Ten riders set for Title Fighter decider as Mackenzie wins the Pirelli Race of Ace
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tarran Mackenzie celebrated victory in the closest Bennetts British Superbike Championship race finish of the season so far, winning race three at Snetterton by just 0.048s from Tommy Bridewell to secure the Pirelli Race of Aces trophy. The pair have confirmed their Title Fighter status in the Showdown, but with three races remaining next weekend at Silverstone, ten riders remain in contention to land the final four places. The battle for the Title Fighter position intensified in Norfolk as the pack concertinaed in the standings after today’s two races. Christian Iddon’s fifth place in race three made him the fourth rider to be confirmed for the final three-round Showdown, with Peter Hickman just missing out by a single point as he prepares to cement his position at Silverstone next weekend. The second race of the weekend was another three-way scrap at the front between the McAMS Yamaha pairing of Jason O'Halloran and Mackenzie, as Oxford Products Racing Ducati’s Bridewell again locked horns with the boys in blue. O’Halloran upped the stakes after losing out to the pair yesterday, emerging ahead following an intense last lap battle with his two closest rivals. Bridewell had managed to split the teammates by half race distance after O’Halloran ran wide at Wilson, but the championship leader was soon attacking the Oxford Products Racing Ducati contender to regain the position. In the closing stages, O’Halloran had taken the lead on lap 13 with a decisive move at Wilson on Mackenzie, but the pair had Bridewell pushing them both until he had a moment at Coram when he caught his knee slider on the grass. He saved a crash, but just lost a few hundredths of a second to the leading pair ahead of the final two laps. On the penultimate lap, Mackenzie held the lead, but O’Halloran fought back at Brundle to take the position. However, it wasn’t over and on the final lap, Mackenzie regained the advantage on the brakes into Agostini. O’Halloran was piling on the pressure and made his move at the end of the Bentley Straight, then defended hard to take the chequered flag by 0.305s from Mackenzie, as Bridewell claimed a consistent third place. A dramatic race three eventually featured the same trio tussling for the podium positions, as Mackenzie dealt his rivals a winning blow in an intense five-lap dash following an earlier red flag, to secure the Pirelli Race of Aces trophy. When the race got underway, Mackenzie launched to the front of the pack with a lightening start from pole position to lead Gino Rea and O'Halloran into Riches for the first time. However, championship leader O’Halloran was back ahead of the pack by the end of the opening lap as Bridewell had also pushed Mackenzie down the order into third. By lap five, Bridewell had seized the advantage at Riches with a decisive move on his McAMS Yamaha rival and he was able to fend off the teammates over the following laps before the race was red flagged on lap nine. Danny Buchan’s SYNETIQ BMW suffered a technical problem at the end of the Bentley Straight and as a result of losing fluid, he crashed heavily with Lee Jackson and Andrew Irwin also caught up in the incident. Jackson was unable to make the five lap restart due to damage to his FS-3 Racing Kawasaki, which puts him in a precarious position as he remains in eighth overall in the standings. The race restarted with a five-lap sprint to the chequered flag, but Mackenzie again got the lead off the start ahead of Rea, but the Buildbase Suzuki rider was soon under attack as Bridewell and O’Halloran both moved ahead. On the second lap, Bridewell launched his bid for the win, taking the lead into Brundle to hold the McAMS Yamaha riders behind him. Mackenzie was not defeated though; he made a move on Bridewell at Agostini on the penultimate lap to reclaim the lead with the pair going head-to-head on the final lap for the victory. A mistake from Mackenzie at Nelson wasn’t enough to give Bridewell the opportunity he needed to take the win and just 0.048s separated the pair at the chequered flag with O’Halloran completing the podium line up. Defending champion Josh Brookes equalled his best result of the season with a fourth and sixth place finish today as he bids to claw back the advantage, with 13-points now separating him from eighth in the standings. Peter Hickman and Buchan hold fifth and sixth place in the standings after the pair both had a challenging weekend in Norfolk. ‘Hicky’ bounced back from tenth in race two and having to start from the back row of the grid following an issue on the