CoasterMaynia 2025 Day 15- Great American Scream Machine (Summer Casual)
@coastermaynia
DAY 15! GIVE IT UP FOR DAY 15!
Another sketch-only entry bcs I literally drew it two hours ago. I had a couple outfit ideas for our local Arrow Mega-Looper (first swimwear bcs I could draw him using his megaphone like a lifeguard, then a formal suit) before deciding on a simple tank + shorts combo. I like to think itās one of his workout outfits!
Full color edition coming eventually (ā¢)

You know.
Itās kinda funny.
The whole reason why I made it that Coasterdroids (my roller coaster personifications) can stick around as ghosts/spirits after their coasters are demolished if a peice of track is preserved is because I couldnāt bring myself to āretireā my defunct personifications from my art + stories (outside of flashbacks, of course).
As such, I created a loophole so that they could continue to interact with their park and fellow Coasterdroids from beyond the grave (though admittedly I mainly focused on Rolling Thunder bcs of Toro and his storyline(s)).
GASM was only 21 when it permanently closed, and people were given a mere two weeks to get their last rides. At the very least, GASM had signs placed at the front of the park letting visitors know of its last day and a farewell party (with a cake)!
While RT was older (34), its closure was but a mere footnote in (ironically) Zuminjaroās press announcement. This time, people were only given a week to get their last rides inā and going off of youtube videos and forum comments, only one side was running at the time of its closure. From what Iāve read, RT wasnāt maintained well in its later years and lived in the shadow of El Toro.
Though the park would work quickly to replace GASM with (also ironically) Green Lantern, the majority of RTās footprint was never utilizedā Zumiās walkway just skimmed the left side of the footprint and El Diablo only used some of the ācattle penā section left over from RTās queue (and was gone in five years).
In my eyes, GASM and RT had been dealt a bad hand, gone too soon.
Little did I know that Kingda Ka, Green Lantern, and all the flat rides that closed this past season were given an even worse hand; no announcement at all, with SF corporate trying their damndest to make their closures/demoliton go quietly.
I donāt even think Iāll get the opportunity to keep my Ka and GL personifications around as spirits, as that would require having a portion of their tracks preservedā and with how both of their demolitions have been going, the only place all that track is going is to a scrapyard.
Thereās no loophole to save them this time.

So after I remastered the first āWelcome to Six Flags Great Adventureā drawing, it only made sense to remaster the second one. This drawing features the Coasterdroids associated with coasters that are defunct, relocated, or were rethemed. Wanted to get this out a bit sooner but life got in the way. Regardless, Iām happy with how this came out!
As suggested by the drawingās header, this doesnāt encompass every single defunct/relocated/rethemed coaster to exist at Great Adventure. The park (currently) has more defunct/relocated coasters than operating coasters, and many of them were only around for a few seasons. When I initially set out to design personifications for Great Adventureās lineup, I decided that Iād only personify a defunct/relocated coaster if it operated for at least five seasons. The only exception to this rule was Ultra Twister, because when else would I get the chance to personify this model (it was the only one of its kind in the states)?
Will I ever personify the rest of Great Adventureās defunct/relocated coasters? Probably not, I already have enough personifications lol. But if any of you guys do, Iād love to see āem! Despite the parkās popularity, I feel that SFGAd is somewhat underrepresented witin the personifier community.

Weāre back to the Great Adventure AU designs! Great American Scream Machine opened in 1989 with a patriotic theme, but what if it had opened a year earlier; Let me introduce you to āShockwaveā!
For those unaware, Great Adventure was originally going to open an Arrow Dynamics āMega Looperā coaster in 1988. However, it was ultimately given to Great America, who opened it as Shockwave. Fortunately, Great Adventure would get their Mega Looper the next season (and in hindsight, it was probably for the better considering the multitude of issues Shockwave had).
For this design, it was fun to change his patriotic elements into āelectrifiyingā ones, and some elements were inspired by a superhero costume that Bugs Bunny appeared in for media relating to Great Adventureās Shockwave (an Intamin Stand-Up, which of course would have a different name in this AU). Being the first Mega Looper means that āShockwaveāās life is filled with chronic painā and he comes to resent his neighbors because they can live a normal life. the coaster and āShockwaveā himself to meet an early end, closing in 2002 & being replaced by Superman: Ultimate Flight.
But If you wanna hear more about my Great Adventure AUs, I have a whole document up on my Toyhouse page that talks about this design (and many others)!
