Exploring the Algarve, Portugal : The Algarve, located in southern Portugal, is famed for its breathtaking beaches, dramatic sea cliffs, and charming fishing villages that dot the coastline. Covering an expansive area of 4,997 km² (1,929 sq mi) along the west coast of Portugal, the Algarve offers an array of activities that can make deciding where to start quite overwhelming. This comprehensive guide will help you navigate the myriad of adventures awaiting you in this stunning region.   Renting a car in Lisbon and driving down the western coast of Portugal is one of the best ways to experience the Algarve. This road trip allows you the freedom to stop at your leisure, discover hidden beaches, and fully immerse yourself in the region's natural beauty. For the best car rental rates, visit RentalCars.com. 2. Hiking the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail One of the top activities in the Algarve is hiking the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail. This 5.7 km trail stretches from Vale Centeanes to Praia da Marinha and offers spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, stunning beaches, and dramatic limestone cliffs. Starting at Praia da Marinha, our hotel, The Tivoli Carvoeiro, provided complimentary tuk-tuk rides to the trailhead. The hike, rated as moderate, requires sturdy hiking shoes and plenty of water. For a guided experience, consider a tour from Albufeira that includes cliff jumping at Algar Seco. 3. Visiting the Benagil Cave Accessing the Benagil Cave has become a bit more complicated. While motorboats were previously the only option, kayaks or SUPs are now preferred. Regardless, booking a guided boat tour is essential to visit this iconic cave. You can only enter by boat as visitors are not allowed to set foot on the beach within the cave to preserve its natural beauty. Tours often depart from Portimão, with transfers available from Carvoeiro or Lagos. 4. Discovering Ponta da Piedade Near Lagos, Ponta da Piedade is renowned for its stunning sunset views and picturesque coastline featuring impressive cliffs, rock formations, and sea stacks. Other notable beaches include Benagil Beach, Praia Dona Ana, and Ponta de Estudantes, each offering unique attractions from dramatic cliffs to historic bridges. 7. Enjoying Nature and Wildlife The Ria Formosa Natural Park is a protected area spanning 60 km from Ancão Peninsula to Manta Rota. It’s a birdwatcher’s paradise and offers boat tours to see flamingos and traditional fishing villages. local culture, while Tavira and Albufeira offer historical and vibrant nightlife experiences. 9. The Cape St. Vincent Lighthouse, located at Europe’s southernmost point, offers stunning ocean views and is an excellent spot for sunset watching. Silves Castle provides a glimpse into the region's Moorish past with its well-preserved ramparts and archaeological museum. 10. Savoring Local Cuisine The Algarve is famous for its fresh seafood. Traditional dishes like cataplana (seafood stew) and grilled sardines are must-tries. Visit local markets in Olhão and Lagos for an authentic taste of Portuguese seafood. Additionally, the region produces high-quality wines. Consider a wine tour in Lagoa to sample local varieties and enjoy a tasting session with scenic vineyard views. 11. Attending Festivals and Events The Algarve hosts numerous festivals, especially during the summer. The Faro International Motorcycle Rally in July attracts bikers from around the world, while the Loulé Carnival in February offers vibrant parades and music.

After my visit in Germany I got a spontaneous calling for Portugal. I had never been before and I have always been wanting to go. I also have a friend their who started a surf camp for a few years ago and he have tried to push me to come visit. So no finally it happened! And oh how I loved Portugal. It was not the last time I went there. Baleal where my friends surf camp was such a cute little place. Nice beaches, amazing nature, nice restaurants, even vegan ones and hot surfer dudes. What more to wish for haha? And my friends surf camp was so amazing. If u feel like good surf, you can read about it HERE and HERE from my last blog posts about it.
After this I went up north to visit some family friends in their new house. They just moved to this cool little village named Barrantes.
Super nice with some friendly meetings but now I really had and urge to just be with myself. To just be with me without a plan. So I rented a car and went along the cost for 1,5 weeks. Stopped when I felt like it. I presterade my cars with blankets and pillows if I needed to sleep in it at some point, which I did, but mostly I found cute back packers to stay at which was really cheap.
One of my friends friends also reached out when I was on my journey, and invited me to come visit her place in Lagos. And that was in the end of my trips so I felt like som company. And this girl was the cutest ever. She is a tattoo artist so we made some cool art on my body, had naked mornings on the beach and just got to know each other. So cool when you are traveling lone what cool people you meet.
The only thing that was a bit of a hassle in Portugal was my diet, vegan and gluten-free haha. In some small fishing towns it was nearly impossible actually. Luckily I don’t care too much any more what I eat. But SOOO nice that they had so many nudist beaches in south Portugal. I got some questions of tips for the best naked beaches, and to be honest I don’t remember what their names was, but I just googled ”best nudist beaches Portugal”, and I went to those. My favorite one was one in Lagos called Praia de Carnival.