grid in race three, to secure seventh for FHO Racing BMW. Honda Racing’s Glenn Irwin also endured a difficult weekend, meaning he now has just a seven-point margin over Lee Jackson, with the pair holding the final two positions inside the top eight ahead of next weekend’s crucial three races at Silverstone. Bradley Ray, Brookes, Ryan Vickers, Rory Skinner, Andrew Irwin and Gino Rea are all outside the coveted top eight, as the focus moves to Silverstone, where the final four riders who will fight for the 2021 crown will be decided next Sunday. "It was important to get a lot of podium points and to have a successful weekend with one round to go before the Showdown is key. Mackenzie becomes the fourth different race winner of 2021 Bennetts BSB
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tarran Mackenzie became the fourth different race winner of the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch this afternoon as the McAMS Yamaha rider held off the challenge from his rivals in the opening race of the weekend. Mackenzie fired the McAMS Yamaha off the pole position to take the lead in the 12-lap restarted race, ahead of Bradley Ray and Christian Iddon with Danny Buchan fourth, ahead of Tommy Bridewell, who didn’t get the launch he wanted off the line, in fifth. Iddon was pushing hard in his quest to extend his advantage at the top of the times and by the end of lap two, he had moved into second. Bridewell was also cutting his way through the pack after his poor start and he was shadowing Iddon by the fourth before making a decisive move at Surtees to move into second position. Bridewell then chased Mackenzie, but the McAMS Yamaha rider just had the edge to the chequered flag with the Oxford Products Racing Ducati rider forced to settle for second. Iddon was able to claim the final podium position though to extend his advantage over Jason O'Halloran in the standings. Buchan was in the fight for the podium positions but he just missed out for SYNETIQ BMW in fourth place, however just behind him, O’Halloran had delivered a heroic effort to move up the order from his sixth row grid start to finish in the top five. Lee Jackson led the FS-3 Kawasaki team charge in sixth place, pushing Ray back into seventh on the Rich Energy OMG Racing BMW. Rory Skinner held on to eighth place after a tough race from his front row starting position to finish ahead of defending champion Josh Brookes. Danny Kent completed the top ten for Buildbase Suzuki, nudging Glenn Irwin into eleventh for Honda Racing. Bennetts British Superbike Championship, Brands Hatch, BikeSocial Race 1 result: - Tarran Mackenzie (McAMS Yamaha) - Tommy Bridewell (Oxford Products Racing Ducati) +0.225s - Christian Iddon (VisionTrack Ducati) +1.802s - Danny Buchan (SYNETIQ BMW) +3.589s - Jason O'Halloran (McAMS Yamaha) +6.838s - Lee Jackson (FS-3 Kawasaki) +7.036s - Bradley Ray (Rich Energy OMG Racing BMW) +8.664s - Rory Skinner (FS-3 Kawasaki) +10.447s - Josh Brookes (VisionTrack Ducati) +13.494s - Danny Kent (Buildbase Suzuki) +13.856s Bennetts British Superbike Championship standings after Brands Hatch Race 1: - Christian Iddon (VisionTrack Ducati) 127 - Jason O'Halloran (McAMS Yamaha) 116 - Danny Buchan (SYNETIQ BMW) 104 - Tarran Mackenzie (McAMS Yamaha) 101 - Tommy Bridewell (Oxford Products Racing Ducati) 80 - Rory Skinner (FS-3 Kawasaki) 69 - Peter Hickman (FHO Racing BMW) 57 - Lee Jackson (FS-3 Kawasaki) 56 Tarran Mackenzie - McAMS Yamaha BikeSocial Race 1 winner "I felt strong from the previous run so I knew if I could get a good start and ride my own race I could set my own pace. In the first start I kind of gapped them a little bit so I don't know why but I had in my head that I was going to do that again. "I kept coming 'round and my board was 'plus zero, plus zero, plus zero', and at one point it was plus .3 with Tommy, but then it came straight back down again. It was a strange race because it was so short, you just kind of think 'I'm going to go balls out for 12 laps'. "It was intense, the gap didn't increase at all so I had to keep my concentration as high as possible and make sure I was as consistent as possible, which I think I was. I got a little bit of breathing room on the last couple of laps there, but I didn't let up – came across the line to get my first win of the year. "I'm really happy - flag to flag from pole position, I couldn't ask for much more. I hope we can get two more podiums tomorrow." Mackenzie and McAMS Yamaha the next new winners in 2020
Tumblr media
