is France and most of them come to Quebec. IRCC extended PGWPP temporary measures   Great  news for international students studying abroad. On March 10, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) published a new program delivery update for Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP). The government decided to extend a temporary policy to help international students and graduates impacted by the COVID-19. For instance, students who started their programs in March 2020 and will be studying until the end of 2021, can count the whole time they were studying remotely from outside Canada for PGWP eligibility. 100% of their program duration can now be completed online without losing eligibility for a PGWP.
