Superpower Academy "Flight" Welcome Box Review

We are reviewing the Flight Welcome Box which is designed to promote a Growth Mindset, Perseverance, and Resilience. This Flight Welcome Box shipped in a black box with wording that says "Someone Thinks You Are Super". It also has a message that says this is a "Super Secret Delivery - For Kids Eyes Only". This adds to the mysteriousness of what's inside the box, all at the same time is a confidence booster for kids. I love that.

Here is our first peek into the box! The wording on the top of the box is really important. You can also see there is a super secret message box that also says to press here. When we pressed the button we got a really cool recording from "Coy" who is the Mentor to Everyone Super. He tells you about the missions that you need to complete on the right side of the box. 

Here are a couple of the informational booklets that were in the box. One is a newspaper talking about how "The World Is In Trouble". The other is a "Crash And Learn" comic book that has a story about a boy who crashed and learned on making rocket wings so he can fly, but kept trying and finally found flight.

This is an all color comic book with some awesome life lessons on growth mindset.

We also got a "Do Not Disturb" Sign. My eight year old son really love this sign and immediately put it on his bedroom door. He is often very busy "saving the world", so this door hanger was perfect for him.

We also got a box with a Superpower Toolkit.

Inside this Superpower Toolkit were some stickers, decorated blue tape, rubber bands, and metal washers.

We also got a retractable measuring tape. I think my son enjoyed this to all the most oh, because he started measuring everything in our family room. :)

The activity and ask it is making Freddie's Glider. This booklet has instructions on how to make the airplane activity in this kit.

My kids love assembling things using pictures, so I really appreciated the pictures and instructions in this booklet.

The booklet also included some areas to make flight notes and also encouraged my son to draw some pictures. This was nice because it helped to spur some creative thinking for him.

We got three wooden glider bodies that will serve as the base of our planes. These glider bodies were carved with an amazing amount of detail and precision.

We also got heavyweight sheets that had the wings with lines telling you where to cut (dotted line) and fold (red lines).

Here's a look at everything that we got in our box!

I'll show you now some photos that my son and I took while we were working on reading, learning, and creating together. 

My son was really into a comic book oh, and I made sure that he told me what he learned in the story. The moral that he came up with was "Don't Give Up". This is a lesson that sometimes even adults need to remember. :)

Then we started working on Freddie's glider activity.

My son and I started by cutting out the paper wings.

Then, as directed by the instruction booklet. He started taping the wings together.

Once he folded the wings and added them to the glider body, this is what the plane looked like.

My other two kids, who are age 12 and 10, also got to create a plane for themselves. The rubber bands were used to hold the paper wings in place on the glider body. The washers were used to help weigh the nose down.

I've heard a lot about growth mindset at  my kids' school. When kids have a growth mindset they think they have potential to succeed, which makes them put in more effort. This usually leads to higher achievement. 

In Summary Our first review of Superpower Academy was delightful! The glider activity itself was perfect for my eight year old son and me to spend some quality time together away from his iPad and our TV. While I can say Superpower Academy is somewhat similar to Kiwi crate, it also includes life lessons that will help make kids more confident and successful in general. Given all the outside influences on my kids today, I think Superpower Academy is a great choice to help supplement my parenting to help set my kids up for success in the future. Mel Kids Science Kit “Cave Sound” Review

The Mel Kids Science Kit arrived in colorful box decorated with cartoon dinosaurs. This is the first kids subscription box that I've seen with a colorful cartoon on the outside fo the box.

Here is our first peek into the box!

The back of the box tells us more about what's inside this "Cave Sound" science kit. This kit will allow my kids to assemble a real music box (awesome!), explore the nature of sound, and compose their own melodies. The scientific concepts that will be learned include how sound is created, the unexpected uses of sound, and the difference between loud and quiet, and high-pitched and low-pitched.

Here is a view of everything we saw once we lifted the activity booklet.

The activity booklet is quite substantial in weight. It is filled with full color comics and the instructions you need to assemble this music box.

Here's a look at all of the components this box contains to build the music box.

And you can see how detailed and educational the comics are. There were probably about 20 pages of educational comics in this book!

Here's a view of the instructions. What I loved about the instructions is everything was detailed in pictures - perfect for spatial reasoning and a lot faster than having read line by line instructions.

Next are the assembly pieces that we got in this kit.

These components are made of either high quality lightweight wood, metal, paper, or rubber.

Here's a view of more of the pre-cut wooden pieces.

Now, let's get on to the assembly! My 8-year old son was happy to work on this project. I also love that it wasn't a screen-based activity!

For the most part, my son could fit the wooden pieces together, but in some cases he did need my help.

My son loves to build and create, so this was a great project for him.

You can see the music box coming together now. I really like how there was a dragon theme on the wooden pieces of this music box.

Rubber bands were used to create tension on the wooden tines that will hit the metal pieces that will make the music box sounds.

Here's a close look at the metal tiles that will create music!

The wooden slotted platform was used to insert the cardboard paper at different intervals - this creates the melody and my son enjoyed making different patterns on this board.

To make the music, or cave sound in this case, the crank on the right is turned to feed the wooden platform through. When the cardboard hits the wooden tines, the top of the tines hit the metal tiles, thereby creating musical notes!

I am a huge fan of subscription box creations where kids can use them for a while. This cave sound music box is one that my son will keep in his room for quite a while!

I really loved how my son could see the inner workings of how a real music box really works. I mean, who wouldn't love that? And, he created this music box (mostly) by himself!

Learning and encourage interest in scientific concepts is important at a young age. Mel Kids made this science kit fun for my 8-year old son to build a real music box that creates sound and music.
