hi, i’m back with another song! this time it’s happy by taeyeon and i fell in love with this song the moment i heard it. every time this song comes on, i’m instantly in a happier mood hahaha

there were a couple of unfamiliar words for me here and there were some grammar that i’ve never learnt before too! it was a really helpful exercise for me this time and i hope it would be for you too 💖 i referred heavily to a few websites for the grammar rules as they are new to me so i’ve included links to those websites for further reading. they’re really great resources!

hek AK, do you know what time it is? it must be AK time to rate / talk about Taeyeon's new songs; Make Me Love You, I Blame On You & Curtain Call. :P

Are you the same anon who asked me to rate the songs in Taeyeon’s My Voice? 😝 Well, just like before, I will rate how much I love the songs (not how good they are) and talk about the songs from my musical point of view.

Make Me Love You: Right from the first second of the song, I knew I would love it. I kid you not. Okay, also maybe because there was a teaser which gave away some elements of the sound before.

The entrance of the song is grand. It opens with the C-note drone that runs throughout the rest of the song and it is huge on the echo & reverb game which gives it an open feeling. So immediately, within the first 5 seconds of the song, you get the feeling that you’re somewhere beautiful and quiet, like at the top of a mountain or something.

The reverb on Taeyeon’s voice is also really heavy to match the mood of the song and lots of echo play comes in (esp. at the ends of the phrases) in the verse that’s nearing the chorus. It opens up her voice and makes it seem grander which the music then matches and the song enters the chorus after a cool electronic slide transition.

I must say the build up is really good. It lifts you up to the chorus and then the big, big sounds and full drum loop comes in to smack you with even more big, open, mystical effects in the chorus.

The bridge is a very smooth break from the verse and chorus and I like how the sound of the song is very wholesome, cohesive and well framed throughout.

Overall, it has a “Love Me Like You Do” -ish sound where the vocals in the verse stand out against the music accompaniment that sounds like it’s stretching out behind and later in the chorus, gels together in an epic way. I would say this is a very, very expensive sounding song.

Is this the first K-pop song that has a chorus that is 100% in English? HAHAHA. And OH MY GOD the first & final airy “Make me love you…” is just perfect as the opening and ending. Perfect from beginning till the end. (10/10 💗 )

[And after thinking about it a little, I think C5 and D5 are Taeyeon’s sweet spots. So far, based on the songs that I pitched, I’ve noticed that her choruses usually hover around C5 and D5 where she belts. And in this song, the climax line where she comes back and belts out “Make me love you” the strongest has her belting G4,A4,D5,C5 with a long sustained note on C5.]

I Blame On You: This is a song that allows Taeyeon’s vocals to come out so beautifully. Just a piano accompaniment of bare minimum block chords for the first verse. So quiet, so emo.

Taeyeon’s voice is so clean and clear. She has a really pure voice that is perfect for songs like these. She allowed her voice to be really solid and thick in the chorus, like she’s crying out, which is a stark contrast to her airy, soft voice in the verse that makes you think of a crumpled person in a dark room, sad and tired. I love how she nips some of the endings of the phrases or smooths them out with a curve/down-scoop. And the best thing of all, she can sing it all like she’s just talking in one voice. Emotional! (8.5/10 💗 )

Curtain Call: Another song that sounds expensive right from the first 30 seconds hahaha. Big sounds, wide and open again. Very rich sound. Also plenty of reverb thrown on her voice again and nice layering of harmonies behind to make her sound even fuller. But the song does not have as strong a hook as MMLY. The chord progression and overall sound makes me think of a western band sound lol. Nice but not so memorable. (7/10 💗 )

Không ngoại lệ, mặc dù là nhóm nhạc nữ hàng đầu được yêu thích và sở hữu lượng fan đông đảo tại Hàn lẫn các nước châu Á nhưng SNSD vẫn có những khoảnh khắc từ “siêu đáng yêu” cho đến không thể đỡ” nổi , bất chấp hình tượng khi tham gia Running Man.

Ngay sau khi nhấc bổng Yoo Jae Suk lên không trung, trong sự bất ngờ của các khách mời và thành viên Running man và anh “ châu chấu” Yoo còn đang mải phàn nàn, Kim Jong Kook lập tức “nhúng” nửa người trên Yoo Jae Suk xuống bùn rồi nhấc lên.

Hành động “ táo bạo” này của Kim Jong Kook ngay lập tức khiến cho không chỉ khán giả mà những người chứng kiến phải náo loạn, sửng sốt.

Khi tiếng cười và bàn tán còn chưa kết thúc thì Yoo Jae suk còn liên tục phải “ ngụp lặn” trong bùn thêm hai lần nữa trước khi Kim Jong Kook thả anh xuống.