Do you have just one week to stay in Portugal on your vacation? No worries!!! You can still explore many beautiful places of Portugal during your one week stay in Portugal. Portugal is a very beautiful country and this country has many historical places, beautiful beaches, ornate architectures and traditional music. You will really enjoy your one week vacation in Portugal so clutch your caps, since it will be a fiery adventure for your Portugal holidays! Here are beautiful places where you can visit during your one week period in Portugal:
DAY: 1 & 2: The Algarve
Tumblr media
The two fundamental global Airports are in Lisbon and Porto; the third is in Faro, yet consider entering the nation through one of the initial two and afterward getting a corresponding flight to Faro. There are likewise trains and transports that head into the Algarve, however a few travelers may lean toward traveling to arrive all the more rapidly (flights from Lisbon take around 45 minutes). In the Algarve, the coast is the sparkling star and the area is fixed with shocking beaches that look too delightful to be in any way evident. Lagos, Albufeira, Portimão, and Tavira are a couple of the more well known city stops featured by fabulous beaches, ocean side caverns, and multi-conditioned precipices. You can enjoy surfing at Camilo Beach, Benagil Cave, the Beach of Three Brothers (Praia dos Três Irmãos), and the beacon at Piedade Point. If you don’t know how to surf then there is surf camp in Portugal where you can take part. They will give you surfing classes or provide you a professional, who can surf with you on the same surfboard and in this way, you won’t miss the chance to enjoy surfing on the ocean. You can also rent a boat to enjoy the beautiful views of ocean. Renting a boat is the simplest method to hop starting with one sight then onto the next. A few guests like to get in the water at the earliest opportunity, while others lean toward getting a charge out of the coast from a far distance. Trekking, surfing, sunbathing, and kayaking are only a couple of the famous activities on offer. Another gem in the Algarve is the Ria Formosa lagoon system and its islands, a characteristic fortune that is recorded as one of Portugal’s Seven Natural Wonders and situated around Faro’s coast. In the Ria Formosa, bird watching is a one of a kind treat and there are in excess of 200 feathered creature species here.
DAY: 3 & 4: Lisbon, Belém, and Sintra
Tumblr media
Drive or jump on a train and head north to Lisbon, Portugal’s enthusiastic and creative capital city. Subsequent to arriving and examining your first pastel da nata, put in a couple of hours wandering through and investigating the twisting roads of Alfama, the most established neighborhood in the city and the most mainstream spot to hear fado, Portugal’s mysteriously melancholic conventional music. An evening in Lisbon is a fantastic time to enjoy Lisbon sightseeing at night and then after that you can start your journey for Belém, where it’s conceivable to visit grand structures with noteworthy heritage importance. The Jeronimos Monastery, the Belém Tower, and the Discoveries Monument are three key milestones not to miss. Most likely, Sintra merits an entire day committed to it, so visit the day in the wake of landing in Lisbon. The most straightforward approach to arrive is via train from Lisbon’s Rossio Station (remember to snap a couple photographs of the station’s lavish passageway). The train ride keeps going about an hour and expenses €2.25 every way. It’s ideal to visit Sintra with an arrangement and realize which strongholds and royal residences you need to see most. The Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, and Castle of the Moors may seemingly be the three most well known tourist spots for first-time guests.
DAY: 5:  Douro Valley
Tumblr media
One of Portugal’s most glad customs is Port wine, and no place is this more predominant than in the Douro Valley. Home to the nation’s most lofty wineries and vineyards, the Douro Valley is an unquestionable requirement see on any voyage through Portugal.
Despite the fact that there are a couple of huge scale makers, most Port wine generation is as yet done by little makers on quintas (nation domains). A large number of these offer visitor houses, day visits, and tasting rooms so you can really absorb the wine culture. The roadside Quinta do Tedo is enchanting and family-possessed, while the bigger Quinta Pacheca has an amazing nursery yard for an evening of wine and a decent book. For a remarkable involvement in the Douro Valley, ride the as of late reestablished nineteenth century steam train to or from Porto. With Port wine served ready, you will find out about the historical backdrop of the wine while having the option to look at the shocking, bumpy landscape all around.
DAY: 6 & 7: Porto
Tumblr media
At long last, there is Porto, home of tasty croissants (simply get some information about their affection for Porto’s croissants), the francesinha calorie bomb, sweet Port wine, fresh Vinho Verde, and astonishing tourist spots that give the city its own exceptional personality. Before the part of the busy week-long voyage through this astonishing nation, it’s most likely time for a little rest and relaxation, on the whole, make a point to visit the Ribeira District for some all the more touring. History buffs may like seeing the house where Henry the Navigator was conceived, called the Casa do Infante, and you can likewise look at a portion of the extraordinary presentations of azulejo mosaics that Porto is home to. Porto’s mark sandwich, the (meat-overwhelming) Francesinha, is a prominent lunch choice and there is no place preferred to attempt it over Cafe Santiago or Bufete Fase. Make sure to advance over the Ponte Luis scaffold toward the south bank in time for dusk. The brilliant tones light up the horizon of north Porto and this sight is best delighted in from a housetop wine bar on the riverbank. South Porto is additionally a center for nightlife, so you can without much of a stretch progress after the sun goes down.
Despite the fact that there are still considerably more to see and do than the places and things mentioned here, still you can visit and enjoy Portugal’s urban areas, scenes, culture and costs make it ideal for a one-week trip.

