Silly question- all of beautiful "Autobot/Decepticon" armor (what's the non-robot description for group vaguely aligned w/ Omar vs those with Morgan?) Their armor is personalized and reflects their background. Where does it come from? A few might have things from former lives, but others? Scifi future 3D printer? Everyone cobbles from old war tech? Some armorer person they can go to?

The earliest version of the armor you see most Decepticons and Autobots wearing were Shockwave’s creations! Specifically those worn by Starscream and the Seekers, Megatron and Optimus---these were prototypes Senator Shockwave was creating as defense for the rebels during the increasingly violent Clampdown. 

Ravage’s cat-armor pieces were actually forged/handmade by Megatron himself, who had some experience welding/cobbling together armor from his time in the Pits; He made it for Ravage after it was clear that the armor prototypes made by Shockwave did not account for Ravage’s transformation and rather than having Ravage go into battle in Beast Mode completely unprotected, he decided he would make it himself if he had to.  It’s one of the reasons why Ravage is so loyal to Megatron---because Megatron saw both parts of him as worthy of protection.

Within the Decepticon army, the basic body of the armor is programmed by Shockwave and the crafting is usually made by Megatron, who uses these sessions to get to know his soldiers better. Most of the items needed are bought from Swindle or mugged from the dead bodies of the Senate/their soldiers--it’s normal for them to basically stripmine the Senate’s forces for supplies once said forces are killed. 

Within the Autobots, the armor is programmed by Wheeljack (who is a pioneer in bionic prosthetics) and made by Optimus, Kup (who knows military specs) and Hotrod (who knows his way around a forge). Most of the items needed are salvaged with the help of Kup’s Wreckers (most who are former soldiers) and Jazz (who knows some friendly dealers underground) or paid for by Mirage. 

Kup’s armor was made by herself, though it was upgraded once Wheeljack came into the scene. 

Chromia and Windblade have armor from their time on Caminus to keep themselves safe when going outdoors to ground-level since Venus’ surface is highly volatile.
