The boat to Bélóstáin was empty. It seems the vacation spot that was once renowned had been decimated to a simple location on a map. Was it Martha’s fault? Had her going here caused all of this? Was Datura-

She pushes the thought away and continues to blankly stare at the scenery that goes along with her. As she looks at the flowers that cover the plane, memories begin to surface. Memories of times she wishes to forget, memories of times she wishes she could repeat over and over again. 

Memories of a faint, perhaps odd, smile adorning the face of a woman she would always remember. 

She knew she had no business coming back here, especially after everything that had happened. It had only been a few years, 3 at best. Coming back would bring terrible thoughts to the residents, surely. 

Though, how could she possibly care? She desperately needed to see someone. 

The boat comes to a stop, a loud sound blowing from the horns, signaling everyone that was on to get off. Martha being the only “everyone”. Her steps off the boat were hurried, already grabbing her belongings and making her way to the entrance. 

Her quick pace alerted no one, as no one was there to be alerted. The once already sparsely populated location seemed even more bare. Did that mean that Datura was also gone? 

Has this entire mission gone to waste?

She steeled her resolve, something she had to do often in the military, and continued on. She knew the path well, having taken it multiple times during her last stay. Most would’ve thought that by now she would’ve surely forgotten. How could she? How could she erase the memory of a path that took her to the greatest joy she’s had? 

The familiar house comes into view, and Martha lets out a breath she didn’t realize she didn’t take. 

Her footsteps stop at the door, leaving her into her own thoughts for a short while. She scans the house much more, seeing as how it didn’t seem to be taken care of for quite a while. This wasn’t very surprising considering how often Datura neglected her own needs. The house that appeared to be devoid of life, though, made Martha a bit worried. Maybe something had happened to her?

She banged on the door to make the thoughts clear out. 

It took quite a few knocks for a voice (How much she missed that lovely sound-) to speak up from behind the door. 

“…Who is it.”

As melancholy as ever, it seems, and Martha wouldn’t have it any other way

Swaytura huh.... *tips hat* I haven't heard that name in 100 years...

Sway and Datura is a mess. But i don't think... their love one-way personally.

They both have reasons for not expressing themselves

Sway knows she can't be with Datura because of her job: investigating into the Melodis affairs means theres risk to bringing harm to Datura. Sway can't remain in one place.

Datura knows she can't be with Sway because she has Belostain to watch, even if the people denounce her. Her priority is led of the island before anything. For the sacrifice of one, multiple people are safer.

But it still leads to them coming together: their feelings start messing with what they thought was their main priority.

Sway sees Datura in every butterfly she sees, every bug, every flower and every petal. And that night she'd remember a random fact told by Datura that lulled her off to sleep.

Datura hears Sway in the silence of her residency, open windows or the lingering presence of soot in places it shouldn't be. They were signs that Calamus was alive.

Duchess think Sway is sus cause shes been so awkward and weird about the details of her mission.

Sway tries so hard to not disclose anything about Belostain, then blabbers all about it to Phonograph one day

Sway is sent back to Belostain pronto 👌👌👌 because the Duchess knows about the regret of leaving someone precious behind.

Datura lingers in Belostain... But she gains the courage to leave.

Datura takes the step to live for herself and not the island by indulging in her own feelings.

One of her feelings tells her to find Sway, and so begins the mission for either Sway or Datura to seek the other out

WHEN THEY MEET

its soo awkward : theyre both so awkward at relationships

but they take a chance

it starts off with little things: Sway does some chores at Datura's place, Datura gives gifts to Sway and it repeats the opposite way around the next day

By morning, Sway takes Datura out to meet new people and shows her new places

They relax at night by talking, and Datura teaches Sway all about entomology

One night they finally hold hands (by accident) when Sway touches one of Datura's specimens and Datura guides Sway to be gentle with them

after that, they start to hold hands more frequently!!

Sway starts off almost all the hand holds!! Datura is too composed and Sway is just desperate ( Datura would start it but she thinks its funnier this way )
