#suschallenge of today (it’s been a while) is not ugly at all. I was looking for photos of girls with bigger noses, cause don’t y’all get tired of the same face over and over around Pinterest and Instagram? Can we just celebrate bigger noses?? In fact, I was looking for big noses AND thin lips, but turns out you can only have one. Pinterest has NO interest in showcasing women who have both, so just pick one and “fix” the other. Also, let’s talk about the fact that when you search for big nose girls, a lot of “before” images come up. Like, wtf? And thin lips, the only results that come up is how to make your lips look fuller. . I know, I know. Pinterest just follows the trends. People are the ones who put the content in there. But, damn. That is concerning. Aren’t you concerned? . I never thought I had as many ugly features as these days. And I grew up pretty much feeling quite unattractive, which was (still is) the norm. But now, this current beauty standard just tells you straight what is wrong with your appearance (and how you to fix it, just search the number of teenagers having fillers - swipe). And even though I’m older and wiser, I sometimes fall into the trap of self hatred and hunting for flaws. Fuck that. Young girls will turn out such unhappy grown women with extremely low self-esteem, and that is exactly society’s plan. #sewroritysewtember Day 4 Stash. This one's a bit shameful. My stash is way larger than I need. I recently did the Stash Until September challenge with @lifeandpeacequiltco From July until September I only sewed from my stash and did not buy any fabric. I was gifted fabric in exchange for blog posts, but didn't buy any. Today I sat down to figure out how much I used. I used 27 yards and 28 fat quarters. I am going to continue to sew from my stash. I will try not to buy too much fabric and will likely only buy quilt backings and new collections from Anna Maria Horner. #suschallenge - I’m focusing a lot on “troubles” in my mind, but that’s just what I’m using as inspiration to create. I’ve always been a person who needs to feel good to be inspired, and feels uninspired when feeling down. Which makes me feel even worse, because I can’t be productive in my lows. BUT, I decided I want to change that. And let the “bad” inspire me too. I’m not romanticizing mental struggles, I’m stating that they exist, and they can be a source of inspiration too. We need to navigate in balance, not avoid the good or the bad for inspiration. Find inspiration everywhere. #suschallenge day 6 - @rayssalealsk8 Fadinha do skate. . For those who don’t know, Rayssa Leal won second place 🥈 in the Street skateboard competition at the Olympics. She is 13 years old. She’s Brazil’s little fairy. She’s already inspiring other little girls to pick up the skateboard. . I wish I had seen posts from feminist accounts in English about this competition. The three girls who made the podium were kids (13 / 13 / 16). That says a lot about what is to come in the future of female skateboarding. Covering that could be a huge inspiration for young girls. . I'm an environmental scientist and I really hate to waste anything. I love quilting because I feel like every scrap can be used in some form or fashion. I used scraps from previous @minervadotcom projects in my newest project. When scraps are too small, I put them in bags and use them for stuffing cat beds and other items.
