yesterday i went for a late night run of something in xiv and ended up helping 3-man unsynch E12S.

Trying to articulate what I dislike about Pokemon: Legends Arceus (pla); and just keep coming back to "they forgot to put the fun in it". They changed up the gameplay formula so much that the only thing remaining from traditional Pokemon games is the Pokemon themselves, and while change isn't inherently bad, I don't find these changes enjoyable.

Progression is locked behind tasks; and while the tasks may be relatively simple [catch a pokemon, or observe it's behavior], you have to do a lot of them to progress, you need to do 50+ tasks to progress from the 1st area to the 2nd

Some of the tasks are based on random chance. "catch a large buizel", "catch a light-weight wurmple"; except you generally cannot tell the difference between specimens outside of the stat sheet, which you can only see after capture. I haven't found a consistent way to intentionally catch Pokemon of different sizes. Better catch em all and hope I get lucky! I now have 200 buizel and 6 are considered "large", to 100% this research task I need at least 10. Very cool. Sure you don't need to fully complete every research task for every pokemon, but the game certainly incentivizes you to. I'd probably feel differently about the game if, after you complete a dex entry, you cannot continue researching that pokemon; the research page just says "complete" and there aren't any remaining tasks that can be seen. This would require quite a few other changes, and I don't know all the ramifications of it, but that would certainly disincentivize completing every research task in the game

It just all feels very repetitive despite the appearance of a large and "open world" (you can't travel to different routes without traveling home/ending the day first lol) in a way that stops being entertaining very quickly.

Also I dislike that, in games prior to sw/sh, you could play almost the entirety of the game as slowly or as quickly as you liked and the experience you have with the game would not fundamentally change. Random battles are based entirely on your movement, trainer battles have some exceptions, but largely follow the same rule. Battles also do not progress while you don't input anything. A lot of "timers" in game are based on step count, rather than an actual time limit (although that may have been phased out for later entries in the series tbh). Someone playing the game at 1 button press per minute will still be playing the same game as someone who does 1 per second.

With the introduction of "wild areas" in sw/sh, and their expansion in pla/scarvio this is simply no longer the case. You have to intentionally approach or run from encounters, some Pokemon you can only catch if you don't get seen by it, Pokemon can attack you outside of a formal battle and you have to react quickly to dodge. Reaction time and inputs per minute change your experience with the game.

I had trouble with this one, too. Tbh getting 12 million will take skill AND luck. 

There are a few major factors for getting a high score:

Destroying enemies in rapid succession to keep a chain going so that your score has a high multiplier

Using traps to take out enemies

Activating heat traps by shooting the metal spheres and making them explode

Activating jolt traps by dropping/pushing/leading enemies into the large circular part of the floor in the bottom level of the map (the trap only works when it is glowing bright purple; I think you might have to shoot an enemy on the trap to get the damage to register???)

Activating the crane trap that drops stuff onto your enemies

Only using 1 mech for the entire fight

Completing the game in under 2 minutes and 30 seconds

Here are tips on how to do each of these things:

Chaining enemies

You have 10 SECONDS after destroying an enemy to take out another and keep your chain going. I think it’s possible to get 12 million points even if you drop your chain once, but if you drop it more often than that, it’s going to be very hard to get a high score.

Basically never take your finger off the trigger. Chances are you’ll hit enemies without meaning to while you’ve moving around.

Use the dash and glide abilities to close distances between yourself and enemies and keep your combo going.

When you’re going around activating traps to take out large groups, pick off single enemies along the way to restart the timer and help your chain last longer.

Trapping enemies

The heat traps and jolt traps are your best bet. I never bothered with the crane trap; it felt like I was wasting way too much time just trying to hit it when I could have been focusing on enemies.

When you’re on the ground level, shoot out the glass platform in the center of the map above you to drop enemies into the jolt trap. If you time it right, you should take out a bunch of enemies at once.

Using 1 mech

There are actually two mechs in relatively close distance when you start the game. One is the blue one right in front of Sora when you begin. The other is to the left, on a platform slightly below where you start. It’s purple. You can choose which mech you want based on your needs.

The blue one moves faster, but shoots slower

The purple one moves slower, but shoots faster

I used the blue one because I wanted to be able to move around the map quickly and keep my chain going.

Do what you can to avoid damage

Use the dash ability to slide out of the way of enemy fire

Do not face primes head-on for long; keep moving, because their attacks HURT

Don’t fall into your own traps!

