silence. pasha doesn't say anything, but then there's a sudden bitterness. bubbling. burning. the vampire scoffs. "you can be so cruel, taehyun," is what he ends up mumbling. because who would say such a thing? shed light on the one thing pasha has craved-- humor it and breathe life into it-- knowing very well it will be buried in the backyard. cold. "you give me a run for my money."

“i put up a good fight, but i lost.” taehyun x pasha

     "hm. i see." pasha leans down to pick up the styrofoam sword wedged between taehyun's arm and chest. svetlana walks over to perform a toddler's version of cpr, seemingly regretting the vicious nature of her victory. his toddler's been absolutely infatuated with the reaper since their first meeting, and pasha will never deny his daughter something that makes her so happy and is, above all, harmless. as much as he adores being a father, he is not always as elated to be a playmate. having taehyun come around gives pasha another adult to converse with (one that isn't human, or unbearable) and svetlana someone who can reach big heights during pretend.

     "see, lana, this is why you cannot depend on men. they are so... fragile." he bonks taehyun on the head with the toy, to his daughter's giggly delight. "only depend on papa, yeah?" pasha stands back up with a faint smile. "how about some lunch? even losers deserve to eat." he nudges taehyun with his foot, an invitation to join them for a meal.

[Text:] haha... You are smaller than me.

In a cute way... Tae-hyun won't add that. Pasha came off extremely fierce, but that didn't change the fact that he was small in comparison!

[Text:] It's alright, I'll find something. I don't want to bother you about this too much if you're busy.

[to; taehyun] bring some clothes with you as well. i'll need clean ones when i'm done.

the dhampir pushes blood matted strands of blonde from his face before typing out his next response.

[to; taehyun] and no ice cream. she will ask you for ice cream. you will say no. i donʻt want her to spoil her dinner. she has snacks in the cabinets.

[Text:] Is there anything I can do to help you remotely? I could bring her to my apartment where my computer is. I have a meditation room she might like (not for meditating).

Huh? Tae-hyun paused momentarily... before laughing a little. He had only done some cleaning after cooking Pasha and Svetlana dinner! It hardly warranted praise. Nobody had ever said anything like that to him before. He could only assume it was some sort of tease.

The reaper smiled and responded in a playful tone, "What is my reward, master?" Completely naive to the hidden meaning behind what he was saying, he threw the towel in his hands to Pasha's chest. "Ai'oo."

"I'm leaving..." No, Tae-hyun was not the type to have unprovoked dirty thoughts about people... but... he maybe had a small fantasy - something he was curious about. A life with a family wasn't something he'd ever gotten to experience before, and the idea of the possibility was a beautiful one. The daydream of being part of them. Being there in the mornings, brushing Pasha's hair, going to make breakfast for them all, eating together and talking about their days ahead. Returning home to find comfort in one another. To play games and have something inherently fulfilling and loving. A sweet and meaningful life. No matter how inaccurate it might be to reality, fantasies are fantasies in the end.

[to; taehyun] take her to the penthouse in the city. the one i showed you last week. you have access to it.

[to; taehyun] stay with her until i call you. it will be an hour or so.

pasha sends taemin and taehyun a handful of plane tickets to tahiti, along with some reservations for a swanky resort for two weeks. they can choose to bring a plus one. or not... the note that's attached to the discreet but tasteful package only says stay out of my hair. x pasha

"Hyung... You should invite Pasha to be your plus one."

"He literally told us to stay away from him in the note."

"This is a big gift though and he paid enough for four people..."

"Then let him be your plus one. You invite him."

"He's your friend. Wouldn't it be weird if I ask him? You should."

"What will he do with Svetlana while he's on holiday?"

"He could bring-"

"Aiyah. This isn't a playground. Why would Pasha want to bring his little daughter here? Look at the pictures."

"I'm sure he can figure out something. I'll invite Ange as well... that would be nice, wouldn't it? Both of our... friends?"

