i saw this scene being uploaded in english the other day and i can't not rewatch the japanese version because, you know, seiyuu brainrot and whatnot. translations (completely my own) under the cut.
Prompto: What're you doing?
Noctis: Nothing, really. Just spacing out.
Prompto: Huh. I see.
[ Leave him alone / Talk about something random / Wait for him to speak ]
Noctis: Hmph—
Prompto: We went through so much today, huh?
Noctis: Everything's so new to us, too.
Prompto: You can say that again. Things have been super hard, but I didn't expect every day to be so much fun. Y'see, everything I see is new to me.
Prompto: I never expected things to turn out this way or to go out on a trip together.
Noctis: Yeah.
Prompto: How long have we known each other again? It's since high school... So five years?
Noctis: But I've known you for longer. Was it since elementary school?
Prompto: Eh? How'd you remember that?
Noctis: 'Course I'd remember. You stared at me so much.
Prompto: Ugh. [nervous laughter] You see, that's because I have my reasons...
Noctis: But you were still like, "Nice to meet ya!" at the high school entrance ceremony.
Prompto: I had to really brace myself to talk to you that time.
Prompto: [sighs] Kinda takes me back.
Noctis: You could've just talked to me, you know.
Prompto: I know it's easy for you to say— You wouldn't understand, Noct.
Prompto: Back then, I—
Prompto: Sorry, man. It really is nothing.
[ Ask him out of concern / You're concerned but you don't force it out of him / You won't get mad so ask him to be honest ]
Noctis: What is up with that? Just say it.
Prompto: [sighs] All right.
Prompto: You see...
Prompto: I used to be unable to reach out to other people.
Prompto: And I... didn't have anyone that I could call a true friend.
Prompto: I was always by myself.
Prompto: So sometimes I end up thinking maybe I'm not worth anything.
Finally got around to watch the first part of Season 2 and man... I miss Suzuki so much as Anos’ VA... Like Umehara isn’t bad per se but it’s just not the same ._.
SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP LOOKING LIKE ALL THE GORY REACTION MEMES RIGHT NOW
Okay let's backtrack: I recently started watching Tokyo Revengers (I know I'm late to the party) and I immediately took a liking to Draken. I realized it was because he was the "tall best friend with a heart of gold" type of character which made me think of Makoto from Free!... but I literally thought "he's got a much deeper voice than Makoto tho, not at all like him lol"
A few episodes later I decided to look up his VA because I liked his voice
AND IT'S TATSUHISA SUZUKI?????? MAKOTO'S VA??????? SINGER OF OLDCODEX????????????? LOVE OF MY FUCKING LIFE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I AM HYPERVENTILATING
I LITERALLY HAD A PHYSICAL REACTION SOMEWHERE BETWEEN LAUGHING AND SOBBING
THE SHEER RANGE OF THIS MAN 🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐 I didn't even recognize him shame on meeeeeeeee dishonor on my cowwwwwww
Suzuki Tatsuhisa Talks Behind-the-Scenes of FFXV: Part 5
This was my favorite part of the entire episode: Tatsu recounting the process of recording Chapter 10 (or: "The One Where Gladio Flips Out on Noct"). Unfortunately, I don't have any screenshots of my Chapter 10 playthroughs, so have a screenshot of the King and his Shield taking down a Treant instead.
As always, check here for the previous part and click here to read from the beginning. Listen along to the original video here, from 15:49–18:21.
Suzuki Tatsuhisa: This may be sad, but there's a character played by Miyake Kenta called Gladio. He's this big guy with a huge build. There's a part where he had to become a target of hate. He ended up completely venting his feelings to Noct, and there was a scene where he's hated so much.
ST: That scene was the result of us voice actors recording, then editing, then re-recording the scene. The script for that scene was actually supposed to be much longer. It was so long. Everyone was wondering what to do with it. One of the characters had to be the bad guy because the script was ending up too "pretty." One of them had to do it, or it'd be a terrible script.
ST: That was what it ended up being. "Someone had to be the bad guy. Someone had to be hated. But that's gotta be me, right?" That's what Kenta-san said.
ST: "If I have to be hated, then it has to be done thoroughly. Why is the script so tepid, then? Let's talk about it." "Let's change all of the lines and work on it." "So, what do we do now?" "What about how Noct feels?" That was why when we were acting out the lines, it really felt like a stage production.
ST: So it was like, "Noct, you're making a poor showing of yourself." So, in the end, it was like he understood me [as Noct]. And he [as Gladio] said, "What's bothering you? Say it now!"
ST: "I mean, you'd just lost your lover but you still have to travel with your friends. You have to get into that world, you know?"
ST: But I was like, "I can't say these lines! It'll affect yours too." "What do we do about these lines?" "Well then, Ignis has to say something in that case." "What about Prompto's lines, then?" Everyone was arguing at that point.
[Host] Shimazu Shintarou: That really happened.
ST: It did.
SS: It's interesting that the scene was acted according to the voice actors' judgment. But there have to be things you have to read out.
ST: Yeah.
SS: You have to follow them somehow or the work won't be up to standard. But that was one of the things that happened during production that represents that.
ST: We had times like that. We heard feedback that Gladio was the worst during that scene, but we actually did that on purpose.
SS: It became the best words of praise.
ST: It was only because Kenta-san said Gladio had to be the target of hate that it became that way. That was how everyone could empathize more with Noct.
ST: That was one good way we could move from there to the next scene, like the one where they were on the train.