Completing the game fast

There are three phases in the game:

Round 1 where you’re taking out normal mechs

Round 2 where you’re taking out normal mechs and prime mechs

Round 3 where you’re taking out the mech boss

I’m not 100% sure what triggers each round to end and start the new one. I think it has to do with how many enemies you take out. Use traps to get rid of as many as you can as quickly as possible!

The mech boss can completely screw your time if you don’t take it out quickly. Tbh you’re going to have to hope that it lands in traps to take out huge chunks of its HP at a time.

As I mentioned, getting 12 million points takes skill, but it also honestly takes luck. Enemies are going to roam around and chances are they’re not going to end up where you want them. There are patterns to enemy spawns, but what they do after they appear is kind of random.

CHALLENGES + MISSIONS

missions are self explanatory, you can view them in the missions tab seen on the home page:

there are daily missions and weekly missions, you can complete them everyday to get more cards/rp/etc, and if you complete the weekly missions you can get 50 diamonds!

for challenges there are 2 types:

monthly challenges

song challenges 

song challenges: you get them every few song clears, it’ll pop up like this

you’ll be asked to beat your current high score of the song (in whatever mode the your highest score is in) by 10,000 points and if you do you’ll get a C card, a headphone, and a very good RP bonus reward (2,000 or more!), you get 3 chances so don’t be sad if you didn’t clear it the first time

this is a really good way to get RP, the trick is to keep your scores AS LOW AS POSSIBLE (minus your scoring songs since you still want to climb leagues lol) so you can easily clear them without needing to spend too much RP upgrading your cards

monthly challenges: this requires you to clear songs and beat the score shown in the game within a month, the more scores you beat that month, the more prizes you will get! (prizes are sent out once the month is over you don’t get them right away) 

this will reset every month and next month you’ll have to clear the score again to get prizes! you can view the full list in game but here’s a screenshot of most of them

also this is where you can see what the monthly score is to beat, it’s in the corner of every song above the World Record/My Record

you can also keep track of how many you’ve cleared personally on the home page

NOW THE CHALLENGE PROBLEM

so if you couldn’t already tell, there’s a big problem with the challenge formats....they clash with each other ;o; one requires you to get really high scores while the other one is way better if you keep your score as low as possible

so you have to decide which prizes you want more, but if you want my two cents i would keep my scores lower atm and go for the song challenges since RP is very much needed at the beginning stages (at all stages tbh lol) and will keep doing that until i get good enough decks for the monthly scores

especially since there are very few songs in the game currently, it’s more common that the game will end up selecting one of your higher score songs as the challenge to beat which will be hard for you since then you have to upgrade your cards even higher which would negate the RP bonus entirely...

REHEARSAL MODE

it's completely separate from the weekly league, it’s just there for you to try out songs that you have trouble clearing

it does cost one headphone to play and it will not save your score, again my two cents: this mode is NOT WORTH IT since you have to spend a headphone but it literally gives nothing back, unless you really cannot clear a song with your card deck and would just like to play and see what the rest of the song is like

but anyways if you do want to try it, this is what it looks like after you pick a song you want to try out

it gives you some options that you can pick from, if you’re trying to clear a song then pick the R50 deck, it’ll make it almost impossible to fail the song if you’re really trying so you can hopefully go all the way through!

during game play it’ll tell you some stats to the side as well

you can view the notes breakdown in the normal mode as well once the song ends though so don’t worry this isn’t exclusive to just rehearsal mode

MY UN-FILTERED TIPS

so my tips in the picture is pretty standard ones but some more cheeky tips or reality checks would be

sometimes you can get away with key smashing your way through some parts of the beatmap asjhsdf so if there’s ever a lot of blue notes and you panic just start smashing the screen and if you’re lucky you won’t miss c;

you can combo chain yellow drag notes!! this is harder to explain but basically you don’t have to lift your finger if you go from yellow note to yellow note (you still have to tap for blue notes though so this doesn’t work if there are blue notes), the only video example i can find is from superstar bts if you need a visual to see what happens

the game will not be this generous later on, right now it’s in the newly released phase so they will be giving out really good rewards for events and everything is new and fun but the reality of this game is that there’s a lot of waiting for new songs and repeated events that sometimes aren’t even worth the rewards...but this just means to take advantage of the good stuff right now because it will end!!