Tae-min sighed and waved him off. The idea of Ange coming was definitely... interesting.... to put lightly. Plus, Tae-hyun inviting her would be the only way she could come. It would be too weird for him to! "Araso. Go call Pasha and Ange. You can tell Pasha it was my idea if you want. Alright?"

Tae-hyun smiled and nodded, already getting his phone out to call Pasha.

very, very interesting. pasha watches closely but is sure to keep his expression relatively flat even though he is impressed. impressed and ultimately curious. taemin spoke (and complained, thoroughly) as though his brother were completely harmless. it seemed that harmlessness was purely by choice.

svetlana watches taehyun carefully, head turning this way and that, going on her tiptoes or bending down to get a better view. when taehyun begins pulling out the rose, svetlana squees in confused elation. toddler language for 'wow! so pretty!'. it's very clear from her wide eyes and the way she bounces that she likes it a lot! she blows a kiss, which is how her father taught her to say thank you while she had no interest in verbally communicating before gently taking the rose.

careful to not disrupt the petals or leaves, svetlana toddles over to where pasha is sat on one of her toy chests to offer the rose to him.

"it is a gift for you, my sunshine--!" pasha says in russian but his smile is uncontainable. he takes the rose, since svetlana continues to hold it out for him. "if you give away all your gifts, what will you be left with, hm?" he asks once again in their mother tongue and reaches out to tickle her side. svetlana giggles-- pure joy that pasha will never tire of hearing, before running off to grab something. "thank you," he says half to svetlana and half to taehyun.

"she's going to get you something now. she is keen on trading..."

Tae-hyun is overjoyed by the reaction, he is so glad that Svetlana likes his gift. To see her offer it to Pasha only made him laugh. So sweet and innocent. It filled him with such warmth. He was jealous, actually. Whenever he interacted with a child it was the same feeling; oh, to have one of my own.

"Ah... I would be very honoured to receive a gift from her." He slowly stood, dusting off his trousers. Now that they're alone, he feels a little embarrassed with how readily he had spoken to Svetlana. He's here on business, after all, Tae-min's friend or not. Should he had kept it professional...?

"Was that Russian? It sounded beautiful."

a dismissive wave of his hand at taehyun's concerns. "i'm older than i look. i've been doing this a while. we are otherwise fine security wise." and ever since svetlana was born, pasha had been nothing but paranoid when it came to security and privacy. "the playground is right outside. we can stop by if you'd like to see it."

magic? pasha raises a brow. svetlana, however, is absolutely taken with their company. little teeth, barely grown in and still sparse, flash with her big smile. at taehyun's question, the toddler looks back to her father, as if for guidance. pasha offers a fond smile and a nod, gesturing to say 'go on'.

with her father's support, svetlana turns back to taehyun to wait patiently for magic!

"That would be good." After this, of course! Tae-hyun matched her expression, grinning happily at her beautiful face. He glanced back at Pasha, ensuring he had full permission before holding up the cup.

The cup was tilted all sorts of ways, letting Svetlana get a good look at it. "See how it's empty since I drank aaall of your yummy coffee? Look what happens when..." It was held steady properly. Index and thumb reached inside, and as his hand raised it seemed as though he was pulling something out of it. More and more of a rose made of never-melting ice was revealed, first the stem, then frozen leaves, then finally the petals were visible. He turned it around to hold it upright and offered it out. "Do you like it?"

listening carefully to taehyun's recommendations, questions, and stipulations, pasha's eyes linger on his daughter as he responds.

"hm. i'd like to hear her as she plays. she's..." he was never one to divulge information where it did not need to divulged. however, if there was ever a time to talk about such a thing, it was now. taehyun seemed to understand the gravity of surveying the room. "she is not as talkative as her pediatrician expects her to be. i wonder if that changes when she is alone, and if she simply has nothing worthwhile to say around adults." in fact, svetlana was almost completely nonverbal. it worried him, though he'd never admit that out loud.

"i video chat with her and her nanny at least four times a day through our phones, so that isn't necessary. i'm sure she would think i was paying a trick on her if she could hear my voice but not see my face." svetlana has taken to putting some tea sets on her tiny table as the adults spoke.