Tarran Mackenzie claimed a spectacular victory in the seventh round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Silverstone this afternoon, becoming the sixth different race winner of the season to give McAMS Yamaha their first win in 2020. At the start of the race, Danny Buchan launched off the pole position to lead the pack for the Rapid Fulfillment FS-3 Kawasaki team, however it was short lived as Andrew Irwin was instantly on the attack and stormed ahead before they crossed the line for the first time. Buchan was under fire from the opposition and soon it was the Honda Racing pairing at the front of the field, with Andrew leading Glenn and soon Jason O'Halloran was also in the fight for the lead, with Buchan then in fourth. On the fifth lap, Glenn Irwin grabbed the lead from his brother and the pair looked like they would try and break the pack, however O’Halloran was in close contention, and Kyle Ryde was into fourth and proving to be a threat on the Buildbase Suzuki. By lap eight Ryde had moved ahead of O’Halloran for third with the Australian also having his teammate for company, as Mackenzie sliced his way through the field from his fourth row start position. Mackenzie wasted no time in getting ahead of O’Halloran and by lap 12 he was into third place, before passing Andrew Irwin a lap later. The Honda Racing rider was trying to fight back, but a mistake into Brooklands meant he lost serious ground and then would have to do the work all over again. Read the full article

Jason O’Halloran Joins Tarran Mackenzie For McAMS Yamaha 2019 BSB Attack
McAMS Yamaha announce their twin pronged attack on the prestigious Bennetts British Superbike Championship with fast Australian Jason O’Halloran paired with last season’s Rookie sensation Tarran Mackenzie.
With the duo announced on stage at the Motorcycle Live show today after months of speculation, the team will shortly be travelling to Almeria, Spain to put their freshly prepped YZF-R1 machines through their paces.
The Lancashire based team had a successful Superbike season taking three wins and a further seven podiums in only their second year in this ultra-competitive series and will be looking for more in 2019.
One of the standout performances in the 2018 BSB season was the eye-opening progression of Tarran Mackenzie who was fearlessly fighting for podiums throughout the second half of the season. ‘Taz’ was following in the footsteps of his father, Yamaha triple BSB Champion Niall from exactly 20 years beforehand.
Joining the squad will be Australian BSB race winner Jason O’Halloran who will be bringing a wealth of experience from both racing and development. Jason is relishing the chance to ride the Yamaha YZF-R1 after leaving the relative safety of another major team to see how he can progress.
The always enthusiastic Tarran Mackenzie is looking to capitalise on his stellar Rookie Superbike season; “We had a mega first year on the YZF-R1 and I’m just so pleased to be able to continue that progression with the same bike, crew and team for next season, it’s the perfect situation to be honest. Our target was to get a podium before the year was out and we got four with a couple more near misses, so I’m well happy with that to be honest.
We hit our stride mid-season and towards the end of the year I felt like my trackcraft and confidence was really high so it will be great starting the year in that way. Silverstone was a key round, we had two podiums, it should have been three and we were battling with the Championship contenders all race. The aim for next season is definitely to make the Showdown and get those first race wins. We have a test at Almeria after Motorcycle Live and I just can’t wait to get cracking, I’m not great at sitting around!”
A native of Woologong, Australia Jason O’Halloran definitely has a point to prove in 2019, saying; “It’s a new chapter and its really exciting to be joining a new team and manufacturer after a long time in the same place. I have big aims and know I’ve got loads more to prove, people haven’t seen the best of me yet! The bike is a proven race winner and the team has great pedigree, so I believe we have the ingredients to fight for wins.
I’ve followed the R1 plenty and it seems like you need to be smooth and hold good corner speed, things I really think I can work with. Taz has some great experience on the bike now, so it will be good to be able to hook into information too.”
Team Manager Grant Bunting summed up; “We had a strong year in BSB and learnt a lot about ourselves and the YZF-R1, so we can hit the ground running this season, with two cracking signings! Tarran exceeded all our expectations this year and we were really keen to keep him. He has good experience now and we want to help him make the next step up to be able to regularly win races, which we passionately believe he can do.