don’t log in right at reset, basically most people believe that the good players log in right away or the snipers because they were on last minute right before the league resets so you have a higher chance of running into them if you go on right away...of course this is just to minimize the chances, you can run into snipers and good players no matter what time you go on ^^;;

you can save your card packs in your inventory as long as it hasn’t expired! a lot of old players will do this for comeback events since when the game updates with a new theme, all the card packs (even the ones in your inventory that you got from a previous event) update to include it so it just gives another chance for you to get the new cards if you’re lucky! but please keep an eye on the timer, don’t let them expire or it will be a waste

comeback events are generally very hard to clear and requires a lot of time and saved resources so don’t be sad if you can’t clear these in particular but in return you have a chance to win a signed CD (or other things), so if you know your fav group is coming back then start saving early if you want to participate! (ofc physical goods like signed cds rely on the company and how good their relation is with dalcom i know jyp was really slow on sending out their promised prizes to dalcom which soured the relationship and there was no signed album prizes for months in superstar jyp....)

monbebes you will get attacked by limited edition themes so this is your warning!!! i wish i was joking but basically dalcom works very closely with the companies and each company has their (1-3ish) money makers, dalcom will release a looooot of limited edition themes for said money makers and in starship it’s pretty obvious that it will be monsta x mainly so if you want limited edition themes save your diamonds!! but don’t be too sad if you can’t collect them all it’s the nature of rng and starship/dalcom trying to milk you for money bc they know monsta x has dedicated fans

not really a tip but a reminder that dalcom WORKS WITH THE COMPANY!! they don’t have the right to just add whatever songs they want or whatever events they want, everything has to be approved by starship first because starship owns rights to the artists, the songs, the pictures....so try not to get too mad at dalcom if they do some mega money milking scheme or don’t add songs you like, it’s mainly starship’s decision and dalcom just has to go with it

also reminder limited edition themes aren’t any better than normal ones lmao it just comes with a pretty border and are ~limited~ so go for it if you like the look if not you’re not really put behind or anything

and of course don’t forget this is a game, don’t worry too much about how others are progressing and don’t be disheartened if you can’t finish events because there’s always something going on, you can just play it at your pace and have fun!

im a bit nervous, am still very new to high end content so i hope this goes well, tho i prepped ofc ^^

Edit 1: omg first pull did not go as poorly as i thought it would, we made it to phase 2 LOL but it seems it was a fluke, we are wiping more consistently to random things. it's not one mech it's just a lot! tbh my head is still wrapping around the hair raid and barbery combos ahhhh

Edit 2: we are getting better at phase 1 with minimal mistakes and now we're working on phase 2! it's actually not going too bad :D

Edit 3: whew okay I'm glad Phase 1 is mostly clean now, we're getting to P2 consistently! now we're wiping to Mario Kart lol

Edit 4: okay okay im getting better at the Hair Raid combos lol it's getting instinctual now haha im better at anticipating the patterns

Edit 5: omg had a really good moment where I managed to keep up from wiping up till P4 :D really cool!

Edit 6: im gonna cry my cohealer who is an Ult Legend said im doing a good job T_____T also the rest of my party said so too which im really so happy to hear, i feel a lot calmer knowing im doing well through this, especially being a baby to EX/Savages haha

Edit 8: okay so we had to call it for the night :( but we did really well! we actually saw enrage ONCE but at playstation there were pretty much just too many mistakes going around. people kept forgetting to spread out. kind of sucks because deaths cascade into wipes very quickly

anyways, this was a fun first experience with EX4 and im very excited to try again later in the week when i have time :D supposedly our first timer party was a very good one haha

Am so happy right now BECAUSE I’m unemployed lol

I had been anxious for the past two months because I had a job but because of the pandemic obviously all us part timers had not been there except for like 1 month or two last fall. I was back from Aug-Oct of 2020 then was offered to come back again for a spell during January but couldn’t due to personal reasons, but in the spring my boss texted me asking if I could come back Aug 2021 and i said yes, BUT THEN I NEVER HEARD ANYTHING and had been sitting here anxious bc tbh I didn’t really want to go back bc 1) heavy lifting and i hurt my back and 2) i would rather work in a clothing store bc im a fashion major so i want to do something i would enjoy, so i had been sitting anxious bc I didn’t want to QUIT but my boss also has some anger issues which made it for an uncomfortable environment 

ANYWAY I had been waiting for a text bc he said the end of august and so ive been waiting waiting and waiting and praying he forgot about me and i decided today to check my phone calls and saw AUGUST 3RD I HAD MISSED A CALL but bc its been so long from when i last worked, over a year, i would have to go through a complete rehiring process and application so BASICALLY IM FREE

im just not going to reply bc i missed the message for 23 days so i got my wish i phased out of existence
