For the first time in a looooonnggg time I finally managed to sit through and finish a film, and this one an English-subtitled Japanese period drama based on a fictionalized account of the marriage and romance between Lord Oda Nobunaga and his wife, Lady No.

Of course, the history of Japan in these era of warlords and domains fighting for ultimate supremacy and the position of Shogun is well-known and heavily documented. Lord Nobunaga’s name is one that most people, even foreigners, are quite familiar with. But the film doesn’t focus on these historical events and on Nobunaga’s exploits as one of the foremost warlords of Japan. Rather, it tells the tale of what may have transpired when the paper screens have been drawn and we are left with Oda Nobunaga, the man, and his fract yet passionate and abiding romance with his wife, Nohime.