Jason is a really interesting signing for us and we will give him the tools to get the job done… and remind people why he is a BSB winner, after a tough injury hit year.”

New Post has been published on http://superbike-news.co.uk/wordpress/jake-dixon-smashes-assen-records-to-claim-pole-from-mackenzie-by-0-004s/
Jake Dixon smashes Assen records to claim pole from Mackenzie by 0.004s!
Jake Dixon claimed pole position by just 0.004s in an intense battle for the top spot in Datatag Qualifying for the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Assen this afternoon, edging out front row debutant Tarran Mackenzie and standings leader Leon Haslam.
A hectic Datatag Qualifying kicked off with Haslam setting the initial pace in Q1, setting the fastest time of the weekend ahead of Josh Brookes after the first flying laps, but Dixon was attacking and soon he had moved to the top with a time of 1m:35.716s.
Haslam held second ahead of Mackenzie and Tommy Bridewell who had pushed up the order after returning to action following his free practice crash this morning. Showdown contender Bradley Ray nudged his way into the top 18 to make the cut for Q2, but Danny Buchan ended the session in the gravel and will start 18th on the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki tomorrow as he was unable to take part in the second stage.
In Q2 the pace was electrifying with the top 16 riders lapping inside the existing lap record, however for Showdown contender Ray it wasn’t enough and he will start 16th on the grid for tomorrow’s opening race.
Peter Hickman was another of the Showdown contenders to miss out on Q3; he was pushed outside the top nine in the final moments as Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran moved into contention, but at the front Dixon was pushing hard.
The RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki set the benchmark in Q2 with the fastest ever Bennetts BSB lap of Assen with a time of 1m:35.579s to head off Haslam and Glenn Irwin on the Be Wiser Ducati.
Gino Rea had been impressing on the OMG Suzuki and a crash at turn 15 put the OMG Suzuki rider out of contention for Q3 as he starts from eleventh on the grid ahead of James Ellison and Michael Laverty for race one.
The top nine then returned to the track for one final time in Q3 and although the pace wasn’t as fast as the previous session it was Glenn Irwin who headed the times after the first flying laps. A lap later and Bridewell had surged ahead to prove he was back in contention despite his earlier huge crash.
Dixon though went to the top, but Mackenzie then displaced him at the top of the times, however Dixon wasn’t done and he had another lap to fight for the pole position which he did to move ahead by just 0.004s.
Haslam will complete the front row as he bids to extend his advantage tomorrow with Glenn Irwin heading row two ahead of Bridewell and Brookes. Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon returned to Q3 and he will start seventh on the grid ahead of Honda Racing’s Dan Linfoot and O’Halloran.
Bennetts British Superbike Championship, Assen, Datatag Qualifying result:
Jake Dixon (RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki) 1m:35.639s
Tarran Mackenzie (McAMS Yamaha) +0.004s
Leon Haslam (JG Speedfit Kawasaki) +0.248s
Glenn Irwin (Be Wiser Ducati) +0.423s
Tommy Bridewell (Moto Rapido Ducati) +0.514s
Josh Brookes (McAMS Yamaha) +0.723s
Christian Iddon (Tyco BMW) +1.173s
Dan Linfoot (Honda Racing) +1.256s
Jason O’Halloran (Honda Racing) +1.580s

Jake Dixon (RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki) Pole position “I haven’t been feeling the best so far this weekend; I started to feel a bit ill midweek and the team said it would pass, but hopefully tomorrow is a step towards feeling better again!
“We have worked hard on race distance during free practice and it was really great to do the fast laps in qualifying on the softer option tyre as it is nice to try and find the limit of what you have to offer.
“Overall I am happy with qualifying and the feeling we have for tomorrow. I have done my homework and so hopefully that will pay off in the races so we can try to close down Leon again.”

Haslam wins epic race one scrap as Irwin and Brookes confirmed in the Showdown
clinched the opening Bennetts British Superbike Championship race win at Silverstone this afternoon in a high-speed duel with six different riders sharing the lead during the 30-lap thriller on the National circuit.