Lagos
We spent the last 8 days surfing in Lagos, a small coastal city in the Algarve region of Portugal. No matter how fit I am before I go on a surf holiday, my body always feels totally unprepared for the pounding it receives from the ocean. There is nothing quite like the exhaustion, but also the satisfaction, I feel after a day of surfing. We were disappointed initially due to the arrival of a massive swell at the beach where we had signed up for our surf camp. We weren't comfortable surfing out beyond the break by ourselves in 8 to 9 foot waves, but also felt that the beginner lessons in the white water were too easy. We were eventually able to reach a compromise where the instructors gave us exercises to perform in the white water to help perfect our technique while we waited for the swell to get smaller. We practiced popping up on the board, turning in one direction, getting down and then up again, then turning the other direction, all while riding the same wave. By our final two days of surfing, the outer waves had died down to a more manageable 4 to 5 feet and we felt comfortable going out beyond the break. We spent one of the two days with an instructor and the other day surfing out there by ourselves. It was satisfying to be able to work together to analyze the conditions, find a channel, paddle out, and then select and ride our own waves. This week, we have progressed both in our technique and in our ability to read the ocean and stay safe. As a bonus, we also have spectacular wet suit tans. Today, we took a day off from surfing to go kayaking through the amazing vertical eroded rock cliffs that make the Lagos beach so unique. We also hiked along the tops of the cliffs and had a beautiful view of the beach and the Atlantic Ocean. While in Lagos we also met some wonderful people from all over the world. Constantly meeting new travellers is one of my favourite parts of backpacking. We are now in Faro, a quieter town also in the Algarve region. We have one day there before we leave for Spain!

Plage da Bordeira - Aljezur - Algarve - Portugal Coordonnées GPS:  37.196867, -8.908003

Boys Only Sommer 2017, Lagos in Portugal. Aber meine schwarzen Freunde sagen sowieso von mir: "Pretty white for a black guy".
Boy Only? Challenge accepted.

We surfed on the beaches every day and it was such a huge gorgeous beach.
When we got there everyday we would all work as a team to take the boards down to the water and set our base camp. The surf instructors back at the lodge had already put us in groups of our skills. I was in the beginner group because lets be honest I’ve never been that great at it. They would usually take us to two different beaches but the surf I believe was dead on the south coast but amazing on the west, so thats where we went (But if someone I went with actually knows what beach we went too I’d love to know please, I can’t remember, oops!).
To get down to the beach we had to walk down a boardwalk, through where the sea on high tide cut off the boardwalk onto the beach, and then further down the beach to set up camp. They usually had a gazebo and then we’d set up and leave all our stuff around the Gazebo during the day. You had sunbathing time every day on the beach too which was always lovely.
They took each groups in the water for two sessions a day for two hours each session, although you could get out when you wanted and if you didn’t want to surf at all but still come to the beach you could! Or you could stay at the lodge if you didn’t fancy it which some days I really didn’t. So pool days were on the cards occasionally! They would show you how to do certain things before each session, you’d warm up and they would sometimes show you how to pop up again as its always a nice refresher. They also brought us food down to the beach for lunch! It would usually be salads, pastas and crisps and sandwiches, water too, it was all fresh and really nice after a surf session.
All the instructors are really nice, really good teachers and come on nights out with you when you go out in Lagos, they’re all up for a laugh which is always great!
There was a only a tiny little cafe on this huge beach, and there were not toilets which was always funny when 4 girls all ran off to pee in the dunes. The sea was also pretty chilly without your wetsuit on and the current was really strong in the water so we weren’t allowed to far out without some sort of supervision of the instructors.

It was a really beautiful beach, I don’t think I’ve ever been to a prettier beach and the swell was really good.
It was always so good to surf and I always came home covered in sea salt and with beach curls I never wanted to wash out, well and truly shattered and ready for bed. Its  my all time favourite feeling.  I love the beach too much.

Porto
Porto, the country’s second largest city, was our last stop in the north of Portugal. We liked the city but our Airbnb hosts were what made our experience there so special.
Aurora and Alberto run a yoga studio out of the basement of their house and allowed us to join all their classes. They gave us a tour of their garden that included avocado, plum, pear, lemon, and orange trees, as well as giant bushes of roses, verbena, mint, and jasmine. They fed us homemade yogurt and jam in the morning and gave us excellent restaurant and site seeing information. They were truly incredible hosts.
We spent our first day exploring Porto’s long beach. The next day we followed our hosts’ recommendations and visited many smaller, less touristy sites such as the bank of materials, a photography museum housed in a converted prison, and a traditional Portuguese market. We had lunch at the Porto artists’ cooperative and tried fig and port gelato. Our one typical tourist stop was the Livraria Lello: a famous bookstore that is considered the most beautiful in the world. We rounded out our visit by doing a tour and tasting at one of the many Port wineries. One of the most interesting things we learnt is that to be officially called “port”, the grapes for the wine must be produced in the nearby Douro Valley and all are hand picked by the locals.
Now, we are in Lagos for a week long surf camp. We enjoyed our time in the north but it’s very exciting to be back out on a surf board.
