Hello friends! Quick read-through update for you: I've made it up to "How Did It End?" so far and hope to be all the way done by late this evening (I'm over here on USA Pacific time). I'm taking the opportunity to try to track a bunch of different motifs/categories at once, some that I already have posts for that I'll be able to update after your requests and some that are for new posts I'd like to make eventually. Putting a screenshot of part of the work-in-progress under the cut below if you're interested.

These are the read-through requests I've got: fantasy/literature references, colors, gemstones, specific places, alcoholic beverages, drugs, celestial/space references, religious references. I haven't responded to these asks yet - not ignoring you! Just waiting to reply with the link to the updated post once they're done.

So apparently apple music uploaded a different version of I Hate It Here with one line difference. They changed it pretty quickly, but there are copies of the song with the alt lyrics still floating around.

The OG lyrics were: "Nostalgia is a mind trick/No Midnight in Paris"and were then changed to "Nostalgia is a mind trick/If I'd been there, I'd hate it"

Just wanted to make sure you had them for your records! Also, there are tons of lyric changes in the clean version of TTPD, so god speed on updating everything!

Wow, bizarre! I listen using Apple Music but by the time I heard it, it was the "If I'd been there, I'd hate it" line. Added the "no midnight in Paris" lyric to the alternate versions section. Thank you!

I went through the clean versions right after my full listen-through last night (thanks to jet lag, I was going to be up all night regardless haha) so I think I've got all the changes... but yeah there were a bunch. I was surprised she chose to just mute "Fuck me up, Florida" - figured she could have used "mess me up"/"screw me up" something like that.

I was scrolling through my dash and I was hit with a sudden astonishment at your work! Astonishment and curiosity...if it's something you can say (no worries if not), how do you cycle through all of Taylor's songs to find a specific word? If I were in your place I would spend all day combing through each song. I'm so genuinely amazed that you're simply doing this out of the goodness of your heart!!

Thank you so much! Although I now have almost 1100 keyword posts, it's been a slow build over the last 6 years. For the posts that just look for an exact keyword, I just use the "find" keyboard command and skip through my lyric document that way. For the posts that are more like categories, I do read through my full document of all her lyrics! I try to combine a couple together if I can.

@meandmypagancrew who has been working with me on this for about the last year has started more recently to take on a lot of these category-type posts while I've been updating old posts with new lyrics, and I'm super grateful for their help! They pointed out recently that the lyric document is now over 200 pages long once TTPD/TA lyrics were added, so it's kind of like reading a novel every time we make one of these posts. Definitely a different experience than when I started in 2018, when only six albums existed!

how do you find all the references in the songs? do you sit through each one or did you write a program for it

Hi there! I "transcribe" the lyrics (copy them into a text editor from a lyrics website and cross check them against Apple Music and/or lyric booklets if I have access), then I just either use my computer's search function (like command-F on a Mac) to look for keywords or I read through Taylor's entire discography lyrics if I get a request for something that's more like a category than a specific word. For better or worse, it's entirely manual, no programs.

And... I'm finally (finally!!) done with my TTPD/Anthology read-through so now I can do all the updates that have been requested!

Oh yeah and my religious references post is one of the two existing posts that still need Midnights and Red TV, SN TV, and 1989 TV lyrics, too... but I'm going to try to get through it this weekend! Finding all the new connections with previous lyrics is the fun part though so I'm excited to get started.

A little love letter

Hello friends! I wanted to send you all a hug (if you’d like one) and a lot of love today. I started this blog on July 20, 2018 -- officially five years ago!! Where does the time go... and today also marks my 1000th keyword post. I am not someone who sticks with hobbies very long, so I’m pretty astounded I’ve actually kept this up, forgetting to post I think fewer than 10 days out of the last 5 years. While I’ve always loved Taylor’s lyrics and lyric parallels, I doubt I’d still be here doing this if it wasn’t for how much fun you make it, and I feel really lucky to be a part of this community! Over half of these posts have come from your requests. Also another shout-out to Cody @nightingale6374 for joining in on this crazy cataloguing adventure. Here’s to... 1000 more posts?? I think Taylor’s got plenty of lyrics up her sleeves still to make it happen!

are you going to be ttpd lyrics to your lists when the album comes out?

Absolutely! I tend to get a lot of requests for updates right after the album comes out so I prioritize those first, and then I just start working through them progressively on my own. Since I'll have over 1060 posts by the time TTPD is released, it'll likely take me a couple months to get through the majority of them. But if you have ones you are particularly interested in seeing updated, please send them in and I'll do them first!

for the Taylor swift x literary post, since dear reader is included, shouldn’t story of us and particularly “next chapter” be included? I assume you didn’t include the word fairytale in any way bc it gets a separate post but I’m genuinely curious where you chose to draw this particular line since it can be so broad

Thanks for your question! "Dear reader" is included because the phrase itself is somewhat commonly used in I believe Victorian literature, with a number of listeners also drawing a comparison to the "Reader, I married him" line from Jane Eyre. I of course can't claim perfection in this, but the goal of the literary references post is to collect phrases that quote/evoke/refer to a specific literary work, whereas my Reading Materials post is more of a catch-all for reading related words generally. To make it even more complicated, I got a request some years later for Myths/Legends/Fairytales - as I note at the top of that post, categorizing references into that one vs Literary References vs Religious References as well was difficult/subjective and I still feel like I could do a better job of drawing those lines. But hopefully between those four, someone who is interested in reading/stories in Taylor's lyrics can find what they are looking for.

I had this same thought as I was trying to decide what tags to use on the post! Clearly she should address this issue by coming back to tumblr and then writing lyrics about posting here instead.
