i only ever liked her because of her songs. when i was younger, i thought she was a mildy decent person (as far as how much decent a celebrity can be) but her actions for the past five years or so ruined it for me. i never liked being associated with her fandom as a whole bc that bunch is a pain in the ass. i still like her work. it’s not bad, just regular to any other artists. but her actions make even my favorite songs sound somewhat bitter nowadays.

I think that's my takeaway, as well. I find her to be just sort of bland and basic when compared to other artists, like off brand paper towels. I just don't get the hype.

from a lyrical perspective a lot of Taylor's song do echo typically gay themes (anxiety over love and hidden love) but sadly most of the evidence beyond that is her saying a few ambiguous things and also some not very ambiguous things ("a community I'm not a part of") so I take her saying that dating and writing about it in the public eye like she has since before she was an adult took a toll on her, and it just happens to be in a very similar way a lot of gay people experience these feelings. Either way by publically talking about her longterm boyfriend, to me it seems she doesn't really want anyone to speculate. She could be bi I guess, but it comes off as if she doesn't really want to be seen as bi to me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

It’s frustrating mostly that most of the Swiftcourse clearly hasn’t actually critically evolved in any way, it’s still the same I’m Not Like Other Girls I Listen To Real Music, but instead of examining their view about powerful women and how much of their weird baggage they clearly project onto her, they now just know the right woke-ese to dodge criticism.

It is. Frustrating. All useful conversation about Swift is completely muddled by the fact that everyone has decided that she’s just like their bully from high school.

desperately miss when only the swifties cared about an album release because why are random people who admit they do not care about Taylor making analysis posts about the lyrics. that’s not for you. you don’t even know what that means. for every random lyric Taylor throws into a song there is another lyric that requires at least 7 years of lore to fully understand.