Nhưng trong khi đang ấm ức vì bị “ức hiếp” Yoo Jae Suk đã hỏi lại làm sao vòi nước có thể rửa sạch được “ nỗi nhục của động vật ăn cỏ” trong trái tim đã bị Jong Kook hành hạ và sau đó Mc Yoo lại bùng nổ “ cơn giận” và lao xuống đằm mình trong bể bùn…

Điều này lại càng khiến cho khách mời và các thành viên khác càng buồn cười hơn nữa.

Cuối cùng, khi đã phần nào nguôi ngoai và làm sạch người thì trớ trêu thay vòi nước mà PD gợi ý lại không có nước chảy ra và ngay lập tức cơn cuồng nộ lại xảy ra MC lập tức “ gào thét” phân bua với PD và lại màn “ ăn vạ”…

Việc phải chịu màn tắm bùn thực sự là một trải nghiệm “ khổ đau và đáng quên” của Mc Yoo nhưng anh đã được an ủi là cả đội đỏ (Yoo Jae Suk – Kang Gary- ji Suk Jin – Lee Kwang Soo và cả Song Ji hyo cũng đều chung số phận.

Thậm chí, Ji Suk Jin và Lee Kwang Soo còn phải chịu những màn “ hành hạ thể xác” kinh khủng hơn nữa.

So I'll start off by saying I'm probably not the best type of fan that an idol would want to have. Reason being, I did plan/wish to stop being a fan at a few points along the way. Even now, when I no longer have any plan to stop loving Taeyeon, I still wish I can love her less than I currently do. I often have this talk with my friends, when they totally don't get my actions and I would simply tell them that kpop fans are among the most emotionally invested. As someone who tries to and pretends to be rational, I certainly don't wanna be this emotionally invested. Especially in someone who probably won't ever know my name. That's the (pretending) rational part talking. I came to know Taeyeon during a very tough chapter of my life, and I precisely remember the first day I started noticing/watching her, because it was such a miserable day - missing my flight and being stranded in stupid Abu Dhabi. And I fell for the woman, fast. How could I not? When her smile automatically made me smile along. When her songs accompanied me during countless sleepless nights. When she quickly and easily became my precious source of happiness. When the petite, seemingly fragile A4 paper human was actually such a strong and admirable inspiration. My whole life I never had an idol, not just in the kpop idol meaning. There were people I admired and respected, but never that much. Then Taeyeon came. I was grateful. And I thought to myself, I need to repay this idol of mine for all that she's unknowingly done for me. Hence came all the things a fan would do: buy her music, stream her MV. My money's going into her pocket as a token of my gratitude, materialistic me reasoned. But I knew I had it bad because it wasn't just that. I wanted to defend her and showcase my love for her. To watch her everything and try to learn more about her. To meet her and hear her singing live. To do all the things I consider so uncharacteristic of me. I wanted to stop. I no longer need Taeyeon as a source of happiness (well, I do, but not that much anymore). I've repaid her in my own ways. If possible, I'd want to keep lowkey following her activities and support her by buying her music only. But again, kpop fan, too emotionally invested. Hence, I wanted to drop her altogether. But how could I when I simply love her so much and want so badly to be a tiny part of her source of happiness, as she is mine? I've relented, I can't. Especially after going to Persona. After hearing happiness in her voice when we cheered so loudly. After seeing how good she is, how good she's become for our sake. After looking at her attentively and realizing the 10 years that passed by. The years've been a friend to her, and we fans often muse to ourselves on how that kid leader still looks like a kid. But I could see it, since I adored fetus baby Taeng so much. There've been so many ups and downs, she's no longer that kid. Yet at the same time, she's still that kid. Just a much, much better version. And that much better version of the kid leader Taeng made Persona a very magical experience. The music quality, the stage design, the screens, the VCRs, the lightning, the fan projects, the interaction. The happiness shared between people who love and cherish each other. I was simply blown away. And I thought to myself, people who don't experience the love between an idol and fans, won't understand it. All unconditional love is equally beautiful. She doesn't have to love us and give us that much, but she does. I don't have to be this devoted, but I am. I should treasure this feeling I have for her because it's beautiful and precious. Taeyeon is beautiful and precious. I wish for nothing but her happiness, and I know she wants the same thing, despite not even knowing who I am. She kept mentioning how she felt like she receive so much from us fans despite not giving that much. If I ever have a chance to meet her, I would tell her that I feel the same. Knowing and loving Taeyeon had never been a part of my life plan. I'd been listening to kpop for over a decade, yet I never let myself be pulled in this deep, until Taeyeon. But, it's been a pleasant twist of fate. "It’s the beauty of life, isn’t it? To do things, to go places, to meet people and to nurture loves we never even imagined." Fast forward a few years, I probably won't spend this much time on her, be this focused on her. Tbh it'd be better and healthier for me. But she will always, always, hold such a soft spot in my heart. I'm so certain to the point I can promise I'll be here for her, supporting her for as long as the girl will be singing. We want to be your strength, our voice. When we see you, a smile leaks out. We don't want to part with you. And we won't. I won't.