"make papa a coffee, lana. with lots of chocolate," he instructs in a much more expressive tone than he has when lana isn't present. the toddler looks to her father, and then to the tea pot she has on her table before going to retrieve her designated "coffee" tea pot.

"mm. she usually does not play outside without me. though maybe i will consult you to install some cameras outside by her playground." did a toddler need an entire playground all to herself? absolutely not.

svetlana brings pasha his "coffee"-- a purple (her favorite color) cup and mismatched plate. "wow, how much is this coffee today? it looks very good..." svetlana looks pleased before rushing over to her table to get another cup and saucer set, this time offering it to taehyun.

pasha is surprised, to say the least. she didn't take kindly to supernatural strangers. perhaps taehyun just had a way with children. interesting.

The reaper nodded in understanding. It was a little sad, but he knew every child was different. He had blessed many children and newborns as a monk, so despite never having his own he had been around a great many. "How far away is the playground from here? These cameras will need internet connection - ah, that reminds me. Do you use a basic provider? If so, things might not be as secure as you'd want. I can work something out for you with who we use if you'd like."

Tae-hyun watched their interaction fondly. She was ridiculously cute, and he could tell Pasha was trying to be a good parent. Oh - he gets to be included in this play, too?

Tae-hyun gasped happily and lowered to his knees taking the cup and saucer and pretending to drink. He made a noise of pleasure. "Wahhh, thank you so much, miss. Can I ask... do you like magic? And do you like flowers?" Would she run away before he could give her a little present?

one well manicured brow raises at taehyun's knee jerk question. "do i look like i am expecting?"

the vampire nods along to the other's suggestions. it would be easy enough. they had extra rooms for exactly this purpose, though he wasn't sure if his daughter would be keen on a change of play space. sometimes she could be territorial, or simply difficult.

"is there--" he freezes mid question. ears perk. svetlana was awake from her nap. "excuse me. i will be back."

he's upstairs in an instant to retrieve his daughter, who waits patiently by the baby gate blocking off his room. pasha had scheduled to meet at this time, anticipating that svetlana would be her usual combative self before nap time, thus extending nap time. however, she had been nothing but compliant today, and napped without a fuss. right on schedule, which means she also woke up right on schedule.

"how is my sunshine?" pasha coos in russian before bending down to pick her up. he so hated to call on her nanny when he was home. he would take any and all time he possibly he could spend with his daughter. so...

"sorry for the interruption," he says as he slips back into the playroom with the toddler balanced on his hip. svetlana stares at taehyun, wide eyed but not afraid, just curious. "she screams her head off when she sees your brother. odd that she is so quiet... say hello, svetlana," he waves his hand to signal for her to follow. svetlana does, albeit shyly, and pasha gives her a proud smile. the child wiggles to tell her dad to let her down. he does, and watches as she toddles over to a rounded shelf to retrieve one of her tea sets.

"what was i... ah, is there a way to pick up audio clearly from around the room? i am willing to pay for separate devices."

... He awkwardly shook his head...

The relief he felt when Pasha left was unparalleled. He got to work measuring and estimating and writing up his thoughts and the plan ahead. Pasha seemed like the type of person who would want specific dates and timeframes, so he started to figure out all the fine details while he waited.

With his supernatural hearing, Pasha's voice was stil audible. Russian? He had always thought the language sounded beautiful.

Pasha's return came too quickly, but the smile on his face was instant when he saw the little girl. "Ah, that's good then. Hello, I'm Tae-hyunnie." He waved in return. So cute!! He was starting to feel jealous. He wanted a child of his own, too.

Oh right, work. He forgot. "De- on your phone you will pick which camera you want to look at and the sound will come through like that. Having separate microphones leaves room for the video and audio to be out of sync, and it causes more technical problems and will need more maintenance. If it's difficult to hear because the ceiling is high we can add one lower down. Would you want to be able to speak through your phone into the room for her to hear, too? We can get separate cameras for that. Do you have an outdoor area too that she plays in? Have you set up cameras there?"