The race result also secured Glenn Irwin and Josh Brookes their places alongside Haslam and Jake Dixon in the Showdown, with the fight for the final two places inside the top six going down to the wire in tomorrow’s two races. Bradley Ray and Peter Hickman hold fifth and sixth currently with Danny Buchan, Christian Iddon and Jason O’Halloran still in with a shot of displacing them with a maximum 50 points still up for grabs.
At the start of the race Ray launched off the pole position to lead the pack from Dixon, Brookes and Glenn Irwin, but the Buildbase Suzuki rider crashed out unhurt at Becketts on the fourth lap which ended his hopes of securing his Showdown place early. The 21-year-old holds a 37 point margin over Buchan in seventh in the standings who could only finish 13th in today’s opening contest for FS-3 Racing Kawasaki.
Dixon had meanwhile resumed the lead from Brookes and Glenn Irwin, but soon the 2015 champion had moved into the lead for McAMS Yamaha and he had the edge with a decisive move at Brooklands. He was soon under fire again though but it was from his McAMS Yamaha team-mate Tarran Mackenzie who proved he had the pace to match his more experienced rivals as he claimed the lead at the mid-stage of the race as the pair traded blows for the advantage.
Glenn Irwin was on the move and he then grabbed the lead on the Be Wiser Ducati as Haslam moved into third behind Mackenzie with Brookes dropped to fourth.
The positions were changing constantly in the leading pack and it was a raging battle between Glenn Irwin and Mackenzie for several laps with the pair changing positions every lap for the lead as Haslam closed in.
The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider waited until the closing stages to make his move and he hit the front of the leading pack, but Glenn Irwin came back to regain the position, but on the final lap it was Haslam who held it to the chequered flag just 0.171s ahead of the Be Wiser Ducati despite his huge crash in free practice yesterday.
Mackenzie held on to third to celebrate his first podium in the premier class in only his rookie season ahead of his team-mate Brookes and Dixon who completed the top five for RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki.
Jason O’Halloran kept his Showdown hopes alive with a sixth place after holding off Luke Mossey on the second of the JG Speedfit Kawasakis and Peter Hickman, who held on to sixth place in the standings for Smiths Racing BMW, with a 12 point advantage over Buchan.
Gino Rea scored his best result of the season for the OMG Suzuki team in ninth ahead of Moto Rapido Ducati’s Tommy Bridewell.
Christian Iddon overcame a fractured collarbone in Datatag Qualifying to finish in 15th place in race one, with 22 points separating the Tyco BMW rider from sixth placed Hickman ahead of tomorrow’s decisive two races.

Leon Haslam (JG Speedfit Kawasaki) Race one: 1st “There weren’t many places to make the move as I was really struggling getting out on to the straights so that penalised me quite a bit as I didn’t get the drive. There were two or three places I felt really confident with the bike, but it wasn’t a matter of planning the move it was a case of taking it when I could.
“I had a big moment going into Brooklands trying to pass Glenn the lap before, so I was a bit unsure but made it stick. It was such a fun race. Honestly I didn’t know where the moves were going to come from – it felt like backstreet racing, pulling moves wherever you could!”
Glenn Irwin (Be Wiser Ducati) Race one: 2nd “It’s been a bit of a scrappy weekend, but I felt pretty comfortable in the race and although second’s a good result, I obviously want to win. We’d all used most of our tyres by the end of the race and although I didn’t miss a gear going onto the straight on the last lap, it wasn’t the cleanest of shifts and that gave Leon his chance.
“I didn’t brake maybe as late as I could have done but I didn’t want to lose the podium either, so we’ll take second place today. I was only a fraction off the win again so hopefully we’ll get one soon and the main thing today was qualifying for the Showdown.”
Tarran Mackenzie (McAMS Yamaha) Race one: 3rd First podium finish in Bennetts BSB “I didn’t expect to lead at all! I didn’t get the best of starts, dropped back to sixth or seventh and had to come through them all.
“Once I got to third and was behind Jake and Brookes I felt really comfortable, so I made some moves and thought if I could lead one lap I’d be happy! The laps kept coming around and nobody was passing me so I just kept my head down.
“I got stuck in and tried to stay in the podium battle, when Josh passed me on the second to last lap I thought it was the last lap so when I came across the line I thought ‘thank goodness for that’ and made sure I got that podium!”
